[Q] Telstra Touch Pro 2 + CherryPie v3 Signal problems - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Android General

Hi all. I am using the CherryPie v3 version of Android on my Telstra HTC Touch Pro 2 - using a Vodafone prepaid simcard, and F22's Latest Rootfs (Apr 19th, 2011) Highlandsun's RIL Support Patches Merged.
Every now and then I completely loose cell signal - I have to turn the airplane mode on and off and then its ok again. Any ideas as to why?

Probably using the old RIL. There's a new one that's being tested, why didn't you post this question in the build thread...??? XDAndroid is working hard to implement all of the new changes, but there's a ton. I don't think other builds can incorporate the fixes until we do... At least not easily.

The rate of change has been pretty drastic. I can't even keep my own build up to date at the moment.

[Q] Emergency Call Only Syndrome

Received my SGS2 on 29th June and ever since it start having emergency call syndrome (out of blue not receiving any network signal).only after reset, it regain signal and same story goes on till date.
To overcome this prob,i tried these:
- factory reset 3 times
- manually choose telco/network carrier
- update/flash firmware (stock XWKF1 -> XWKF3)
so for these only reduce problem's rate to occur.PLease, help anyone?
Is your sim card active ?
Hi
I have the same problem as yours (i thought i am the only one having this)...out of the blue the phone changes to the emergency calls Only status....
it is very annoying specially when you are expecting an important phone call and you discover that the phone cannot receive calls
it became a habit of mine to keep checking my phone every once and a while, and when spotted i restart my phone and this brings the phone back to normal (Normal for a day or two of course).
Can anybody help with this?
SGS2 GT-I9100, Android: 2.3.3, Build: JHKG2
First of all I would download a newer firmware. If that doesn't fix it you should probably just return it to Samsung for replacement/repair.
Actually i have flashed this Israeli ROM (it is an Orange official but leaked ROM) about a month or so and it supports Arabic, English & Russian (exactly what i need) that i have no complains about so far except this emergency Calls issue and i am not so fund of rooting etc so i don't know where i can find another ROM (official not cooked ) that have the same languages supported.

What is your signal strength when it changes to emergency only? Mine does that during very weak signal, I found it's because it can only receive GPRS singal which is from another carrier when my own (HSPA) can't establish connection.

frankly i didn't check or notice such thing, but the moment i installed my latest ROM (GB/JHKG2) i have noticed that the signal strength is very week especially indoors.
thinking off and analyzing this situation i have a confident opinion that the problem i am facing is related to the ROM i am using (GB/JHKG2).
i am thinking of flashing a different Kernel to this ROM and see what will happen

When you installed a different rom did you flash back to your original telcos baseband? This makes an enormous difference to signal strength.

[Q] VERY Intermittent Service (3G HSDPA etc)

Hi,
I have a SE Xperia X10i that I purchased the other week which I had unlocked via the SE servers in a phone shop as I wanted to explore the full potential of this phone. Now it is second hand so bear this in mind....
It was originally locked to the Three network in the UK, I was on O2.
The original phone had 2.1 Android on it.
After having it unlocked I rooted the phone and also installed xRecovery version 3 and then installed CM7-ZMOD CYANOGENMOD 7 V3 from 19/08/2011 which is Android 2.3 and also Baseband .71.. I love this ROM thanks to zdzihu for producing this.
I have a problem with my network service.. It drops in and out all the time.. sometimes and can have a full signal at one location and return to that location 2 hours later and get the dreaded (No Service).. Also if I go into searching networks.. it also says no network providers can be found.. even when I have a signal!!!!
I jave tried the SIM in another phone LG and it works fine at that location. I have also tried another SIM, 02 in the phone and I get the same network drop out behaviour.. I go into Bristol every day.. quite a klarge city in the UK and I am sure that the coverage is there.. well actually I know it's there..
Now I have I got a Baseband problem or a phone hardware problem?
Anyone that could help I would be grateful of assistance.
Many Thanks.
Anyone??
Okay as I didn't get a reply to the original post I shall try a different tact....
As I am getting very intermittent phone signals (GPRS/3G) etc and the WiFi and GPS is okay would it be possible to downgrade the BaseBand version as I assume that this is what drives the functionality of 2G and 3G signals?
I am currently on the following:
Model X10i
Android Version: 2.3.5
Baseband Version: 2.1.71
Kernel Version: 2.6.29-zdzihu-19082011
Mod Ver: ZMOD
Build Number: CM7-ZDZIHU-MOD.
I know the Basebands are location dependent, well some of them. I live in the South West of the UK if it's important
Many Thanks
Paul
You could try switching to another rom, who knows, or maybe switching to another sim card

Yeah I have tried 2 other sims from different operators and also about 5 different ROMS.. (Wolf, Ultima, TEAM etc) No change... I just wondered what the process was to try a different BB.. (lower version).. If not I may have a HW problem..
Thanks for the response.

