Car dock? - HTC EVO 3D

I have seen the car dock for the Sensation, anyone have information on a car dock for the Evo 3d?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App

If there is an official HTC car dock, I hope they don't completely and utterly fark it up by delaying it till several months after the phone launches only to launch an overpriced trinket ....like they did with the evo.

I don't understand the need for device specific car docks. How is it better then a universal dock?

edit: Ok, I'm sold. I just bought the iGrip Vehicle Dock for HTC Evo 3D from the Sprint Store and its amazing. It has a removable insert so you
can use it with a case on your phone! I can confirm all the cases we sell at TPU-Cases will fit the dock, I haven't gotten a chance to test it with
the Otterbox Commuter but I'm almost positive it will fit. The Defender on the other hand definitely will not. This is one sweet dock! $40

Universal docks don't hold the phone as well. I've yet to find one that isn't a heinous pile of garbage compared to the OEM Evo dock. I'll admit though, the Evo's dock is pretty spendy.

i have a griffen universal and had the oem evo one. i stuck with the universal, as i can keep my case on my evo with no problems.

The car dock can be seen here

Got down sat on a bench! That thing's a monster!
OMGWTFHTC?
Oh well, as long as its sturdy and the cable plugs into the dock, I'm fine with it.
edit: oh, wow, and it's $40, not $60 like the EVO 4G's dock. Hope its build-quality's as good.

lol i thought the same thing...

Great find thanks!

Wow, that does look pretty sweet! AS long as charger pugs into the dock and not the phone it looks pretty sweet. I really love the fact that my Evo starts to charge the moment i bomb drop it into my Seidio innodock. Speaking of which, I really hope Seidio comes out with thier own version as it will no doubt be compatible with their sweet extended batteries!

Those accessories appear to be mock-ups or at least not official HTC. Best buy has the official HTC Car and Desktop dock available for pre-order right now. Personally I'm glad those docks you posted aren't the real ones. Here's the link

Well Best Buy is saying they will have it....but the picture is abviously the evo 4g dock as the charge port is on the bottom...... here is the link:

Yeah, I get the feeling they're using the Evo 4G car dock image as a placeholder until the 3vo dock comes out. Its only pre-order at this stage.

Car Docks will be available on EVO 3d Launch day at Sprint Corporate Stores.

The car dock you are seeing is the actual Evo 3D car dock it will be 39.99 the usb cable runs along the back and plugs into the back of the cradle. it is not made by HTC, Sprint has them in STOCK now and ready for sale

I was at my local Sprint store today picking up a couple Otterbox Defender cases, they had this dock as well.

I picked up this dock today. Much better than the Original HTC Dock for the Evo. Works great. Camera can still be used and seems very well built.

The Otterbox Commuter case does not fit into it however I saw in the website that some cases will. I tried to cut off the charging port cover off the commuter phone but still no dice.

my body glove case is a fraction to big but it goes in none the less but it wont stay in car mode, but it will fit and charge, i might need to grind the little tabs off of the dock to make it work perfectly, i already emailed igrip in response to the dock not have the the tilt knob to adjust the dock up and down it only has the ball adjustment which doesn't allow the phone to sit where i need it, most docks have to adjustments and this one weather its a defect or first run device mistake its kind of annoying, igrips pictures show it with the arm adjustment

I was in a Bestbuy today and they had the official HTC Evo 3D Car Dock. It was priced at 59.99 I believe. I decided to go to Sprint and get the 39.99 iGrip which is the one pictured above. I must say, the iGrip is perfect. Very solid, had a good hold on the phone and just all around feels good. For those looking to use the dock for shooting video while driving, it works, but only for 2d. The 2nd camera is blocked. Also, once the phone is seated in the dock, the usb port that connects underneath automatically launches the "car panel" app which is cool. So anyone looking to save some $ on a dock, go for the iGrip.
Oh yea, and for those that dont know or forgot, 2 or more accessories for premiere members are 25% off. I bought two of these docks and saved $20.

Evo 3D Car Dock, Options?

The HTC branded car dock looks nice, but doesn't work with cases it looks like, only the bare phone. Or it won't work with my Seido Active case. My question is, since i plan on getting the extended battery by seido, does anyone know if that will work with the Igrip evo3d dock, or are there any other options?
The Car Dock available for the EVO 3D through Sprint does work with some of the slimmer cases. It actually has a removable section that makes room for the cases. I received the car dock a couple of days ago.

