Out of memory problem......solved!! - Dell Venue

Everything about my Dell Venue is fine except one big problem... after a while the memory will get low and even though I uninstall everything it will continue the problem until I reset the phone back to factory default.....which is bad......
Recently I found out that by using Root Explorer and delete /data/systemlog/ XXX.log(or folder inside) can save a lot of memory! What I did is keeping only up to recent month's log and delete the rest (I think don't even need the recent month just to be safe...) I have got 250MB memory back!!! It is more than half! ...any way now my Venue runs great and have no problem.
This way seems the only way to solve memory low problem, I hope it is a dell problem not the Android one. For someone knows please share....Thanks!

Thanks. I had done a factory reset too to get my data back. It worked but I did notice that I was losing internal memory again even though most of my apps were going to the SD card. Your solution works! I have gained back almost 100 MB. I didn't have this problem on my Dell Streak so I'm thinking this must be a Venue problem. I was using DJ Steve's froyo ROM though too.

Thanks, at last i've got my memory back. Luckily i found this post before i do the factory reset

I found nothing in this folder, even sub-folders do not exist. I chose Log to SD Card to prevent log files to eat ROM. However, my ROM keeps reducing. Please advice.

Did you root your Dell? Use root explorer search *.log may be you will find it...

Is it safe to delete anything with the .log extension in the systemlog folder?

Yes... its safe.... but it will be better if you don't delete last 3 folders (eg.110914_132252, kwakelock, wakelock,) and files in systemlog folder...

[Q] Miui- move Data to SD Card message

I keep getting this annoying pop-up message at boot about moving data to the external SD card. When I looked into this the solution is to...
"in root explorer, go into /data/sdcard/
either move all files inside this folder to your /sdcard/ folder (the one not inside /data), or delete them entirely."
However, this will work for a week or so but then the message will return and I will have to repeat the previous process. It's not that big of a deal, but, it is annoying. Especially since I have no room on my External SD anyways... Does anybody know how to permanently solve this issue?
No one...?
hmm odd, i haven't seen this issue myself. wish i had an answer for yah
I have that issue but didnt know the (temp) fix until now. Thanks.
I am just having this issue on Huawei Ideos X5 (u8800).
I don't have an external sd card and I think it WANTS me to have one and somehow is confused...
This hasn't happened to me in a while. But when it did I usually did 1 of 2 things...
1. Try the steps for the temp. fix above in the OP.
2. Just click "yes" when the popup occurs. I've found it actually doesn't put a single thing on the external SD card.

That used to happen to me alot! It was almost like everytime the phone rebooted or anytime I disconnected it from my PC if I had been transferring files. I think at the time I was running the MIUI "SS" or "ReVaMpEd" ROMs from 360. Ever since I flashed the MIUI-SGSII 360 ROM, I haven't seen that again. I never found a fix when I saw it usually I just ignored it, it was more of an inconvenience than anything.
Good luck!

I guess it has something to do with mount instructions given from rom.
I tried putting # in front of ro.etc etc etc *stuff*.additional.mounts=/mnt/emmc but same thing happens.
sd message
Hi, i have a huawei u8800 and was getting this message, i fixed it by removing all the files from my internal sd card(which i do not use) - /mnt/emmc
it has not come back yet
^ Hmmm, thats interesting. Never tried that method... Lol. I'm supprised people still are even having this issue though. I haven't had it in ages... or 4 months... Anyways the solution I put in the OP works to solve it and I found another method that I put in the FAQ of my miui guide (link in signature and it's stickied in the Q&A of the Vibrant forum). But never heard one about deleting the emmc folder.

