Great alternative folio style case for the Asus Transformer - Eee Pad Transformer Accessories

Just got my Transformer today and went to Staples to see what sort of cases they had available. Anyway, long story short, I came across this folio/zip up case...
http://www.staples.com/SOLO-Studio-Collection-iPad-eReader-Jacket-Brown-9.7/product_912505
It's listed for the ipad/kindle dx, but it ended up fitting great. There are some downsides to it which I will list below, but all in all it's a great alternative case with the limited selection available.
Pros:
- Very well padded case
- Nice design, very simple
- Holds the transformer in place well
- Soft interior which shouldn't scratch the screen at all
- Zips up for extra protection/reinsurance
- Can charge the Transformer while in the case
Cons:
- Covers up the top volume rocker slightly
- Covers up the power button fully
I got it for $25 in-store, online it's a little bit more. If you could deal with those two cons, it's a fine case.
If you have any questions, just ask.

No problem. I know right now the only options for Asus transformer cases are the overpriced official one or the one's from Hong Kong, so I figure this case is worth it for those looking for something else.

thanks for the info, i'm looking for a portfolio type case and i think ill drop by staples and give this a look.

Thanks for posting this. I am also looking for a Portfolio style case. I like that the two corners on one of the side are static and not elastic. The price point is high though, that is about what I'd expect to pay for something made specifically for the Transformer ideally. I might have to bite though depending on how long I can hold out for my ideal case.

No problem. The fit is great actually, it's just some rockers are slightly covered up. You can still power it on while in the folio, you just can't see the button, but it's not difficult to press down. I don't think the official Asus Sleeve is worth $40 honestly, nor do a lot of people. There is also an Asus folio on ebay for around $18, but it's shipped from Hong Kong.

Just picked one up today thanks to your post. I like it and look forward to using it alot!

What I've been looking for.
Thanks for the infos. Wil head to Staples tomorrow.

just got my tf yesterday...........picked up this case today!

You're welcome. Post up how your opinions on the case when you get it!

wow this case looks luxurious and awesome. can it prop the TF up?

I like the portfolio to protect it as I'm holding it, but is there a portfolio with room for cords/chargers/etc? I thought maybe I'd buy a portfolio for protection while using it AND a bag for travel but that seems redundant....

Some more pics
Got mine today. It's pretty much perfect.
Like OP said, there are two static corners, if you place the corner of the TF with the power button and volume rocker there, you may potentially trigger the power button accidentally though very unlikely. But if you rotate it 180 degrees and place the power button corner on the top right with the two elastic bands (I just use one band and leave the other one down), then the way the band wrap around even if it goes over the power or volume button, it doesn't wrap around tight enough to trigger it.
I read lots of PDFs with the TF in portrait mode sitting on the Arkon stand, so I need a case that I can take the TF in and out of easily. This Solo case is secure but also at the same time easy to take out.
When you use it in the case, no screen real estate is covered.
It's very well build, both covers are well padded with very hard "card board- like" (for the sake of lack of a better word), ok how about titanium plate-like material, so you can confidently place the TF in your bag with other hard, sharp objects around.

Nah. You can rig it to stay propped up with the right angle, but it's not meant for it and probably won't stay in that position for long.

Kindle DX Cases for GTablet

Someone posted in the huge @ss thread that they thought the Kindle DX was about the same size as the GTablet.
I went ahead and ordered this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Kindle-DX-Leath...&otn=4&po=LVI&ps=63&clkid=5004332251969071237
I'm happy with it so far, the DX is about half and inch wider, height is okay, so it can slide around a bit. I put some stick on velcro on the case and on the GTab, it isn't going anywhere now. I think I'm going to have to use superglue for the velcro on the case though, it's felt lined so it won't stick on for long. The only thing is the top elastic band is close to the power button, maybe Roebeet's electrical tape solution is in order.
UPDATE: Oh, well my fake pleather case has ding in the edge now. Maybe I need to get some of that liquid leather. ;P Happy with the sizing, just need to find something more durable. Maybe I'll use some of that new fangled electrical tape I hear is the new duct tape.
Electrical tape is the new duct tape:

I need to do something like that, was thinking of a little piece of sticky backed foam, like 1/4 ince or so, think I have some perfect for that around here somewhere.
Hitting that power button is way to easy to do, need to mod the physical keys on the side somehow also, lol.
I found an iPad case on amazon for $14.95 that has good potential. go to amazon and search for "Acase Leather Flip Book Jacket/folio for Apple Ipad 3g Tablet/wifi Model 16gb, 32gb, 64gb (Black)" in Electroincs.

