[26/7][XXKG3] VillainROM 2.3 for SGS2 < The ROM Noonski couldn't drain the battery on
Updated to version 2.4, go to the new thread - this one's too long...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1198334

How to Flash VillainROM?
Step 1- flashing cf-root.
- If you have already flashed cf-root then move onto step 2.
First things first, check what stock rom you are on, go to menu > settings > about and look for key phrases like "KE2" or "KE4" etc this is your kernel number. Make sure this is not the number in the "baseband" line as this is your MODEM version (radio) not kernel.
Then go to this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399 and download the kernel for the same version type as you just identified, once downloaded extract from the .zip so you have the .tar file.
Download ODIN if you have not already done so, also in that thread above and extract from the zip.
Install samsung KIES from this link (for drivers) - http://www.samsung.com/uk/support/m...softwaremanual.do?page=MOBILE.SOFTWARE.MANUAL
Once you have done all this power down your phone and then power back on in download mode. To do this you need to turn the phone on by pressing volume down, home and power all at the same time. You will get a screen asking you to press volume up to confirm.
Now plug your phone into your PC and let it install the drivers.
You are now ready to open ODIN.
Go to the "PDA" box and direct it to the .tar file of the CF-ROOT kernel you downloaded then hit "START". DO NOT TICK OR UNTICK ANY BOXES LEAVE IT AS IT WAS BY DEFAULT.
Once complete the phone will reboot, you can now unplug it, you have root on a stock rom.
Step 2- How to install VillainRom
WARNING, DOING THIS YOU WILL LOSE ALL DATA (that includes apps and sms's, call logs etc etc) BACKUP OR BE PREPARED TO LOSE THEM
Download the latest VillainRom this is a .zip file DO NOT EXTRACT IT!!.
Plug your phone into your pc and place this .zip file onto the root of your internal (or external) SD card.
Once down, unmount, unplug from your PC and then turn off the phone.
Boot into ClockWorkMod recovery by powering on with volume UP, home and power held.
Go to BACKUP and run a backup
Once this is done go to "wipe data/factory reset" then do "wipe cache".
Now you need to go "Install Zip from SD" find your .zip file of VillainRom and flash.
Once complete you can reboot the phone, you will be on VillainRom.
If for some strange reason you get stuck into a boot loop (meaning its taking longer than 10 minutes to boot into the rom) you will need to hold power till the phone turns off, boot into CWM and repeat the wipe and flashing steps above.
Step 3 - Updating CF-ROOT Kernel
Now you are on VillainRom you will need to update the kernel to match the rom. At the time of writing this is the KG1 kernel (but check in IRC or on the rom post if your not sure). This time you will want to keep this as a .zip file.
First of all, install VRTweaks from http://www.villainrom.co.uk/forum/showthread.php/4570-(updated)-VillainTweaks-v1.3.1-(29-May), and install it.
Place the CF-ROOT .zip file onto your phone and then open the "CWM" app, once open go to "flash kernel" and point it to that .zip file.
The phone will reboot.
STEP 4 (OPTIONAL BUT RECOMMENDED) - UPDATE MODEM
Download the reccomended modem from the rom thread this will be a tar.md5 file DO NOT RENAME IT (it may be in a .zip, if so extract it)
Put your phone into download mode and open Odin.
Click "PHONE" and guide it to the tar.md5 file
Press Start
Phone will reboot and your done

Quadrant and some "other" ROMs
So it seems that a couple of ROM "chefs" thought it was a good idea to sneak in a script to cheat their quadrant benchmark results... Both Lite'ning ROM, and AngeloROM are giving deceiving quadrant scores.
Quadrant isn't an amazing benchmark for the SGS2, as it's not properly multi-threaded, but I think it's worth explanining what was going on here. Both of the named ROMs are using an init.d script to detect Quadrant, and mount its files to a ramdisk, meaning that IO performance is not being measured accurately. This can give the undiscerning user a very high Quadrant score (in excess of 6000 in some cases).
What does this mean? Absolutely nothing. But it's essentially a sign that the maker of that ROM does not see fit to be honest with you. Can you trust someone who would rather boost their "e-peen" by deceiving you, rather than forego the e-peen extension, and instead be honest about the performance of your ROM.
Just think... If a ROM dev is happy to hide code to cheat Quadrant scores, and deceive you in that way, in what other ways might they also be deceiving you?
And for the avoidance of doubt, VillainROM does not, and will not, make use of dodgy "cheating" methods to fool you into thinking you have higher benchmark scores than you do... It's not cool, it's not something you expect to see from a "developer", who should be someone trustworthy, given the level of trust you are giving them by installing a ROM they make.

