Foreign languages - HTC EVO 3D

Will foreign languages finally be standard on these android phones?
I've been rooting to add libs all the time especially for semitic languages like hebrew and arabic. Recently its been near impossible to do it on the evo after the 3.70 upgrade.
If google and htc want to really get global, or more global than apple, they seriously need to consider the fact that their market can extend further than the english language barrier that they are restricting themselves to.

As usual no opinions or posts on my rants of wanting arabic. Gosh. I'm at the bottom of the list.

yeah i know. cuz if someone had a little bit of info, there's no doubt that they would share it here. i love this website, the devs and the whole community. whatever knowledge they have, they are willing to spill it on the screen
on a side note. i believe that the lack of foreign fonts is more of a sense thing as opposed to a google thing.
so HTC step your game.

So just in case HTC monitors this, which I believe they do. I just want to let you know that this lack of foreign language support (spcifically semitic languages) is getting ridiculous. My main reason for buying HTC is for the ease of rooting (from the hero to the evo 4g to now the evo 3d.
adding arabic libs, when possible, is awesome sauce. I can follow the arab spring revolutions through my facebook and twitter apps. and the emails that are sent back and forth from back home, provided that the phone is "arabized," keep me updated on all of the current events going on.
now, there are 29 days for htc to unlock it and/or provide support for foreign languages or else i would have to consider them part of the regime. and as you all know, the people want the downfall of the regime. (bad joke, but if you've been following the mid east revolutions, then you'd understand)
even in my old evo 4g i was running 3.30 firmware (vaelpak 2.3) and couldn't upgrade to 3.70 firmware because of the lack of support in the libraries.jar portion of the nwe firmware. and since htc wont release source code.... i had to stay behind everyone else.
plus i like to sh-t on my i-douchebag friends and family of mine. and when they see my letters aren't "connected" and are NOT going from right to left, well then its +1 for iphone and -1 for HTC/google/me
so in conclusion, like i've stated in an earlier post. STOP RESTRICTING YOURSELF WITH THE LANGUAGE BARRIER.
I seriously dont get it. Just add foreign language support (especially for semitic languages). Whoever uses it... uses it. whoever doesn't... it doesn't hurt them. WTF?!?!?!
/rant

Arabic please..

how did you add the languages into the rom? im looking to get polish onto a stock rom

I'm quite puzzled by Motorola's lack of vision in unifying apps compatibility across it's range.
The fact that Xoom apps don't work outside of the US on MZ60x 's is just plain rude considering it has nothing to do with carrier/location/hardware limitations.
The Razr/Bionic/Atrix 2 have some great apps and should be available to all.
Something that intrigues me are both the SmartActions and MOTOCHAT.
A possible rival to RIM'S BBM should be a major deal and available on ALL MOTOs (along with motoprint, blur, etc).
As us outside the US are given almost no heed, I was wondering if any kind and enterprising souls could post all Motorola Mobility apks here.
Thanks for listening.

It's so they can produce incremental hardware upgrades while implementing in-demand software on each release, hence justifying (to themselves anyways) for overcharging consumers.

I've looked into porting SmartActions a few times and each time it just took me deeper and deeper into the Razr system only to end with bootloops. I really don't understand why we have 2.3.6 builds but they don't have the new Blur or SAs. I think it comes down to a lack interest by Moto. I kind of feel like our 2.3.5 and 2.3.6 builds were done built some employees free time, or while they were supposed to be doing something else.
That said, I'm very doubtful we'll see ICS. (Please don't turn this into an ICS thread)
I'll undoubtedly keep trying to get the new new Blur and SAs ported to our device, but that's probably because I crave disappointment.

Nottach, I'm highly programming illiterate,so I highly value any effort done by people like you.
It's sad that a device like the Atrix (with it's very current hardware) is now treated like a naughty stepchild despite it's flagship status 5 months ago and CES heroics.
Even the latest Kal-el SoC has just 1GB of RAM despite the quad cores, so even the most processor intensive apps should be covered.
And that's why Apple does so well.
Google/carriers/manufacturers need to keep promises and buck up.

