Microsd cards - HTC EVO 3D

hey
So I'm going to be new to the android world. I'm looking at purchasing either a class 10 16gb card or a class 4 32gb card. The little I've read it sounds like some of the class 10 32gb cards tend to corrupt.
Wonder what people recommend for the evo 3d.
I was interested in the transcend 32gb card. Sandisk no longer rates there cards.

Class 10 is overkill. I've been rockin' a 32gb class 4 sandisk in my evo for a couple of months. Works great.

Same one Ive been using in my 4G as well. Will be taking it out and sticking it in my 3D this week. Should work like a charm.

I have a sandisk class 2, the thing's way too slow. Go for a class 4, but if u want a class 10, these look pretty good, only some reviews say they had issues. I'd say back up your data, take your chances and go for the class 10.

I have Patriot 32GB Class 10, it's working fine in my Evo 4G. It's faster than than my 8GB Class 6, but not much. The class 6 is noticeably faster than the class 4.

I this card from this etailer:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820139588
It has been disappointing. All the file cluster sizes were tried. Also tried the read ahead trick. Card was formatted fat 32. Tried different card readers. Benched with h2testw_1.4 software on PC and SD Tools on phone. Fastest it would come up with is 8.4 MB/s write and 17 MB/s read.
To contrast, I have a Sandisk 32 GB Class 2 card that does 6 MB/s write and 10 MB/s read.
So, the Kingston performs like a Class 8. Too bad there is no such classification. And too bad I paid for Class 10+. The "+" referring to the exorbitant price I foolishly shelled out for.

can anyone give me some recommendations and links for a decent 32gb sd cards...class 4 or 10 doesn't matter. I have seen a lot of mixed reviews on the class 10's so I am hesitant on getting one.
Thanks!

what class is the stock 8gig that comes with the evo 3D ?

Check newegg for decent prices.
Stock card is class 4

You must have a class 4 sd card to work properly

Check out my reviews of the Lexar 32 GB Class 10 over in the Evo 4G accessories forum. I posted some benchmarks & pics from when I first got it. They have it on sale at a couple different places. I paid like $99 with S/H from Provantage.

Any 32gb class 10 card I can trust?

Been getting mixed reviews and different pricings but I just can't seem to find a good card. Do you guys have any suggestions? Been caught up between the lexar, adata, and pny. I also heard that class 4 are sometimes faster. I just want a good card with the most memory (cause some cards come with like 28gb instead of the full 32gb), good read/write speed, lifetime warranty, at a ok price point. Can you guys help?

for price and reliability, I agree, patriot is a good card. for about 75-80 dollars I think its worth it. until sandisk makes one I wouldn't pay the higher prices for any of the other ones. but I could only imagine if sandisk did make one it would probably be $150!

the problem is sandisk doesn't make a class 10, I think the highest they make is a class 6. but I hear their class 6 is just as good as others class 10 cards.

I have Patriot 32GB Class 10 for my phone, it's been flawless. I only buy SanDisk and Patriot. They are the most reliable. I've been buying flash memory since DSLR camera's came out. Not one failure in a decade. I have ~50 flash cards of various styles, speeds and capacities for my cameras. They are almost all SanDisk with several Patriot.

What SD card are you using, and...

would you give me a short evaluation of it?
I currently have a 16GB SanDisk Class 4 SD card that I bought at RadioShack for $29.99. I'm looking to see what people think as far as certain companies stack up and what the read/write speeds are as far as advertised/reported, and just a general summary of your card.
If you're interested in contributing, tell me what company made your SD card, how many gigs it holds, rate it on a scale of 1-5*, and then anything about your card that you feel others should know, i.e. it's rated at class 4 but you're getting class 10 speeds.
So, for myself, it would look like this:
- SanDisk Class 4
- 16GB
- 5*
- Card is reliable, I have had no problems with it, and using SDTools from the Market, it was showing 5.3Mb/s write and 10.6Mb/s read. I would recommend this to someone looking for a good card at a good price.
I'd love to have a lot of responses! Even if you're just using the stock 8GB card, I really want this to become a helpful guide maybe(?) for people to use when looking at getting a new card, because there is a lot of info out there and people are reporting different things for the same card.
So let me know what you're experiencing.