No way any Evo 3d specific dock is going to work with that 4000 mah battery, if that's the one you're talking about.

Purchased that. Works perfect.
Defender doesn't work with igrip. Works with tpu cases.

The EVO 3D car dock is set up the same way, except the plastic housing is different because of where the charger port is located on the phone.

Problem with those docks is they don't charge and its a pita to constantly disconnect and connect the cable. As well as the fact it doesn't go into dock mode.

Mine charges? I hook my charger right into it and it holds fine. And true about dock mode. I personally never liked it. I don't see why you couldn't just put a earth magnet on the holder. For the price it cant be beat though.

I think you missed his point. The dock doesn't have a built in charge port with the correct power values so the phone goes correctly into dock mode automatically. Instead, you have to make the extra move of plugging a charger into the phone itself. Its simply less convenient. The way I had my Evo 4g dock set up, I would dock the phone which would automatically turn on bluetooth, go into dock mode, turn up brightness, and start my Sirius app.
Never knew they had these. Nice!
I emailed seido, they said they are working on a car dock but do not have an ETA...

If you go to the accessories for the EVO 3D on the Sprint website you can see the one that I got (I can't post the link because I don't have enough posts in the forum yet). It works pretty well and has the built in charging port (its on the longer side of the holder) A section slides out so that some of the slimmer cases on the 3VO will still let you use the dock. It's working pretty well for me so far.

IIRC Sprint's and Best Buy EVO 3D specific car dock (none universal), is just the iGrip dock

Here is the link to this mount http://www.igrip.us/1536
As you can see the evo 3d igrip mount slides right onto this base mount. Which is great meaning any igrip devices I use in the future will work with this base.
Here is their whole mounting page. http://www.igrip.us/default.asp?avdelning=2&id=36
Ordered one of the igrip car mounts just now from LetsTalk. They have it on sale for $35 currently, plus I was able to use the coupon LTSAVE25 to get an extra 25% off (on the checkout page it mentioned coupon was for accessories with phone purchase, but it didnt stop me from checking out with it!). Free shipping too, so overall not too bad!

just to confirm Best buy HTC dock = iGrip right?
also, while I love the look and style of the Kuda base, for me personally, passenger side of the center console is way too far and also $60 for Kuda is just a bit rich for my blood. I'm probably going to get the ProClip upper left center mount for my RDX

When I went in there, it was no iGrip dock. It was boxed and labeled as HTC Car Dock for EVO 3D.
The box for it looked too small to fit the iGrip as well. I should've bought it when I had the chance.
Now I can't even find a picture of it online to confirm what it looks like. Although, someone earlier in this thread said that the 3D dock looks like the 4G dock, only the plastic for the port is on the side as it should be.
Personally, iDislike the look of the iGrip.
EDIT:: Got to take a peek at it for the HTC EVO 3D today.
It is what I like the looks of, and I may just have to get it soon!

[REVIEW] EVO 3D - iGrip Car Dock, HTC Car Upgrade Kit, HTC OEM Silicone Smerge Case

Here's my little review of the iGrip Car Dock, HTC Car Upgrade Kit, HTC OEM Silicone Smerge Case!
EDIT: I added some pros and cons to the car docks, some things I experienced on my way to work this morning.