And this is another thing that disheartens me. There's no doubt that Motorola does have some "bright" developers/engineers working for them but it seems that their main goal is to fragment their own ecosystem in an effort to persuade people into upgrading their devices at a higher rate while trying to confine you into their structure. Which can be said for pretty much anyone else like Apple and Microsoft but I feel Motorola does it more blatantly to the point where its more detrimental to the consumer rather than an inconvenience.

I'm starting to believe that Moto is merely a trend setter in this department. Samsung and HTC products refresh so quickly in Asia that 6 months seem to be the upgrade cycle (in a region where carriers offer no subsidies).

Here are a few Moto-apps (free,Android Market, modified for ALL DEVICES)
that may not be available to all countries.
The MOTOprint app is an earlier, free version.
I had nothing to do with these, just publicly available.
vlingo was not available outside the US.
Other apps not on worldwide Atrix's (MB/ME860) were Zumocast(!!!),
MotoLounge(Australia only) and Moto PIM sync.
Even the Webtop app is different!
As, usual,I had nothing to do with this attached app, just publicly available.
I apologize if I've derailed the point of your thread, sometimes I get all "99%" without realizing it. This is definitely a good topic and I hope more people look into making these apps/services cross-compatible.

No worries, i've been guilty of that in the past as well.
I've posted some cross-compatible apks for those who may not have 'em/

Here's a Zumocast that works well with my Archos 70S and Motorola MB511
Flipout and A855 Milestone/Droid.
Hhhmmm...
it now states that Motochat v01.03 is only supported by devices
with Android 2.3.7 (rather than 2.3 and above) to 3.2;since 2nd Jan 2012.
Is it impossible to make it work with 2.3.4 and above?
I also have some hilarious screens regarding the Atrix's "compatibilty" with Atrix-specific Apps. Granted apps are for the US version, but the eco-system should
allow us to download them anyway. Whether or not they work is up to us. (ala
International-market Droids, the A853 and XT720)
The "Certificate Updater" was really only an issue with the 4.1.83 build that had to do with the Atrix not being able to access mobile banking sites, and I think it was an US-only issue. That was still Froyo too. It has since been fixed with subsequent releases.

Understood, but Motorola Mobility have an awesome track record of incompatibility issues with their world-market devices; such as Android Market stating that the Droid-Flashlight app (ooh!) won't work with the Milestone A853 or even better,Moto-Pack FOR TABLETS not working with the MZ601/604.
It doesn't recognize overseas devices for the most part.
My previous phone, the MB511 was detected as a Defy MB525 for 2 months
before it said "Flipout" once market hit 2.2.7.
UK Market Atrix were only updated to 2.3.4 last week, and also had mobile-
banking bloatware courtesy of Orange.
Chinese "Shop4apps" specific apps i get, but this is too much.
Hence the thread, a way to unify all MB860/ME860 users.
I understand and I totally agree. You can ask anyone that knows me, I'm usually the first one in line if someone is throwing a "Motorola-Bashing" party.
It's quite frustrating and I have my theories, but they are usually border-line conspiracy theories. All in all, I feel there needs to be more petitions brought out against Motorola and other companies that decide to undertake these business practices and marketing that are disadvantageous to the end user.
We are the 99%! (sorry, got carried away again)
But from the other end of the spectrum, consumers need to take the time to educate themselves on products and whether there is going to be a mutual ascension in compatibility and, thus, make better purchasing decisions that would pressure companies into providing a more consistent platform.
EDIT: To elaborate even further, HTC did well being consistent (profits soared) with Sense until they got carried away and tried to maximize even further with incremental (and ultimately fragmented) developments in their lineup and now they are starting to come down to earth. Now Samsung is on top with their Galaxy "S" line but now I see them trying to diversify their lineup with "M" and "W", etc etc, series and I see them flattening out soon.

