Link2SD - Gingerbread Issue - Galaxy Ace S5830 General

Hey guys, I've a problem with gingerbread. I've created an ext2 partition on my sd card. LINK2SD successfully installs, but when I start the app it asks for partition type and reboots immediately. I never came across this problem with froyo. Please help me out.
Thank You

as far as I know, there is no solution yet,the problem is on ace you can't write the init.rc file yet.

Link2SD works perfectly on Froyo. Hence I'm holding back upgrading to Gingerbread until that's fixed .

For now, I worked around the problem this way:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14159285&postcount=1317
You must install with Odin a CODE_S5830XXKP modified file (it contains changed init.rc).

You can use DarkTremor App2SD with VillainROM...

Cool, thanks for sharing. However, I wanted to ask if it is ok to upgrade to KPE and also do the above technique without any factory reset or wiping the data and having to reinstall all apps again. I already have Link2SD set up on my KC1.
Also, I dunno much about DarkTremor's A2SD, is it better than Link2SD in any way?

Every time you make a change with Odin, the phone is completely reset and data are lost (with a backup program is not a big problem). This does not happen just by upgrading by Kies.

Hmm, well not really an upgrade but I did reflash my KC1 when I got soft bricked twice, and all my data was intact I believe.

With odin? I do not know... Long ago I have flashed KC1 and recently KPE (two times) and this has always reset the phone memory (I lost applications, settings, etc.). Better for you

Yeah I did with Odin. Reflashed KC1 twice. I just lost certain minor stuff like Speed Dial numbers and all. My Google and other accounts were still there. Also my Messages.

You can use Titanium Backup or MyBackup for backup your apps and data... its easy and fast...

Yeah I have my apps backed up on Titanium. I just didn't want to deal with manually Link2SDing them one by one again.. I dunno if Titanium would restore the linked and non-linked apps as they are now.

[Q] n00b question about A2SD, CM7 beta3, and widgets

hi
i recently flashed the CyanogenMod 7 beta3 found here
I have an issue with my apps, prob. due to the a2sd stuff. i can't see most of my app's widgets, including the messaging widget. maximum annoyance!! when i put other apps such as facebook in the phone memory, the widget appears in the selection screen, but the messaging app was and is in the phone memory all the time..
HELP WILL BE EXTREMELY APPRETIATED
also, i'm planning to make a vid about flashing the cyanogenmod rom to a phone. who's with me!
i'm having problems with darktremor's a2sd too, it seems to be that it's unable to mount/recognize /sd-ext... i've just backed up with TB, re-partitioned and wiped everything, let's see if a fresh flash enables CM 7 b3/a2sd to recognize /sd-ext -.-"
it keeps gettin stuck at the cyanogenmod animation... it's getting me mad!
there was no way for me to get dt's a2sd working on cm7b3... -.-"

Look at the CM7 thread, in the first post is the solution to your problem, you just need to flash a .zip before flashing CM7..

I think it is native to the system, at least you are able to move apps..
Correct me if i'm wrong
Am I the only one that the choise of the keybord is not stored between reboots?? can someone test please?
(using smartkeyboard pro)
Moved the app to phone memory and worked fine, my bad!
Well, these actions may help you guys "am not sure":
-When installing a widget in CM7, never move it to SD card, it will be only recognized when it's located at phone memory.
-When installing CM7 itself, don't partition your SDcard, just format it using PC or any utility and install CM7 using recovery "so it won't stuck".
-if the stuck thing still happening, download from CM7 topic a Wiper file which will wipe your system setting if wiping is not working on your O1.

I did the partition but flashed the Wiper file, worket fine!
Is thera any way to flash CM7beta4(when it's released) and keep all the apps and configs?
EDIT: Sorry, wrong thread.
When i connect the phone to USB, the widget crash, and also the apps i have to move it to SD because they installing in the phone memory. Dont recognize the Partition.
Sorry for my English.
question
my messaging app (stock) is in my memory, and i can access it, but i cannot access the messaging widget. CAN ANYONE HELP?
I'm not that noob, I can follow instructions, I erased /system using adb, and flashed cm7 many times, partitioning (needs to be done to get darktremor's a2sd working) and flashing a2sd every time, it's just that this time just didn't work... I flashed again doing a "fresh install" and got cm7 to load, but there's no way to get a2sd working... Using "native" cm7's a2sd doesn't just move apps to fat32 partition?

