how do i lock my phone? - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

BAMF 1.6.3
i know i can quickly depress/release the pwr button to lock the screen, but is there a quick method/setting to "lock" the phone requiring a password to unlock without powering down? i'm sure there's an app out there. just wondering if i'm missing something native to the phone or to bamf.
thanks
mark

You can put your screen timeout down to 15 seconds.

would prefer not to do that. would prefer something like a short cut/keystroke.
by the way, is there a way to create a shortcut for settings>security>lock phone after>immediately?

Why would you need something like that though? I don't understand the benefits of it compared to just pressing the power button. j/w

I don't have an answer to the original question, but thought I'd point out that in addition to locking the phone, you may want to lock your "SIM." Doing so prevents someone from using your SIM in another phone and running up your bill.
I believe the default SIM PIN1 is 1111 for all VZW SIMs.

I thought that each LTE sim is registered to the MEID of your Thunderbolt and is unable to be used in others. (without extensive EPST work) Hence the reason people were getting brand new TB's also had to get brand new SIM cards?

You didn't read the material Verizon provided with your phone, did you? Right there on the front of the Activation Guide: "To learn more about your 4G LTE SIM card, visit verizonwireless.com/4GSIM" Poke around, and you'll find this:
the SIM card is portable and can be used in any Verizon Wireless-certified 4G device. All usage will be billed to the account associated with the 4G SIM card.

Ahhhh, so i am actually supposed to read those pages with words on them? I thought it was just packing material.
I've honestly never read one phone manual i've ever had. Not cause I know everything about a phone before I get it, but I just rather find out everything myself. If i had to get a replacement shipped to me I'm sure I would have found that out then.
But also, I don't know if you saw some other threads or not, but i remember people saying they went in and got replacements and had to get a new SIM also. They said the VZW reps had said that the SIM is not transferrable. I don't know for sure, just saying what was said.

If you set it to lock phone immediately, it will lock when you press the power button fast. The screen will turn off and the phone locks. When you press the power button next, the screen turns on and you need to swipe to unlock screen. You then enter password to unlock phone.
I have done it this way and it works fine. Hitting the power button once fast is the same as if you had an icon for it. The nice part is you can be on any screen.

just use the app i posted and if you need a password set it up in settings in security and viola just what your asking for software app to lock and password on unlock
also here is the patch to make the volume rocker wake the device also so then you could wake the phone with volume button and power buttton

[Q] fascinate activation

Is there a way to get around the activation on the Verizon Fascinate? Either through keys or flashing.
Not sure what you mean.
Sent from my fascinating fascinate!
There is a method to manually activate the phone without over the air activation that is normally done. I'm not sure of the process to actually do so, but was informed that it is possible to do at one point as I was complaining about the poor service in my apartment to a CSR once and they said there is a manual process that can be done.
I think he may mean get past the activation screen without activating the phone. I think it may be something like touching each corner of the screen.

That sounds more like touch calibration to me. I've seen several reps do this in-store.
Instead of hitting activate, hit emergency dialer and type *#83786633 then press the home key.

when the "touch android to begin" setup screen appears; touch top left, then top right, next bottom right, and last bottom left of screen. This will bypass the activation portion of setup but phone will need to be activated using *228 after setup. This came in handy when I had my droid x during the 2.2 update. Several issues came up after 2.2 update because of app data from 2.1 and froyo conflicts. bypassing activation allowed the user to turn off automatically restore data before activating the phone in order to avoid restoring 2.1 data to apps.

[Q] Use Atrix without MotoBlur Account

Every once in a while I hear somebody mention using the Atrix without signing in to MotoBlur.
I did an exhaustive search, and I can't see this question answered anywhere.
Can I use my Atrix without signing in to/creating a MotoBlur account? I'd much rather just not have one.
I'm using mine without Blur. When I started, at the blur setup screen, typed Alt e Alt e Alt bluroff and now no need to login to blur. Just used gmail to import contacts and other apps for facebook
Wow didn't know you could do that...
Does anyone have more information on this? Do you press the ?123 button, then the Alt key, or you actually type Alt? Is there spaces in this? I cannot get it to work.. Thanks. Also do you type this in the New Account field?
I don't know why other people are having problems with this, I just skipped the sign in because I wasn't connected to any network and it didn't bother me again.