Mike, I'd be careful. I've looked at several ipad cases but the gtab is taller and not as wide as the ipad. Most I've seen dont fit unless it's a universal case.

I purchased a Solo Classic iPad/eReader portfolio case from Staples that was around $30.00. The downside is that the power button is covered by one of the soft cloth corner holders, but other than that it has worked fine.

I purchased form fitting leather case for kindle DX from ebay . The G tablet fit amazingly well in it. The only problem is that the upper left strap is blocking the charger plug .
Looks good!! Maybe a hole punch can make your life easier.

The band was tighter when I first got it (infact it was so tight that it keep randomly turn on my tablet). After a few days it loosen up so the problem resolve itself. I carry it around ,always rushing to class and it feel pretty secure imo.

Yeah, it's kind of pricey but if you can afford it I totally understand getting a nice one. It's something you'll be holding for hours and hours. And I'd rather cover a really cool tablet with nice leather than cheaper plastic.
I don't think I can afford this one but I will be looking for a nice leather one. I have good leather on my Nook Simple Touch and love it.

They are very nice, very good quality leather, very good craftsmanship. Hand made after you order so allow an extra day. They might do custom tooling for you as well if you ask.
(tried to quote dkb218, but due to a link within the quote I cant do that yet!)
or you can go on ebay and buy a nice leather folio case from hong kong for ~$8...
...and it won't be hand-made in Santa Rosa, California, and won't be nearly as nice...
But, yeah, I can't afford one of those either.
Just buying 2 Nooks for xmas gifts and reeling from the intial cost. It isn't in my budget this year. But I really like them. I will hang onto the link for a possible Birthday or an xmas gift for next year..
Thanks.. I looked at the ones at B&N when I picked up the nooks and did not like them at all. Except for black, all the color ones were like neon colors which is not my taste, and made them look cheap.. Black just looked blahhh.. I like a darker deeper richer color as these leather ones seem to have.
One Note. I noted the B&N covers had holes in the cover for air.. I would imagine not a need unless you like to close the cover and leave it on. With all the cardboard & wool & leather on these covers, I don't think the air holes are there.

What!? But then your Nook might suffocate!
(Why would they have airholes?)
Also, I wish I never looked at this thread, since those are really nice covers at Oberon design.
I got the Medici Nook Color cover in brown from OberonDesign. Worth every penny!
I got the same in purple!!
So, I just received my Oberon NT cover that I ordered a little less than two weeks ago - AFTER the shipping cutoff date that was on the site. They totally shipped before Christmas, and not way after Pretty impressive. I got paisley in green, and it's a bit darker than on the site (which is good, it's not garish at all).
They're really, really, really nice covers - not just the leather, but the fit is an exact match. The straps that hold in the device are exactly fitted, they are designed to not cover buttons or the wifi area, there is storage space in the case for papers, the cover folds back nice. About the only thing missing is a way to prop the cover up for viewing (the only thing the Kindle Fire version had). This is one of those things that, after the device it is designed for dies and it doesn't fit any similar device, is going to get converted into a sketchbook/notebook cover.
very nice wood/book covers for nook devices
There's an outfit in Minnesota that does a very nice wood/book cover for a bunch of things.
The nook color/tab cover is 40 bucks, so for both of you who aren't returning your devices to BN by Dec 26 - or who want to see if they make a case for the device you're replacing it with - check 'em out.

