Did you sign up for samsung dive?

No...Can the unlock pattern be by-passed easily?

Try plan b from market.
Plan B from Lookout labs is a find my phone app that you download. AFTER you lose your phone. Thanks to the new Android market, all you have to do is: Login to the Android Market, Find Plan B and Install it. Plan B will start locating your phone using cell towers and GPS. It will email you the location every 10 mins. It works best if you have the GPS enabled already as the app can not do that by it'self.

Yeah pretty easily from my experience... Not sure how many people know how to though

Surely flashing a stock rom with repartition will remove it? You don't need the pattern to get in download mode. Sorry to hear about your loss.

They wouldn't even need to repartition... This is the only downside of an unlocked bootloader phone.
Thing is, thieves tend to be the lowest levels of civilisation, so will they know how to get it into download mode? Or how to correctly flash it in ODIN? Or do they even know about the possibility of such modes?
Yes, some thieves are smart, but most ain't.

I just don't want them to access my info...I rather they had to wipe it and keep the damn thing.
Will try the App also...thanks.

i guess you didnt install mobile defense or any tracking app to your phone. that's the first thing that gets installed to my device, automatically actually because its tied to my google account. so i can go to mobiledefense website and track my phone, wipe the phone remotely, etc. sorry for such a loss!

I use mobile defense, but I heard they closed off for new users. I don't know, but similar apps exist like where's my Droid or something like that.

Prey project is free iirc.

Lookout is and app that allows you to perform wipes, & locate your device also.

I've also used LostPhone(stop sign for app icon)

Have you rang your network and reported it stolen?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App

no one mentioned the first thing to do!
CHANGE YOUR GOOGLE PASSWORD!!

Yes I changed Google password 1st thing..Sim card was not in the phone, did not think network would help.

give the network your ime number and they will block the phone for you.

the network can only stop the activity on the SIM card (phone is irrelevant, and they can't do **** besides deactivating the SIM imho)

[App] avast! now on android

avast! Antivirus is now on android. I installed it and it offers a butt load of features!
My personal favorite feature is the anti theft mode! it will allow you to save two contacts so that you can activate it through text message from those contacts by entering in the password. It will also notify those contacts if the person changes the SIM card and it will send the new number through message (stealth mode).
Here are some of the many features you all might like...
App Disguiser
After downloading avast! Anti-Theft, user can choose a custom name that disguises the app (e.g. call it “Pinocchio game”) so that it is even harder for thieves to find and remove.
Stealth Mode
Once anti-theft is enabled, the app icon is hidden in the app tray, leaving no audio or other trace on the target phone – the app is ‘invisible’, making it difficult for thieves to detect or remove.
Self-Protection
Extremely difficult for thieves to remove (especially on rooted phones), Anti-Theft protects itself from uninstall by disguising its components with various self-preservation techniques. On rooted phones it is able to survive hard-resets and can even disable the phone’s USB port.
SIM-Card-Change Notification
If stolen and a different (unauthorized) SIM card inserted, the phone can lock, activate siren, and send you notification (to remote device) of the phone’s new number and geo-location.
Trusted SIM Cards List
Establish a ‘white list’ of approved SIM cards that can be used in the phone without triggering a theft alert. You can also easily clear the trusted SIM cards list, to leave the one present in the phone as the only trusted one.
Remote Features
SMS commands provide you the following REMOTE options for your ‘lost’ (or stolen) phone:
Siren, Lock, custom Display properties, Locate, Memory Wipe, covert Calling, Forwarding, “Lost” Notification, SMS Sending, History, Restart, and more.
This antivirus by far has the best features! Best part is that it's free!!!!!!!!!!!!
A) antivirus is not necessary on the android operating system unless you're downloading...."shifty " stuff let's say.
B) yeh antitheft is really a GREAT feature holy geez. Unless of course they simply....wipe data and flash a new rom.
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
Yeah, if somehow we can put some lock code on flashing of new Rom then only anti theft has a meaning otherwise the thief can easily flash a new Rom and use the phone.
It is only be useful when we have left our phone somewhere and unable to locate it.