Did you have a sim card inserted? When first starting up without a sim I can't log into it. The only option is to make an emergency call. The only card I have is activated, so it automatically connects.
I started it up with a Rogers SIM card before I unlocked it from Bell, so maybe that was what let me skip it.

I tried this method (Alt e Alt e Alt bluroff) for at least 30 mins with no success!
What I'm missing here?
I found a way to bypass the "no sim inserted screen" But bypassing motorblur using that method did not work for me.
HOW TO BYPASS "NO SIM INSERTED" IN MOTOROLA ATRIX:
-Power up the phone while holding "Volume Down" until "fastboot" appears in top of screen.
-Use the "volume down" button to navigate through booting options until you see "Boot Android (No Bp) then press "Volume Up".
-The phone will boot up right to the motorblur screen skipping the "Emergency Call/No SIM Inserted" one.
*blah* I don't want any association to Blurr if I can, though the remote wipe is very attractive, lol. Anyways, can't you press back? lol I'm not sure if I did that but I vaguely remember pressing something to skip it. I could have been like SilentStrike with my Rogers sim but it was already unlock when I did my 2nd factory reset.

To minimize battery drain when you're not needing/using data? I guess you could leech wifi as often as possible too but know many people have asked about disabling 4G, I can only assume its power consumption related.
Don't pull out the SIM card. What happen if you loose it? You'll be ended up by paying additional charge for replacing new sim card.
The good way to disable 4G is just type:
*#*#4636#*#* when you want to make call.
Then, scroll down until you see the word says "CDMA + LTE/EvDo".
Click that and change it to "CDMA PRL Auto".
If you want to use 4G, just do the steps above, and instead of "CDMA PRL Auto", change it to "CDMA + LTE/EvDo" (you can also change to "LTE mode" if you want 4G only).
Hopefully, it will help you

You can "automate" this is a way by downloading an app called "Phone Info" by [email protected] It allows you to enable/disable 4G. Basically does exactly what dialing would do but is faster and easier.

Thanks for the link. My app drawer's cluttered enough with apps, though; maybe after we get root and can remove all the bloat/crap-ware.
I usually just add a contact with all the dialer codes so I don't have to memorize them. I'm in a 4G area, so don't really see the need for this personally, but nice to know the trick anyways.

I used to have the same issue with a cluttered app drawer (I'd uninstall apps I used occasionally just to shrink my app drawer). I started using ADW Launcher EX a while back and it lets you make different app drawer versions. Basically you can choose which apps show up in the app drawer, so you can hide all the bloatware icons and leave the apps you use all the time. Then when you want one of your rarely used apps, just switch to the "ALL" app drawer and it will show every app installed on your phone. Just a suggestion, I found it to be really helpful.

So, what's the way to use Thunderbolt in overseas CDMA networks that doesn't offer 4G LTE service.
Is manual PRL programming (mean ##DIAG mode) or R-UIM card possible solution for this problem?
If you use LauncherPro you can create an Activity to go directly to the phoneinfo screen. I use this all the time to turn off 3G on my Droid1 when I'm at work thanks to no 3g at all.
Long press the home screen, add shortcut, then Activities. Select Settings and scroll down for what seems for ever until you see Phone info and select it.

