[Q] Music Beta not compatible? - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I don't get the music beta app in the market. When I try to download it online it tells me my eris is not compatible. Is this a hardware thing? Will it never become available? Same issue with the Netflix app.

There are a couple of apk's floating around that will install on the Eris of each of those apps. I've tried out the Music app and it worked fine for me until you put it into landscape mode and try to do something. Then it would force close. The Netflix app installed with no problem, however, for it to work on the Eris it seems you have to modify the build prop to make your phone look like a Nexus and even then I'm not sure it will work properly. The netflix app alone with no data and not signing in is 26.1 MB in size installed on the phone... That's a big app... More than double the size of maps.

This kind of thing happens when an app is not officially "supported" on our phones, like if you searched for Flash player 10.3. But if you get the .apk, there is always that slight chance that is may work [And here's a link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1072655]

OK, here's how nube I am. What do I do with an apk? Do I need something like root manager to open and install it?

Tasker on Touchpad?

I have been using Tasker for over a year now on my Atrix and would love to load it on my touchpad, but it appears it is not suppported according to the Android Market. Has anyone gotten it to install? Is this just a matter of the Market or the app creator not being caught up with the dev done on the touchpad?
Maybe copy your tasker apk form your Atrix, than use it on TP?

Sounds almost too easy, if I could only find it on my phone I would... Anyone know there it would be stored by default when downloaded from the Market?

You can use an app called bluetooth file transfer. Once paired theres an option to send apps from your phone to the touchpad. It works great...

/data/app/
You can just email it to yourself and install from the attachment.
If you can't find it that way, you can download app monster, and manually make a backup of Tasker, then navigate to app monster folder and email it from there. This is what I do when apps dont show in the market. Hell, Im bored ill try right now.
and yes Tasker works beautifully.

It shows up in the Market from my TouchPad for me. I've had it installed since the first day I switched over to CM7, but I haven't really done much with it, except to verify that it does recognize events and execute tasks.
So I tried coping it from my phone, but when I ran the apk it wouldn't install on the touchpad. In the market my device is greyed out unfortunatly, I am using MIUI... Guess I will have to try the backup route
Maybe a MIUI vs CM issue?

I didn't think this was piracy, they are running a promotion. If it is, I can take it down.
its not promotion..Its the new way to make money off paid by giving it for free......developed by Getjar....its not piracy at all,I dont know how it works....I downloaded BW from there long time ago and still running rock solid...
Guys, this is not piracy, it's a new "Gold App Sale" by Getjar. There's some great apps in there too!
the only thing i cant get to download on the TP is Tapatalk
edit: anyone know a quick download code?
Seems like some cool apps here not sure how to get them on the touchpad though as it doesn't seem to be a supported device.. Any ideas? Where do I get the getjar app I don't see it on their page anywhere...
use the default android browser and make sure you have it set to mobile. when you browse to http://m.getjar.com it will auto download the apk and you can install that way

I was able to get Tapatalk, although it gave me an error the first time I tried.
I was also having issues downloading at first using Dolphin browser, but using the stock browser it worked just fine. The first time I tried to DL an app, it said I needed GetJar and linked me to the file.
do you think you can use your PC browser and the quick download code and post it here? what device do you have it set to? I'm currently set on "Free Download".

they're different in the fact that they are currently updated very slowly... getjar just made it available to have developers push their updates... before, you had to know there was an update and redownload the app... i got my first push yesterday, so i see it's working
getjar makes money by sponsors... you'll see them throughout the site
Same problem as other, when i search/enter the code for the app (in my case it's Tweetcaster Pro, Tapatalk and Splashtop Remote Desktop) i get the "no compatible version for my device" text which is ridiculous because i have a Captivate and the Android Market shows those apps just fine. Any ideas? Can someone post the .apk i mean if they are free its not illegal right? And also if i get the .apk, will it update automatically when with the new push system from GetJar?

Thanks, it only worked for Splashtop, TweetCaster Pro and Tapatalk keep saying the device is not compatible i mean wtf!?!? I tried with GS II and Galaxy Nexus and both say not compatible. Anyone that has already downloaded Tapatalk from the GetJar app can tell me the device they are using and the name code so i can modify the Build.prop and download the app.
ro.product.model=GT-i9100
ro.product.brand=samsung
it has worked with everything in getjar... i have a crash here and there but they all have downloaded...
if you've changed this... reboot... it took awhile for google's android market to see the change... i probably restarted 3 times... even went into webos once and back to cm7...
the only thing i've had a problem with working at all (it did download) is Advanced Task Manager
i get:
Sorry! The application Advance Task Manager (process con.arron.taskManager) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.
edit:
just tried another app... Aces Jewel Hunt downloaded and installed but closes right after the splash screen opens
Yhea i tried with that. i wasn't able to download the Splashtop before changing the build.prop and after changing that and rebooting i could. But i couldn't download the other two apps, i mean i even tried going on the browser to getjar.com and changed my device to the i9100 and even there i can't seem to get the code for the download because i get the same message that my device isn't compatible and im talking about the PC browser. Im gonna change again to the i9100 on the phone and wait a day or so and try again from the app, i don't understand why i have to do all this the app should be compatible.
Thanks again for the suggestions though

