Monoprice all the way. The prices are outstanding and they deliver a first class product. I order hundreds of cables a year from them (IT) and have never had an issue with one.

That is pretty unlikely since the cable was ordered custom by Steve (electroniccrap.com). And considering it is less than half the price of the docking station (which is the ONLY other way to get the output) it is not a bad deal.

Not sure there is anything made in china that is exclusive to any one any more.
The cable is available for as low as $20 (pack of 50) and $34 (single purchases) free shipped from China.
I also need to correct you on the math, $30+ shipping @electroniccrap is not less than half the price of the docking station, the fact is the total cost would be very comparable (if not more for international shipments) to the discounted rate for docking station $43.69 shipped world wide (merimobiles with "welcome" discount code)
cool, video does work. Hopefully someone in China posts this up on ebay for alot cheaper. The price for a single cable is still a bit expensive.
This is definitely a unique cable because i can't find another similar cable anywhere.

So if you know a shop please tell us.

HDMI cables in general can be more expensive than you'd expect, but here's a reasonably priced adapter...
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/bizlink-mhl-to-hdmi-tv-out-adapter-black-p29839.htm
http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias=aps&field-keywords=mhl&x=0&y=0
hit the thanks button
You can also try monoprice.com
to answer the initial question: why are they expensive?
because while they are often referred to as adapters, they are actually not. an adapter is something that changes the shape of plugs from one shape to another, like travel adapters for different outlets, the usb otg adapter or when you have a cinch to 3.5mm plug. but this box does way more than just convert the shape, it converts the signal. there is a chip in there that does a lot of work which is also why you need a power supply, it doesn't just charge the phone, it also powers the mhl chip.
and since it actually does something and is not just a piece of wire, it might well cost 20eur, but certainly 50 pounds is too much, i'd have to agree with you on that. still, i am waiting for a cheap german shop to offer them. way less trouble with payment and shipment.

where to get the usb data cable for cheap.

i cannot believe how expensive this transformer data cable are. Only need a spare usb cable without the charger but everywhere it seems to overprice. Where are you guys getting it from?
What is overpriced to you? Without that info, others won't know if they should post their price. I got one off eBay for $12. But, only because I bought the charger with all power adapters from same person at same time for too much money

ebay.
The 5ft is standard OEM, the cheaper 3ft is after market.

i search and the $12 i have found all are aftermark brands. You can buy a ipad cable for $3 why are this cables for asus transformer so expensive. Even if it is for transformer 1 since they are basically same cable.

Because there are millions more people with any idevice than Transformer/Transformer Prime devices. Simple economics really, they can sell them for less as they are made in higher quantities which makes their production cheaper, and they'll sell way more of them.

While that is how economics works when referring to production costs, I doubt that is the real reason. There is truth no doubt but the difference in cost is not that great. I think it is more of there is less demand so there are less people making them, so there is less competition and they can get away with charging more.
I don't know why I am arguing with you. It is just semantics. Anyway, I find it annoying.
The real reason that iPad wires are so much cheaper than Transformer Prime wires is that a lot more companies make 3rd party iPad cables.
If you are in competition with a dozen other vendors of the same product, you drop the price to stay competitive and if enough companies are making a given product eventually the price drops to just above manufacturing cost.
Only one other company (that I can find) is making 3rd party Transformer cables, so as long as they price themselves lower than Asus's first-party cable they have no real pressure to drop their price lower.
I bought a complete TF101 charger (also compatible with TF201) for 30 from Office Depot.
I figured I can always use an extra USB charger along with the data cable.
I'm surprised, not even one vote for Monoprice.com?

Monoprice is great but I did not find anything that you could tell was definitely the right one.
Does anyone know if the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 cables are compatible?
They look the same as the Asus cables in photos and they both seem to be based of of the PDMI standard. If the Galaxy Tab cables work, those are available from more locations and at more reasonable prices.

