Official Samsung Galaxy I5500 ROMs - Samsung Galaxy 5 I5500

NOTE: I do not plan to update this software library anymore. It looks like Samsung won't push any newer version of their firmware in future. We are already happy to have an official fully working FroYo 2.2.2 on our budget phone. We also have a decently working CyanogenMod 7 port by psyke83 and there are first steps in porting CyanogenMod 9 by motafoca. Thanks to them for their endless efforts to bring latest Android versions to our gadget
I've created a separate thread for all the things concerning the official GT-I5500 ROM files released by Samsung. I've used my short product codes list and LuffarJoh's Check Fus Downloader utility in order to fetch this ROM archive from Samsung's own KIES update servers.
These ROMs are built to run on GT-I5500/GT-I5500B/GT-I5500L products. All Galaxy 5 phones have the same hardware but you are advised to use the version for a region as near to your location as possible. Why? Because baseband version could be different from region to region. If you are from Canada and try to use an European firmware, do not wonder if your phone could not connect to the 3G network.

Upgrading your I5500 device firmware using ODIN
The writer of this manual couldn't be held responsible for any damage that you could make to your phone by following or not following correctly this short guide. This is not a ROM backup guide. If you want to backup your current ROM before experimenting with this guide, please dig on the web and find the right guide for backing up your working ROM.
Possible reasons for flashing another stock ROM to your device:
1. You would like to make your device upgradeable via KIES and get rid of annoying "This device can't be updated" KIES message. Author note: I do not know why would one need KIES updates any longer as no more stock firmware updates by Samsung for the Galaxy Europa are expected in future. Samsung customer support was clear enough that Samsung do not plan to bring Android 2.3 for the device, no matter that it is stil being sold by mobile operators and phone shops.
2. You would like to use a different language version. While previous Android 2.1 builds for the Galaxy Europa had all the languages in one place, since Samsung introduced Android 2.2 for this phone they've split the Android translations to regions (eg. Western Europe, Eastern Europa, Latin America etc.).
3. You just relocated in another country and your phone couldn't connect to the 3G network. As I noted in the previous post this could be solved by using the correct baseband version for your region.
4. You wanna go back to stock ROM before getting rid of your phone on eBay. And maybe the buyer of your phone is located in different country using different broadband.
5. Your phone has hardware issues and you wanna use Samsung repair service. Now this is a very credible reason to switch back your Galaxy Europa to Samsung's original stock ROM.
Please, note that latest CyanogenMod ports by psyke83 from MADTEAM work very nice and have less and less issues. They are using more open source software, better sensors driver, they come rooted out-of-the-box and will be supported longer than Samsung's own firmware. You may go to MADTEAM forum, read carefully the CM7 port manual and give CM7 a try. If you are not convinced to switch to CyanogenMod port by MADTEAM yet, then you may proceed by flashing latest official Samsung ROM for your device.
And once again if you missed the first line of this posting: Author of this manual could not be held accountable for any damaged or bricked devices. You are following this manual on your own risk!
I. Finding phone's Product Code
Just dial the following code like if you are dialing a regular phone number

After learning your product code it is time to browse the following list and download the appropriate firmware version for your device, then upload .tar file using the Odin Multi Downloader 4.28, found at the bottom of this manual. Please, check One Package mode in Odin and load the tar file downloaded from our firmware library and DO NOT FORGET to also load the EUROPA_v1.0.ops file included in Odin archive.

II. Entering download mode
Not it is time to enter the device in Download mode so you could upload the firmware to it using the Odin Multi Downloader. Just turn off your Galaxy Europa and when device is turned off push and keep pushed in this order the keys: VOL DN, CONFIRM KEY, POWER/END (these are the key you use to lower the sound volume, the big rounded key and the key you use to turn on/off the phone). A few seconds later you will see an yellow under construction android robot sign saying Downloading...
III. Plug the phone and pray
Now plug your phone cable while Odin is running and loaded with the right tar or tar.md5 file. The first field in the left of the Odin window will go yellow and show you something like 1 (COM 1). Now it is time to click the Odin start button and wait for the firmware upload to complete. If it takes ages to complete or download fails your are not lost yet. Just restart Odin and if needed remove and place back in phone's batter while it's cable unplugged and reenter ind download mode. Then restart the upload process.
IV. All is done
When upload finishes fine, you have your phone updated with a stock ROM of your choice.

though your PDA CSC and Phone codes dont make much sense... But I have no clew about canadian firmware. I tried couldnt find it, perhaps you need to do some more reading.

I saw on XDA that the Netherlands didn't have a android 2.2 update.
I asked Samsung Netherlands, they confirmed and also said it wasn't sure there ever will be one...
Yesterday is decided to flash my phone with a europe-version. The cyanogenmodversion came in a loop, so i searched further...
hotfile (downloadsite) gave an error (said i was downloading, but the download broke so after that i couldn't download via this site (samfrmware uses it).
googled for the same file (I5500XWJPJ), found it but after the dowload the package contained... I5500NEEJP3 (which is originally for Sweden).
I flashed my phone anyway and... strangely it worked perfect!!
rooted it with UniversalAndroot and after that had a perfect working rooted phone!
Amazing discovery: my phone has Dutch language, swipe is also in Dutch!
How can this be? And why don't they release this version as working 2.2 via KIES?

