Get gingerbread keyboard on galaxy s II - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just got my galaxy s 2 today n beim using it fr a few hours. Came from the nexus one n im missing pure android feel to apps.
I also cant seem to figure out how to get the dictionary working on the samsung keyboard or swype n i seem to miss the old keyboard layout too.
Is it just a simple case of finding the apk n installing it?

Gingerbread keyboard:
Search for "Keyboard from Android 2.3" in the Market.

is it reliable though? do you know from where i can get the actual one?the official one?

Sorry can't test it, my S2 is still on its way :-(
But I read about it and afaik it's ok.
I don't know if there is an "official" gingerbread keyboard for the S2, I think the one in the market is the best you can get.
Don't sue me if it's not true - This is just based on my little research

I have the CM7 keyboard as I much prefer it thanks to the long press delay option that the normal 2.3 KB does not have.
Just pull the apk from the CM7 ROM zip and install using the SGS file manager, simples

found it..but ended up using the Keyboard for Android 2.3 from the market because the keys in that are bigger!

Do you find that you don't get the dictionary come up in the email program though? It works in Handcent SMS, but not in email for me... (when using the market GB Keyboard I mean)

Hi
I don't think it is an official version rather it should be a mod version. I am using it for the last one week from the time i had S II and it works fine for me.

I installed the CM7 KB but I can't get the haptic feedback to work.
How did you manage this?

when i installed the CM7 keyboard, when i switch to landscape it cuts off the area where you would normally see the typed words, this is not good.
any way to shrink down the size, or get rid of the line with the extra characters?

I hate swype as well as the touch keyboard. Its all all about personal preference and I prefer the stock 2.2 keyboard

hold down when entering text until input method appears and switch in there
I'm going to second this request; I would rather have the stock android keyboard than the HTC touch input. Personal preference.

[Q] Stock SE SMS/Dialer/Contact for CM7 ?

Hi !
Everything is in the title
I'm looking for SE stock apps to use them as replacement for SMS/dialer/contact, because I don't like the ones built in CM6/7. So, is there anyone who have managed to use them with CM7 ?
Thanks you in advance
BTW : The stock 4 corners launcher would be nice too
(Or maybe we should wait for the next x10 mini/pro and get the new rom to butcher it and port it to our phone :/)
I am looking for it too please
T9
Can't help you on the stock progs, but, take a look at Go SMS Pro and TouchPal Dialer. I found them way better than both CM and stock dialers/sms

Indeed, Touchpad dialer is fine, even if the fonts are very small :-/
Go Sms seems good too, not totally at my taste, because again of the fonts' size, but it would do the job

Have you figured what to do with with the in-call screen? When I use in-call dialpad (to browse throught voice menus) the bottom rows (7890) are hidden ...
I use external keyboard for that..
Any ideas?
Thanks
Not a clue :-S, sorry

About that, we know now why SE did choose the four corners ui xD ... To gain some place for things like a dialer :-S

Installing a GB phone.apk on an ICS ?

I liked the phone dialer screen from my GB Rom because it had 4 tabs across the top rather than the 3 which is has now. It no longer has "Contacts" as a tab at the top.
Therefore, could I install a phone.apk from the GB rom and install it on an ICS stock rom ? I suppose, is it the phone.apk file that controls this or is it some other one ?

I don't think a GB phone.apk will work on ICS.
Good news though: in the new firmware that came out today (LPW), Samsung has added that 4th tab back again. It will just be a matter of time before there are custom ROMs based on it.
Wow, what a timely question !!
Seems bizarre that they ever removed it. It's not as if it took up any more space.
Thanks for the info.

Yes its back but its annoying.... When you go into contacts, its a separate menu now so you have to use back key to get beck to dialer.

Keyboard recommendations?

I've got a htc sensation which I rooted a while back, and have been using virtuous inquisition since then. Since that rom was sense based, I've been using the sense keyboard and liked how i could have it in a phone keypad layout. This one was modded too to have arrows for moving the cursor around which was great since tapping the screen in exactly the right place is a real pain in the arse.
Thing is I've now recently changed to cm10 which isn't sense based, so the sense keyboard has gone. The standard keyboard only has the full keyboard layout, so the buttons are too small for me.
Apparently you can't make the sense keyboard work with it, so I've tried go launcher's keyboard, multilang and a few other free ones, but none of them are perfect. Can anyone recommend a decent keyboard to me which will work as I want?
Perfect keyboard. First app I download when I flash a new rom, highly customizable.
SwiftKey. I believe it's still on sale, but there is a free trial.
Best keyboard ever.

+1 bought it, very nice, using it without correctionstuff, i´m an oldschoolwriter a lot of customizations as mentioned
Just tried perfect keyboard and yeah it seems nice. I've got my desired layout and cursors, and the dictionary works well enough to be used without fuss. Can I make it so that it doesn't suggest words longer than what I've typed? For example if I type aunt it suggests words more than four letters long, like cumulative. Any way of making it stick to the correct number of letters?

Try the Jellybean keyboard! Awesome predictions plus large buttons and smart typing/press (no typo)

SwiftKey. I've been using it for a while, and even when I'm not typing English -with English being the only dictionary installed) it still offers me corrections (although they're not automatically selected, which is good).
It literally learns how you type.
Right, I've tried SwiftKey, a.i.type and jellybean keyboards and none of them appear to let me choose the layout that I want.
That perfect keyboard seems alright, but how can I stop it suggesting words longer than what I typed?

Yes. I have never used predictive text/spelling as I hate it so know naff all about it.
To be honest I think its a crap suggestion because the whole idea of predictive is to help you place long words by only typing a few letters so it will never work the way you want.
For me smart-keyboard is perfect. You can use ready made skins or create your own quite easyly.

Stock JB Keyboard or Swiftkey 3. ♥
Swift key works great once it learns how u type. Really saves me time.

[Q] [REQ] AOSP/AOKP 4.2.2 Keyboard for 4.12 ROM (Please bear with me here...)

I know that this looks like it has been asked a dozen times, but I assure you that I have looked high and low and have installed literally 10 or so keyboards trying to compare features.
Here's what I am looking for (if it's possible):
Looking for a port of the keyboard that comes with AOKP 4.2.2 Milestone 1 or later. I know that there are tons of Jellybean keyboards out there and they even have gesture typing, but the one that comes with AOKP has the long press alternate keys exactly where I want them as well as the right selection.
I have tried the Google Keyboard from the Play Store and it doesn't have the long press alternates (aside for a select few that aren't labled).
Does anyone know how I can get this keyboard to work on my Note II? I have even gone so far as to extract it from an AOKP ROM and it loads fine, however the gesture typing does not work (just shows the gesture trail but doesn't type anything)
Is this at all possible? Can anyone help?
Thanks in advance!

If AOKP is like the other AOSP Roms then the keyboard is the Google keyboard, unless they are using the older AOSP keyboard which is the same thing with a different name. AOKP may just use a different one but I doubt that.
Have you tweaked with the settings in the keyboard once installed to make sure the gesture trail is turned on?
You might get more help in the Themes section seeing how they deal with a lot of keyboards and mods for keyboards.

I tried everything. Gesture trail is turned on. The keyboard version is 4.2.2. Not really sure what else to do. Seems like maybe a lib file is missing or something.