So without further ado, VillainROM 2.3 can be downloaded from this linkhttp://www.villainrom.co.uk/forum/s...nROM-2.3-for-Samsung-Galaxy-S-II-(2.3.4-time)
If you are after a light version of the old VillainROM 2.0 by [email protected], download from http://www.multiupload.com/6OEDBEYO01
After installing, I recommend you flash the XXKG3 modem, which you can download from this link: http://www.villainrom.co.uk/forum/showthread.php/4942-ROM-VillainROM-2.3-for-Samsung-Galaxy-S-II-(2.3.4-time))

Super happy fun times
Welcome to post 5. If you are about to say "this isn't post 5 - this is post 8", then you are wrong, I'm afraid... It's actually post 5... Look, it just is...
If there is a post requiring special attention due to the fact it highlights the reasons for searching this thread before posting, then it will be drawn to attention here, in post 5 ()

Will give this a go as soon as my phone turns up from Vodafone UK...

thanks but what exactly is the differende between this and stock ROM, have you removed any stock apps, what tweaks is added and so on?
Sent from my Galaxy S2 using Tapatalk

Cheers Pulser.
While it downloads, I'll get ADB ready for when I break it ;-)
Edit: Just to point out that the break comment is based on me having a certain knack at the moment for breaking stuff, and is an IRC joke

Pulser is being afk at the moment so give me a min to boot it and post.

Thanks - quick work! But as others say, a few more details would be appreciated

I'm definitely up for flashing this but a few extra details regarding the differences between this and the latest stock.
Congrats on being the first anyway,

Alright folks. I was off eating breakfast
This ROM is XWKE2, it's rooted, and it has the stock kernel. Unless you are developing or need something else, this kernel will do you fine, as the underlying ROM is rooted
It's fully deodexed, and I've resigned all the Samsung and stock applications with a new key-set, so that it's much easier to make modifications to the apps in future. Villain Tweaks was a project of mine to "test the water" for modifying the apps in the SGS 2 ROMs. I hit issues I couldn't get around, since the pre-installed apps were signed by Samsung.
This means that I can now edit the apps on the phone to apply all sorts of tweaks and "hacks", like the ones I've done so far, but with greater scope as to which files can be modified. For example, I've got a messaging app here (Mms.apk), which should let you send 10 SMS messages together without converting it to an MMS, and allow 200 recipients of an SMS, rather than ten.
But in order for me to release such changes (which a number of people were requesting), I need to have the signing keys used for the applications. So since it's a re-signed ROM, it's nice and easy to release tweaks.
So, tl;dr?
ROM itself is rooted
XWKE2 deodexed firmware
Re-signed to permit much greater scope for tweaks
Stock "touchwiz"
No bootsound
The fun starts once people are using this, and we can have more control over the ROM itself... I'll look at some more of my "to-do" things soon enough anyway, including enabling init.d on the stock kernel, and a few other things...

Nice work!
Downloading...
Just to be sure:
Using Odin3 v.185
No re-partition, no nothing except pda, auto reboot and reset time checked?

Yes, exactly the same process as installing a kernel from Chainfire, or a stock ROM. I'll take a screenie of what it will look like, though I don't have a phone connected to mine, so it might look a little different.

Yep. Just as it should start.
Also, just to point out, you don't need to backup but it's always good to.
Just in case it dies. Which it won't. But you never know

ok nice, is the camera tweaks already included? and would it wipe the device when flashing or do the apps I've installed still be there?