HTC Car Upgrade Kit
Contents: Car Upgrade Kit, USB cable, dual USB port car charger, round sticky pad for mounting on a dash.
Pros:
- Designed specifically for the EVO 3D
- Little vibration when driving
- includes the USB cable and dual USB port car charger
- Can be rotated from portrait to landscape mode easily
Cons:
- Price tag (59.99)
- Doesn't rotate 360 degrees both directions (one way rotates farther then the other)
- Phone will not fit in the dock with ANY case on
iGrip Car Dock (some of these pics are dark, my apologies)
Contents: iGrip Car Dock, sticky pad for dashboard mounting, little hook to hold up a charger when plugged into the dock
Pros:
- Works with a case installed! (Excluding cases like the Defender, which are big and bulky) There's an insert that can be removed to allow for the cases, a nice feature
- Price (There's a thread here where you can order one for just over $26 shipped, but they retail for $39.99)
- Sturdy
- Extends closer to the driver when mounted because the arm is longer. I find this beneficial when driving, you don't have to reach so far forward to touch the screen.
- Can be rotated 360 degrees from both directions, just loosen the know behind the dock.
Cons:
- There's a little more vibration than the official HTC dock
- Doesn't come with any form of car charger
- Can't be easily rotated while driving, due to the knob you need to loosen up in the back before you can rotate the dock, and then tighten up the knob.
Side-by-side:
Between the two, I'm keeping the iGrip and returning the HTC dock. It's all plastic yes, but a very good product, also because it can be used with a case (see below)
HTC OEM Silicone Smerge Case
I love this case. It's not made to withstand any kind of a drop (I don't think, and I'm not going to find out! ) It will protect the phone from getting scuffed up and scratched up. It does attract a little lint, but I think all cases do (due to crevices they create around the phone)
Nice review. Looks like I made a good choice going with the iGrip dock.
Good stuff. The iGrip looks like the one.
Yeah the iGrip is really designed well. The only thing that's not as good as the official dock is the slightly more vibration in the dock when driving down the road, I assume that's because the neck on it is longer and it's harder to keep it still.

I had the HTC one for my OG EVO. I thought it was a great product. Only annoyance was that I had to remove my Barely There case.
When I bought the 3vo, the only docks that Sprint had in stock were the iGrips. Since, previously, Sprint had only carried the HTC model, I figured there might not be one for this phone, so I bought the iGrip.
I have to say, I like the iGrip a lot more. My phone fits beautifully with the Barely There case on it, and, I agree, it does extend out further, which I appreciate. I also like that it doesn't readjust easily. I have it set where I want it, securely tightened down, and I don't want it to move.
I will also agree that it does vibrate a little more than the HTC model did for me, but it's not problematic.

Yeah I had the HTC dock for my OG EVO too, and I liked it a lot more than the one for the EVO 3D and I still have it.
I'm selling my EG EVO (rooted) soon along with the dock and seidio 3500 mah battery.
I've just gotten the iGear dock because I was under the mistaken impression it was the "official" HTC car dock for the EVO 3D. I have to say I really don't like it nearly as much as the OEM HTC dock for my EVO. It wobbles a bit and can't be positioned nearly as articulately as the OEM EVO dock.
I'm also finding that when docked, the desktop doesn't move into landscape mode. Apps and pages that support landscape work fine, but the main sense UI and app drawer don't. I thought I recalled a dock orientation setting but I can't seem to find it. Am I just going nuts?
I'm seriously considering getting the OEM dock then taking this guy back. Maybe if the 'hinge' behind the ball/socket actually articulated, I could see keeping it. I don't use a case either, so that's not really a plus for me.

Yes, the iGrip has clearance for the camera, not 3D though, as it blocks the second camera used to create the 3D.

Thanks for any help...

Does anyone have the smart car kit from BestBuy in possession yet? Care to share some pics? How does it fit the E3D? Care to share more about it? Thanks ahead.

Anker EVO 3D cradle

Anker also make cradles? find one on ebay, anyone ever tryed this?
oops, no permit to post outside links, see my attachments.
yeah, somebody know where to buy?
Picked one of these up for $14 on Amazon when I purchased 2 Anker 1900mah sensation batteries for my 3D. Works great, can't use a case with this though.
Bonus for me is that it can charge another battery while your phone is docked. I will note I have found using the original HTC cable and HTC usb wall adapter with this works the best. I purchased a 10' cable for my phone, and using that with the Anker cradle didn't really do anything, but the original cable and adapter that come with the phone works flawlessly.

Please do - I'm now very curious since the price has dropped to a reasonable level.
I'm specifically interested in whether dock mode is automatically enabled, and what apps can be run from that configuration.
Also - I doubt it, but I'm curious if an MHL adapter can be connected to the dock to enable HDMI out.

I run MIUI so the dock program isn't installed, however I just tap the clock and it brings it to the picture you can see above. I believe if you're on a Sense ROM it will fire up dock mode. I actually had it plugged into my car, and started up Car Panel which was pretty gangster.
Overall, it's definitely nice to have while I'm at work during the week, but having to pop a case on and off all the time can be a hassle for some.
Otherwise it works great!