Are you looking for just a regular USB/micro-USB cable? I don't see why not.
I have plenty lying around, I can double check if you need anything in particular if you'd like.

never tried of tested but 10bucks here

What i am currently using is a USB 3.0 extension cable i got off Amazon for 6 or 7 bucks if i recall correctly (bought i way back in my tf101 days). Plug one end into the charging block, plug the tfp cable into the other end. Mine snaps in snuggly and needs some force to disconnect (if you r worried about that sort of thing). Works perfectly.

Thanks for doing this. If you've never ordered from DealExtreme before, it takes a long, L O N G time for items to arrive. Close to 1 month is not all that uncommon. They will show up, but good gravy, they are darned slow.

[PSA] Practically Free HDMI Cable

Price has since gone up... thread closed...
Public service announcement:
Gold Plated HDMI to HDMI Mini cable, 2 M / 6.56 FT for $0.03 + shipping.
http://www.amazon.com/Gold-Plated-HDMI-Mini-cable/dp/B00104XCVO/
I have no relationship with the seller and can't even buy one myself because I'm not in the US...
Whoa thats way over priced just kidden, jeedh makes ya wonder how a place like bestbuy can get away with selling a cheaper version of the same cable but for 30 to 50 bucks! Makes me absolutely sick. Great find thanks a lot. Now find us a tablet for 10 bucks

It is now... it's gone up 100% already... now it's $0.06!
Only problem with this deal...
The Transformer Prime uses a MICRO-HDMI cable. Not Mini-HDMI.
http://www.amazon.com/HDMI-Type-Mic...?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1336744391&sr=1-21
$0.19+$2.85(P&H) Six Foot Micro-HDMI to HDMI Cable
Still can go for this instead:
Micro HDMI 3 ft for $.01
or this
6.5 Ft micro HDMI fo $.01
The catch.... about $3.00 shipping and handling. Looks like there is a price war going on at Amazon with third party vendors, charging only a penny, but then upping the "shipping and handling". Most are from Hong Kong companies, but some ship from US if thats where you are located.
Summary of Micro-HDMI offers
I would personally rather spend $10 on this 10-Foot Micro-HDMI cable from Newegg.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16882270039
This way I actually have someone that can be held responsible if the cable doesn't work.
If you are put off by the Amazon sellers you could go here...

I use a micro-hdmi cable that I bought from ebay for around $3 for my evo 4g that works great. There's no point in spending extra money when it's cable that either works or does not.
I always seem to forget about monoprice for some reason. Just got their 15 foot cable with ferrite choke for like $11 after s & h. That's only seventy cents a foot and from a respectable online website.

Anker
I get them in the pack with different lengths and save:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015XPQ5KK/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I've bought these too; a little spendy but nice:

If you're lucky enough to be able to pick this up locally, these cables are a steal at $3 bucks. Supports quick charge 2.0 and lasts about a year of daily use.

I been using these for a long long time..... you get a three pack of very long usb leads https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01M19EUYW

This. Anker is the only company I will buy chargers and cables from. Very high quality and customer service is world class, should you need it.
Amazon's Kindle Fire cables, I use em religiously. It takes a LOT to make them break.
If you're into buying stuff from chine, I couldn't recommend Aukey enough.
Anker my friend. They are very well built at a good price. Never seen one even wear out. Plus those 5 or 6 packs of powerline from amazon comes with a handy 1 footer for flashing
Anker Powerline+ is the only cable I could recommend. PROS: Amazing strength, quality, comes up to 10 feet. CONS: Few colors, kind of expensive for a cable. Review: The cable is superb quality, and the Powerline+ Series (and Anker in general) has great quality control. Warning: Beware, the regular Anker Powerline (non +) cable that I used to have had a quite low quality tip, and began slipping from my phone's port after a month of moderate use (which to me was a huge deal). My Powerline+ has yet to suffer that, and still provides a great snap and fits snug in my port after 2 months of moderate usage. Bottom line: Worth the price, and it isn't even THAT expensive. Great and probably best overall cable.