Ultimate Gingerbang 0.2.1
A Community Rom
TeamSbrissenMod.net
***Welcome to Ultimate Gingerbang 0.1! This is an extension of the original froyo thread here and here.
*The op consists of several posts, in my attempt to better manage the rom going forward.
*So what is Com Rom/UGB then? Basically it was the next stage in adrynalyne's superclean roms which have been going since dl09 (and since dio1 through jt1134). Its a stripped down version of touchwiz (in this case EC09 gingerbread) with enhancements/mods/themes...basically more functionality.
Highlights: (as of 0.2.1)
*includes tsm parts: see sbrissen's thread for specific mods added
*gingerbread themed (frameworks, sys ui, settings, dialer, phone, music, browser, contacts, camera..more to come)
*deodexed
*rooted with super user
*busybox
*tweaked minifree settings
*advanced power options
*working ec09 browser downloads
*new market
*ads blocked by host file
*6th toggle added to status bar pulldown power controls (vibrate/sound)
*clean text on toggles (auto rotation to rotation, mobile data to data)
*launcher2
*appwidgetpicker (boombuler)
*pacman apk from cm included, on first market usage post wipe it will give you the option to select a few common apps rather than search the market for them
*latest gapps (including google +, and google car home instead of tw version)
*overscroll glow
*aosp weather/news, deskclock
*microbes lwp, and nexus lwp
*8 tab browser (i9000, from nameless)
*egl fix from nexus s (should fix blurry icons)
*market fingerprint for nexus s to fix apps not showing in market
*lots of tw/vzw removed (launcher, widgets, vzw apps, etc)
*crt screen off (must not turn animations all off in spare parts)
*system ui transparency enabled
*rfs kernel (optional): stable adb (wont show debugging/storage on boot with cord plugged in, but adb works), boot animation support

***SDCARD Stuff***
(This is only my opinion and may or may not help those with issues)
-i recommend properly mounting and unmounting your sdcard with each use...meaning dont just yank out the usb cord or reboot (recovery or otherwise) with the card mounted as a usb devices. Doesn't hurt anything to do this and *might* help keep your card intact.
-if you card gets borked (you see the blank sdcard/format message in android), first try and format in cwr, rather than in android or on your computer...fixed my card up, ymmv
FAQ
(will be updated as questions/issues arise as well)
Q: Who/What is TSM/TeamSbrissenMod
A: Short version: a few of from xda/irc who work on projects together and generally just hang out in irc a lot
A: Longer version: we started it as a joke (see the early @teamsbrissenmod tweets for an idea), but then bendbowden started making vanilla aosp mods and releasing under the TSM banner. In the lull between ec10 for the mez and EC01/ED01 Adrynalyne asked if a few of us wanted to team up for the next version of whatever rom he did post-superclean and TSM went from there. Its named after sbrissen, because hes ridiculously smart and talented...and deserves all the kudos you can give him.
Q: I'm on RCxx from testing...should I bother upgrading to 0.1? I don't want to wipe again!
A: I would, tsm parts has been updated and several apks changed.
Q: Why is there no voodoo?
A: since there is no source for ec09, voodoo has to be hacked into the stock kernel...its not an easy process and has yet to be done, but navenendrob is working on it.
Q: I don't like how you themed (insert app) or why did you use (insert app) instead of (insert app)!!!!!! WHY DID YOU DO THIS?!?!?!
A: Frankly you can't please everyone. Many of the theming decisions or using aosp apps instead of samsung or vice versa just came down to what we (or in theme case me) felt worked best with the rom. I doubt more than a handful of people would run the EXACT same setup (down to each individual apk) if they were given the choice. We try and accomodate people through patches as best we can.
Q: I hate ec09!!! Please tell me you will continue to be working on froyo versions!
A: Umm...well sorry ...at this time we are only planning on TW Gingerbread releases going forward...yes eco9 is buggy, but at least imo still good enough to be on (sdcard and usb debugging issues are a pita, i admit)
Q: How can I fix the fc on calendar notifications?
A: Go into calendar--settings--select default ringtone...and pick something other than the default one
Known Issues
*if you boot with usb plugged in, adb works, but debugging/usb storage wont show as available, unplug and replug ur connector
*ec09 eats sdcards
*MIUI lockscreen when plugged in will tend to run your processor at or near maximum mhz. (seems to do this on most phones)..you may choose not to use it when plugged in
*calendar fc on google cal apt ringtone notification (doesnt happen to everyone, see faq for fix)
*manage applications fc in settings
changelog *updated 7.13.11
7.13.11 V0.2.1 (patch)
*changed updater-script to fix gps permissions (credit egorzilla, more on top of things than me )
*replaced old market with new one (currently being pushed out, saves ya the wait)
7.12.11: V0.2 (patch)
*recent call log text (black on black) in dialer,
*some other black on black text
*ads blocked by host file
*browser first load header fix (it was white at first than flashes to grey, samsung added a new image, pita)
*themed email.apk (sorry for leaving it out in 1.0)
*browser downloads fixed (credit nitr8 and his nitrality app for apks and DaleV for the idea)
*crutch.apk added to support more types of file downloads
7.11.11: added patch for email (sorry for leaving it out)