Downloaded something from the amazon app store a month ago and it was infected, Dr. web removed it....
Also I don't believe that if you lose your phone the thief will race home, learn how to wipe the atrix quickly and download a new ROM all within minutes. If I lost my phone I would know immediately and would start the anti theft process. Not all thief's are smart and in fact, if your a thief your not smart. You can have it disable a lot of features like the USB and other stuff if stolen just by messaging the phone and it all goes undetected..
But the app is not for everyone...... I would find it useful in a tight spot and I would rather have a CHANCE then no chance.
From what I can tell in the description you can set it up so Avast survives a hard reset so that you can still track the phone and lock it

There's a whole thread on this exact subject with links to articles about market apps being removed for trojans, etc. Nothing you download over any network or from any source can be guaranteed to be safe. If you believe it is, you are very naive.
The use of anti-virus is purely optional. Some like myself value it while others do not, but to plainly say you just don't need it is just bad advice to put it simply.

ummmmm that is an option guy, not a requirement... why do people come up with the lamest questions about why they don't need the app (rhetorical question)
If you misplaced your phone and you realize within minutes yes you can do the siren thing to locate it quickly other then that the siren has no other use........ They have an option for almost every situation.
and the term used earlier in the thread, "QFT" is one of the dumbest internet terms, its equivalent to hitting the ******* THANKS button

Great share! I'm an avast pc users and love that its on android.
I am a premium lookout user and think its time to cancel my scrip.
A few questions, some of the features are locked and say download anti-theft root installation... cant find this anywhere. I am rooted on cm7 and ul bootloader
Also, I can not access anti-theft advanced settings for hard reset protection.
Lastly, where can I find the command list for how to track my phone and any other commands.
Thanks!!
Installed and testing. I want to see if it can replace 'Droid wall'. Kaspersky which i've been using for over a year hasn't got many features in my opinion...
no need for an antivirus on android. and there are plenty of antitheft apps. and besides just get a firewall. so if u DO happen to get a shifty app that wants to send data back home, usually a GOOD firewall will not allow it.
i wouldnt and dont worry about shifty apps anyways. My phone isnt used to hold anything important. i dont do business on it thats for sure lol. i dont order stuff on the net with it neither. If the website has a number to call and order I use it.
There are alot of people out there that do EVERYTHING from there phone.
for them, well i dont know what to tell ya. except never rely on anything.

Especially dangerously bad advice from uninformed and careless users.
Remember not too long ago, everyone thought Apples were immune to malware.
Also, viruses are but only one form of malware.
There is no substitute for caution and careful behavior.

Galaxy S3 Stolen, Finding via Google Accounts?

Had my damn phone stolen, some prats smashed my window through and took everything. I've tried installing all of those tracking apps, but it seems my phones either constantly turned off, or has been wiped.
But I've had another idea! One day they are bound to use my phone, and set up another google account with it. I was wondering, is there anyway that I could find out what google account they use?
Thanks
If you've registered your phone in the Samsung account... You will be able to track it from the Samsung my account website..
Have you installed any third party app which provides phone tracking such as cerbrus or Avast? If you have.. It's gonna be a lot more easier.. Hope that the thief's haven't done a full wipe and a factory reset on your phone!
Hope you find your phone back!

PS don't ask any more questions in this section, it's against the rules
Yea I've been down the installing apps route, nothing so far. So I wont be able to see when another google account signs into my device at all?
Keep trying with Plan B, it's probably out of battery, at some point someone will charge it up and turn on. I'd keep trying everytime I had a chance for a week....

[Solved] Is an application incurring charges on my prepaid SIM?

Hi everyone!
This is oreo27, I used to be a moderator in one of the more popular Symbian modding oriented forums. I recently switched to Android and I got most of my resources here on XDA. Firstly, I'd like to say that the wealth of information in this forum is amazing! I learned the basics of modding and was able to root my device and understand a lot of concepts in a matter of hours. :good:
In any event, I seem to be having an issue with the Galaxy S3 I9300 I'm using.
I only use this phone for the applications. The prepaid SIM I've placed is only for the data usage (paid daily) and I don't use it at all for SMS or calls. I've noticed that my prepaid top up/credits/load (whatever you call it in your place) has been reduced for no reason. I'm thinking that an application may be sending an SMS/making a phone call which is causing the charges.
My question is this, is there any application that can monitor/block outgoing SMS/Calls? I've resorted to messing with application permissions and I'm afraid that I may screw something up or worse, miss whatever application is causing this. I could call the carrier but I want to make sure these charges are not coming from my end first.
Hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

If you use it for apps only a lot of them connect to the internet to work properly so will use data
You could try something like this app here to monitor usage it may help, you can search the play store for data usage app and you will get a lot to choose from if this one is no good for you.
You could also pull down the notification panel and turn off Mobile Data if not already done, its another thing to try to see of it stops the data charges being incurred.

The comments were left for the OP as he stated he was on an unlimited promotional data plan when it happened 'was on, not is on' and he pays for a sim but only uses it for data, not calls or text messages so what I linked him to will allow him to monitor this, if he does not find it helpful then really it is for him to tell me, or not bother responding, either way its his choice.

