Moral code of DEVs - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

Yea whatever let this sub forum die as well...

Hai there
In most ROM threads i see "credits" , and i guess they all work together but they have their own style of modding ROMS.
As u can see we actually have 3 base ROM's ginger , honey , froyo and few teams working together and modding , upgrading , etc them.
When dualtouch was relased in few days all roms got dualtouch hotfix , now in few days all roms will have flash lite hotfix etc.
That would not be possible if teams hide source from each others.

I've been a member of XDA for quiet some time now and in no sub forum has the moral code been so low as here.
It's fine to work on your own projects, but it's not ok to make it closed source.
I have NOT seen one single project on this sub forum that includes the source code.

Hi there,
As I can see about Apache License on wikipedia, I don't see any part discussing about source request.
Can you provide some more info about that?
Thanks.

Good...too bad thats the wrong subforum.
Also giving credit to someone is not equal to publishing the source.
Like I said, several requests to publish the source, have been ignored and will always be ignored.
Just look at the xrecovery sources. I don't see them anywhere.

1st check "[email protected]"...
2nd afaik xrecovery is part of "free xperia project" so check their github, but i never saw apache licence or any other licence on the thread of xrec...

I don't see anything related to the force of publishing source when requested?

.............

............

I know that Apache License V2 is compatible to GPL, but I don't see its (Apache License V2's) requirements having such things like "you sure as hell are required to post it if someone asks for it". "Compatible" doesn't mean "the same". It is Apache License, not GPL.
Can you quote the part from Apache License that contains your idea? It's very important. You just say it requires, but where is that requirement in the License?
Btw, I definitely agree with you about "One must understand the agreement first."

...........

I'm learning about Licenses, and I'm asking you where did your idea come from.
You didn't answer my question (simply because there isn't such thing in the Apache License V2), instead, continue to flame people. What is that attitude anyway? To make war?

I'm not flaming anyone, I'm just telling you how it is. This is supposed to be a open-source community, If people decide to take open-source, modify it and then make it their own proprietary software. Well then, good luck.
I don't know what your problem is. But I don't need to put up with this anymore.
Enjoy.
Mods close this if you wish. It's useless anyway.

So how do you explain what Sh!t Ericsson did to us? They modified Android, and kept the source closed. It's still legal.
If we have such thing in Apache License, we could have their f**kin source and build Gingerbread ourselves.
Also, where do you get this info?

You're assuming things yourself, subjectively.
/edit: or are you being jealous of people's ability while you can do nothing? I saw you have only have 2 "thanks".
/edit #2: this is taken from Apache License on wikipedia:
Compatibility in this case means that since the GPL version 3 is considered a superset of the Apache License 2.0, a project combining GPL version 3 and Apache License 2.0 code will need to be licensed under the GPL version 3

/edit #3: you came from nowhere and argued about what devs must do. This section is quiet because we have only some devs here. X10 Mini pro is not popular, unlike your G1.

If you want source...
Just pm us?
We will decide if you can have it or not...
On slade, dx, racht and D4 his roms topics i don't see any source download...
But i am sure if i pm one of them all they would just send the sources to me and kindly ask if i can give them credits
It is just that simple just send an pm and ask us for sources
8/10 times we would give it (atleast if you are not someone who don't know **** about nothing)

Hey colombian coffee addict, he was complaining that we violated Apache License V2. He believed that AL V2 forces us to publish the source when someone asks for it.
I just don't understand where he got that idea from.