Instructions
***again ec09 eats sdcards...use a backup card if you can!!!
Installing Com Rom
Method A (coming from voodoo froyo or eclair)
1. download rom with kernel (or have a gb kernel on sdcard to flash)
2. move to your sdcard
3. boot into cwr and disable voodoo (if using a cwr w/o voodoo controls, must create disable-lagfix file and reboot once before going to cwr)
4. reboot to allow conversion
5. boot back into cwr
6. wipe data/cache/davlik cache (if you dont, expect issues...and also dont bother bug reporting..we wont help you!)
7. select install from sdcard
8. select rom .zip
9. reboot
10. wait 5+ minutes for phone to boot up (it takes awhile)
11. profit (or not if it bootloops)
* odin the ec09 radio if you havent already
Method B (flashing over stock rfs gb leak)
1. download rom w/ kernel
2. move rom to sdcard
3. boot into cwr
4. wipe data/cache/davlik cache (if you dont, expect issues...and also dont bother bug reporting..we wont help you!)
5. select install from sdcard
6. select rom .zip
7. reboot
8. wait 5+ minutes for phone to boot up (it takes awhile)
9. profit (or not if it bootloops)
Method C (flashing over ext4 gb kernel)
1. download rom sans kernel
2. move rom to sdcard
3. boot into cwr
4. wipe data/cache/davlik cache (if you dont, expect issues...and also dont bother bug reporting..we wont help you!)
5. select install from sdcard
6. select rom .zip
7. reboot
8. wait 5+ minutes for phone to boot up (it takes awhile)
9. profit (or not if it bootloops)
* odin the ec09 radio is you haven't already
Also, great article on why wiping anything in cwr (data/cache/davlik) more than once is pointless: http://cvpcs.org/blog/2011-06-05/time_to_wipe_data/cache
(I would go further to say dont flash **** from people who tell you to wipe data 3X Times...but im a jerk)
***ADB!!!!
for those that don't have the Android SDK installed (or know what it is) Adrynalyne made an awesome tutorial <--- check it out!
For Reporting Issues:
(If you Do Not follow these instruction exactly, we will ignore your pleas for help!)
1) post your exact setup (version of com rom, kernel, voltage settings, any other mods you did flash)
2) did you wipe data/cache/davlik cache before flashing the rom
3) what rom/setup did you flash com rom over
4) what is your *specific* problem...not "omgz ma ****z be borked yo"...that helps no one and frankly is annoying to see...
5) ive said this 500 times already, but hey whats once more? POST AN ADB LOGCAT OF YOUR YOUR BOOTLOOP/FORCE CLOSE PROBLEMS/ETC...it aint hard
cd your adb folder
then
Code:
adb logcat > logcat.txt
-this creates a text file in your adb folder in the sdk (tools or platform-tools, w/e) post it in a pastebin and link the pastebin here or post it from dropbox or something
for the less sdk literate folks (and really im tempted to say if you dont have adb, dont flash stuff...but umm...i wont)
you can use terminal emulator on your phone to logcat (obviously not when booting to diagnose bootloops, but can help with force closes)
Code:
logcat > /sdcard/logfile.txt
-this creates a file on your sdcard...copy it to your computer and pastebin/dropbox it

[/QUOTE]*So what is Com Rom/UGB then? Basically it was the next stage in adrynalyne's superclean roms which have been going since dl09 (and since dio1 through jt1134). Its a stripped down version of touchwiz (in this case EC09 froyo)[/QUOTE]
Hmmmmmm? ECO9 FROYO?

