Now that an HDMI cable seem to have successfully built anyone think an RCA out cable is possible?
I have one for my iPhone and find it very convenient when traveling since more hotel TVs will have RCA connectors but no HDMI.
I'm not sure about the technical problems of resolution coming out of the dock connector but...just a thought. Would also be great if it did not need power.
Thanks.
That's not a big problem. Just need a consumer group. Don;t know how many guys interest in it. +1

I believe that HDMI is digital output, RCA jack is analog. Only DVI has digital & analog output.
You would have to get a converter such as this ....

That was one of my concerns. I am really not sure what kind of outputs the dock connector has.
Im in same boat as you.
The dock for the gtab is HDMI output
Where I would actually want to hook my phone/tablet to a tv I need to use a rca composite plug.
You need to buy a hdmi to composite converter and best I can find so far is $50 on ebay for one.

No, it's not. The cable is direct out of the connectors. I don't think the iPhone can send out HD signals, but not sure about it.
This is not the exact same cable, but it's almost identical:

But with the gtab you need to connect it to the dock in order to hook it up to a tv.
The docks output is a HDMI cable, which is a digital signal. Doesnt mean its HD its just digital. The Rca plugs are for an analog signal. You need to convert the digital to analog and a cable alone wont do it even if its hdmi on one end and rca on the other it wont work.
That cable may work for you on the iphone but this is a different setup

Yeah you can find a DVI-HDMI cable easily. I used one from my PC (DVI) to my 42" (HDMI). You should be fine if you just find a cable like I used (which was nice that it was cheaper for me than an actual HDMI/HDMI cable and then using a DVI/HDMI adapter).

Thanks for the replies... I am looking for something that will also push audio from the HDMI. I may need to purchase a converter, but I don't want to pay that much if it won't work. Is the audio jack on the tab disabled when using the HDMI out? If not, then you can use a 3.5mm to stereo cable to run the audio.
I'm not aware of anyway to adapt out the HDMI audio to an analog equivalent. HDMI audio is digital, so there would have to be some active conversion going on, which means an expensive adapter.

Not sure if audio is disabled when Dock is used(haven't recieved mine yet, I got in on rebate) was hoping to get a jump on what I would need to use my G Tab with my bigscreen.
I know about Digital to analog issue but I have read that some devices will work with a fairly inexpensive adapter. I may be the guinea pig on this... I have found full converters that start from $150.00+. I guess I will wait and see if anyone has already gone down the road I face.

There is an official HDMI to VGA adapter from Asus
However, I was wondering if third party adapters could work. I found one from dealextreme that is male-mini-HDMI-to-male-VGA adapter.
If Transformer supports analogue VGA signal via HDMI port, then I think it should work. If the official adapter has some additional D/A converter built-in (which I think is unlikely), then only the official cable will work.
Has anyone tried?
Could you please give us a pointer of the official HDMI to VGA from Asus?

Generic ones should work fine. But be prepared for some long chains. e.g. mini to regular HDMI, HDMI to DVI, DVI to VGA.

it really depends on the tablet, since HDMI is digital and VGA and DVI is analog, so it depends if the tablet actually gives a analog signal or not
if it doesn't you're gonna need a DAC to use VGA =/
Tried it?
Has anyone tried a mini hdmi to vga cable? If so please can they confirm.

Second here...tried it...not working
Ya it doesn't work for me too.
I suspect ASUS mapped the pins differently from the HDMI pins to the VGA pins. If ASUS can make the HDMI-to-VGA adapter work, that means the Transformer can already support analogue signal output from the HDMI port. Or else they would need a bigger adapter to do D/A conversion outside the tablet. If so, then once someone got hold of the mapping, it would be easy to mass produce a HDMI-to-VGA cable for the tablet.
FOTA Update?
If you have had the FOTA ASUS update and have a mini HDMI to VGA adapter please can you test. Looks like this update added support for the new Asus accessories, of which is the Asus VGA adapter.
I use the HP HDMI->VGA adapter and it works just fine. I need to use an adapter to convert to MiniHDMI.

Beware that normal cable adapters may not work, since a digital - analogical convertion is needed.

Yes! The offical asus conveter is very similar, but already have the mini hdmi, but the adapter is small. Noticed that it may not be easy to found this adapter ina a retail store, I forgot to buy it online when I buyed the hdmi to vga converter. What. Digital Visual Interface, what's analog about it? DVI-I does analog too, but it's still a digital connection that can do analog. If the video card supports HDMI encryption with a cheap adapter DVI can even send HDMI signals.