From XDA and the Moderators What this Is

Here is Our new forum.
XDA, the moderators and the powers that be.... have been wrestling with trying to differentiate the Difference between the Code-writing Development and the Quasi-developers that use rom cooking tools or are just porting roms.
To that end we will be going through the development threads in the next couple of weeks and moving the appropriate threads that meet the original code requirement to be placed in this new forum.
Please bear in mind that this is a "Work in Progress" and will take a bit of time to hone and perfect what goes where.
Also, please understand that this does not mean that some developers are on some special pedestal. That is not the case.
I will use an analogy to explain:
A music composer writes an original piece of music. The music composition may be awesome... but his performance of it, may not.
Such often is the case in developers..... often someone comes up with a awesome idea or new code application, but it often ends up being perfected by the use of others putting their creative spin on it.
That is the beauty of The Android Platform and ....XDA provides a fertile field for all to share ideas and collectively improve our experience.
Additionally, we need to provide and track the proper credit to the original code writing Developer and better comply with the GPL requirements of Android......
I hope this clarifys the potential questions
Thanks from the Moderators
~~~ (oka1)~~~
So in layman's terms the original development forum will be for devs to post source built roms like aosp, aokp, aocp, cm9, PA, ext. while the android development will be for custom built roms based of stock firmware or leaks of said firmware, built thru a kitchen like DSIXDA's kitchen for example.
Essentially ......... yes, TBH I need to make sure I have all the requirements perfectly clear in my mind..... Either way this is to make sure the Original code writing participants get the credit they deserve, as well as, to help keep the GPL requirements in Order.
Has this new sub forum brought about a relaxation of the post count requirement of the pre-existing development forum?
I have noticed a post by a member with a count of '2' in the AOKP Milestone 6 thread.
Sounds like a good concept , I'm sure it will help in organizing the development forums.
Read that these new sub-topics were coming down the pipe and this should be nice to get some good clean look to the area.
never mind...I need to be positive not a Debbie Downer.
This is fantastic! I love this addition to XDA. Great job guys...:good:
I'm generally supportive of the move but I hope it works out. It seems like a HECK of a lot of work to sift throughout all these forums and separate everything and keep on top of it. Here's to a smooth transition.
This might lead to more confusion than what it is worth. I would add some categories to the post and then the ability to just filter the categories on the Topics list screen.
Categories like Based On: Original, CM9, KANG, Other.
You could do the same in the other Sub Forums as well.
General:
Type: Future, Complaint, Suggestions etc.
Apps:
Type: Business, Games, Personal, Utilities
And if you REALLY want to make the forum more useful add reply to a post and organize replies under the posts they were made to.
Follows are my personal opinions on the Original/Non-Original split and don't represent anyone else
Here.... What?? Why in the world would a stock rom, be it bone-stock or modified stock, or even modified (a pre-built) "Original" ROM, be here? IMO the distinction should be pretty simple:
If you compiled the ROM or Kernel or BOTH, it goes in the Original Android Development forum. In my opinion, compiled ROM but binary kernel also fits in the Original, so basically Compiled ROM == Original. If you modified a BINARY ROM, it should go in the old Android Development forum.
Of course I mean zero disrespect to any ROM cooks here. Someone could spend minimal time building a CM9 ROM or TONS of time modifying a stock ROM.
First off this is not meant at anythign else then me understanding and I wish to express it makes no difference to me where my roms end up .
I would also like to politely suggest to anyone who has better ideas about how XDA should be handled to contact the admins (not the mods) via the proper chanels , and if you have some time to invest in helping make XDA a better place for all of us please by all means , but do not make the moderators job any harder remember nobody is paid to do this and they are doing a fair job imo..
so . my question is
My aokp is 100% compiled form source (even the kernel ) its not a port so it belongs here. no brainer right ?
My TW rom (the hybrid ) is THE ONLY Samsung based (TW) rom that has he tablet mod , no other TW roms in all XDA forum (in the world ?) allows the usage of both the tablet and the phone .this one belongs here as well I guess ?
As for king kang (built from AOKP source) introduces a first on XDA the PAD mods mixed with AOKP . this rom has already been ported in at least 2 other devices . true enough this rom eventho build form source is a kang so this one in my book is sort of grey area since mods were added/ported to the rom at the same time making it unique enough for other devices to port it.
Brings me to my next question , anyone compiling a CM nightlie can post in here ? or where does it start / stop
I see other roms by other devs that probably deserve to be here aswell ( IMO ), so I suppose you have not started to move them .