VillainROM 3.0 for Samsung Galaxy S 2
So that old thread was long... Very long... It had good memories, but it's time to move on to a new thread, as 10k posts is just too much, and there are some more changes this time round. First off, it's as usual, a CWM flashable zip file. But, in a slight change of direction in light of Ninpo and Netarchy's Ninphetamine kernel being more complete, version 2.0.5 is now included. That is newer than the version released in the thread, but it will be updated in due course.
So for now, here's what's new in Version 3.0
- Fully deodexed
- Introduction of Ninphetamine kernel into the ROM (version 2.0.5 with BLN etc) - Note that BLN doesn't work with the stock SMS app, but Handcent is fine. I will look at ways to trigger BLN from the Messaging app later
- Install the BLN app from the market to use this
- Removal of Diginotar root certificates from the trusted store, given they are about as secure as a paper bank vault.
- All the usual stuff, although VRTweaks will be added from scratch again, since this seems a newer and better base.
- Re-addition of SIP since Samsung thinks you should be deprived of it.
Additionally, this is a way to try out the official KI3 ROM, without the bootloader being touched, thus allowing the USB jig to continue to working. To re-iterate, VR never flashes radios or bootloaders, so is safe. Stock ROMs, and other custom ROMs which are ODIN flashed, or indeed ZIPs, can and do sometimes flash these things without telling you. Just be aware - Samsung knows about the USB jig resetting the counter, and is on it...
Install procedure, and other details to come in following posts.
Contributing VRTweaks to VillainROM
Iff you want your tweak in VillainTweaks (with full credits etc) then please PM LennyUK with a description, screenshot if you have one to hand and a direct link (xda attachment, dropbox or your own server) No file hosts please.
We will add them to VRTweaks, so users can install them without having to download files to their phone. Likewise, if users find nice tweaks, let Lenny know
VillainROM Installation Instructions
To follow these instructions we presume you already have access to Clockworkmod recovery, and are able to put the zip file onto the SD card, and flash it.
If you are coming from a ROM other than VillainROM 1.2 or above, then you should carry out a full wipe. In fact, you should be carrying out a full wipe anyway, but it's not strictly 100% necessary if you are just coming from the previous version.
Coming from Another ROM
Ensure CWM recovery is available, do a CWM/nandroid backup and titanium backup, and put the zip onto the root of the internal SD.
Enter CWM, carry out a factory reset, and cache wipe, and flash the ROM via "Install zip from SD" option.
Reboot the phone into VillainROM, bearing in mind the first boot may take some time on the boot animation.
To use BLN
Ensure you are using the included Ninphetamine kernel, and install this app from the market (free, paid version with more features available)
VillainROM Download Link
You can download VillainROM 3.0 (2.3.5) from this link
Alternatively, you can download ou can download VillainROM 2.5 from this link (2.3.4 base)
IF YOU THINK THE ROM ISN'T ROOTED, INSTALL SUPERUSER FROM THE MARKET. IF YOU WANT CWM APP, GET IT FROM THE ATTACHMENTS LIST

Super happy fun times
OK, so I think it's time to explain what this is about. It's born from the idea that came about on IRC, for a way to make a theme once for a ROM, rather than have to adjust it for each incremental update for a given ROM or ROMs.
As a user, you don't need to know much - just flash this zip like a regular zip, and you'll get your theme running. But you should be able to apply themes to any device, ROM, and version of the ROM, without it causing adverse effects. That means less time spent by themers making the original theme, and less time spent modifying it constantly for new versions of ROMs.
As a themer? Well, here is the information:
Inside the zip, in the vrtheme folder, you can create a folder called "system" and "data". The former is required, the latter is not required unless you wanted to theme a data app (strongly not recommended, unless you know the app will be there on every phone)
Inside the system or data folder, create a subfolder "app", and in these, make subfolders named EXACTLY after the APK name. For example, to theme the Browser, you need a folder called "Browser.apk". It must be correctly capitalised.
Within there, place the files you require for your theme, in the relevant locations. So most PNGs will be in res/drawable-hdpi/. You can put in xml files too (those which are not in resources.arsc), if you compile them via apktool, and extract them with a zip tool.
In the vrtheme folder, as well as system and data folder, one called "raw" can exist. Within here, you can place files to be copied verbatim to the ROM (for example, modified JAR files). Note that using this may make the theme device dependent (read WILL make it device dependent)
And that's about it.
Features
Will modify APKs in a ROM, without changing signatures, and can be used on any ROM where the filenames of themed files is the same.
Should not need updated between versions of a ROM
Zipaligns all APKs before installation
Stores a backup of all files being modified in /cache/vrtheme-backup/
Requires no coding abilities or editing of files - just drag and drop
Can copy "raw" files, though at risk of not working on other devices (well, let's face it, it won't work on likely a slightly different ROM, so this feature is not recommended or encouraged)
Credits

EULA
Nothing evil or complicated - just a few little things. You should not charge for access to this code. That includes a zip containing this, or a derivative of it. So please don't sell themes using it. That's not particularly cool. If you want to use it commercially for some reason, get in touch with us.
If you spot a bug or error, and find a fix, please reply in this thread and let us know, or post the changes you made. If you're going to distribute the changed version, it is expected that you share the change made by contacting us, or posting it here.
Finally, don't be a douche - don't rip this off or call it your own, and leave all headers and comments identifying the origin of the code in place. Don't rename this to match your ROM or "team" name - it's not cool, and it's not yours to go and adjust. I chose to make this a readable "plain" script, but can easily obfuscate and encrypt it if you want to be a douche.