Big Problem: Infinite Reboot when Apps installed in SD Card

==== Update 20120215 ==========
It seems Galaxy Note also has this problem.
jager13 has posted this issue in code.google.com, so please anyone with this issue comment there so that google devs can know about it and fix it!
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=25563
==========================
I believe that many of us (if not all) should have this problem.
I got so many apps installed, so many of them are installed in SD Card automatically by Android or I manually moved them to SD Card.
(In total I have ~650 app elements in Titanium Backup and keep growing depending on what I have installed or haven't restored at any given point)
The problem is since I updated from 2.3.4 to version >= 2.3.5 even to ICS 4.0.3 LP2, LP6, LPB, LPH.
Problem:
- Power On then phone will reboot after some 2-5 minutes idle and again reboot infinitely so I cannot use my phone at all.
- If I removed my external SD Card, no more reboot.
- Or if I delete some amount of .asec files in ".android_secure" folder (where the app in sd card is saved) in the external SD Card no more reboot.
- And yes, I have done many (if not all) imaginable things: re-flash, factory reset, wipe cache, fix permission, change SD Card, reinstall from market...
- And no, this is not specific SD Card problem.
There is older thread talking about this problem but the thread is about general reboot problem so it got mixed with other kind of reboot.
After trying ICS leaks in a hope that the problem is fixed I find that it is still NOT fixed
and maybe won't be fixed if not enough people complain about this problem.
And I think Samsung developers and QA don't know this issue.
It will be shame if SGS3 still has this problem. I absolutely won't buy it.
So to check this, I hope the reader of this thread to try this (Samsung based ROM > 2.3.4 only):
- Please move as many apps as you can or all of your apps to SD Card..
- Or please install as many apps as you can from market and moved them to SD Card if not already.
- The apps number is not exact (60 maybe more), more is better, maybe related with apps size too.
(I found that when my ".android_secure" folder size in external sd card approaching ~1.5GB maybe more, the reboot problem occurs)
- And then tell here that you have infinite reboot or not in idle mode 2-5 minutes after power on. Please try 2-3 times.
- Also post your ROM/kernel version, stock or mods.
- And please check that removing the external SD Card solve the reboot problem.
Remember that u have to be at least Samsung based ROM version 2.3.5 because this problem is side effect (2.3.4 and earlier does not have this problem).
For us who has this problem, please add your post to this thread to keep it alive
and don't forget to rate high so it will get attention from other users and hopefully from Samsung.
Let's make this issue known to Samsung.
And I hope that people who got firmware leaks from Samsung can tell them about this problem/thread.

i faced exactly same problem with you, i thought is sd card problem at 1st, so i go and buy a new sd card, and the problem is still there....anyone can help us? now the sd card = nothing
Tried to replicate this problem by putting 67 apps onto sd card, but no bootloops.
On CM9 at the moment.
No issue here..

So it seems that this problem happens only in Samsung based ROM.
It is great that CM9 does not have this issue.

May I know which ROM/kernel u use?
Are u using Samsung based ROM > 2.3.4?
I have this bad problem. I posted about this problem on old topics and how to remove this problem by return to old firmware with android 2.3.4.
Thank you for opening this thread because It is I think a general problem and the big problem that its happened with ICS. I tried and tried to solve this problem without success but I found that this problem start faster after transfer small size apps.
This problem must be solved, because we need to transfer apps to SD card.
Thanks again dragon135
i can confirm i am another user who had no issues at 2.3.4 upgraded to ICS LP2 this evening and now have this problem! not cool....
Ok flashed lp6 and so far so good

I have had the same problem with the following Samsung Android versions:
2.3.5
2.3.6
I have a SGH-I777 (AT&T Galaxy S II).
I have tried several class 4 and a new class 10 made by Samsung. Same results.
After using App2SD and after moving several apps to SD, the device will eventually reboot right after the SD scan completes.
Removing the SD is the only way to fix this. You can reformat the SD card but the problem will eventually occur when you move several apps to the SD card again. I have been unable to identify a particular app that triggers this reboot.
i have the same problem with my lg o2x. no solution??
exactly the same issue with my Captivate
I moved more than 100 APPs to SD recently. It worked fine with Froyo. The only problem I had is the icon disappearing issue. After switching to GO launcher, everything worked fine. Today I upgrade my phone to GB (KK4, 2.3.5), and started to have the same problem. I have to unmount my SD card to keep my phone away from rebooting. With my wife's card, only data on it, my phone had no issue. Once I put my card back, it starts again.
I can confirm. This issue exists and NOT just samsung firmware. i had the same issue running MIUI. When there are too many apps (my count is 264 apps) the phone will boot, the back of the phone will get really hot and then within 2-3 minutes of booting reboot again to the same unlock or home page screen. And it will keep doing it until your battery is dead. it also drains the battery like crazy!!!
Seriously wtf?
Is there a way to move those APPs back to phone? This is really annoying.