[Q] Bypass Sprint activation

Hey Folks, I am an owner of a new HTC Evo View 4g hoping to find answers to the following questions...
Is there a way to bypass the Sprint Hands Free Activation when you power up Evo View 4g?
Is there a way to cancel the constant sync of nothing? When it is powered on an connected to wifi the "sync" icon shows up, but when I go to Settings>Accounts & Sync, there is nothing checked. So I click on "Cancel Sync" and it stops.
I have S-off, root and CWM recovery, with HBoot 1.13.
Any help would be appreciated.
I would like to know how to disable the hands free activation as well, it is super annoying. My View is bone stock, unrooted.
Bump!
Anyone have any ideas?
Install No Lock - click on No Lock to switch on Locking Disabled - when you next boot up No Lock blows away the Sprint Logo and Activation screen - at least that worked for me
I think you can get rid of the nagging prompt if you can somehow obtain the MSL/SPC code.
If I am thinking this correctly, after you obtain the MSL/SPC code, you need to go into EPST mode (read here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1146127) then change the phone number to something else...
The hard part is getting the MSL/SPC.
OR you can just sign up for a service, have it activated, then just turn the radio off and cancel the service within 3 days for a full refund.
Done.
No Lock works for me too!
Thanks matthew2582. The No Lock app trick works for me too. For the benefit of others who wan't to try it, i noticed the following caveats: The tablet must be in Airplane mode (yes, wifi still works in airplane mode) and you must turn the tablet off rather than use the restart option.
Love this forum. I looked for solutions on this issue for hours unsuccessfully (well, I found options that involved rooting the tablet, but didn't want to go that route) before finding this.
Does anyone have a link to NO LOCK? I have purchased these as gifts so I want to give them the information on how to remove the activation menu if required.
Also, can this be done from STOCK without ROOTING?
No Lock is free of charge and in the Market here -- https://market.android.com/details?id=org.jraf.android.nolock
And you don't need to do anything in terms of changing any wifi or airplane settings -- just install the app, enable No Lock and you are all set
Sent from my HTC_Flyer_P512_NA using Tapatalk
And I forgot to mention -- no rooting required -- just stock app for stock tablet
Sent from my HTC_Flyer_P512_NA using Tapatalk
Matthew...good news. Thank you! One last question, if you uninstall No Lock, will the Sprint items stay gone?
Nothing is being changed or removed in any way -- No Lock just turns off screen locking and has the coincidental effect of zipping past the Sprint boot screen and their activation screen

I installed No Lock and still get the sprint boot screen and activation, any tips or tricks I'm missing?

Hrmph, not finding any place that has a phone number to change here.
Has anyone contacted sprint or htc to see if there is anything that can be done to remove the activation? I'm sure there has to be someway to disable it. I mean I'm sure not everyone that's buying them is using them on the sprint network. Maybe if you call HTC they can help out.
Also an easy way to get the MSL is in terminal emulator just type "getprop ril.MSL" (no root required) I'm not sure if it works on the view but I know it works on sprint phones.

V10 - T-Mobile version - accessing the hidden menu?

I've done a search and haven't found anything so far, so, thought I'd ask here:
What is the purpose of the hidden menu?
How do you access it?
What will it break if I activate it (I've seen some saying that it will break knock on (which i don't use any way and just seems gimmicky)?
Thanks in advance.
Nevermind, found it elsewhere: To access it, you have to input the code 277634#*# into the dialer.

Hasn't broken my knock-on, either.

There was a specific setting you'd have to change in order to break it. I don't remember which one.
Sent from my LG-H901 using Xparent Skyblue Tapatalk 2
I have the T-Mobile version and it was too strong of a coincidence that knock on broke the same day I discovered the hidden menu and started exploring. I didn't notice which menu broke knock on but I do know it had to be something I tapped in the hidden menu because I wasn't doing any other kind of modifications to the phone.
Really it just depends how boldly you explore the hidden menu options. If you do just be prepared to have to perform a reset.
Good news is that if you do break knock on, a device reset will fix it.
Also the official LG backup software seems to back everything up, app settings and even side loaded apps. It's just a little awkwardly implemented in that for security verification it requires you to re-enter the google accounts you had on your phone when you did the backup in order for it to even begin the restoration.
Meaning reset phone, re-enter your google account(s) on your phone, say no to google's auto restoration, then perform the LG bridge restoration.
Since google can automatically partially restore you'll have to say no and just leave it to the LG restoration process otherwise you'll have Play store restoring and updating apps at the same time the LG Bridge is trying to restore.
Played around with the hidden menu and indeed broke my knock feature. Didn't even change anything. I thought something was wrong with the phone. Took it back to tmobile for an exchange.
You can use any shortcut app off play store to put a link to the hidden menu knockon setting and turn it on and off.
I also have accessed it to enable fast dormancy to improve battery life for my TMO V10. It did not disable my knock features thankfully.

Great, however when there are no settings to turn it back on readily available (ie, in the settings menu), it DOES break it. Back when the issue was discovered, the only way outof off the problem was a reset. I'm glad there's another way now, though.

I also have accessed it to enable fast dormancy to improve battery life for my TMO V10. It did not disable my knock features thankfully.

i looked at fast dormancy but i'm wondering if you get missed calls or dropped tet messages i turned it on to see a bit ago, but i wondering if i can leave it on seeing that i need to be able to get calls and text all the time.
now I'm all worried about giving this a try, lol, will do it anyways though cause well, it's me.
Went to WIFI and hit the last option of the Upsell page (hopefully unlimited tethering is mine now)
Knock on still works