As I said merely asking questions here not rushing anyone just trying to understand
Why bothered with the added tasks of sorting when ALL other device/forum have only ONE development forum ?? ( and it works for so many years !!!)
"why fix when it's not broken" ?
Does this mean ALL other devices forum will need this sorting ?? if not, then that should tells you that this is UN-neccessary !
You're open up a new can of worms that will cause disagreements down the road as to who thinks what belongs where...etc.
Just my opinion
If you take someone else's stuff (I.E. compiled other's code) it's not original. Unless you modify it yourself, it's not original (hence the definition).
Nonetheless, they just made monitoring the development section twice as painful.
that doesnt make much sense (not saying you dont) , but take aokp fo example is it built for one device only ? same for cm9 . I guess it woudl be fair to say that only 'official' release shoudl be here , but agina thisis what i dotn understand , Paranoid andorid in the SGS II forum is not considered an 'original development rom ' so its a bit confusing as its the original dev postign it ... not to mention they added there own code ot it .
If you didn't make or modify what's being installed....it's not original. The only thing you've done, is to do a-- hypothetically speaking-- translation. If you wrote the book, it's original.
There are two ways to look at this: For instance, if Paranoid Android's makes a ROM, and does something unique, it goes in Original. No matter which device it's for, if Paranoid Android did it, it's original, since he made it. This is the "Original Development" aspect of it. The "Galaxy Note Original Development" aspect of it translate to-- if Bumpaloo Makerfists made a ROM (called Bungalow Mowtower) for the Galaxy Note, it'd belong in Original...but if he then brought it to another device, it wouldn't be original? Because it was original to the Galaxy Note.
The second makes absolutely no sense at all...i can't even fathom that this would be a reality. The first makes sense. You wrote the book? Original.
If you took the "book", and then brought it to a country where it's never been before, it doesn't make you the author. Therefore it's not an Original. It's more like a cliff-notes--where the notes are by so-and-so, and the author of the book is Bumpaloo Makerfists. (But we have a credit system, which is why this is absolutely. unnecessary.
This provides zero additional value, at a painful cost-- extra work for the users....all users; developers and consumers alike. Which is proven by the fact that anyone at all has taken the time to comment in this thread, and that anyone has read this. If it wasn't obvious to everyone where the particular piece of work belongs, others will have no idea where to look for it. You guys have failed. This is ultimately bad for developers, bad for users, and bad for XDA...while you might get more page views because of people clicking around, aimlessly looking for something, or trying to monitor something, the fluff slaughters the perceived value of the site.
I absolutely hate the change. I see that XDA is trying to give people who go above and above and beyond and beyond their own space, and maybe even a few extra brownie points, but this is a joke. The whole concept.
XDA is the first site i've seen to dedicate entire sections to certain devices, and navigation has been key to it's success. What i don't see, is how this is good for the users at all.
Just like Dag and Others, some have taken work from multiple people, doing far more work than the sum of it's parts, and sometimes more than the other developers, creating something with more value than the sum of its parts. The "original" distinction bears no added value, especially if nobody actually knows what original is...(something the community gets to decide. I think, in fact, it does the opposite. It denegrates the work of others, discounting the effort-- for if it's easy to do, most developers will do it. Sometimes it takes a guy who absolutely needs CM on his device, now, to get something great going. For instance, with our device, as soon as someone took the time to get things moving a bit, there were 3-4 ROMs up based on CM9 within 2 weeks.
Enough from me.
Peace.
I thought i might add....this isn't your software XDA!!! You don't comply with the GPL! WE DO. You can force us to take things down, but you can't give credit for someone...have your moderators flame away, and flame people in public...but don't claim our work--for that's far worse than the actual flaming.
And i think the way this is worded is funny, I guess XDA is no longer a collection of techies and developers. I guess it's an entity that owns our work!
I don't intend for this to be confrontational...just a wake up call. Seriously, please consider this. I harbor no hate here--just a ton of love. And sadness at the direction it's heading.
◄••• GPL rules •••►
Quote of 12aon's GPL Thread (sticky in Flyer section)
A little introduction
Recently in several Android fora on XDA-Developers, it has come to the attention of the moderator team that there have been issues regarding developers’ compliance with the GPL. This post aims to clarify the position of XDA on the use of GPL sources, particularly in the development of Android kernels.