This is USB only I'm afraid. Since this is similar to Kidigi dock, Kidigi makes an MHL version of their dock but will run you about $49. You can find them on ebay. Hopefully Anker will rebrand one too for cheaper.

I was afraid having a case will interfere with this. What type case do you have by the way? I was kinda hoping atleast a TPU case would work with this dock.

I go back and forth between a Platinum case, these cheap snap on cases from eBay, and some Argyle patterned gel sleeve I got at Radioshack, and none of them work. This dock was meant for a caseless phone. I can't remember what dock I was looking at but there is one that has a removable tray that you can take out to accommodate a phone with a case.

Thank you for the input. I guess I'll just pass on this for now.
Kidigi makes a dock that can be used with some cases.
Just received my 2 Anker docks and they are great for the price. Each kit includes a dock, a wall charger, and 2 USB connectors (one long for power, one not quite as long for computer connection).
Construction is solid and phone fits well. The extra battery charging slot is a little tight, but I'd take that over loose.
Phone does not auto-recognize that it's in a dock, but I didn't expect it to.
All in all, I think well worth the price (~$45 for both and free shipping).

HTC DROID DNA Dock / Car Dock

Has there been any word about docks for this phone? With the charging port being on bottom of the phone as well as being covered I could see it being a bit more troublesome. Does anyone know if the charge port cover is fully removable or on a hinge?
I would love to see a quality car dock produced.

The official dock will undoubtably use wireless charging - which should make it easier to put on and off. The dock will probably be expensive though.
It will have a wireless charging pad. There are several options (http://www.geek.com/articles/mobile...rgers-for-the-nexus-4-and-droid-dna-20121114/). But the official one will be the pad from LG.
Good idea, except how am I going to use it as a clock by the bed?
i just picked up a wireless charging pad today from one of my local vzw stores so i am excited that i dont have to deal with that cover over the microusb port anymore to charge it

Get the car dock
I was wondering the same thing, I can't imagine how much a wireless charging car dock would go for, the regular ones from Verizon are expensive enough!

I'm guessing it will be around $80 at verizon, if it is indeed wireless charging. At that point, I'd probably look into putting a Nexus 7 in my dash where the radio was.

Exactly what I did. Aside from the wow factor, I simply got tired of having to delicately insert/remove my phone from the cradle worrying each time I was going to snap off the charger, scratch something, and just weaken its lifespan overall. I'm going to get the DNA however just so that I can finally slap a phone into the dock without even thinking about it. After I sell my car of course.
That looks great. Good job man.
Tony
Thank you very much for your help (It means a lot)

Looks good. I'll definitely be doing something like this in a year, which is why I wouldn't pay much for a phone dock. Hopefully the Nexus 7 (or a newer version) will have LTE by then. I'd pay $10 a month to have the car a mobile hotspot and it would be nice that it had its own internet.
Looks like some 3rd party stores are prepping to carry Docks: http://www.htcdepot.com/htc-droid-dna-car-kits-and-mounts.htm
I am going to get a wireless pad for work, then hope that a car dock and "home" dock will be sold by HTC and/or VZW. I'd rather not have to use a "generic" holder or modify my car's dash.
Car Dock for DNA coming
We at IBOLT will announce the DNA car-dock in the next week. It will work with all cases (even Otterbox Defender type) and you can turn it horizontal or vertical position with a very little of the Dock visible. The microUSB charging plug will trigger the HTC default car-mode (great app!) or anyone can download their favorite after-market app, type CarHome Ultra. Will post images within one week and link to availability.

Will it have wireless charging built in? Cause it doesn't sound like it when you mention usb. That would be a major fail for this product, imo anyway.
Edit: okay, I just saw in the other thread you mentioned wireless charging being built in, great news, get that thing out asap and I'll order at least 2.

Had the iBolt for my GS3 and loved it, so I'm very excited by this news. My only hope is that it is set up so that the phone goes in with the volume rocker on top rather than in the dock. This was the only problem with the GS3 version.

That would be a major PITA if it's just USB, as we would have to uncover our USB port every time we wanted to use the dock.
I would just buy a generic dock if it didn't have wireless charging, not worth the extra money otherwise.