This same adapter cost like 15 bucks in my country (Panama), it sucks!
I need to be able to connect my Galaxy S2 through a rca video input. In order to do this I need to:
1) Get an MHL adapter: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005NTHXYY
2) Use a hdmi to rca converter like: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0047PDBP0
In theory this should work. What do you think? Any issues you see?
In theory, maybe. Let us know if you try it out. Also, as this is accessory related it should not have been put in General.
Sorry, wasnt sure about the right category.
Probably, but the resolution will suck.
I know... its just for displaying the content on an in dash double din radio that has an lcd so i can see larger screen in a more convenient location for things like navigation and song information. Unfortunately almost, if not all, car stereos have rca input an not hdmi.
Oh in your car... then you're going to need a 9v adapter... or an inverter, but then it gets clunky.

The head unit has a usb input. I am hoping it will be able to give power to the MHL adapter.
Need it for the hdmi to rca box.
this might be unrelated or something you already know, but my Alpine stereo with USB wont read any Android device, not even for music or videos. I'm about to change to a similar Pioneer model, so I can't say on that. I'm not sure you can just run Android on the 7" LCD if that's what you're trying to do.

Why wouldn't it work? My old stereo had RCA inputs and i used to hook my ipod up to it all the time. This is just adding a step (the hdmi -> RCA converter).
Should work...
I do think that once you find a way to power the HDMI -> RCA converter, you should be fine. You might want to take the one step first to see if your stereo's USB power will power the MHL adapter by connecting it to an HDMI TV if you can.
Personally, I do not know why there are not more auto options that have HDMI input yet. I wold love to be able to put my video on a screen for my passengers, but going all the way down to RCA seems really silly when it should not be hard to have an HDIMI monitor for the car, but I have really only seen a handful, and most of those are really for video camera applications and thus over-priced.

Well I've wanted to make a TV-Out cable for a while. How would I go about doing that? I have a 3.5mm headphone jack, an av cord, and everything else i would probably need.
Could someone tell me which wires go where? Ex, normally right earphone wire would be video, left earphone sound, etc... If someone could give me a diagram, that'd be amazing.
Also, does TV-Out give Mono sound, or stereo? Thanks.
You probably need to search online for schematics for an MHL adapter, as this is what the Galaxy SII uses. There is a switch behind the USB port that determines what is plugged into the port, and changes the port function appropriately.
MHL will output a digital signal, so if you hope to hook this up to a TV that doesn't have HDMI, you will also need a Digital-to-Analog Converter (DAC) in whatever Frankenstein contraption you are attempting to build.
It's probably easier to just pay the $15-20 to buy a ready-made MHL adapter.
EDIT: sounds like you expect the headphone jack to output video. It doesn't.

Hi all,
I'm constructing a heads up display using a pair of MyVu Crystals I have laying around. My problem is that I've only got an iPod connector cable and a standard RCA red, white, and yellow connector. There are HDMI to RCA cables on ebay but in order to use them without a converter, the signal over the HDMI port has to be analog.
Before I buy one, can anyone tell me if the HDMI port on the Photon is capable of outputting such a signal?
Many thanks!

HDMI to RCA cable will not work. I have tried it. I have also tried 3.5mm to RCA. My phone didnt like that and kept pulling up voice command. No display or sound at all on the tv I was trying to use.
Motorola sells an adapter (Motorla VGA Adapter $49.99) for the photon that plugs into the usb port and hdmi port simultaneously and it is says it converts HDMI to VGA to allow connection to projectors and older tv's. VGA is analog and the adapter requires no other power source. Should work if you went: MyVu>Ipod Cable>RCA TO VGA>MOTOROLA VGA ADAPTER>PHOTON.
Brilliant, I'll check that out and post the results later!
Many thanks.
I've also found this:

Think that might work? It's a fair bit cheaper than Moto's option. I just wonder about power as presumably that's what the usb port on the moto adaptor is for. On second thought, the Moto adaptor launches webtop which is likely what the USB is for. I'm thinking this HDMI one could work then? All I'm after is mirroring (largely for GPS nav).

Wow, awesome find! Only problem I can see is that you will need an micro hdmi to hdmi for it to fit the photon. You cant plug in the adapter and the access the usb port without muscling it. Might loosen up the sockets and thats no good. This one is better:
cant post link just search micro hdmi male to vga and youll find one same price range
Already has a micro hdmi end , no power supply required either. I am going to purchase this and try it out, I want to mirror my display on my 7 inch car stereo. Torque, netflix & Google navigation is going to look sick. There is no sound from this but you can run 3.5mm jack out.
Good one, didn't think to look for a micro ended one as I've already got an adaptor. I may go that way as well.
I'll make sure to pop a post up with my badass GPS driving microdisplay.
Ok, I ordered mine last night... sucks its coming from Hong Kong but Ill post up a video once I get it installed!
got the adapter.. hooked it up to a vga to rca out cable and plugged into an analog tv and got a flicker every now and then but no picture. Connected it to the Analog input on my LG 55inch LED and I get a scrolling picture in black and white only. Maybe you've got a problem with an unsupported resolution? RCA can only go up to 640x480 right? Is there any way we can force the mirroring resolution to go lower?
Yes, Mirror resolution.apk and some modding. Look in Hybrid rom thread, there is link for that.
