Unlocking/relocking - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok so I should be getting a locked to o2 galaxy s 2. I will be unlocking it. When I get it is another issue all together, thanks o2. My question is whether it is possible to "relock it" just in case I need to return it.
Any one knows of a way? Thanks.

I got one from O2 on tuesday (Instore) and it was already unlocked! but if yours isnt then i think there was someone on ebay selling the unlock code for £12
but O2 will send you an unlocking code for free if you call and ask them, but it may take a while. you wont need to relock it as O2 allow you to unlock it as its completely legal.

Thanks, but so if I unlock it using for example the unlock codes found on ebay I should have no problem with regards to warranty, right?

Lock is not a legal requirement as long as unlocking does not break your phone it does not matter in the warranty stakes .

[Q] Galaxy S II PAYG from O2 (Can It Be Unlocked???)

Hello guys
This is a question for people that purchased this phone from O2 as PAYG, received it locked and managed to get it unlocked.
As you all know, O2 sells this phone for £399, but SIM Free costs £499+, so it would be great to get this phone from O2 and get it unlocked by a cheap service, just saying... lol
If you are one that got it locked from O2 as PAYG and managed to get it unlocked, would you be kind enough to tell me and others that read this post, how did you managed to do it, was by inputting an unlock code purchased from the internet, was it by taking the phone to an unlock shop or some other method?
If it was by taking the phone to an unlock shop, how much does it cost and how long did it take them to unlock?
I really want to purchase the Galaxy S 2 from O2, but first want to find out if it can be unlocked so I can use it with my 3 Sim, if it can be unlocked, whats the best and easiest method?
Its best to ask those who had hands on experience, therefore your responce would be much appreciated.
Thank You.
Best Regards Guys
Kwazy Ivan

How to Unlock ATRIX for going abroad?

Hi everyone,
I'm a UK user and will be flying to Dubai in a few days. Is there a ROM I can download that will unlock the ATRIX for me? I want to be able to use it in Dubai using a local network/sim.
Would I have to get a specific unlock code or could I just root the phone instead which would unlock it?
Orange customer. I need it unlocked asap.

No ROM/program. Rooting/bootloader unlocking are unrelated to sim unlocking.
You can try purchasing a sim unlock code from places online. I believe celluunlock or something is popular. But I remember seeing posts or threads that it doesn't always work or there long delays in getting the codes.
Other option is to call your carrier (guessing Orange), tell them your situation and ask if they can provide you an unlock code.

My SIM unlock took about 15 minutes and cost $20.00. The Atrix has been out for a while now. I suspect that SIM unlocks are pretty routine these days. If your carrier won't do it, or is too expensive, ask the unlocking people how long it will take.

Unlocking Bootloader on O2, a web chat

Just had a chat with O2 support regarding bootloaders, and thought you might like to see the result. I'll visit the shop at weekend and see what they say!
---: Hi I'm ---. How can I help?
---: Hi, i've got a Xperia S on contract with you, is it possible to unlock the bootloader to install root software?
---: i'm aware it will void warranty etc, having done the same thing to my old HTC Desire.
---: Let me check that.
---: Please can you tell me the -th and -th character of the answer to your security question?
---: Perfect.
---: Yes you can do that in the O2 shop.
---: Is there anything else I can help you with?
---: oh great, is there a charge?
---: That's you'll be discuss in the shop.
---: I can't comment on that now.
---: ok, thanks
I have the same o2 xperia s. Wait for your result mate. Thanks.
Would many shops really have techs that'd be able? Most staff I've ever talked to instore know how to Factory Reset and little else.

Well that's a lie I work at o2 and we can't unlock your bootloader or unlock your phone in any store. You can unlock your phone which should enable you to unlock your boot loader. Waiting for my unlock code to test it out

I got the sim unlock code, but that does nothing for the bootloader. Any chance you could find out more so I don't have to go into town on Saturday?
I've sim unlocked my phone via o2 and also debranded to a generic firmware also, still says no to bootloader unlocking - anyone have any other ideas?
I hope this can be sorted soon.

Hi!
had the same situation with my provider (A1, Austria). Phone is bootloader-locked. (A1 told me in advance that i wouldn't be).
They told me to call Sony, where they told me unlocking of Sim-öock is possible at shops but NOT unlocking of bootloader lock
Dont know if that information is correct, but now i bought a free one and am goidg to sell the provider-phone ....
Greetings
Bax
Yea same problem here sim unlocked but not for boot loader. O2 will not be able to unlock I'm store. All they can do is flash the o2 generic firmware back on your device.
The only solution to unlock the bootloader in XPS is EMMA.
Could you elaborate and is this doable myself?

+1 to that.
I've been into the O2 store, the 'Guru' said they wouldn't know how to do it in store. I'll emaill O2 next and see what they say.
Latest update, email from O2 says that only the manufacturer can do this! So next step is to get in contact with Sony lol

Sounds familiar, my Provider (A1) told me to contact Sony, too. Bit Sony said, no way to unlock a bootloader-locked phone ...
EMMA software can unlock the bootloader but is one thing to clarify. EMMA must be connected to SONY remote desktop and a special card SE and card reader are needed.

No way can O2 do it in-store.
Been there, done that.

question about lumia 800 sim unlock

I appologies if the question doesnt belong here but i really thourougly searched before posting and i couldnt find clear answer.
Im a owner of lumia 800 unfortunatly sim locked to orange austria and bootloader locked.
Before offtopic answers i already tried talking to orange and that is not going to happen and also i couldnt find one single online service for imei unlock all of them dont support orange austria.
So my question is do you know anyone successfully unlocked lumia and what software, hardware or flashing box has used? and to you know any hardware flashing box that supports closed bootloader lumias for sim unlocking? i understand bootloader unlocking is not possible right now but a local service shop told me to leave the phone for 2 days to put it on some hardware box to calculate the key for 2 days?! and then they will unlock it but i really didnt believed them seemed littel strange never heard of that kinda unlocking. have you?
unlock
Your out of luck looking for a software solution for unlocking your lumia as your bootloader is locked, that means no access to the nand which is crucial to the unlock process.
only way you will be able to unlock it is by calling orange again, now dont quote me but i think there is a EU Law saying that after a certain time period a operator cant with held the unlock but i am not totaly sure maybe some reaseaching and telling orange the score might help
rob:good:
In the EU it's a by nation thing with different laws, in Austria there is a legal obligation to unlock the mobile phone (lucky!) but T-Mobile charges €150 for the pleasure (or €50 for out of contract phones) of unlocking an iPhone for instance.

ill try that in fact i contacted them again and they offered me unlock for 110eu. and the problem with that i think its a bit 2 much and the second one they want me to go to austria in a orange shop to show them the reciept (that i dont have it right now) and the account password that i dont have it and practictly stupid to pay airline tickets and travel to there and pay 110 eu and even that its imposible again couse theyll mail me code weeks later only in austrian adress so the only option it seems to continue to seek online service or wait some progres in the bootloader unlocking. Personaly i think it can be done but i really dont blame the developers its still a small owners community and nokia codding its not as liberal as the android manufacturers. But still i like the phone its like a piece of functional jewel
