Google Voice Working? - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Themes and Apps

Does anyone have Google Voice working, or should we wait for the 3.1 update?
Thanks!!

Google Voice doesn't work. I even tried a modified apk from the Xoom.

I don't recall where I got it from, but there is a version out there that works pretty well. I'm pretty sure got it from another thread on this forum, so try searching and you should find it. It is kinda dated, it doesn't support the push notifications for text messages (so fastest you'll get texts is every 5 minutes), but it works.

I've had no luck finding this version. Does the Gtab need rooted for it to work?

I think this is the file that I have installed right now: htt p:// db . tt / T3Svb4A (sorry, not enough posts to post the full link, just remove the spaces). Let me know if that one doesn't work and I'll do a direct pull from my device. And no root is needed.

Now, if only we could make google voice calls, this would be awesome. Thanks again.

Groove IP works on gingerbread, can anyone confirm that it works on the tab/honeycomb?
Fyi groove IP allows for voice calls from a tab using your Google voice number.

I copied the Google Voice APK from my Nexus S to my LE Galaxy Tab 10.1, and it installed and ran without any of the configuration file trickery described in other posts. Neither device is rooted.

Are you able to make calls or just text? My texting works fine, but still need GrooveIP to make calls.

That will always be true for any WiFi device. The official Google Voice app is not a SIP client. You need some other SIP client like SipDroid, CSipSimple, SipAgent or GrooveIP.

I got Google Voice working by using Titanium Backup. I used the backup files from my SGS4G. It Took a while for the batch operation to finish but it worked! No calls for the time being though. Texting is great though!

Latest Version
Here's the latest version from my Infuse. Supposed to be easier on your battery.
Also, GrooVe IP is on sale at Amazon. $1.99 vs. the regular $3.99. http://www.amazon.com/snrb-Labs-GrooVe-IP/dp/B004Z1P53W/ref=zg_bs_mobile-apps_1

yes u can make and receive calls. all you need is Groove IP which is a paid app worth all the money. install the app, follow the setup, and start making and receiving phone calls with your google voice number. no root needed!!! yes u need to b on wifi

I noticed if you text on a wifi only device with google voice you dont get the text instantly, you have to wait for google voice app to refresh which its lowest setting is 5 minutes.
Is there anyway to get texting instantly?

[Q] push your sms from your phone to your nook

Is there an app that can push your sms from your phone to your nook(rooted)? It would be great if there was some server app that could be run on the NC. I live in Canada so I dont have the option of Google Voice. Thanks for your input. I use android-notifier for my pc, if you are wondering what i I am looking for.
For text you can use textfree comes with s phone number so you can send/receive text messages

Thanks animatechnica. Im not too concerned about sending text messages but I want notifications that a text or phone call was made to my phone. If you know of any apps that might do that that would be great.
That would be a very useful app. When I'm at home I just used to carry my phone around. Now that the nook comes along for the ride, two Android devices are cumbersome and redundant. But I need my phone on me for calls and texts so I can't just leave it somewhere. Knowing when I need to go to my phone from my nook would be awesome.

I have tried contacting the developer or android notifier....email was rejected. I must have not followed the proper steps, my fault. I just read that "whatsapp" app was givin 8 million .......if i can get all my contacts to use this I will be golden.....lol. Help still appreciated.
TalkMyPhone might interest you. I use it to answer texts from my computer without having to look at my phone.
Thank veritas....it works perfectly. There is a post on lifehacker on how to set it up. Google talk acts as the SMS client on my nook.
TalkMyPhone (GTalk SMS)..... All set up on my NC too. Works perfectly. Only use for my phone now is as a wifi tether!!!
Talkmyphone is great!!
Thanks so much for the tip on GTalkSMS, I've been wanting this for a long time. I can text from my computer or my nook now!
how do u set up talkmyphone
I use sync SMS along with dropbox and I can receive and and send text messages from my NC. Sync SMS isn't free but it's not expensive. You get the message on the phone and NC plus you can see the whole conversation in both places. I reccommend it.

The problem with google voice is you can't set it up to receive texts from twitter.

whilst there is a setup link mentioned in an earlier post (a lifehacker link), it isnt specifically talking about using a NC.
can somebody here, who successfully uses talkmyphone, compile a short how-to for setup on the NC please?
thanks
using Sync SMS
i did a nan restore (CM7 Nightly internal) and now i'm getting the

for each of the voice mails my new EVO 3D gets.
what do i do to stop that ?
you can survey this on XDA texTab : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14922112&postcount=1
It can only connect trough bluetooth now, but the dev is going to add wifi support!

[Q] Skype alternative?

I used to use Fring but that was just complete crap as far as call quality went... so, i've been using Skype lately.
the problem with Skype is that the call quality is still a bit "crappy" here & there + the latest update keeps pestering me to re-install it at least once a day(wtf?)
is there anything else out there that i can use on my Thunderbolt that has decent call quality, call land lines as well as get a phone # assigned to me for people to call me?
I use Tango and Qik all the time. They both work well.

i didn't bother with Qik as i'm not interested in video calling & Tango says it's a "free" app that's for making calls to other Tango users.
thanks for trying though.

