[q] sgs2 vs sgs grey comparasion - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
Can please somebody test for me if have similar issue as me...
I noticed that the grey on SGS2 suffers a lot in quality... more visible on reduced light.
I did create a file in Photoshop with fixed grey value.. as you can see from the screenshot attached sgs2 goes more magenta instead of grey+ plus there is a lot of noise too around this value R 100 G 100 B 100
As far as i know the grey is the most difficult color to display because needs to use all 3 leds in the same time...
Anyhow pls let me know if u also have distorted results as me!
Thank you

Yeah, my icons definitely look darker and has a redder tint to them side by side with the SGS. I've been informed that it has to do with Gingerbread as well, about how Gingerbread hosed up the colors.

I have exactly the same problem. All greys look pink / magenta. I am right now trying to replace my unit because of it.

Why replace it? It's not a fault with the phone. Your next unit will be exactly the same.

Mine looks grey. No pink tint

Except it isn't, as I don't suffer from it at all regardless of the brightness and background effect.

same here: no pink/magenta on the testpic. looks exactly the same as with my computer monitor.

that is very sad news, seems i need to change my device....

Carnt open that file ..
How do i test?.

the file test it is in a zip file, you need winzip or winrar to extract the file, after that you can copy to your device and view it...
Also, i made the test on another sgs2 device and they grey is as is supposed to be...
Do we think is a software or hardware problem this is the question?

I hate to say it but I suspect it's a hardware fault with some individual panels, although whether Samsung would view it as a fault is another matter. These screens are incredibly difficult to make and almost impossible to make every one identically, so it's inevitable some will be less than perfect even if that imperfection is only noticeable in certain circumstances (a grey screen in this case). There is another thread on here with someone having a yellowish hue line down the left of their screen when the screen is a certain colour -- another example of a similar issue.
Found it. Check the post out.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13861159&postcount=12

if that is the case, a lot of devices will go back... first sgs software was horrible, now sgs2 hardware? damn it samgung u`ve done it again!

Yep, nothing wrong with mine either using that greyscale test image.
Imagine its a bad batch of SGS2's out there somewhere.

Mine is grey, like the SGS pic in the Op I know what teh pink looks like as my Desire AMOLED version was pinked

Those with clean gray, can you please post what firmware/baseband version are u using?

Yellow tint quick fix

For everyone experiencing the yellow tint issue who either don't want to or can't service their handset for whatever reason, try this as a temporary measure. Works for me.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.yuki.ochi.privacyfilter.free
The yellow tint doesn't bother me enough to want to send it in but the tint sometimes becomes distracting enough to irritate me. Especially so when reading off the browser or an ebook reader. This app allows me to apply a filter to the screen and I've managed to adjust the color to a point where the tint becomes barely visible. The link is to the free version but there's an ad free version as well. Just play with the settings and see what works for you. I'd expect everyone experiencing the issue to require different settings to mask the imperfections.
Hope this helps some of you out there.

The .73 firmware should fix the screen color temperature issue. They made it less warm in terms of color.
Yup. I saw your mention on the other thread but I'm already on. 73 and it's still yellow. Good to know that Sony's taking measures though.

Actually, I am noticing the yellow tint since I installed .73..
What regiion .73 do you have?
One of trickes I use that my friend here told me is massaging that part of the screen and yellow tint goes away. I have found this to be temporary but works better than the rest.

Yeah, I just updated mine to .73 too, color still looks the same. Don't see a difference in temp. It was from Asia's firmware note. Anyone tried the SG? I'm on US firmware, so nothing from here. I do see a much better response on the buttons though. Mine had a little lag before, but now it's instant.

So, I think you guys are much more lucky than me. I am in Viet Nam, and I bought XPS in Hong Kong. Now I saw yellow tints but can't go to Hong Kong to change it nor I think Sony Viet Nam would repair it for me. That's bored of such a big company like Sony. It's their fault of manufacture and lot of people have the same issue, they should replace or repair it with global warranty not only specific region though

Hi. I think screen shots won't be necessary as my settings are pretty straightforward. Under "color", I set all 3 bars close to the left so I get a dark gray. For "alpha", my bar is on the left - somewhere between a third or a quarter of the way. FYI, I keep the filter on all the time. My (system) screen brightness is set to about 77 when I'm outdoors.
Do play around with the levels till you're satisfied though. I don't think a one-size-fits-all configuration is possible.