There are 3 heavy leather straps that fit snuggly - two larger ones at the bottom and one slightly smaller with a bit more give at the top left corner. You slide the nook into the bottom two, pull the third leather strap a tiny bit, fit the nook in there, then stretch the top right elastic over the top right corner. It's actually really snug in there, but doesn't require much pushing/pulling. I was expecting it to be less precise, more stretching etc. It's easy to take in and put in, and doesn't move at all in the cover. I have no idea how they make them by hand with this much precision - I guess test it on an actual device on every cover. Anyway, nice work, and the smell & look inspires me to pick it up for reading (versus games), which is half the goal of a cover imo for the easily distracted (me!).

I was going to get that, but when I saw that the buttons were covered, that was my stopping point. I don't see why they couldn't put provisions in for the buttons. Plus, the price was a bit much.
Hi again. Yup...the buttons are indeed covered, but have you noticed the +/- signs for the volume? I guess on the other side there must be a "O" for the power sign.
The question stands though, could we click on the buttons easily through the plastic cover?
Giz
I have the Tasume. The button's aren't as easy to hit as when out of the case, but it isn't bad. The power buttion isn't covered by the case as it's on the side you slide it into the case. The stand up in any direction feature is really slick imho, and the reason I bought it.
There is no hole for the mic. I didn't care as a I have yet to use it and I figure some scissors or a lighter and a needle can fix that easily enough.
The major problem I have with it is that it is smooth and therefore a little slippery. A slippery case half defeats the purpose of a case. It does have a little bump on the back from the flap the holds the device in and I've almost trained myself to automatically hold it by the bump, so that's not as big a deal as it was when I got it, but still hardly ideal.

I have this case. I had looked for a case that would also hold the tablet in portrait and landscape, but at the time, there was not much to choose from.
My main interest would be for landscape to watch movies. In portrait, I am usually reading or using a browser so holding it is fine.
I found that if I move the elastic strap into a position it really should not go, the case works perfectly and supports landscape at almost any angle.
Not sure how long the elastic will hold out, but after 2 months it seems to holding up fine so far.

There doesn't appear to be any cutout, from the picture, so unless these are amazingly thin (which would make them somewhat useless for protection), I don't think they'll work with the dock.
But if they're easy to remove and put back on, they'd be suitable to use when the TP is out of the dock.
Has anyone ordered one of these? Just worry 'bout the quality and fit.
I wonder if they protect enough for a fall, has anyone tried this product?
I would actually like to know how is the fit with the prime, i think with such a big skin the long bezel sides won't be well adjusted to the Prime and might be too loose.
Found them in Amazon Germany, but no reviews yet :/

No. Based on the images of the green-colored case on Minisuit's site it's obvious that the TPU is too thick to fit into the dock. This being the case, I would have preferred that they fully cover the 'lock-in' slots on either side of the power connector, so they don't fill up with dust.
It seems like Minisuit had some engineer design it who didn't know what all the holes where for. BUT I'll stop complaining. A silicone case for $7 (shipping included) is great!

It is kind of remarkable that a company would go to the trouble of manufacturing these, but NOT bother to even see what the ports and opening actually do, to intelligently decide whether or not they need a cut-out?!?
Sheesh.

These appear to be the exact same skins just in a different color, which means that the center of the back is likely to be a little bit loose, just like with the black cases.
Mine shipped today, estimated arrival of 5/8. I'll keep ya posted.

It definitely feels like the same case, however this new one I got seems to fit a little better at the back, with less sag. I'm not sure if it was just a manufacturing difference or what. This case still has the same flimsy feel around the bezel.
My suggestion is to keep looking for another thin silicone case, if you want to give this one a shot it might be worth the 8 bucks though. I'm leaving this minisuit one one for now vs the other one I got off ebay.
Still in the market for a thin non-leather silicone type case. If anyone has seen the HP branded case for the Touchpad, that would be a near perfect case imo, with a magnetic closing mechanism or something.
Edit: After a day or so of use with the minisuit case, I feel like it is basically as good as this skin type case can get without a major overhaul. The back isn't sagging like the original one from ebay did, however the edges are still could be a little tighter (This is where the redesign would come in,) but overall its pretty good. I'm still interested in a slightly thicker version of this, it still doesn't add much protection.
For those interested, a company, BobJ Gear, is coming out soon with a very nice, silicone case for the Transformer Prime.
He's already made cases for the Toshiba Thrive, which gets rave reviews on Amazon, where they are sold.
I was lucky enough to receive one of his prototypes.
This is a tight fitting case, made from food grade silicone, very thick to provide excellent protection! Access to all ports are available. One of the photos below shows you a comparison between the cases soon to be released by BobJ Gear (shown in purple) and the case discussed earlier in this thread (the green case, on top). You'll see there's a noticeable difference in the thickness of the case, and the amount of silicone used to make the case.
This adds a little bit of weight, but provides great protection for the Transformer Prime! Case will also work for the T300, and he's planning to release a case for the T700 down the road!
These should be available end of this month.