If you already have cm7 on the device, flashing the rom's zip file from recovery should be enough ;-)

Upgrade with data?

I am new to these forms and was wondering if there was a good walk-through/guide for changing your phone data over when you are upgrading to a newer version of the same rom.
Thanks to your forms already I have no problem switching roms but I do have a few favorites I would like to keep updated without starting fresh. Pointing me in the right direction or any advice would be much appreciated!

Don't know what you mean by the "Recovery Mod".
I use the method I outline in my post here; about the middle of my post, in response to PieceKeepr, starting with my third paragraph to him.
"TB" in my post is "Titanium Backup" on the Android Market.
Ya what I ment by "Recovery Mod" was the Rom Manager ClockworkMod. Will check out your post, thanks for the advice.

I'm still not sure what ClockworkMod has to do with merging data, but as long as you know what you mean, that's what's important! Maybe you meant you did a no wipe (Dalvik wipe only) update? Sorry I'm having trouble understanding.
Not quite what I ment but probably the same result. What I did was Backup the whole current system (nand) currently running GSB 2.1 then did a system/data/dalvic wipe and installed the new GSB 2.4 CM7 booted it up with gapps etc. Made sure it was working. Then rebooted and went into recovery and restored just the user data.

Also thanks again for the advice on Titanium Backup it works good and I really like their use of just being able to restore data. I was looking for just an app, however because I am a Designer by trait I only overlooked their program because I didn't like the icon... silly me.

If you could bear with me for a little bit longer there's still something I'm missing. Recovery doesn't have anything having to do with restoring user data. Could you tell me exactly what menu option(s) you're referring to?

You're welcome. For a long time I swore by My Backup but once Titanium Backup was updated for Gingerbread it actually works better for me than it ever did all the other times I tried it before. Especially with the option in TB's preferences to restore apps to the locations that it backed them up from, since I use Apps2SD to move a lot of my apps to the SD card, so that's just one more thing I don't have to do.

I do like the data restore better on TB and of course MyBackup I did use before but it didn't have the options I was trying to find. Anyways what I did was make a complete system backup using ClockworkMod Recovery, then like I said installed the new version. Booted back to recovery and from the menu:
- backup and restore > - Advanced Restore >
Then I choose my backup "date bla bla"
- Restore data
Thats about it, hope that helps ~ let me know what you think.
I'm lazy, I just overlay my roms each time. I think I've been doing it this round since about GSB 1.6 or 1.7 when I had to do a full wipe because something got glitchy.
Previously when I was on KF, I went quite a while with flashovers.

Ya, it seems to work pretty good, haven't found much wrong with it I do the same as you for the new versions.
1. Make a backup
2. Wipe
3. Install new version
4. Install gapps
5. Boot it
6. Reboot into recovery do the cache2cache
7. Restore data...

Factory reset after root?

My software on my droid x2 isn't doing good. From what I have seen something will happen in the background that causes all my system apps to restart, only they never finish restarting which begins to devour my memory and eventually leads to my phone freezing up. Also the ringtones like to change randomly to default (alarms set in third party apps too).
I was hoping rooting and getting rid of bloatware would solve this problem but it is still persisting. I thought I could restore backed up system apps with Titanium Backup so I was removing the apps. I'll leave them "restoring" for 45 minutes with no luck (I tried both just restoring the app and restoring both apps and data). So apparently it doesn't work like that.
My question is if I do a factory reset with my phone in its current condition, will I have an issue?
If u diddnt freeze the apps then you might. Did u back them up before u removed them?
Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk
Yes I backed up all of them, but when I go to restore them it doesn't work. It just keeps restoring them eternally. I waited 45 minutes for app only restore and it wasn't done.
If I am just clearing data in the process of a factory reset, can I maybe wipe data manually or with a tool that wipes data?
Anyone know the answer to this? I tried installing from the apk pack of services, but not all of them would install. My phone really needs a factory reset, I'm getting a lot of software related errors.
Could I maybe manually wipe certain apps? If anyone happens to know which built in apps are okay to wipe I would like to know.