Without the GPL, the Android operating system would likely never have come about. Through the work of Linus Torvalds, the Linux kernel was made open source for all to use, share and modify. As Android runs on the Linux kernel, and features numerous modifications to these sources, it would not exist in its present state without the Open Source community.
As a result, it is in the interests of everyone who owns an Android phone, who wishes to see further development on the platform, to ensure that they play their part in upholding both the letter and spirit of the GPL.
The GNU General Public Licence (also known as the GPL) is available to read in full at www.gnu.org
To make it easy for everyone to spot a release that complies with the GPL mark the title of your release thread with [GPL]. If you find a ROM which does not comply with the GPL, or the developer does not issue sources, you can report the post as usual, using the report post button next to the post number. Alternatively you may PM your forum specific moderator.
The Rules as they apply on XDA
As XDA has no legal power to uphold the GPL (and frankly we want to stay as far away from doing so as possible), we can’t force any of our users to abide by the GPL. However it is in XDA’s interests as well as the interests of our developer-base to ensure all GPL-derived materials hosted or linked on XDA comply fully with the GPL.
1.GPL-derived materials that do not come with the complete sources used to compile the GPL components are considered warez, and will be treated as such under forum rule 6 and 9.
2.If you use GPL components, but do not make any modifications to them whatsoever, you should provide a link to the original source of your GPL code. (This excludes ROMs using a stock device kernel)
3.Sources accompanying a release should be complete, and contain all the necessary source code for any modules, scripts or definition files. Complete sources will be defined as those which compile correctly and completely against the platform for which the software is distributed, and which contain any and all modifications made to the released General Public Licenced code. The source code supplied should be the exact version for which the source code is being requested, complete with all modifications.
The Very Quick Summary of General Public License (GPL)
The text of the GPL Licence itself will be used to reach any final conclusion regarding any disputes over GPL Licenced materials. The above is a summary of what XDA expects of members using GPL code, and the complete text can be read at the GNU website.
The GPL states that anyone who modifies GPL licenced code is required to make available the sources used to compile it. This is to further improve and encourage collaborative work, as well as to ensure that the best code possible is produced, and to encourage peer-review of all work. This benefits both developers and end users in numerous ways, including:•Allowing anyone to verify the code they are trusting with their data, and its authenticity
•Encouraging community collaboration to produce faster fixes and updates, and better code
•Helping bring new developments from other devices and fields to your own, letting you benefit from new code that wouldn’t have been available without this sharing.
•The GPL imparts great freedom for GPL end users. It ensures innovation is never stifled and no project is dependent upon any single developer.
It is in everyone’s interest for the GPL to be adhered to, as it gives us all better ROMs, better transparency, and a better atmosphere for developers to work together to make great code.
You are aware that even if you didn't build the binaries yourself, you are required by the GPL to distribute your source code just the same as if you had built them yourself, right?
Or at least extend the same offer that was originally passed to you, on to those, to whom you have distributed the binaries.
So, while you may get on yncconsulting's case about missing some files from his kernel source distribution, by TECHNICALITY, you're kind of required to produce that same source yourself, or at least direct people to where they can get the source...
i am fully aware of the consequences, and you can read previous release in Acer section on that topic, if you doubt anything.
for the flyer section i linked to Leedroid initially, since that was his release i used.. so yes, i know the ruleset and how to redist. the source including my changes.
keynote, i did NOT link to ync's kernel source, since the link did not work intiially, so i could not write anything but info on the binary release.
Did you try PMing him about it? When I went looking for the source, and clicked his link and saw it was broken, I PM'ed him, and he said "huh, it must have been deleted while I was cleaning house... oops." and he got it back up the next day...
FORUM RULES
1. Search before posting.
Use one of our search functions before posting, whether you have a question or something new to share, it's very likely someone already asked that question or shared that news.
2. Member conduct.
2.1 Language: XDA is a worldwide community. As a result what is ‘ok’ to say in your part of the world may not be ok in someone else’s part of the world. Please think about who is reading what you write. Keep in mind that what you think of as acceptable use of language may not be acceptable to others. Conversely, while reading member posts, remember that word you find offensive may not be to the writer. Tolerance is a two way street.