Nexus Q Working on ICS

I have some of this posted in the Q&A but thought it deserved a thread here as I now have it working with Google Play Music on ICS. I have not been able to get the new YouTube application ported over to ICS yes but I'm still working on it.I could probably get this working on Gingerbread by changing the manifest again but I no longer have a GB device so if someone really wants it let me know.
What you need:
The modified NexusQ.apk file from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28636772&postcount=23
The new 4.3.605 Google Play Music apk which is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19423409&postcount=1
A Nexus Q and WiFi network.
A device running ICS. I used my Bionic running leaked ICS but I did have to root in order to install the new 605 Play Music application.
Instructions:
Install the new (4.3.605) Google Play Music application from Steve0007's posted linked above. If you get an "Existing package with same signature.." error you will need to do the following (this is what worked on my Bionic):
WARNING: ROOTING YOUR DEVICE AND CHANGING THE SYSTEM FILES CAN CAUSE BAD THINGS TO HAPPEN, PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
Root your device (I used this method on my Bionic: http://www.droidforums.net/forum/dr...gh-releases-ics-leak-root-exploit-bionic.html.) Install Root Explorer from the market and delete the existing com.google.android.play.music.xxx.xx.xxx apk from /system/app. Reboot device. Copy 605 apk to device and install.
END SCARY ROOT WARNING
Install the modified NexusQ.apk, plug in the Q, turn on Bluetooth on your device (it will prompt you to if you don't) and get connected! I had to go through the process several times before it successfully paired up but from what I've read the same is true on JB devices as well. If you need to wipe out the Q you do so by unplugging it, plugging it back in and as soon as the blue ring starts place your palm over the single LED on the top until the ring goes from flashing red to swirling purple. This will factory reset the device. Since getting both my Bionic and Xoom paired it's worked well.
Enjoy until the official ICS and below apps drop from Google.
If anyone is successful at getting the JB YouTube application working on ICS please let me know.
Thanks to everyone that helped me get this working!
Thanks a ton!!! I've added a link to this in my roll-up (here) in the general thread so others will find it. I'm now able to use my Nexus Q, thanks again!
Eventually I'll start learning to do some dev work :/
I followed your directions but I still cannot stream anything, I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. I was able to get the Nexus Q 8 Ball easter Egg to work.
What is your current status? Do you have the 4.3.605 music player installed? If so you should have the little "beam" icon on the top right when playing music and tapping that should make the Q almost instantly start streaming that song.

Did you read the part about needing to manually remove the old play music application via root explorer (or a simple uninstall if allowed)? Have you tried either?
I wasn't too happy with Google either but the support page for the NQ does say that it is only working on JB until purchased units start shipping. Plus I've learned a lot getting this to work! ;-)

Yes I read that but the old play music was not in the system\apps directory but it was still installed so not sure. I force stopped it and uninstalled it and reinstalled it and still would not let me install the one listed.
Hmmm, I think that's two of you with problems installing on CM9. I don't have anything running that ROM (and you can probably tell I'm already pretty much at the limits of my skills) but perhaps it is installed differently in that ROM. Unfortunately I don't think I can help you with this one.

Just though I should specify what rom I had success with. I copied the app to /system/app folder and changed the permissions. I did NOT have google music previously installed. When I ran the app to install it said install failed. I then installed the NexusQ app directly from my SD card, which installed no problems. I did not try to run the NexusQ app and rebooted the phone. Once rebooted i turned on my WIFI and bluetooth and launched the NexusQ app and rebooted the Nexus Q. The app paired up with the Q no problem. I was then able to run Google Music app and play to the Q with no issues. *NOTE* When i walked out of the house (i did not manually disconnect the wifi or bluetooth, just hit the stop play music button and turned off the TV and receiver) and came back later, turned the TV and receiver back on, the visualizations or music track would not show at all. Just the NexusQ home screen. I rebooted the Q and everything is working fine again.
No, youtube does not work (which I think is posted an original post somewheres). It seems that a ported app will be needed to push youtube videos to the Q. I cannot test Google movies/TV as I dont own any.
I've tried exactly this on my HTC One S running ICS (albeit with HTC Sense) and can't get it to stream to the Q.
Everything installs fine (if I move it to /system/apps and change the permissions as mentioned) but I see no option in the Play Music app to stream to the Q.
Additionally, the new Play Music app looks it has lost quite a bit of functionality to the previous version - perhaps indicating that the installation went badly? For instance, there are much fewer options on the settings page and there's no option to choose or configure my Google account anywhere.
bobukcat - is this the case for you?