Yes, I was on unlimited data when it occurred. Is there an application that can block all other applications aside from the default, from sending an SMS or making phone calls without my knowledge? That was the actual application that I was looking for. Sorry for the confusion.
That's the only explanation as to why the prepaid top up was reduced. Thanks for the prompt responses.

No, it hasn't thankfully.
In any event, I've resorted to manually revoking permissions of applications that have, in my best judgement, need of Sending SMS using an application called App Ops 4.3 / 4.4 KitKat. That should sort things out. From my understanding it's just a native application on 4.3 and above that's currently not accessible. I've been using it since today and everything seems in order.

My HTC One was lost or stolen! How to get it back?

Create an account and login here: https://www.cerberusapp.com/ I'm not sure if you can set it up remotely, I think you have to login to Cerberus from the phone the first time.
You can also try PlanB which I know will work without setting it up first, it just needs to be installed through play store. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lookout.labs.planb
Obviously, the phone will need to be connected to wifi or mobile data for the locate to work, but it sounds like they are doing that already if you are getting Dropbox updates.

if its on and tied to your google account you don't need an app, can track it on google device manager website..
You are right but it seems that it is not always connected to WiFi. I'll try to locate it from time to time in case I managed to do it at the same time they connect it to the internet.
Thanks
Android lost is a good app I tested it... You just need to register and u can so so via text msg...

The girls who have my phone just took a picture of one of their friends phone number. I'm planning to call but don't know how to make them help me get my phone back. Also I want to know if any of you know how could I get info on the number.
I wouldn't call, it will tip them off that you are looking for it, which they probably don't suspect.
How about looking at the modified timestamp of when the Dropbox pictures upload to your account, that would give you an idea of when to use ADM to locate it, since it would be on wifi.
They probably plug it in to charge at roughly the same time each day and wifi will remain while charging.

Question Spy/malware removal

Is there any kind that actually works? I keep fishing around on Google play and everything is either old, doesn't work, or is full of sh*t, or a combination of all 3.
Welcome to XDA
If you're running Android 9 or higher simply do a factory reset. There are no known rootkits that can worm out of the user partition, once that data is wiped so is the malware.
Don't reload it again after the factory reset.

You're welcome. The other way is to find the malware and delete it completely.

Which would be how? Would I need a app or something for the pc? And if so do you have any recommendations? I have the mixsilver file manager on my phone (pixel 6 "Not pro"). Would there be a way I could find it thru there? Also my device is not rooted. So would I need to root? I'm sorry if this gets on your nerves. If so tell me, won't hurt my feelings. I'm literally a noob at this stuff. I've been trying to teach myself and just do trial and error but im getting in over my head and don't wanna accidentally brick my phone or worse.
What makes you sure you have spy/malware? Or do you mean adware?
Cheers
Tom
With Avast or AVG Antivirus you can do a pretty good scan of your apps, even system apps if you want.
For Factory reset see here https://support.google.com/pixelphone/answer/4596836
or go here on a PC (you need your Pixel connected by usb to the PC then): https://pixelrepair.withgoogle.com/carrier_selection

Chrome ****tin out 3 gigs of data a day. I have unlimited so it's not that big of a deal but still.....and some of the options I had in settings like "permissions, enable/disable, clear data/cache" that I know for a fact I had not too long ago are now greyed out or nonexistent. Also sometimes when I bring up "location" thru the settings menu everything is supposed to be "off" but there's 2 or 3 that look like they are switching back to say "off" as soon as the page shows. 1 of them outright takes several seconds to display any "on or off" setting at all. I've found a "Verizon" system app on my phone, some kind of Samsung telephony thing. And it seems like I can input a change to settings or something and when I look at my phone in the morning everything I had set up is back to it's previous settings.

Thank you. Umm.....stupid question but I've never done a full reset before so.....how and would I need to move my apps to another storage or could I just go back thru the play store and redownload? And any paid apps and subscriptions?
It probably explains all that in those links doesn't it?
Just do factory reset and you are okay.. Then start using phone as new..

For what it's worth, the Verizon system app comes with the phone in case you use a Verizon sim.
If you end up clean flashing or factory resetting, I would not restore any apps from backups. I would reinstall everything fresh or you could just be putting the malware back on your phone, if that indeed is what you have.

Just redownload them. Google remembers your bought apps or subscriptions in your Google account, so as long as you use the same email/account for logging in to Playstore after Factory reset you're good.
Your contacts normally are also synced to your Google Account, so you get them back also then.

It comes with the phone by default just in case you do use Verizon. Basically that app helps give the phone Verizon support, of sorts. It's disabled by default if you don't use Verizon so there's really nothing to worry about with that app.

Man thank you. There's stuff on here that I don't understand and I've been thinking it's something I've downloaded or whatever. I'm new to all of this.