A pic of the problem will help a long way in understanding the issue.
i cant screenshot it.
other camera phone could see it.
its very thin and its there.
black thin line. 1Px width.
smaller than a human hair. but still visible.
its located on the upper 1/3 of the screen. horizontal.
If you can't screenshot is,is hardware,a deadline pixel...sorry :/ Try to move the device, carefully hit it...and see if the line disappear for a moment...

If it is connection/floating error - it will not be visible always. If it is NOT hardware, you definitely should be able to take screenshot on which the line would be visible.
use LCD Test (AMOLED ready) from Google Play. Test it.
BUT: if you definitely DO NOT want to provide look, and same time if you DO require answers, solutions, and help - keep requiring.
Having the requirements is a best motivation in life.
Privately, I'd like to advise you to KINDLY ASK for help here, not to REQUIRE it.
i tried.
i do not know what to do or how to fix it.
what do u mean by floating /connection?
did the lcd test and the line was always there. (not sure about thee black screen- couldn't see)
and BTW
sorry for the tone.
some things do get lost in translation
and sometimes desperate and frustrate can sound like demanding.
THANK U FOR ALL YOUR HELP GUYS.
By the "floating" error type related with connection: loose screen connector.
I had this with one of my previous phones, that the error occurred pretty randomly.
But, if I'm not wrong, your phone is pretty new, right?
therefore, rather than using the term :"warranty repair", I'd prefer use of : item not according to the purchase agreement, and I'd took it to the store for replace (of course: it is possible in EU, but I have no idea where you live).
Anyway: Frustration is good excuse for me, which I can understand very well.
Good luck:good:

Get out!? When I looked up, there was this orange ball!
I think he's talking about color banding
Flickering grey lines I had it with PA. Noticeable on Facebook app. No such problem on cm.
If colour banding is what it's called.. That's it
I tried force GPU rendering and Hw overlays.. No Bacon.
Staying with cm.

Try turning the device off and leaving it for a few hours, if the lines aren't gone, bring it back to your carrier or contact Sammy support...

Light bleed on my SONY XPERIA X

Hi ...I got Xperia X (f5122) few days back & on the second day I noticed a weird light on the screen of my phone .There are two large spots at the bottom where the gaps are.I am attaching pictures here.
This is very frustrating and distractive even in daylight I can see this light coming off screen .Notice the area where the ' Back ' & 'recent ' keys are.
I haven't see this kind of light bleed on my previous Sony devices. This is easily noticeable even i don't look at it & execpt it's on 10 % or lower brightness.
May I request anyone from SONY to confirm this as manfacture defect or some issue with my device as this isn't a standard of a product ?
And anybody elese facing this issue please attach your pictures and do tell whether your Xperia X has it or not?
It will be very useful to me.

Excessive pressure ! Hell no! 1st day I got the device ;it was sealed pack ,set the device through setup guide ,charged it to 100% .and made sure that wifi was working because I need that and one 2nd day in morning I started disabling pre-installed apps and I noticed this.
I had atleast 9 Sony devices before & I don't remember having this issue.
Thanks for quick reply.
I am just curious because bleed is ( or whatever it is ) exact on back and recent key and they look organized ! lol ! So want to confirm from XPERIA X users do they have it on exact same spot.?
I am getting your point but do you have Xperia X & can you post a picture of it?
Set brightness 80% or more then dial *#*#7378423#*#* on phonepad -go to service test-display-click until u get black screen.Notice & post a picture if you can.

Was it dropped or exposed to water?

Even more likely just Sony's notorious quality control issue.
Wait! They calibrates each single mark 3 display individually isn't it? .
I really think this is just effect of their personal screen calibration of each unit.
Or a side effect haha!
Now we know it was just marketing bull...