Try downgrading to 2.1 with baseband .67/.54 and see if that resolves your issue. If not, then it may indeed be a hardware fault.

Travelling to Italy w/ CM9 Photon

I live in the US (on Sprint) and am going to Italy in a few weeks and would like to be able to use my phone over there. I'm running the latest Joker-CM9 (0.7) build.
Theoretically, I should be able to pick up an Italian SIM card over there and the phone should work... but I know there are some known GSM-issues with CM9 and even a GSM-fix available. Up until now, I haven't been paying all that much attention to issues with GSM as it hasn't affected me.
So my questions are:
What do I need to do to switch the phone from CDMA to GSM?
I assume I'll need to do the opposite to go back to CDMA upon returning?
Does anyone have any experience with using CM9 in Italy, specifically? If so, what carrier do you recommend and do you have any tips?
Is Google Voice the best way to go for managing international calling / rates / etc?
Anything else you can think of? Better ideas?
As always, I'll be doing nandroid backups before I try anything...
Thanks for the help!

I picked up a TIM sim card in Turin,a few weeks back. It worked like a champ ,I think I was running Peetr 2.3.5 though.I have tried also CM 7.2,jokers skinny,Looki, and Rocko overseas, with all of them switching networks fine.
don't use CM 9 refuse to lose my camcorder: )
But if you on blur /deblur rom ,the mobile networks setting has toggle options.
If your on AOSP just type
*#*#4636#*#* to change to gsm.
Hope this helps...

Handsfree Bluetooth, no mobile signal level information, S2 could do it why not S3?

This is probably a long shot but does anybody know if the S3 can provide the current Network Name and Mobile Signal Level information over Bluetooth for car radio handsfree?
I connect my phone to my Ford radio via Bluetooth (Normal Handsfree not Remote Sim) and my old S2 would constantly display the Network Name i.e. Vodafone UK and the current mobile signal on the display, but the S3 will not.
This is very handy as you are able to check that you have a current mobile signal by glancing at the car radio screen instead of unlocking and looking at the phone.
The S3 will still allow the car radio to read its phonebook/missed calls etc but I would really like the signal strength to display.
My phone is rooted and I am currently running the latest Omega rom XXBLG1 with modem DXLF3.
I have tried a number of different Modems and Kernels with no joy.
It seems silly that the new S3 is not able to do what the S2 was able to.
Is this some kind of Bluetooth profile or something?
Would it be controlled by the Modem or Kernel?
Any help gratefully received.
Anybody?

You need new firmware for your car.
You can download it from here.
ford-mobile-connectivity.com/downloadsUpdates
It gives you full instructions and took about 20 mins to upload. It failed the first time( stuck on updating for about 30 mins).I powered down and started it again and it updated.
I now have signal level indication and network provider. The phonebook also loads a lot faster. I have a G300 running Android ICS

Cheers beerbellybilll999, I really appreciate you sending me this tip!
I was having to replace the Bluetooth config files every time I flashed a new custom rom with ones that I extracted from an old stock rom to get the network operator and signal strength to display.
Updated my radio as you explained and now it works on new custom roms with their existing Bluetooth config files!!! :good:
My radio must have been out of date for the newer Bluetooth config.
(and yes the phone book now loads a lot faster!)
Thanks again!!

[Q] Question about Unofficial AOKP and Global Travel

Hey all, my first post here. I just ordered my DNA, it's coming pre-rooted and S-OFF. I want to flash the Unofficial AOKP 4.2.2 port, but heard some rumors about GSM not working. I'm a Verizon customer, but I'm travelling to Germany for a few weeks soon. Do I need to flash the GSM patch I read about, or will that mess up my Verizon connection? Thanks in advance!
The ROM I want to flash: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2270257
And the GSM patch: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219979 (second post)

Flash the gsm patch when you leave, dirty flash the ROM when you get back for Verizon service.

If you are using a local SIM then yeah, need the patches with all the right information for the carrier you are using, better even to get settings from the carrier directly when you buy your SIM. Some places will do that for you. However, I get poor signal and battery globally on non-stock ROMs though.
If you use the Verizon global plan like me then stay stock rooted. I get better performance out of mine that way. Main reasons for me, battery lasts longer and I get better/faster signal.
Global Radios work great though, better than my Fireball (Incredible 4G). Currently I am in Belgium and have minimal signal but it's way out in the country east of Genk. I had great signal in Dusseldorf, Aachen and other parts of western Germany last week though. Works well all over Netherlands too. Only issues were in France this weekend when it took over an hour to get a data signal but after a reboot it worked fine.