You can have the VR2.4 ROM odexed, tomorrow. Or deodexed, with a laggy (or non-present) stock browser tonight.

First of all, thanks for the great work!!
In the meanwhile, could you please further collaborate on the reason for your move from an odexed framework towards the fully deodexed framework?
We know that we will be missing the smooth scrolling of the browser, but what will we get on the other side?

[ROM][SAMMY-ICS 4.0.3]MJ ROM-version 1.3[XWLP7_XENLP3][16.04.2012]

Greetings!
I have decide long enough and here i am, trying to build my own ROM and share with you guys.
I am still new in creating my ROM, yet i wanna challenge myself and try to have fun with it. To be honest, it is harder than i thought with no complete tutorial out there.
I am planning to start things slowly and learning as i go along. Thus, i start with the basic, modifying stock ROM, and de-odex them. Clear all the bloatware or what i think is not necessary.
Please take note this is just a trial. If you are interested, do try out, and let me know how or where i can improve. I am noob, please don't flame me.
Current Release
MJ ROM: Trial Version 1.3 - 16.04.2012
Firmware: I9100XWLP7
CSC: XENLP3
Kernel: current LATEST Siyah Kernel v3.1rc4 (dual boot supported )
Coming Soon:
add in call recording feature
add in toggle bar - Postpone! Seems like Lidroid method will supercede my translucent status bar.will fine other method to make both thing works.
planning to switch launcher, as i am not too fond with Apex (suggestion please)
create my own logo (might take times, still figuring out)
Beats audio, anyone? (some claim it doens't work, does it? )

Bugs:
Not everything is perfect, though i expected a perfect ROM to ease everyone. However, there are some minor bug i encounter. Not a big deal.
- Keyboard not poping up at the initial setup the ownership of the phone
solution: i realise it takes time for the ROM to load up the keyboard (maybe due to language change from netherland to english - united state issue). what i do is, i just press back and forward few time, and the keyboard will initially pop up. don't worry, it just happen the very first time android setup. no more issues after that.
- Messaging app cannot use
solution: i suspect this is Apex Launcher issues. just delete the dock bar Messaging shortcut. Drag and put the new Messaging app from app drawer and you are good to go.

thanks man! btw, is it legal to use theme provide here? can i use the mod they provide here? i scare i violate the rules or whatever copyright thingy.
U can use themes, apps and other mods from developers just ask their permission first and credit them in your op.
About supersu, you need to install(push) binary for it to work. Think it's binary is a xbin file, but not sure ask in chainfire thread.
anyways good luck with your project

thanks for your hints and advise. really appreciate it.
edit: i think i found the reason on why my custom ROM is not rooted. it seems like i am using stock ROM unrooted, that's why it is not rooted. base on my research, i just have to flash the stock ROM, root it, flash kernel and old bootloader. back up, and start cooking afterward. correct me if i am wrong.
anyway, gonna try it tomorrow. used almost full day in trial and error, at least i can flash and run my first trial.

Other than that, everything should work fine.

A big hello to everyone seems to be the right words to start with.
A couple of weeks ago i've decided to say goodbye to HTC after many years and got my hands on a Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Running around with a stock version felt bad so i've started flashing custom roms within 2 hours after unboxing it. After flashing many of the custom roms i started working on a pesonal rom and started off with the DevBase by ALEXNDR and went on until i had a stable deodexed version with just those tiny changes to make my day. Now i think it's time to share the rom and find out what all of you think about it. Don`t forget i`m new to the world of Samsung and learning every single day, don`t expect high class development at first, it will get better as we roll.
Main goal of this thread and rom is to create a smooth and most of all stable rom that is friendly towards the battery, there's enought higly developed roms out there for those that seek all the extra`s for their daily driver. I will start providing flashable zips containing fixes, mods and add-ons once i get to know my way around the N4 and Samsungs way of buiding their roms.
Please read all the info posted in this thread before flashing! Make sure you know what you're doing just to be on the safe side. Before posting anything i have tested and flashed it many times but this doesn`t mean there is no risk involved in flashing my work. I'm not responsible for bricked devices or other issues you may face after flashing my work! Keep this in mind when you decide to flash anything provided in this thread.
Changelog between ALEXANDR's DevBase BOD2 and Project N4 B1.1:
- Fully Deodexed
- Added 5 way Reboot options
- pushed device overall volume a little less compared to B1.0
- Added Modded Camera
- Added Modded Telecom.apk removing ascending ringtone volume
- Cleaned the app list without loosing functionality
- Added Latest AdBlocking hosts file
- Added Memory Leak Fix ( thanks to robocik )
Note:
You'll need the latest modem and bootloader files to run this rom, if you`re running the wrong versions you`ll end up in a bootloop! The proper modem and bootloader files can be found in the download folder along with the Rom zip. I trust you all know how to use Odin in order to flash them
Changelog between ALEXANDR's DevBase BOC5 and Project N4 B1.0:
- Fully Deodexed
- Added 5 way Reboot options
- pushed device overall volume
- Cleaned the app list without loosing functionality
- Added Latest AdBlocking hosts file
- Added Memory Leak Fix ( thanks to robocik )
None as far as i know, so please share if you find one.
Always make sure you're running latest bootloader and modem before flashing this rom to prevent bootloop.
Also make sure you're running latest TWRP of CWM recovery.
Download the rom zip file and check MD5 checksum.
Copy the rom zip file to your (ext.) storage.
Reboot in to recovery and flash the rom zip file.
When flashing is done reboot your device and wait patiently untill the boot finishes ( This can take a while ).
When you're on stock before flashing this no wipe is needed for a safe flash, if you're running a different rom
or when you do run in to trouble a wipe in recovery will save your day,