yes, just cut some .asec-files (as many as it needs) from the .android_secure folder an paste them into another folder, so that the phone won´t reboot anymore.
the apps according to the .asec files now won´t be shown in appdrawer.
than you install gemini app manager and move the smallest (if you have not much space on phone) or just some other apps you want back to phonememory. after that you can put the .asec files back in to the android_secure folder, so that those apps appear again in app drawer.
if phone still reboots: same precedure.
like others wrote, and my own experience: abourt 50 files in android_secure folder is ok, more: reboots.
or if you have backups from your apps in titanium:
put sd card in pc. delete all the small asec files, so that in android_secure folder remain only the biggest files. and not more than 50 files.
better only 40. than your phone should work again and you can restore those small apps with titanium, but before that, you tell titanium only to restore into internal memory.
this helps for me. but i really wouldlike to be able to install more apps an sd card! nobody??

As requested I also have this issue.
Seriously considering the downgrade to 2.3.4 despite the aggravation it will cause me.
I transfered all of them to my laptop first and then moved them back ~20 APPs at a time. But then I got the 'phone storage space is getting low' error. Trying to fix it eventually led to a 'factory reset'. I don't have backup for all of the APPs. Without all those junks the phone was very smooth and stable. Once I restored a few APPs and moved them to SD card, I was hit by random shut-down issue but no reboot yet. Finally I figured out why my phone went to sleep almost every night with me. LOL. It happened just after I moved most of my APPs to SD. WTF.

[Q] [Help] it is really weirdly weird!

I'm currently using sgs2 with stock gingerbread.
My problem is, my phone seems to be locked on a specific state dated march 3rd 2013.
whenever i format usb storage or reboot my phone, it always back the way it was
e.g. when i tried to un/install apps or deleting files (succesfully), and then i rebooted it, the apps or files are still there such way unharmed.
i remember its somewhat like deep frezee. but usually, something like this only works on settings right?
its really nonsense when i deleted 8 gigs of file then i do a format/reboot, the 8 gigs files came up again like nothing has happened.
Already tried factory reset and unchecked restore backup settings.
Never faced something like this before, help is much appreciated
Sound like a problem with the rom, best thing you can do is backup everything (data) and do a complete wipe through recovery and flash a clean rom again. Very strange but have never (in all my experiece of IT etc) come across stuck dates and data that wont dissapear.
Edit: maybe this is a damaged or corrupt filing system? Still, the fix for tha would to be a complete format.

before this, a had an issue with the sd card, it suddenly went corrupt and cant be read anywhere. maybe this is one of the factors too?
i do planned reflashing it with jelly bean, but i'm still curios what has caused this so i can prevent and understand the problem..
my phone cant make new memories as well, new files are nowhere to be found after reboot.
thanks for the reply jl10101
btw this reminds me of memento

Help please! Images not working

Hello,
Ive recently been having a really annoying flaw with my system, i'm still unable to identify if my phone has caught some form of a virus or if theres something thats changed and not allowing my phone to function correctly.
Please be patient as i have a bit to explain in order to give you guys the full picture of my problem so that it can hopefully be fixed.
Ok so initially everything was working fine and there was no problems. I personally believe but i may be wrong the problem started when i downloaded ttorrent pro apk via a google link and inadvertently provided the installed app with much more access to my phone that was required. Having realized that the app was incorrect i immediately removed it from my phone using titanium backup. i also removed all data and cache at the same time.
So i took some photos whilst on my cousins stag in Barcelona a short time ago and the images were taken whilst i was on 4.2.1, but once i came home and collaborated my photo's and videos with a couple from the stag (they were using the s4) the images became corrupt. I had a full backup of these images on my Mac and they are all ok and can be viewed with no difficulty. The problem arises when i put the folder back onto my android device. Since i have tried a few method to fix this issue but to no avail. All virus check on both the phone and the folder of photos on my mac came back all clear.
The photo's are stored on my External SD Card which is brand new and seems to work fine. This Ex SD Card is not the same as the one i used on the stag(it broke and i purchased a new one since). I often found sometimes that the folder names were changing aswell in the External SD Card, for example i would import 7 folders which all contained images. after a short while, 3 of them would corrupt and the folder name would change to eg. ulbum. With the u being the u from utorrent.
The thing is the images are there to be seen in my files on the android but with no thumbnail and the images do not load. But some of the images in the same folder to seem to work. Ive tried using alternative galleries to see if this fixes the issue but it didnt seem to work. It really frustrating as ive tried so many method and got so many people involved.
Please provide me with some further suggestions because i cant seem to find anyone with the exact same problem.
Thank You in advance
Factory reset, format your SD card (with SD tool) and try again - without transferring anything from your PC. If everything works at that point then probably a virus or SD corruption.
If still the same then flash a fresh stock ROM with Odin, don't use the SD initally to prove the hardware isn't faulty.
Also check your phone bill, warez has a habit of dialling premium rate lines in China for days on end. Never install anything to found on google, if you can't find it on XDA then it probably isn't legit.