If you have a google voice number and account then look at GrooveIP. i suggest you be in strong 3G or 4G coverage for it to work well
Google talk. Its free, better Quality then skype and works with every rom, can use wifi OR data. Search for gtalk 1.3 dowloader in market.
Google voice is free, as good of quality as my regular verizon line. Sets up on your celly, lets you choose which line to use to make calls, and you can foward your cell number to your gvoice vvmail box so you dont have to check 2 vm box's

It sounds like google voice is what your looking for, if you use gmail, google +, voice and talk all work together in your gmail act. Which just makes things so much easier. And its all free. You need separate apps to do each thing on your phone for now, but im hoping they integrate them all into g+ soon.

i ended up finding that gtalk via a google search and downloaded it from here. i tried to install it but apparently it isnt for AOSP ROMs.
as for google voice, i just tried that but it seems its just a voicemail management system and for making international calls. both i dont care to do.
oh well. ;(
I use it as my normal number all the time. I have a cali celly number but live in colo, so my gvoive number is my local colo number which i use all the time.

sorry but, when i installed it it was asking about managing my voicemail & then asking if i wanted it set as the default device for making international calls. it then dropped me into some sort of inbox and there were no call options anywhere. i did a google search on it but i just found info on how to use it on your desktop. i guess i'll have to attempt to find more information on the app. i just wish it was more user-friendly.
p.s. noticed a lot of negative feedback on it in market complaining about it being an unfinished app.

i got Google Voice up & running yesterday & had been using it to make/receive a few calls. i just checked my minute usage though it seems Google Voice DOES use your minutes(confirmed it on google's site also).
Apparently there's a trick to actually getting it for free but requires downloading a few other apps from market and registering on some gizmo5 website(that seems to be down).
so itseems Skype is my best choice after all.

Does Skype recognize an internal microphone?
I've heard there is a problem:
"I had no problem installing the Skype app or logging into my account. But the app wouldn’t recognize the NOOK Tablet’s Microphone, which means it’s impossible to make voice calls. You can only use Skype as an instant messenger app on the NOOK Tablet."

I've got the latest Skype running but it has issues. It can send IM's without issue but voice phonecalls are buggy. When making an outgoing call to someone on a contact list the call is established but then drops immediately, and then an incoming call from the person you rang suddenly appears even though they didn't call you. For a while I had it answer a call and apparently seem to maintain it but on the Nook I couldn't hear the remote party - Skype seemed to be confused with the nofification volume and the media volume. When the notification volume was all the way down it muted the incoming sound completely. When the notification volume was up, that's when I couldn't get it to maintain a call. Very weird. Not really usable.
That was my experience anyway, would be interested in seeing what other people find with various versions.
Can you check which version of skype you are using so I can try it. The latest doesn't seem to recognize the microphone.

OK, so I thought I'd try this again and its a no go?! I had tested it initially with my wife's computer and she answered the call etc. Now it also drops calls as soon as picked up. My version is a "raider" version for this forum somewhere and not the lastest but a link for ppl having issues. Non the less, it's not working now
Which apk?
The android market says it is incompatible. I got an apk on the net, but it insisted on a mobile phone number.
It looks good, signs in and calls out but drops the call after about two rings. Does Skype need gps? I was thinking that if we could get a gps spoof running that might do it.
I was calling a landline which I had control of and it even rang so I'm close. I can tether to the gps on my phone but that defeats the purpose. I suppose I could do that to see if it's what skype wants.

Wasn't sure I had it still - I have "com.skype.raider2-1.2.apk" in my downloads.
I've reinstalled it and it is acting the same as what i had installed.
Sorry I didn't keep more detail, but because it seemed to work, I didn't think much of it. I imagine now that I've done lots of other downloads, mods etc, something must of messed it up.
The most major one since then would have be the multi keyboard stuff. Either that or it was just a fluke that it worked. My wife is my participating witness tho

OK, a little more digging reveals two files. The raider2 one mentioned above and one named "Skype_2.0.0.47_v06.apk".
I tried to attach them but they are both over 9megs and the limit is 8M.
Having a gps signal didn't help. My theory was that Skype needed a location so that it billed properly.
Currently calls drop after two rings (which make it to the line being called) and advanced settings cause a force close.
It's too bad. being able to make the occasional call would really make this an even better vacation device for out of your home country.
---------- Post added at 09:18 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:23 AM ----------
A little bit of progress. The apk from this post rings the other number until connection then drops. Advanced settings still FC.

If you are asking for the Skype version, it's 2.6.501.97. If you need the apk file number.... uh, I'm still pretty new to android and even tho I can build and hack a pc, I'm having trouble naving my NT. I'm still looking for the file and I'll post it when I stumble over it.
Okay, I give up. How do I sent a chat message to someone? I can't find anywhere in Skype that has that option. Whenever I click on a contact, I only have the option to call them.
Anyone have any updates on this?
I was wondering if they figured something out on the CM7 beta testing, but haven't found info related to skype/google calls.
