I have been told that Cyanogen Mod7 is only for HTC devices, so it won't work on my Motorola Defy, yet I see people posting various things and somewhere in what they say they mention they are running CM7. So my question is...can I run Cyanogen mod 7 on my Motorola Defy? If so could you please point me to a thread talking about how to do so or explane it here.

Just got CM7 on GF's Defy. Works very well, cant wait to see RC1.
I've installed CM7 and it is great.I only wander who can I loss the vibrations during the call?
i got only problems with calls when:
register sip accounts
turn on the internet (wifi or another)
use sip account to call - i got error on frist try, but in seccond, it´s works
after use sip acconts to make a call i dont have sucess to complete another calls using the normal calls, to complete i need turn of and turn on again the phone.. sometimes reboot does not make effect

Goto Menu -> settings -> call settings
Uncheck Vibrate every 45 seconds, and other options as you wish.
I have been using heroc for quite a while and had rooted it. Installed cm6, cm7, and aosp gb on it.
Now moved to defy and loving it. However there is no official froyo update in my country. I am looking to upgrade to one of the gb roms. However i want to still have warranty on my device. Is there a way to backup so that i can revert back in case anything goes wrong.

As this mod is derived from CM, most of the things (I think all) work properly, including wifi, bluetooth and everything else. If anyone finds any bugs or something wrong with the rom, please post it below.
How to install
=========
First root your phone using this method or this method.
Then put the zip file in your sd card and go to clockwork recovery. Then just install the zip file as you would do with every other rom.
If you dont get what i am saying, check this.
This rom asks you which launcher to use in the first boot, check the "Make Default" button and select the launcher of your choice, either launcherpro or default stock froyo launcher. I recomment launcherpro as it is really smooth and has no lags at all (i am using the same). And BTW, if you plan on using stock launcher and no longer want launcherpro on ur system, simply go to manage apps in settings and remove launcherpro as usual (yes, you can remove it). I havent dared to remove the awesome cyanogenmod settings menu because of its cool features and lots of additional functionalities. And the cyanogenmod wallpapers are intact as well.
How to make it look like the one in screenshot

First choose launcherpro at first boot and make it default.
then go to launcherpro settings (press menu on launcher and choose preferences) and appearance and change the dock's look to froyo wide
Then go back to launcher and long press the screen, and choose wallpaper, and go to cyanogenmod wallpapers and choose the wallpaper as shown in the screenshot.
Then arrange the icons in the same way and you are ready to go.
Enjoy Gingerbread Keyboard And The New Android Market With Lots Of Improvements.

Wifi works - try reflashing it. Did you do a factory reset before flashing this rom? At minimum, clear your cache.
Using the headphones that came with this phone only works on the stock rom since it was a proprietary thing T Mobile did - why do people keep nagging about this issue?
Wifi tether isn't built into a rom. It a function but must be accesed by an .apk file. Download the latest wifi tether apk (2.0.5 rc1) and install it. BAM! wifi tethering in the palm of your hand.

I am not sure about the default headphones given by tmobile, as i am using other ones, but in my guess, they should work. (Sorry i couldn't be more specific )

Thanks kisstheskye, i know some people dont want those apps and some want, but i targeted those who dont want any other softwares than the default ones, as the others who wanted can easily install the apps from the market. Cheers!

Thats strange, did you complete wipe the phone and cleared all the caches?
WiFi worked properly in the few mytouch slide's i tested the rom, and wifi tethering isnt inbuilt, but you can always download it and install it. And about the headphones, tmobile made the headphones to not work with anything other than the stock rom, sorry for that.

This is basically a CM6 clone, there's no reason for wifi not to work.

There's a good Tethering apk in this forum somewhere. You might need to go back a few pages, but you'll find it. :]
ALSO, yo OP, could you please push the Torchlight back onto the ROM in a future release? Torch is always fantastic...
I can confirm the following problems with FreeX10-Bet4:
Battery drains incredibly fast, but not always. Yesterday morning the phone got hot and I could almost see battery indicator drop. However, in the afternoon, after a reboot and once I have charged the phone, it was not that bad. At least not hot. No change of apps, environment, whatever.
Problems with BT headset. At least with mediasound. Sometimes the headset connects but most often not. The phone indicates the headset is connected (both phone and media) but mediasound goes to the loudspeaker.
(I have to post this thread since I'm not yet allowed to post to the development thread. The new policy, sorry for this.....)

You are not the only one with this problems.. so you didn't have to make a thread for this. Read the official thread and find the answers there
I did read the official developer link and I did not really ask for help on this . My intention was to add some more info for troubleshooting, since I did not find anyone else stating problem vary over time. Since I work with system development myself I normally find all additional info on problems interesting since this could help me pinpointing the root cause.
Maybe XDA should consider open special threads just to report problems and not asking specifically for support. Now everything is mixed up, and this must be quite frustrating for the ones actually working with ROM development.