Cooler Master TF300 Folio Cover Overview (56k warned!)

Hi all, wouldn't normally post a review of something like this, but I think this is a particularly nice case for the TF300 (tablet only).
Cooler Master are a great manufacturer of mainly PC parts, and when I noticed this on a non-english language site in a review it got me interested.
After a bit of googling, I found it on the Cooler Master Mobile EU site, and it was priced at a whopping €39.99 with €10 delivery! (it worked out at about £45).
Anyway, its available in Silver and Blue (but the blue looks black to me) and I went for the silver.
It is very much like an Apple (boo, hiss) smart cover except that there is no automatic sleep with the TF300. It has a strong magnetic closing, and I would be confident it wouldn't flap open in my bag. It doesn't add too much bulk to the tablet, and feels nice and sturdy. The flap cover feels like it will last a while, and it lets you place it in a couple of useful positions.
With the cover in place and closed, for whatever reason it feels great. I would seriously just walk around with the tablet in the case because of how nice it feels to hold. Really nice and tactile feel with the textured fibre finish, and soft touch plastic.
It is tablet only, but it pops out easy enough to attach to the dock.
I've attached some pics (sorry about quality, light wasn't great in my room), which show off the really nice finish and the carbon fibre texture of this. It is definitely a premium product, and I am happy to use this day to day.

I saw this out looks really good. I might entertain something like this. I have a cheap case from eBay I my tablet now.

Oh my god it's beautiful! Too bad it's very expensive for me. I would be way too expensive, with shipping to Turkey. Thanks for the review
Nice case

It's nice to see some cases for the tablet that are geared to non-dock users.
That is a gorgeous case.
You can order one from the Cooler Master website and ship to the US...but it'll cost you about $125 USD

the CS of Cooler Master EU store is quite bad, sent email to them on friday but no reply until today, 3-4 days...acceptable? i dun think so
The item number for the silver and blue covers are:
C-AT3F-CTTF-BB (Dark Blue)
C-AT3F-CTTF-SS (Silver White)
With these I was able to find a local retailer for about €40 Euro or $53 USD with free shipping
Wow. That looks good. The problem is you will need to take it out of the case in order to dock it on the keyboard wouldn't you. Or is there some way to do that without removing it all?

Good question...I have the same problem...

I'm pretty sure this case isn't dock compatible and will need to be removed in order to attach the dock.

So am I. The annoying thing is that it easy to achieve with right shape/size cut out along the bottom (hinged) edge. I know because I took one of these from Amazon and cut it out with a craft knife. Not too bad as you can see from my review at that link, but still a bit more bulky and not as pretty as this one. I am not sure if you could do the cut out with this case, but I would not want to at £45, as opposed to the less than £10 I spent

Absolutely. This case is definitely not inexpensive. Still, it is one of the best looking I've seen for our tablet.

Actually having looked at the pictures on the Master Cooler website I wonder whether it may be usable with a dock. It appears that the bottom hinge of the front flap starts a a little way up the back rather than right at the bottom. Depending upon how far up it may be possible to still slip the dock on without removing the case. It only needs about 13mm or so from my experience with the cut out on my other case.
Could I ask the OP or anybody else to have a look please and see how far up the hinge does start. Or even better if they have a keyboard dock does it enable it to be used without removing the case??? If so I think I see some more money being spent!
Hmmm... if you don't get an answer in here you can always write the manufacturer.:good:

I just tired it and its doable but requites a bit of wiggling.
The back of the dock is a bit hard to press in between the tablet and the cover but it can be done.