Card is amazing, I get well over 10 MB/s write speed and over 20 MB/s read speed, on top of 32 gigs of storage.
Transcend 32gb class 4,
It was only 50$, the write speeds are about 4mb/s with burts up to 6. The read speed is at 12mb/s. Its a class four card and performs like it. I love it.

Well guys I have a 16Gb Sandisk I think is a Class 2 it cost me around $20 like 4 months ago... and I would rate as 5 I never had any issues with it.. I get 6.6MB write speed and 19.1MB Reading.. I want a 32GB one but I don't know much about hope someone can recommend me a good one...
and Great thread...
Kingston class 10
32GB
4* (8.3 MB/s write, 19.2 MB/s read)
8.3 MB/s is acceptable for dayly usage, but i expected more of a class 10 card for the price I payed, thus 4*
Transcend class 6
16GB
5* (15.8 MB/s write, 17.4 MB/s read)
absolutely happy with the speed on this one
(not rating the few 2, 4 and 8GB class 4 cards of various manufacturers i got laying around)
PNY 16gb class 10. BUT I DO NOT RECOMEND, I have had the data on the card go corrupt on it 4 or 5 times in the 5 months I have had it. It was cheaper then the PNY 16gb class4 at best buy and now I know why. I'm actually about to head to the store right this second to get a new card.
SanDisk 32GB. Was listed as a Class 2 I believe but doesn't have a Class number on it. I have no complaints at all. Used it on my Evo 4G and now my 3D. Bought it direct from SanDisk when they ran a less than 24 hour sale( maybe a mistake) for less than $60 shipped. I get 6mbps Write and 13mbps Read. SanDisk always outperform there Class ratings though, can't go wrong with one of their storage cards!
EDIT: When swapping batteries today I pulled my sd card to have a look at it. It DOES say Class 2 on it. Very nice speeds for Class 2, but that's SanDisk for ya!

You mean SDXC cards? They're super new aren't they (read about Sandisk announcing a line of them just last week). No guarantee they're compatible with the EVO 3D, though the SDXC spec seems to read that it'll just be a firmware update to make SDHC drives compatible.
I know one guy mentioned he had ordered on over in the thread discussing the Sandisk announcement. No word from him yet.
sdxc
Yeah i have a microSD to SD converter so i can get cheaper and more capacity cards.. but then i realized the spec of the phone is 32gb. but is that only because microsd only goes to 32gb? I need to find someone with a 64gb card so i can test lol
Using a PNY class 10
16 gig
5* i typically see about 12mb write and about 18mb read when i transfer ROMs to/from my comp. it performs like that consistently.
i have always had good experiences with PNY. i use them religiously in all of my cameras. they are right up there with sandisk, and a tad bit less expensive. this is the first time i have used one in a phone, and i'll say it again (as i did in another thread), sandisk underrates their products, and PNY rates them exactly what they should be.
hope this was useful!

I have the same card and it can only muster this:

[Q] Which Micro SD card class should I go with

I'm looking at buying a 32 gig card, just not sure if I want to go back with a Class 4 card or should I look at a class 6 or class 10.... My Dell Streak recorded video was horrible, would sometimes crap out and come back during playback, audio in the video would get garbled & go away sometimes. Didn't know if this was due to the Streak itself or the class 4 PNY card I am using.
I do know that in my Ti2 camera going up to a class 6 or 10 card made a HUGE difference in write times, so I'm wondering if it would be the same in a droid phone like this....
Everything you will find online regarding class 4 vs 10 says go with the 10 when dealing with video. At the sale prices lately there isn't much reason not to. 30ish is what I just picked up one for (frys electronics)
I don't take enough video to notice

It's the same card I was talking about 2 posts earlier, same card I have. It's not really class 6 - it's a well known fact SanDisk is very conservative and underrates their cards' performance. I have benchmarked this card and it does better than class 10 microSDHC on both, read and write.
Make sure to format it to FAT32 - if you try to use it with default extended partition formatting it comes with - your phone won't recognize it.