2.2 Nudity: XDA is used by people of all ages, including minors. It's not acceptable to post nude/pornographic imagery, which includes exposure of the male or female genitalia or of female breasts.
2.3 Flaming: XDA was founded as a group of people sharing information about certain mobile phones. Sharing does not involve virtual yelling (flaming) it does involve working together to solve problems in an environment of mutual respect and understanding. Losing your temper and flaming another member, or group of members, is not acceptable behavior.
2.4 Personal attacks, racial, political and/or religious discussions: XDA is a discussion forum about certain mobile phones. Mobile phones are not racial, political, religious or personally offensive, therefore none of these types of discussions are permitted on XDA.
2.5 Courtesy towards other Members: Treat new members the way you would like to have been treated when you were a new member. When dealing with any member, provide them with guidance, advice and instruction when you can and always with respect and courtesy. Never post in a demanding, argumentative, disrespectful or self-righteous manner.
2.6 All members are expected to read and adhere to the XDA rules.
3. Post only using a clear subject and message.
You're most likely to receive a helpful answer to your question if you use a short subject title that describes your problem and a message that explains in detail what your problem is and what you've tried to solve it.
4. Use the English language.
We understand that with all the different nationalities not everyone speaks English well, but please try. If you're really unable to post in English use an online translator, You're free to include your original message in your own language below the English translation.
5. Post a message only once.
As a large forum we don't need unnecessary clutter, You're free to edit your message as you like, so if you do not receive an answer revisit your message and see if you can describe your problem better. Not everyone is online at the same time, it might take a while before you receive an answer.
6. Do not post warez.
If a piece of software requires you to pay to use it, then pay for it. We do not accept warez nor do we permit any member to promote or describe ways in which Warez, cracks, serial codes or other means of avoiding payment, can be obtained. This is a site of developers, i.e. the sort of people who create such software. When you cheat a software developer, you cheat us as a community
7. Do not spam.
If you wish to advertise a product, contact us we provide ads. But do not post it in the forums, it will be removed and you're likely to receive a ban.
You are however allowed to sell used goods like your own device, parts of your device or accessories for your device in the marketplace forum, please read the rules there before posting. (This rule includes signatures, if you use a signature it will appear in your post)
8. Donations.
We appreciate all donations to xda-developers.com, it keeps our forum online and well maintained. As a user you're allowed to ask for donations in your signature as a thank you for your hard work. However donations up front are not allowed, this forum is about sharing, not about getting paid to do something, that's what your job is for.
9. Don't get us in trouble.
Don't post copyrighted materials or do other things that will obviously lead to legal trouble. If you wouldn't do it on your own homepage, you probably don't want to do it here either. This does not mean we agree with everything the software piracy lobby try to impose on us, it simply means you cannot break any laws here, since we'll end up dealing with legal hassle caused by you. Please use common sense: respect the forum, its users, and those that write great code.
10. Help others if you can.
If you see posts from others where you can help out, please do. This place exists because people are helping each other, and even if you are relatively new to the matter, there's probably already quite a few people newer than you that would benefit from what you've learned. Don't be shy.
11. Don’t post with the intention of selling something.
Don’t use XDA to advertise your product or service. Proprietors of for-pay products or services, may use XDA to get feedback, provide beta access, or a free version of their product for XDA users and offer support, but not to post with the intention of selling. This includes promoting sites similar/substantially similar to XDA-Developers.com.
Do not post press releases, announcements, links to trial software, or commercial services. unless you’re posting an exclusive release for XDA-Developers.com.
Encouraging members to participate in forum activities on other phone related sites is prohibited.
Off-site downloads are permitted if the site is non-commercial and does not require registration.
Off-site downloads from sites requiring registration are NOT encouraged but may be permitted if the following conditions are met:
A) the site belongs to a member of XDA-Developers with at least 1500 posts and 2 years membership who actively maintains XDA-Developers' support thread(s) / posts, related to the download,
B) the site is a relatively small personal website without commercial advertising/links (i.e. not a competitor forum-based site with purposes and aims similar to those of XDA-Developers.com.)
12. Using the work of others.
