Root app? Not only kernel? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, i just got my sgs II yesterday and i wanted to ask if there is an app for rooting?
I've seen that there's a thread with "and then there was root". But i just came from SE xperia x10 and there we just had to use superoneclick.
So is it possible to only use an app or something like superoneclick? Or in near future?

Hi Mate,
Glad you escaped the x10.
We dont have Xrecovery to flash the zips as yet - as we did with the X10. J or Z might be willing to lend a hand though.
Its mainly through ODIN flashing the insecure kernel to give root access. Its quite stable and no FC's or anything like the half finished roms in the X10.
You should be able to find the thread from the DEV of SetCPU to give you overclock too.
Everything is getting there slowly.
S

I know that stuff with odin (beginner because i didnt use it yet)
So odin is something like xrec? Something similiar?
For me it's a lil bit strange to gain root only with flashing a kernel... (or did i misunderstand that?)

ok just rooted
easier then i thought
@ MODS you can close this thread if you want

New kernel question

Can someone tell me how to run the custom kernel made by z? Like exact instructions links needed clearly? I readed a few threads but didnt understand anything o.o

in that case its probably safer for you to just leave it alone. The kernel still needs work anyways and I myself am pretty firmilar with the flashing process and still managed to cause my phone to get stuck at the sony ericsson boot screen after flashing

Zzz like what the guy above me said, if your not 100% familiar with the flashing process then don't. Sigh might as well.
1 root your phone
2 install busybox and xrecovery
3 download the custom kernel
4 boot into xrecovery
5 install custom zip
6 select your kernel zip
7 wait a while, when done reboot
8 wait 10 min and done.

I want to root but......,,,

Guys i wanna root my Xperia S but i have some questions..
So basicly my questions:
1. Will i have problems with root when i want to update to ICS
2. If i update to ICS will root stay or do i have to re-root
3. If yes for question 2 will there be root for ICS the first day ICS will arrive?
4. My last question can someone give me a link for a good tutorial to root my xperia s..?
Thanks all
Sent from my LT26i using xda premium
yes for now the only way to root is to install the custom img using the fastboot which required the unlocking once you give it imei to sony the the only option to get the ICS will be via the flashtool
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1527133
So my xperia interface will change a bit if i do this root?
Sent from my LT26i using xda premium
No change to the interface once you root.
Guys come on be a little more specific, i am new to android i dont know what all these stuff means etc explain me when u say something in good details. What is flashtool. Pleaseee
Sent from my LT26i using xda premium
If you don't really understand what rooting your phone means then I would suggest that you don't really have a need to do it.
If you want to know how to unlock your bootloader and root your XS then read the relevant stickies in the Dev Forum, they explain everything in detail, you just have to spend the time to read them.

He's still running Ginger Bread!!!?????
Try here... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23181146&postcount=5
Yes, but the root bit will be the same...
Won't it?
Sent from my LT26i using Tapatalk 2
The process may be similar but he'll need to flash a pre-rooted version of the FW he's using or Doomkernel.
If he's planning on sticking with GB he'd be better to use one of DoomLord's methods so he can get CWM.
Guys the rollout for ICS is iminent do I just wait for that and root then.
Plus I cant find pre rooted 75 build any where...
Sent from my LT26i using XDA
Just go with the ICS everyone else is flashing; it works like a.charm.
If you want to stay with GB, then I think there is a rooted 76 somewhere around here.
Sent from my LT26i using Tapatalk 2
I think your right uk gsm rollout should be pretty soon im a Sony ambassador so they keep telling me..,
Sent from my LT26i using XDA
You don't need to wait, use the ch ftf file; I'm a happy UK Xperia s owner!

you have to flash a Prerootets System image or a prerootet kernel... take al look at the devs forum, you found everything you need - try out Advanced stock kernel and then, through the recovery, install the Doomkernel and, if you needet, the WIFI modules

Help rooting my phone.

I want to root my Galaxy S2 and have ICS or Jelly Bean or the best possible. I have been reading guides and tutorials on how to do this. I don't want anything to go wrong or brick my phone. One guide said I should get a new kernal, custom rom and a new OS to maximise the performance possible. All of this is getting very confusing for me and I don't know which direction to go. There are also two popular methods of rooting a Galaxy S2 which is using super one click or flashing an insecure kernal and then rooting the s2 using odin. I don't know which method is better but I would like to keep all the data in my apps which can be done using titanium backup. I would also like to have clockwork mod just incase anything goes wrong. The guides also said the best custom rom is by cyanagenmod. Could someone push me in the right direction and tell me what I should do and what I shouldn't.

What ROM are you on right now. Could you please attach a screenshot of the about section of your phone so that its easier to hand you the links to correct kernel? Briefly, what you need to do is to search the cf root thread by chainfire, get the cf root closest to your kernel version, and flash it to gain root access. What exactly would you like? Stock or custom rom? ICS or JB?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
I got a stock rom right now. Exactly how it was when I first got the phone. Haven't updated. What is cf root? And can't I root using super one click? I want the jelly bean if that's the best I can get without any bugs or problems.

once u root u can backup ur apps with titanium backup and then after flashin a different rom u can restore it
So should I root using super one click?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Why do I need to update to ics? Can't I just root and then flash custom rom?
What would be the difference?

My friend wants to root his phone and I was wondering if he threw ya $50 if someone could remote his computer, root, and put the best Rom for a daily driver? Last question. He will be good with WiFi tether? Cause that's the main reason he wants to be rooted...

Just make sure he doesn't go to CM10 if he wants WiFi tethering. Its still buggy as it requires only open WiFi..

[Q] Is it possible to root Xperia p with an app?

Title says it all. I had my Xperia p rooted with a custom rom but I returned to stock 6.2.A.0.400 cause that custom rom had some problems unsolved. Currently I don't have a PC and I was wondering if are there any apps that give root like z4 or something else. Thanks in advance
Happy New Year everybody!
Possible for sure, if computer can do it, an android application would also deal with it, but the problem is that it's just harder (as I know) to make such a script. It would be also awesome to have an opportunity of installing recovery for locked via app
Sent from my LT22i using xda app-developers app
Yeap. But is there an app that roots Xperia p? Because I used z4root and framaroot and they don't work... I really Need root access. Thanks for your answer mate.

No that doesn't exist, you need to use your computer for root. The good days of rooting your device with an app on gingerbread are over.
Verstuurd vanaf mijn LT22i met Tapatalk
Ask the wrong questions and you will get the wrong unswers.
"Rooting" is usually sripts/binaries using an exploit, make no difference if it's an app running them or it's done with adb.
Your ROM has no known exploits and therefore cannot be rooted, period. And it is unlikely anyone is going to make one as this ROB is buggy as hell and besides you no one in his right mind using it.
What issues you had with the ROM and why won't you use stock 6.2.A.1.100 which is pretty awesome?
And happy new year to you too