....and here's the RICH LOCATION app.
"Garbage" according to some, but i think it's incredibly useful and
forward thinking.
It uses your phone's location services to determine where you are IN ANY CITY
and lists services/promotions/places of interest within a predetermined radius.
Extra services include Yelp! plus the usual listed businesses.
Well done to the devs.
By the way: the Rich Location app has been renamed to Social Location. You may find it under this new name on the Atrix 4G. There are some countries that this app will not come installed by default, though. As you mentioned that you used Rich Location in the past, I assume that the app is available in your area.

Doubt were going to see official
lol that's not official at all! silly customer service reps.
Well at least we can confirm that the HTC One X and EVO 4G LTE have been impounded by customs here in the US and are no longer for sale..... Thanks to Apple, so HTC ain't making a lot of people happy this month.
And this quote "This is because this update is not compatible with this device. HTC has tested this update extensively on the HTC Flyer and can confirm that this device is not capable of running this update. "
..............is straight out the Google / Vendor Android support agreement
Yeah the one where Google tried to force all the vendors to support with updates for 18 months. No vendor would sign up to that, so they inserted this escape clause in the agreement. 18 months IF THE DEVICE IS COMPATIBLE with the update.
HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA LOL LOLLOOLLLLLL extensive testing my A$$.....
HTC's testing amounted to "does this make us money? ...NO, , OK it's not compatible then !!"
The least they could do is to release the source code of whatever build (if any) they have been testing Flyer with, to the community!!
Incompatible with ICS..that is complete bulls***..we had a very similar response from Samsung when we asked for GB update for Galaxy 3 (my current phone). Thanks to a very active developer community here on XDA, we have not only multiple GB ROMs (including CM 7.2) but also ICS now..hope something similar happens to Flyer..screw HTC!

Even if the CSR knows nothing, what's been said before still applies. If HTC considered updating the Flyer to ICS, we would have seen leaked ROMs or at lease some leaked shots or videos of the device running it.
That being said, I highly doubt HTC plans any updates for us.

Actually, that's not quite true. While they may not be part of the decision-making process, someone in HTC management drafted a response for the reps communicating with customers. This is the information that has been approved to share outside the company by this person. Someone is Legal or PR may have more information, but techs and CSRs only have what management gives them.

Yeah the one where Google tried to force all the vendors to support with updates for 18 months. No vendor would sign up to that, so they inserted this escape clause in the agreement. 18 months unless THE MANUFACTURE DETERMINES THAT THE DEVICE IS NOT COMPATIBLE with the update.
It doesn't matter anyway, any update we get will just be slow, laggy, and buggy. It would be nice for developers but then again the hc update was so bad developers couldn't fix it either so yeah it doesn't matter.
Anyway I say the csr doesn't know what he's talking about because this is the third different thing they've said recently. They told me on Facebook that they are still evaluating, they told another member August, and they told the op its not compatible. Who's actually giving the right answer?

A honeycomb minor upgrade for the current bugs would be much better and more probable if many users mention the GPS issue since it's important. This update might bring other minor bugs if demanded a fix for the Current honeycomb.

I think it would be the better option. An ics update would just be rushed and buggy. Fixing honeycomb would do more good. It's more than just Gps, honeycomb runs slower, and uses more battery. I don't care about hardware buttons though, honeycomb isn't designed to use them anyway and I prefer the virtual buttons as they are better placed.

I need to make an app but I don't know where to start

Hey everyone, this is my first time here cause I almost spend all my time in the roms threads and stuff. Anyway, I'm gonna go straight to the point.
The thing is that I want to make a free APP for my company (which isn't any big, but it's mine) but I don't really know where to start.
The idea I have is not very complicated as far as I know, cause what I have in mind is basically a shared agenda attached to a calculator.
Let me explain: I'm a Wedding Planner, and the thing is that I have the couples busy all the time with meetings with providers and stuff, and also I have to be checking the couple's overall money for the whole period between the contract and the marriage.
So what I need to do is an agenda that can be shared with someone else (in this case, me and the couples) with appointments and stuff, and also I need it to have the capability to calculate the couple's budget. So if they spend money in something, we can put that spending in the whole budger, so they would have a clear statement between both parts about where is their money going, and how much will they have at certain point in order so they can have their right amount to spend more or less in something else.
Then I can add simple things like "contact us", Twitter, Facebook feedback and blabla, but the main function is the one I can't do.
I've tried "app builders" but they have just basic options which don't let me dig in more to modify something cause they don't give you the source code.
I'm good at modifing code, but I don't know a single thing about creating from scratch.
Can I get a hand with this?
Thanks guys.
Questions should be asked in Q&A forums, not development forums.