If you are developing something that is based on the work of another Member, you MUST first seek their permission, and you must give credit to the member whose work you used. If a dispute occurs about who developed / created a piece of work, first try to settle the matter by private message and NOT in open forum. If this fails then you may contact a moderator with clear evidence that the work was created by you.
Convincing evidence will result in copied work being removed. If there is no clear evidence you created the work then in the spirit of sharing all work will remain posted on the forums.
As an addition, developers have the right to hold exclusivity over their work for as long as it is deemed necessary by the dev or freely share it. However, if the work is claimed as exclusive, it must remain as such. No selective sharing will be allowed (ie allowing certain people to use it and not others). Should the dev decide to start sharing the work with others, the work automatically becomes fair game for all to use.
In regards to permissions, same rules remain for this but if permission was already given, unless there is a very valid reason, it cannot be revoked (same applies to major updates on the work). Under that same premise, permissions cannot be denied unless the work is exclusive or under severe circumstances.
In plain English: If you want to keep your work exclusive, go for it. However, if you are going to share your work, do it fairly.
These rules apply to all software posted on XDA (including but not limited to ROMs, RUUs, apps, games, kernels, themes, icons, etc) unless that software comes with a license that waives these rules.
13. Advertising and Income Generation
Commercial advertising, advertising referral links, pay per click links and other income generating methods are forbidden. Do not use xda-developers as a means to make money.
14. Create only one User Account
You are allowed one User Account at xda-developers. If you create additional accounts, Moderators will disable them and your original account may also be disabled or infracted.
15. Keep posts/threads on-topic
Whilst a minor amount of off-topic posting may be overlooked, the general rule is your posts / threads must be relevant to the Forum / thread in which you are posting.
16. Bumping Threads (posting simply to force a thread to the top of the thread queue)
Do not "bump" a thread more than once per 24 hours.
I am getting really low signal, 1 bar on LTE and I was getting full bars in same place on my HTC one x last week.
I looked at AT&T apn and it isn't the correct settings for LTE. I tried adding a new one and saving it but it just doesn't appear in the list. I tried editing the current one and then it disappeared also.
Any help on this issue
edit: Lexington is having major data issues, not just me. Took a while to find someone with LTE to test. Also editing an APN or adding works fine, only if you change the MNC value. Sorry for false report DEV!
Go into tweaks, then MISC, then check "Use AT&T signal strength" that will show you your AT&T signal instead of the international signal.
So I figured it all out, Lexington KY is having major LTE issues. Everyone's speed is under 1MB. Took me a while to find a co worker with LTE to do a speedtest.
No issues with ROM. All is working! Thanks so much dev, this is great work.
Has anyone else had to change apns while using this Rom in order to get lte?
I only ask because I have been using this Rom for about 3 days and I haven't seen lte in the metro dc area like I usually do in most places..I checked the apn that comes with the Rom and it looks like the hspa+ apn instead of the pta apn I thought you needed to get lte with att..any one have similar issues?
Edit. Nvm got it figured out. Added an att lte apn and switched to lte/auto in settings.. lte working now..
Hey everyone,
We at Honor want to grow our community and following.
So in doing so, we are opening/releasing the AI source, kernel source and bootloaders for the Honor View 10 to developers to be able to have access not only the AI APIs but also root and give the opportunity for rom's to be developed. We want to see what some of you can do by having access to our AI eco-system.
This is extremely exciting for us at Honor and proud to invite 1000 developers, as our sign of commitment to the community to join the Honor Open Source program.
We plan to release this program by end of January 2018. There are still details to iron out but will definitely keep everyone informed with more info.
Please visit https://store.hihonor.com/us/ to sign up to be notified. Also stay tuned to this thread as well.
Being apart of the XDA community myself as a consumer for 8 years, XDA has a close place in my heart. I appreciate and thank all the developers here, personally. I am really excited to share this news to you all.
I will reach out to the LoS and AOSPA team and others, myself as I know how important they will be.
I'm all ears from you all regarding feedback. I believe this news will be well received.
Cheers!
Chris
1. Kernel Source
2. Fastboot Factory images
3. NFC and Audio Amp source
4. Device trees
5. AI APIs
This is a list that I will request and also stress that any Chinese needs to be translated to English.
If there is anything else that devs may need, please feel free to let me know so I can ensure we make it happen
Update 2:
Hope everyone is well
Big update with some exciting news to share!