Since this is based on ALEXANDR DevBase all additional options also go for this rom. Visit his thread and thank him for his hard work! Below i copy/pasted the additional features ( i know i`m lazy ) hoping he won`t mind. Please let me know if you do mind my lazyness so i can remove the text below.
Additional info that comes with this ALEXNDR.N910FXXU1BOC5 based rom:
1. Base:
- Multi CSC (list of natively supported CSC as above) (*)
- Removed KNOX (apps, agent, container, etc..)
- Rooted (SuperSU 2.46 app + binary), BusyBox 1.23.1
- Odexed (original, untouched framework & apps)
- All original features are present and works
- Able to write to extSdCard by all applications
- No visual changes (100% stock look)
- Stock kernel
- Safe De-Bloated (more info below)What does it mean and why is it called "safe"?
- ONLY apps available in stores are removed from DevBase, so you can easy (re)install any of these app if you like
- ONLY pre-installed system apps are removed, DevBase installer never touch any updated app nor app installed manually from store
Thus, the following conclusions can be drawn:
1. If you install my DevBase directly over stock ROM without performing "Wipe data" - in most cases almost all these apps will remain untouched, because almost all apps have been updated already (stored on /data). But then you will be able to remove any useless app using the "Application manager", like any other app. Removed manually app will not appear again until you use my DevBase while updating.
2. If you perform "Wipe data" while installing my DevBase - then all apps listed below will be removed. If you would like to use any of these apps - just install it manually from appropriate store. Installed manually app will not be removed during the next DevBase update.
Removed apps list:
Chrome
Drive
Dropbox
Evernote
Facebook
FB Messenger
FB Pages Manager
Flipboard
Google+ / Photos
Hangouts
Instagram
PEN.UP
Play Books
Play Games
Play Movies
Play Music
Play Newsstand
Smart Remote
WhatsApp
2. Init.d Support (*):
- Init.d support without need of use custom kernel (details)
3. CscFeature MOD (*) (enabled some built-in, hidden features):
- Added shutter sound menu in Camera
- Sending/receiving MMS without data on
- Added "Exit Internet" option to stock browser
- Added call button in Phone Logs
- Added "Call/Message block" option in Settings
- Added symbols as secondary keys in Samsung keyboard
- Call Recording (manual control, added "Record" button)
(*) - these options can be controlled by editing options.prop file (you can find such file in ZIP's root directory). Just place modified options.prop file (use e.g. Notepad++ to edit) in the root directory of internal emulated scdard (/data/media/0) or extSdCard (recommended if you plan to format internal emulated sdcard) and then start the installation.
Footnote:
After being around in the HTC corners of XDA it`s very nice to find out how kind the developers are within the Note 4 section of our beloved forums! Didn`t expect to meet so many nice people after having my share of "*****fights" in the HTC section. I do hope to make some new friends on this side, and will never forget the few friends that sticked with me in the HTC section.

If only I could, HTC features all hang on HTC Framework and Launcher so I don't think we've got much chance of porting it to the Note 4.

I will as soon as I update the rom, still hoping to get some feedback to find out if the rom is also stable and smooth for others.
Thanks for your great job!
Could you please add volume buttons skip tracks function?
I think that would be amazing, nobody did it until now and it's something very useful.
Cheers.