I think you kinda answered your own question really... unless you can find something very close to what you want, you'll have to learn how to create from scratch.
If that hasn't put you off, I'd recommend that you don't go near a phone to start with. Pick just one or two features that your app will need.
Write something standalone that provides that functionality as a Java console application.
Once you have that working, you can start to figure out how to turn it into an app. For that you can probably start with one of the examples that come with the development kit (for instance, a menu example)

Distinguished leaders marketing HTC,

Indeed, the Flyer is your only so far shelf and it will not be entitled to benefit from last improvements in google.
We do not understand your approach knowing that this product has one year old! From a customer relations standpoint, it is totally outrageous.

People...HTC is not obligated to provide us anything besides basic hardware/software support. They are not required to give us a upgrade, heck they aren't even required to give us bugfixes. When you buy a tablet or phone you are buying it with the current software load, meaning you need to make sure you are happy with what it runs and how it runs. Can we PLEASE stop beating this horse?

Hello,
It's your perspective and you've made, it is!
This is not the generality of people who think that, already after just seven months of existence, it simply removes purtement and the evolution of the tablet, this is not normal.
They are not obliged to provide it to us for free, okay, at least that we are proposing an alternative to évolution.
Knowing that the products were sold frozen and for the typical person, not necessarily easy to change OS as two shirts!
If you can afford to buy every two weeks, good for you and too bad for us ...

@thewadegeek:
As far as I recall, there is some kind of agreement between Google and the main manufacturers to give proper support/updates for products for at least 18 months after its initial release.
Now, as the HTC Flyer has been released < the mentioned 18 months I expect HTC to honor that agreement.
And please do not forget that the HC update was rubish and should not be called an update but a downgrade (as some features do not work (as well) as they did before).
If you would own a car, and for some reason they upgraded some kind of software @ the garage which resulted in non functioning blinkers/signal lights and you had to put your hand out of the the window everytime you are about to switch lanes or make a turn in order to warn the other drivers about your actions, would you accept that? I WANT MY HARDWARE BUTTONS BACK!!!

Everyone is free to make his voice heard and if you don't like topics like this one, than please .. by all means .. stay out.

First off I LIKED the upgrade, so you can't make a blanket statement calling it rubbish. The pen support with Honeycomb is pretty slick and I enjoy it. Second that's not a valid comparison, in that case they removed REQUIRED functionality, in this case they just replaced it with something else. And if you want your hardware buttons back then downgrade, or install Lee's Honeycomb. Viola. Your last statement is TOTALLY contradictory friend, first you says we can all make our voice heard, and then you tell me to stay out. Also the purpose of a forum is for discussion, you all seem to just want people to agree with you. I'm just getting tired with everyone starting a new petition or "HTC sucks" thread. If you feel betrayed then deal with it, HTC has done nothing legally wrong so everyone is stuck.
What are we talking about? What in the world is a SHIFT Flyer Ics? Is this a petition to ship Flyers with Need for Speed SHIFT on them? I'm confused