Not all the apps in system can be installed via tapping on them. They need to be manually moved to system/app then change permissions. You can copy all over using root explorer

All you need to do is swap internal and external mount points. My Eclipse ROM has this built in. There is an init.d script that is floating around here that will do it as well.

[Q] [closed] Apps from a2sd ext partition won't entirely remove themselves

Hi,
I recently flashed a new ROM (fla.sh's fla.sh X2, it's excellent, btw) and successfully set up ext4 partitions for a2sd.
The problem is that I sorta "pushed" my phone a little bit too hard whilst downloading 3 apps simultaneously from the Market (I have a weak connection and was furiously multitasking at that time). In the end, those 3 apps wouldn't start at all; it'll load, then pop up a force close dialog.
First I thought it was a problem with the Market data or cache, so I cleared both. Still got errors. Now I believe that the apps are messed up from the ext4 partition.
How can I fix this? I browsed the partition through Terminal Emulator and Ubuntu, but I can't seem to find anything that'll help.
Should I format the partition (or SD card)? I'm picking that as a last resort, since I have other apps in a2sd.
Thanks in advance, let me know if I'm being ambiguous or you need more info.
actually u can browse a2sd partition directly using ur phone, no need ubuntu or teminal whatsoever. in this case, im using rootexplorer. its /system/sd
I can't believe I just realized that. Thanks for mentioning!
But still isn't helping me with my problems.
I took a look over at the fla.sh X2 post, and fla.sh said that it's caused by the V6 Supercharger script.
I'm downloading the de-supercharger script now, hoping it'll fix it.
Have you tried unninstalling them and then installing them again? :S
No, just do a factory reset before flashing. It will format your .asec and sd-ext folders and clean out the apps.

Tried to change my keyboard... now phone crashes. Fix permissions doesn´t help

So I wanted to change my keyboard... In fact I *did* change my keyboard.
At first whenever I wanted to use the keyboard (for notepad for example) it would say something like "Unable to reach" but after a while the keyboard just started working.
Then I switched on wifi and everything started crashing with the usual "Unfortunately (insert every task) has stopped working".
I know I can probably solve this by doing a factory wipe... but I also know that there MUST be a better way to solve this problem.
I have adb installed. I have Siyah kernel.
I can access the whole damned phone from my laptop in or out of recovery mode. I just don't know where to look to fix the problem.
A possible clue:
I tried flashing Keyboard-Blau.zip when my keyboard wasn't working. But CWM aborted the flash with an unknown error.
This is very similar to what happened the last time I had this problem. The only thing in the zip anyway was AXT9IME.apk in the system/app folder.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
P.S. I have also wiped cache and davlak cache AND attempted to install a rom. All permissions in system/app seem fine.
Could it be that system is mounted as r/w somehow?
EDIT2: Just now when I tried to to wipe dalvik (sp) cache it said something about:
"Unknown volume for path sd-ext"
Just a note.
Also I have erased /system then installed the rom again and it's still acting up.

Yeah I know a full wipe will fix it. I've already done that and screwed it up again a few more times for testing purposes.
My point is that there SHOULD be a way to fix it without a full wipe.
I mean if you've got root access, CWM recovery, AND you can actually boot the phone and access adb at the home screen... Then it should be possible to fix the problem.
It's a shame android dosnt return an error telling you WHY something is crashing. Then it would be a cinch.

This one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1483428
...from post #2. Then I tried the zip in post 3 and four. (If you'd like to replicate the error just backup your /data then you can do whatever the hell you want and just restore /data and you'll have everything.) Then I tried flashing the zip from post 3 or 4... which didn't work. Followed the directions for changing permissions on the keyboard.
I hadn't realized you could backup everything from CWM Recovery. And hadn't even considered that just restoring /data would work without screwing everything up again... but work it did! Wish I had realized that a couple of weeks ago... but I didn't really want that data anyway.
Basically I just want the touchwiz keyboard because the standard android one is too small for my hands.
But I can't quite figure out how changing two files... and even changing them back later... could crash the whole damned OS beyond repair.