Thanks for your feedback, i`m glad it worked out for you.
Currently uploading the latest BOD2 based version, guess i should have waited one day before going public. If Samsung stays away from another update in the near future i will find some time to start working on flashable MOD zips.

[ROM][ZIP] Rwilco12's Mostly Stock OG1 v1.2 (Updated 10/31/15)

Hey Everyone!
It's been a long time coming and is still a work in progress (my ROM's always are, I keep finding something new I want and add it) but here it is! Rwilco12's Mostly Stock OG1.
As you all know I like a mostly stock look and feel but I like to tweak things a bit to get the performance and enhancements that I want out of my ROM. When I build the ROM I build it for my use and my use alone. Then I share it with everyone in the hopes that someone else out there will enjoy it as much as I do. I am always open to other ideas but I may or may not incorporate them in to my ROM depending on time and whether or not I actually like it.

Prerequisites:
You MUST be on a Lollipop bootloader in order for this ROM to work. I recommend flashing the OG1 Stock TAR and then Philz Recovery through Odin prior to flashing the ROM.
Directions:
- Boot to your custom recovery (recommended recovery is Philz Touch v6.41.6).
- Wipe Cache.
- Wipe Dalvik Cache.
- Wipe System and Data (Under "Wipe Data/Factory Reset" and then "Clean to Install a New ROM" in Philz Touch).
- Flash ROM!
- Enjoy!

Now before you guys tell me how bad this ROM is, please note that I am working on it and have a LOT more planned for it. I started the project and ran out of time to get everything I wanted into it. Be ready for more fun stuff!
Great to see this finally drop. Can't wait to try it. Thanks a lot for this.

Sorry! I forgot to put the big disclaimer in the flash process. I've added this line to the OP. "*Please remember that Lollipop and Deodexed ROM's don't like to play nice with each other and require some time to get acquainted before the ROM will boot. It is not uncommon for the first boot to take between 10 and 20 minutes!"
1. There is a problem Philz Touch v6.41.6 on G900P (build version OG1 )
when flash Philz Touch v6.41.6 with ODIN. Error occurs (Fail)
So I Used TWRP
2. There is a problem when I use APP Associated with Root (ex. root explorer )
phone become freeze, APP Goes Down
3. I can show SuperSU. but rootchecker show to me that this phone have not root access
this is Korea and I am not goot at English
I used TWRP To Flash This Rom. It Worked. Waited AFew Minutes On The Boot Animation. Then Screen Turns Black. I Take Out The Battery Then Back In. Then It Installs Android Updating. Then Setup Home Screen All Well

Thank you so much for this! Can't wait to give it a spin tonight. Is there a way to revert the soft buttons back to stock function within the ROM, or would it be too much trouble to create/upload a zip that does that? Just a preference of mine, no big deal if you can't.
This sounds awesome! I'm quite partial to the normal button behavior, though. Is there any way to change it back?

I'll have to see what I can do.
After having issues getting the rom to boot the first time through Philz. I went through the wiping process again and installed the rom. The second time, I was able to get the rom to boot. When rebooting in recovery and it ask you to apply the root, I selected "no" the second attempt and it worked. Rom went through boot screen, hit the black screen, pulled battery, rebooted and then got the optimizing apps. Hope this helps anyone having issues. Thanks again, cant wait to give this a go!
Finally a ROM that runs nice and smooth without so much bloat. Great work! The ONLY thing I am wondering is how to remove the bootscreen sound? It's the only thing I don't like. Thanks for the awesome work.

Lol I was super proud of that boot sound! The original Terminator intro. But since you said lots of other nice things, I'll forgive your lack of taste and tell you how to fix it.
To remove it go to system/media/audio and delete PowerOn.ogg from there and the SPR and XAS folders.
I love the boot animation. The rom runs very smooth and fast. Waiting for the updater date. Forces close when i try to open itt. I would love 3minit battery mod on This rom. Wish someone can make a flashable zip for the ones that want it. I know i do

Haha thanks man. I actually do like the sound of it but I just think it lasts a bit too long. Appreciate it and loving this ROM so far. Coming off of using MOAR for a long time but it lagged my phone so badly and drained my battery. Kind of forgot how fast this phone can be!

I'm working on the next ROM build and plan on having it up soon. Nothing ground breaking but a few more goodies.
EDIT: Speaking of the Updater, I may have the auto flash issue from the NE5 build resolved...