Lol. ( its just Google translate)
To all:
Something is not happening right. We are arguing on wrong issues. Some points I noticed and I would like to emphasise upon are:
1. Yeah they gave us honeycomb. But its not perfect. Chiefly the internet browsing experience. Internet is the soul of computers, tablets, smart phones, ipads etc. and we need a solid browser to experience it, which is not there. It leaves a lot to be desired considering:
a. Flyer has 1gb ram, a powerful processor, 1 GB system ROM, Enough Internal Memory
b. Initially it was sold for exorbitant price (700$+, though mine 32 gb, 3g cost $390)
c. It was told by Google about an year back that all devices should be supported till 18 months.
Yeah, flyer has beautiful features like pen, hd cams, srs, mhl out, brilliant screen, top battery. But it lacks a solid browsing experience. In my view what the majority of us want is a solid browsing experience. Now that comes with a HC update or ICS update will not matter to me.
Many people are talking of broken GPS. If its really broken, then its HTC's duty to repair it, not the developers'. If its not broken, we should forget about this issue. Now if someone says it requires just a change in config file to repair it, I agree to it but this small repair forces you to root and risk bricking.
On another note of doctorlirio campaign: he should not have raised the issue of GSM calls with HTC. HTC didn't give us calling functionality, xda did.
So, why we are always wanting better? Because it has become our need and habit to stay ahead and overcome the weaknesses of our devices. We can't stand any weakness in our devices. And for me, a solid browsing experience is my primary need where my flyer doesn't satisfy me fully. Whether its HTC or developers, we always want better for our devices.
( though opera mobile works a little better in browsing, but sometimes ( may be often) it also fails to function perfectly on high load web pages.)
Lastly, I feel that, its a little too late now for us to keep chasing HTC. ( though HTC is to blame for a weak internet browsing experience and those who paid exorbitant sums for buying this are even more right in blaming htc)

I came to that conclusion today about Web browsing actually. I wanted something that would be as useful as a laptop and Web browsing has never been stellar on it. And the best Android Web browser isn't available on it!
Senseless helps with browsing big time but unfortunately I still find myself grabbing the laptop and getting frustrated with the browser when I need to get something done.
As for everything else its perfect but the one thing I bought it for is its greatest weakness. I didn't buy it expecting any update, but I was hoping we'd get ics to fix the Web browsing. Web browsing is fully gpu accelerated in ics and my phone whether I'm running chrome or the stock htc browser is pc quality. The flyer is more akin to my old captivate.
Firefox might be the answer if they ever optimize it for tablets

Petiton HTC to release the source code for 3D and 4G

Hi all!
I started a NEW petition at avaaz to get the 4g and 3d source released. I know this has been tried before, but avaaz has much better ToS and more users worldwide so it may get more votes than the petition at change .com did.
Please sign the petition and share the word afterwards on fb, twitter or with email!
Link: http://www.avaaz.org/en/petition/HTC_release_the_source_code_for_4G_and_3D/
First if anybody wants to alter the petition in any way (edit text, pic), let me know as I can edit it. We must do something now or we may never get the source.
It has a goal of 100. That seems pretty insignificant to matter...

Actually, it has pretty much 'infinite' goal. LOL. After 100 have signed the goal should change to 500 as far as i know. Peace
I'm pretty sure a petition isn't going to make HTC release its source, but nice try!
I feel a more effective way is to continually bombard their support with requests for it to be released with very good arguments why they should. A petition is easy to throw into a stack of papers and be forgotten, constant reminders that there is a demand for the source gets more notice.

No harm in it so I've signed. Going to hammer their support through Twitter etc too cos both methods get noticed. Can't afford another phone for ages yet so would be a cool novelty to get 3D working, I'm sure there's developers who want it working too. agrabren has said he wants it so IF we get the code our phones will remain relevant for much longer
3d is in their power but they can't release it for 4g because that's completely up to sprint, its a sprint proprietary driver so you would need to petition sprint for it but 3d is possible from htc.
Signed! GL 2 us ALL
What if we all send them e-mails !!!!
Haha, I think that would totally piss them off but we can do this. Lets create a good example message and put the link to the htcdev email form next to it. That way we dont need to waste our time because the message is the same anyway. Then lets just spam them till they give up or set up a spam filter sounds lika a good idea indeed
I deleted this post
Okay, after mailing htc for a few days, they said it was being worked on and that we will get it in the (unforeseeable) future and when the source is released we could enjoy our phones even more. (I hope they didn't lie )) i will send them mails every day lol, ;P
Also is there some way i could totally delete a post i made ? ? ? ?