It still took a bunch of tries to get it to do anything though.

Volume control from the phone still doesn't work, and YouTube/Videos don't work either.
At least now I can enjoy it a bit until they release the real apps.

When the Q finally showed up in the new Play Music app, it was after turning wifi off/on a few times ... don't know if that's what finally did it though.

No, my play music application has all the previous functionality and even more options in Settings, including Nexus Q settings. Did you install the Q application first? I don't know why this would matter but that is what I did.
Did you just move the new play music apk to the /system/app location or did you actually install it from application manager in Astro or other file manager? I don't know that just moving the apk to that folder will work (I don't think I even tried that) so you may have to delete the old one, reboot and then install the new one from the apk. Please try that and let us know if it works.

Yeah, I've tried to rebuild the YouTube application from JB with a new manifest multiple times but I still can't get it to work right, I did finally get it to install but it just constantly FCs and never really runs. Clearly someone much more skilled than I (which wouldn't take much) at modifying apks would need to look into this or we just wait for the official app from Google to drop.
Strange that the volume control from your phone doesn't work, as long as I'm in the Play Music application it works fine on both my Bionic and Xoom.
As reported in the OP I too had lots of errors and force closes, etc. when trying to get this to run the first time but from what I've read that happens on JB devices too and in fact I had a few on my Xoom running TeamEOS nightlies.

If anyone figures out how to root this PITA let me know please. My family is technologically challenged and I help them with their tech problems. This meep is something only an overprotective mother can see any good qualities in. You can't even look at it without it being logged and sent to the parent control panel, which has been bugged out and half working every time I try to use it. Anyway, I guess my point is that I want to root it and make a proper tablet out of it. Until then, I suppose I will try to convince my family to return the damn thing and get my little sister a Nexus 7 instead.
I found it out by accident. Just install super su and some app which relies on root, I installed titanium backup and it works.
I also installed nova launcher and its also working. For app market, you can try and install root explorer and change permissions.
This could work, but since this tablet is for my little daughter, I am not interested in using market on meep.

I might have to go through with the process later, it would seem that there is yet another problem (big freakin surprise there). I did a factory reset and i may have to log into my sister's google play account again, the only problem is the only way i know of to open google play is to use the parent control thing to do it, and that is not working. I'd call support and ask about it, but honestly i've read all over the internet that they will just put you on hold and hang up on you.

Cant wait for a fix, MX player has not been updated to Lollipop either so I think time is the essence until then.

Same issue here....I can open Showbox but get "Server Error" when I try to launch a video. Hopefully, it will get fixed soon.
Showbox not working is the only reason I haven't changed to lollipop full time. ATM I just duel boot.
It's definitely incompatibility with Lollipop. I just updated my Nexus 7 to 5.0 and am getting "Server error" too...
Please post a solution if you know of any...
Just launched Shoebox and got an update. Works great now.

I uninstalled then reinstalled from Aptoid and all working fine now
I did it
Dont download the direct apk, download it from the server, i will upload the apk though (working in my nexus 9)
this is why i love ES file explorer
since im viewing this thread from a desktop,
i just saved the above apk to the NAS attached to the router.
went to es file explorer, navigated to the folder with the apk, downloaded over the air, installed, got the nod to update and boom, updated.
no wires no connecting to docks...
love this technology...
try thist

Hello, i have manage to some how get show box to work on android 5.0. Please follow my steps very close.
First. Download aptoide, on google search try searching for aptoide and download it. Aptoide is like a store to get free games and apps.
Second. On aptoide search for showbox and it should show the version 3.7 install it.
Third. Open showbox and it will probably force close or it will give you a server error.
Fourth. Go back the aptoide app and search for showbox again.
Fith. Once you have search and clicked on the showbox 3.7, click on app next to download and click on app 3.6 and install it buy taping on the downgrade icon.
6th. Open the app the app and it will no longer force close but it will still give yoy the server error.
7th. Go back to aptoide and search for showbox once again and upgrade it to 3.7 after that it will work. Well atleast that workex for me. I hope i gave good instructions as i am new to this and im just trying to help. By the way i am running android 5.0 on my nexus 6.
Thanks....the apk work for me @ mrsimpson321