Thank You for your quick response. I've done a factory since the problem, flashing back an omega rom on my device. The problem still continued. The photo's can be viewed fine on my Mac...it seems to happen when i move them over to my phone as shown in the pictures in the top post.
I've run a scan on the images on my Mac and it came back all clear. Originally this whole corruption was apparent with one main folder which was of a stag do last month. Since my most recent attempt a further folder is no longer working. This was a album taken over a year ago on my iphone. The videos however from my album last month have started worked :S
This is all abit strange as ive taken a set of photos with the camera app and they dont seem to become corrupt. But ive put the images on a friends SD Card and put that in my phone and it seems to happen to that album aswell. Is there a further internal root which may have become infected and making this happen by targeting certain pic's/albums in my gallery.
My friend is adamant the photo's have become corrupt but they work perfectly on my MAC.
Ive formatted this SD Card on atleast 10 different occassions aswell.
If your phone was rooted then yes, system partition can be changed by virus. Flash a stock ROM with Odin and format the SD.

I agree with your friend. Your pictures must be corrupted or the filesystem on your external SDCard is corrupted too.
Try to copy all your files into a safe place (your Mac HDD) and verify that all files are done.
After, format this ExtSDCard (with the phone for example) et refill the SDCard. Check if I solve the problem.

[Q] Low Storage

At the moment I'm on the original stock rom, rooted, and i keep getting the low storage warning, but i don't even have very many apps on the phone. I've deleted much of verizons bloat, at least anything i see as safe and dont use, but it still keeps popping up, I havent tried a different rom yet, but plan on it, just havent been able to get a nandroid to stick and work right yet for some reason, but working on it at the moment. Does anyone find that any particular roms help more with the memory issue than others? I had the 16gb s3 and never had this problem. Ive looked for ways to put apps to the sd but havent found any yet unless im missing something. Does anyone have any tips on the best way to work around this? Ive gone through the entire internal storage and there doesn't even seem to be much on it. Once i get a nandroid to work i'm going to try messing around a bit more, but any advice is helpful as im sure im not the only one to come across this.
Might wanna check to see where these nandroid backups that you've attempted are being stored. They do go towards internal memory unfortunately until you can move over to external sd. I'm in the same boat as you. Stock rooted, but afraid to flash a custom ROM since my backups seem to have a md5 mismatch when trying to restore (on CWM)...havent tried on TWRP...Honestly don't really see a whole lot out there as far as custom ROM's that seem that great...yet. I've modded my stock rom to suit my needs just fine...
there might be something still lingering when you remove some softwares. Check system/app or data/app and see if something that still needs to be remove.
Removing system apps (ie, bloat) will not gain you any usable space.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
I think my problem may be that all my pictures are saving to both my external sd and internal for some reason...no idea why though...it also keeps taking my music off the sd and copying it to internal mem...I finally got a good nandroid using cwm, seems the touch version want working but the reg one has and I deleted all my bad nandroids...now that I have that I'm going to a deodexed Rom n hopefully that helps being I've never had issues on the s3 with them

For those who have the same problem, you can try checking the log files in /data/log
I had the same problem and found hundred of RIL dump files (each about 1 MB size).
Deleting these files help to solve my problem and increase the available space in Internal Storage.
Where's my storage...?
I understand that Samsung is getting grief for how much memory they use, but I just wanted to post my storage up here to see how it compares to other S4 users. Does the OS/partitions used for things like cache take up memory in addition to the 7 GB of "system information" ?
I've got 1.55 GB to Applications, 191 MB to photos, nothing in downloads or audio, and 6.85 in "Miscellaneous files"