Else yes class 10 should be the fastest, although I'm very pleased with the current one I have, since it plays full HD without a problem

You're really not gaining much by moving from class 4/6 to class 10 in a device like this. There's not really going to be much need in a tablet to have sustained write speeds like class 10 offers, and you won't notice the difference between those 3 classes unless you're really doing very specific things.

The class only determines the sustained write speeds. Different cards will read and write differently. Additionally, as far as 1080p playback is concerned, that really depends on multiple factors such as sustained and burst read speeds, cache size, and video decoding method. With a good class 4 card, you could still play 1080p back, but that's why I stated 6 as well. For cost efficiency, I would use a class 6 card to get the best of all worlds.
I can't remember who it was, but someone has posted a picture of a Lexar (IIRC) 128GB SDXC card inserted into the dock and working fine in the past.

Good thread, thanks.
Side note: Does class matter? I generally purchase class 10 only.

Class 4 is the best :-

Using a 128gb sdxc in the dock with success, it's now my portable movie player.

That post doesn't really take real world 64GB cards into effect. Other than that it's a good post.
Added, thanks
@Tekara, which one u used?

The Lexar one:

Probably useless, but I had a spare SanDisk 2GB MicroSD card sitting around so I tried it and it worked. It has no class marking, so it's probably a class 2.

yeah, I looked at it, too. SanDisk class 6 micro SDXC. Let me know if you try it how it works for you. I'm using a 16Gb class 10, and it works great. I've seen sketchy things about 32 Gb micros having occasional failed reads, so I'm hesitant to go up, but I would like to be able to move all my music onto a single card, so let me know. Thanks.
Mine gets here tomorrow, I'll post back if its good or not
I've really considered upgrading if it does work well enough. I want to get my entire music collection on my phone without having to worry about storage. And this sounds perfect.

I have two 32GB cards I use in my Rezound and never had a problem. Our phones officially support up to 32GB so I wouldn't worry about that. But I've also seen 64GB work even though its not officially supported.

I've had a 32GB in my phone since November and never had a problem with it!
I presently have a 32gb micro SD class 10 PNY brand. Works great! I had since my Fascinate. I ordered the 64gb class 6 cause I am running at of space.

its great just format it in the phone, and you get about 61.2 GB after, and your good the write speed is around 9.5 mb/s and the read is 30-38 mb/s
Just formatted in the phone and came up as 59.46GB transferred all the stuff over now have 37GB available.

Personally 16GB is perfect for me. All my V0 MP3s can fit on that. I don't collect album and only my favorite songs.
personally I listen to flac files and they are frankly huge compared 10 mp3. I have 2 32 gig cards, maybe I should consider an upgrade.
CAUTION
While I do not really intend to go searching for the thread, an early adopter of the 64GB card initially thought it worked, and then it bottoms up pretty quick. Find the thread; but if he is correct DO NOT BUY THIS CARD FOR THE REZOUND.

holy shi! thats a lot of memory bro!!
Not exactly sure if this is the same one that Bestbuy has but I bought the SanDisk 64GB Mobile Ultra MicroSDXC Class 6 Memory Card for my Rezound and haven't had any issues (about a month old now). I formatted it on the computer then the phone. It is very expensive but definitely worth it in the end. Before the 64 I used my 32 GB microSD that came with the Thunderbolt without issue. Up to now I haven't had any adverse effects.

same here except I got mine prolly 3.5 moths ago....
I have been running a Samsung 32gb class 10 card in my Rezound since I set it up and have no issues. I thought about trying the upgrade to 64 but don't think that I would really be able to gain much extra use out of the storage. If the price drops though I am sure that I will test it out.

Need a microSD for smartphones but good lookin out :/
He tried lol!
Just ordered myself a 64gb from Bestbuy as well. Couldn't find anyone that was even close in price. Coupled that with my triple rewards points. Thank for everyone that figured out it was just a formatting issue. Still no files over 4gb though