We have selected the first initial developers to receive the Honor View 10. These developers are key building blocks for future development for the View 10. We're really happy to have these devs and their appropriate team on board and willing to participate with the Honor Open Source Program.
Yes, there are other important teams and developers in the community and we will provide devices to the other team members as well (LOS, AOSPA, AOSIP, DU, etc).
This is just the first, small phase of many more to come.
This should greatly jump start development once we release the kernel source publicly to download
First 9 Developers are:
@LuK1337
@topjohnwu
@franciscofranco
@luca020400
@rovo89
@OldDroid
@phhusson
@Myself5
@Dees_Troy
If all goes according to planned, kernel source should be available in the next week or two (for the EU model).
Thanks for all of your support! Hang in there and I'll keep everyone updated as more info is available
Cheers!
Chris
This sounds amazing! I wasn't even aware that this was in the works. Can we nominate a particular developer to receive one? If so, I nominate XDA Senior Member phhusson so he can continue his work on generic, AOSP Treble ROMs.
P.S. I'll keep in touch with the AOSPA team and update the community on how things go!
Absolutely! We want to hear feedback and I can reach out to them if tagged. Ideally we're wanting to stay in the USA, but I'll find out more info.
I have already posted on the AOSPA G+ group and have gotten in contact with the LOS team as well.
Great to hear! I'd love to subscribe to the open source program when it's available.
I'd like to nominate @chadouming to receive a device for his contributions to upstreaming the use of toolchains used when compiling Android and for having taken on the Uber project as a whole when Chet Kener left development. He puts so much time into projects and his work to make it stand out. I can't stress his contributions enough. Check out his GitHub profile:
Hey everyone,
We at Honor want to grow our community and following.
So in doing so, we are opening the AI source and bootloaders for the Honor View 10 to developers to be able to have access not only the AI APIs but also root and give the opportunity for rom's to be developed. We want to see what some of you can do by having access to our AI eco-system.
This is extremely exciting for us at Honor and proud to invite 1000 developers, as our sign of commitment to the community to join the Honor Open Source program.
We plan to release this program by end of January 2018. There are still details to iron out but will definitely keep everyone informed with more info.
Please visit https://store.hihonor.com/us/ to sign up to be notified. Also stay tuned to this thread as well.
Being apart of the XDA community myself as a consumer for 8 years, XDA has a close place in my heart. I appreciate and thank all the developers here, personally. I am really excited to share this news to you all.
I will reach out to the LoS and AOSPA team and others, myself as I know how important they will be.
I' all ears from you all regarding feedback. I believe this news will be well received.
Cheers!
Chris
Nicely said Chris! Now I definitely want to get my hands on the View10! However, if I am not mistaken, the one that was released does not have US LTE bands correct? If I purchase the chinese version, can the LTE bands be unlocked or do I have to wait for the US/Global version? Also when will it be released?
+1 Chris. The Honor view 10 sold in India has no support for LTE bands used by USA carriers. So if I purchase my view 10 from India can additional LTE bands be unlocked manually. I am eager to get my hands on view 10 (sold in India and not Chinese version )but the lack of LTE bands used by USA carriers is the only thing holding me back.
I'd like to nominate @mosimchah for his work on aicp, and for his kernel work
GitHub.com/mosimchah
I would like to nominate @Cozzmy13 (demon000) for his work on Lineage infrastructure and amazing device development. His Github is here: https://github.com/Demon000
You absolutely need @Entropy512 in your team.
Not only does he love the Huawei, but absolutely adores it.
He is the wizard.
dear chris
i would like to nominate the whole open kirin team. olddroid, xpeleato, surdu_petru
This is tremendous news and i think having developers have access to bootloader and ai will really expand the potential for this device and the user experience. Look forward to being involved.
I'm in. I'm a former cyngn employee, lineage recovery developer, general lineage contributor, and aokp lead.
The open kirin team surely deserve this.
@xyyx check this out. You deserve to have this free device for developer.
For you excellent and smooth Nitrogen OS 8.1
That is an amazing news.
I would like to nominate @miststudent2011 for being an active member and a rom compiler.
One of the biggest issue with the honor source for the kernel was the fact that a lot of it was in un-translable Chinese. If you guys help with the translation I am sure Honor devices would get far more custom rom development. It's one of the things that prevented me from getting the device. I only buy devices I can build aosp for.
I would like to nominate @Anik_khan he is team of lineageOs and this is his GitHub profile github.com/Anik1199
As contributor / maintainer / director of LineageOS I would like to nominate myself :3
I will nominated @Anik_khan..He is ones of member LineageOS/maintainer for some devices too and he is good developers..Hope u will count on him..
This is his github link github.com/Anik1199..Cheers from Indonesia!!!