Hello!
Is there a "complete idiots" guide to updating the Galaxy 5? I am a total newbie in regards to this stuff. I live in the USA.
I just bought this phone to use while travlling overseas in a few weeks. It is unlocked, and I was able to download Kies from the Australian samsung website.
Phone connects, but it says "This is the latest Firmware"

Did I do something wrong?

Also, when I gointo Kies options, there is place to "download firmware automatically", I have checked the box, but there is not any phone listed in the area where the phone should be, even with the phone connected.
I have not put in a SIM card yet, but put in a micro SD card.

While Im Portuguese I Dont live in Portugal so I have no idea... BUT
TPH is for Portugal I have no idea what the other letters stand for.
My phone now upgraded to official froyo via KIES says Product code is GT-I5500YKACPW so my educated guess is that perhaps its related to your Firmware version?
This all depends where you purchased the phone for instance if you bought it unlocked you didn't buy it from a Vodafone store nor a TMN store nor a Optimus store... This is because by rule of thumb These are network providers and They 99% of the time don't sell unlocked mobiles... Same here in UK where I live.
Those extra characters could be all attached to the special identifier firmware for this company... Or date year time of manufacture.
In UK you have companies that sell phones unlocked but always with a network sim as part of the deal, for instance mine was bought in Car phone warehouse with a orange network sim (though i use it on O2.
Another company that sells phones like that in UK is Phones4U I haven't a clew what their identifier would be like, only you know where and who you purchased the mobile from.... Hopefully from legal proper retailer....
My phone retailer code is CPW your is TPH I haven't been to Portugal in 6 years so idk who that is.
Also your KIES Upgrades phones hopefully by their codes not what country they are connecting from, if this is not a case try a proxy.
Its quite possible that whoever company sold you the phone has not released the froyo officially. It took CPW = car phone warehouse 6+ months after all other networks had released froyo officially.
You can:
A) make a backup of your current firmware
B) Flash froyo using a 3rd party tool
C) try to email the company who sold you the phone and find out.
But always backup your original firmware.... whatever you do.

I think I may have figured it out. On a few samsung devices and tablets, the "cwa" is followed by the phrase "chic white".
So I think that the cwa stands for the white casing on the phone ( which is mine).
I got the phone from a local no name dealer, and the box was a bit beat up. I verified that the phone worked, but I just assumed it would be upgradeable to 2.2. I don't know the history of this phone or where it came from, the "cwa" shows up on a bunch f russian websites, which I can't read.
It would be nice to upgrade it, but I don't want to risk ruining the phone.
I can't even figure out how toback up the firmware. I am a total newbie at this kind of thing.

Well google and read a lot, google also does webtranslators so you can translate whole websites, Im also a noob...
As far as I know these mobiles only made in two colors yet the codes for black vary so I thinks its a firmware identifier, but again idk they certanly dont follow any case colors.

If there is a firmware able backup tool I have no idea, but only backup if you going to flash with a non official rom. Heck in your case does it even matter? The phone was purchased in Portugal and your in USA are you going to fly to Portugal for warranty reasons? Just postage you can go buy a new one...
Im pretty sure thers shops that you can go and give someone a few dollars to fix your phone for you if you bugger it up.

I am in process of updating all the links of the stock ROMs in my first post of this thread.
I've noticed that multiupload mirroring service is no longer working now.
Within a day or two the complete ROM library will be back online, so, please, be patient!
I do not plan to make more updates to this firmware list as Samsung itself seems to have stopped updating the Galaxy Europa device. There are five or more months without a single update of the device from KIES, no matter that the phone is still being sold by mobile operators.

Hi chillvisio, I updated my wife galaxy 5 I5500B with the JP9/JP6/JP9 rom ... the phone was unlocked (from Fastshop store) without any operator trash, so I used this rom that seems to be the retail one ... now the phone is waking up from time to time when it is in standby ... the screen turns on and off without any user intervention ... this seems to be a bug but I didn't found any possible solution ... the battery consumption increased a lot and I suspect that this bug that is generating this problem. Do you have any idea how to fix it ?

Olá, daniel_ar,
feel free to try some other ROM, for example the I5500L ARO version (UYJPO). Brazilian version is pre-loaded with some 'extra' apps and some of them may have battery draining issues. I am using the UYJPO version flashed with Brazilian baseband over it and rooted with SuperOneClick and have no battery draining issues. The I5500L version also feature Português do Brasil translation ;-)
P.S. How about the battery draining issues, I've also noticed that some very useful applications like AdFree and LBE Privacy Guard are also draining battery. If you still have battery draining issues after reinstalling with UYJPO version you may reset phone to factory settings and start installing your additional apps one after another with some 6-7 hours gaps between them and test which one is draining your battery.

I do not have access to a desktop in this moments so i would like to know if i can install the stocks roms using cwm..