I have some trouble with the audio through the headphone jack. The sound is kind of broken like a wrong DSP filter is set.
3G WatchDog does not count the traffic for each app but I am not sure if thats a problem of FreeX10 or 3G WatchDog himself.
I am still stuck on the old market app Version 1.82 and I am unable to do an update. ok, I am now at 2.2.6

Please excuse my Japanglish, as well.
I had a perfectly working X10i, and installed FreeX10 Beta4. I preferred stock 2.1 rom so I tried to restore the back up I createded Xrecovery. Then it went something wrong, and I get this endless "force close" message saying system failed starting when I start up. So I cannot get to the programs now which can restore the system. No matter how many times I reboot it is same. Is my phone so called "Bricked"? Is there any way I can start restoring program by pushing bottoms when I boot up before Free X10 kicks in? This is a really costly error.

This is a possible fix for the wi-fi issues that plagues some users that use CM7. Well thanks to a great guy, ASASlide, a fix has been found. This is his steps.
1. Download the Salsa Slide Beta rom (4.0 has worked best for me).
2. Download the cm7 rom of choice (I'm on ver 133 of the nightlies currently).
3. Open each rom zip file in separate windows with your favorite zip file manager.
4. Navigate in each window to /system/etc/wifi. You will notice the cm7 directory has fewer files, plus a subdirectory called "softap".
5. Notice the files in the cm7 wifi directory. Overwrite all of these with the files of the same names from the Salsa Slide Beta window.
6. In the cm7 window, now navigate into the "softap" directory.
7. Notice the files in the cm7 softap directory. Overwrite these with the files of the same names from the Salsa Slide Beta window.
8. Save the modified cm7 zip file, and flash to the Slide.
You will have to repeat the process for each new cm7 version you want to flash.
Same disclaimer as usual. No one is responsible if your phone dies.
If this thread is a nuisance or you want to make new people to look through tons of posts on the nightly thread, please PM me, I will tell a mod to remove this thread right away.

I get that all the time when I flash a new nightly. Well I flashed a new nightly when I first tried the fix.
Also I'm in the process of making an update.zip for the fix. Just testing it out to see if I actually got the update-script right
Can't flash it in ClockworkMod v.3.0.0.5. I signed it using Amend scripting and now with edify scripting. Help?
EDIT: Ok so I put the update.zip for ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.7 and ran that from ClockworkMod v3.0.0.5. I flashed the zip but got an error

I think GPS in CM7 is the bigger problem for me. Wifi is ok, maybe a little bit worse than other ROM like Salsa Slide, but acceptable. I am looking for a GPS fix for CM7 but thanks anyway for the efforts with this fix.

I found the mistake in my update-script.... I PUT "COY" INSTEAD OF "COPY". ALL CAPS RAGE!!1111!!ELEVEN1!!

Thanks, remember to thank ASASlide as well. He found this fix. I just messed up making a flashable zip
Only problem I found is that I can't do the built in android wifi tether (the one in wireless settings)
Can anyone confirm this? Also I need some feedback to see if other wireless tether apps work (like barnacle and wifi tether for root)
EDIT: wifi tether for root works for me. I tried 2.0.8 pre1 and it worked. I didn't try the new 3.1 beta

I downloaded wifi tether for root and it does not work for me. What settings are you using?
Come to think of it, this makes sense. Wifi tether doesn't work on salsa either.
Edited to add, I am testing something out. For the record, I am playing around with the stable 7.1. I did the gps "fix" from the other thread and this wireless fix.
With the wifi folder you provided, I experimented and saw that keeping the files you used, but bringing back the softap folder and its files from the CM7 folder brought back the wifi tether. At first my wireless seemed buggy again. I rebooted and now it seems fine again. I am currently watching netflix on the phone using wireless and it hasn't stopped once, which it was doing constantly just the other day. I'll update my experiments.

This is not a stable release that you can use daily! there are things that misbehave or do not work at all! Use this to test ICS and play with it, but do not use if you depend on your mobile. I have been missing some calls without my phone even ringing... other than that, Calendar sync does not work and there are small glitches here and there. The biggest problem: those missed calls
Some reported getting kernel panics and FCs, bu I have gone from KL1 to this back and courts at least 10 times without any issues, but again this is just an alpha from Samsung and since 4.0.3 sources are out, we can probably expect more new stuff to come this way.
Flash through CWM
If any issues after flash, reboot to recovery, wipe data and ref lash the ROM.
To remove the red border, Open Dev Tools -> Development Settings and set "StrictMode visual indicator: off" then reboot

Don't know about calling, but camera is hit or miss. Mostly broken, but can work.

camera works... but you have to wait decent time for Media Scan to finish (and there is no indication anywhere that it's running) and same goes for Gallery
usb sharing? you mean to mount your phone as a drive to your PC? then go to Settings -> More -> USB settings and you'll see the options there

how does that make a difference, KP2 has only been out an hour! you need at least a day to work out how battery is

it's great, but sometimes some service hangs and your battery get's drained really fast. If you keep track, a reboot fixes it

I have flashed my sgs2 with hyperdroid v6 and i have some things that dont work.
1. The volyme on viber and skype is verry low.
2. The tone before someone answers on a regular call is also low
3. I cant download mms. Have dowloaded settings from my phone company but it dosnt work anyway. Someone else with this problems?
Why don't you just flash a decent ROM that works instead? Plenty out there that do work
