Spare Parts for X2 - Motorola Droid X2

Here is a stripped down Cyanogenmod version of Spare Parts. You can increase the window and transition speeds with this. Increasing the speed seems to help out some of the animation lag in the phone. I am just throwing this out there so people do not have to use the version found in the market.

Thanks soooo much =) been looking for one =)

My dad just upgraded to the X2, I've been researching roots, apps, and OTAs for him. What does this do exactly?

Thanks Nitro it's good to see a familiar developer. Ran your EF roms on my fascinate & loved them. If we get a workaround for the bootloader, will you be sticking around awhile?

Unless this is a different version of Spare Parts, it's already been posted. This thread is redundant.

First Time Eris Root Recommendations

I own a droid, and have already rooted it, running CM6, got it down pretty alright. So I'm not all that new to rooting. But my sister has a Droid Eris, and I was looking to root that for her. I plan on using the 1 click rooting app mentioned here, but I was wondering if anyone could recommend any ROMs and/or Kernels that I should use? She's not much of a power user, I'm mostly trying to speed it up for her and get rid of stock apps and such, so any help would be great. Thank you in advance

Kaosfroyo is really great and the other two froyo roms on here I've read great things about them too I've just only used kaos and I highly recommend it
Sent from my FroyoEris using XDA App
Id suggest a frayo rom there's a few going around I personally recommend kaos frayo V32 very fast and stable, very great build. Its overclocked to 710 out of box.
my rom is pretty great also
You could also use mine, that is if you want a rom that is stock but with speed tweaks and themes.
I would also suggest one of the froyo roms. Tazz Cyanogen Froyo is really smooth and fast. Of course I think this would be a great rom for anyone.
I'd suggest running jcase's PlainJane rom and check out the new BFS kernel.
I just got a warranty replacement phone, rooted the old way and put PlainJane on there (I had been running PlainJaneT2 which just adds support for A2SD but that only complicates upgrading to froyo later) did a nandroid backup then flashed that BFS kernel and ran a linpack benchmark right after scoring near 2.5 without overclocking (PlainJane barebones absolute stock 2.1 with SuperUser and OC support)
I suggest PlainJane because it's simple, you can get moderate EXTREMELY stable performance gains, get rid of bloatware, run wifi tether and no one would be the wiser that the handset was rooted. Your sister can then confidently explore the app market, slowly get into changing some settings, try a new launcher and at some point then maybe she'd have some interest in froyo...
As great as the Eris Froyo roms are you should face the fact that they're all intended for moderately android savvy users or at least novices with aspirations to learn a LOT more on their own. Few users will ever root their phone to begin with, even fewer will go the distance learning command line for abd and the fact that you're rooting her ERIS is evidence enough imho that you should be putting the LEAST complicated MOST stock solution if you intend to do this for her.
If she walks into a verizon store with her phone she'll get no help, If she loses ANYTHING can't use something she wants to for any reason it'll be YOUR fault and she will VERY quickly forget the hours you spent tweeking her phone to squeeze out a couple more MFLOPS that she'll honestly never really use.
that's my take

That was my thinking as well. I've looked through the forums a bit, and I'm assuming you're talking about these:
(Just realized I can't post links, would it be any trouble for you to post links to the ROM and kernel threads you're talking about so I can verify?)
Just want to make sure we're on the same page?
Thanks to everyone for your speedy replies and help. I'm definitely looking into all these, see what might work best and try to explain to her what might work best for her.
I am running CELB and loving it. I had issues with kaosfroyo and forcecloses.

Jcase Plain Jane 2.1 is a good stable ROM and agree with psilocybenine's comment.
Another good stable ROM to check into could be Sense-able 3.1. I play around and try out all the new roms that come out but this one is my everyday one for it stability. (plus I like the simple blue theme). Have not had any problems.
good luck

All plain jane does is add oc capability a d superuser rights. Senseable has speed tweaks and apps2sd and some other tweaks. Both are sense based and are like stock with added root fun.

If you want something as close to the standard Eris UI, then that might be Plain Jane. Sense-able has some bloatware removed and other features but not to far off once you get it set up. Just read the threads thoroughly. Sense-able has a couple of add -on fixes (updated the dialer and a text input fix).
Sens Based ROM all hands up for Plain Jane. Fast, stable and sense. I would highly reccomend it as far as sense based rom. As far as Froyo my choice definitely goes to nonsensikal =)

its AOSP(vanilla) and the others mentioned above are sense based, which is how the phone comes so if you want a stock feel i used plainjane but you might want to try them both out mabey one suits you better. as far as ease i think they are all pretty easy to get used to.

not all are sense based bro
As much as I love the Froyo roms, all of them have small flaws that a not-so-power-user would quickly get frustrated with. The camera issue is one of the most notable. She would have to take a picture, then close the camera and open the gallery to view it. If she tried to preview the picture from within the camera, her phone would lock and she would have to pull the battery. If she's cool with that, put her on a Froyo rom. They're all pretty great!
If she wants pure stability and only wants to download and use apps, put her on a 2.1 rom with Apps2SD. Sense UI eats up a lot of the Eris's speed so I would recommend one without it. Plus it's like getting a new phone when you swith from Sense to non Sense based rom. Conap's ELB is my personal favorite but some of the others mentioned in this thread are also pretty stable.

Alright ladies and gentlemen, I am glad to finally bring you the Evervolv series of ROM's. This is an alpha build, however most, if not all items should be working. I'm going to keep this post vague and update it when the rom becomes beta worthy.
This rom would not be possible without the CM team, so i give them props any time i can.

Everything should be working as of now (with the small except to the Brightness widget, it's functionality is there... but the UI updating is not just yet). The Nexus One i have has no sim card, so i can't test everything. However English is the main supported language, if google hasn't added the language support, i haven't either. This means certain apps will have no support at all (i.e. Evervolv Settings). If there is someone that would like to contribue the efforts to languages, we'd be more than happy to have you aboard.

No, this is a build that started from AOSP. However, some of the fixes and few features have been derived from the CyanogenMod Team, including the CM kernel.

agree with this... this rom already support app2sd??
Liking so far. Its a breath of fresh air. Just something nice and new, really smooth and responsive.
It appears a2sd is not there? Maybe I'm wrong but under settings it said ext (unavailable).
Also, its a little eh that I can't change the dock settings (I know I can use LauncherPro and I probably will but I was trying to avoid that) because I use Chomp and DolphinHD so those dock shortcuts are useless.
Screen off animation is SWEET and boot animation is stellar.
Overall, seems very solid for a first release. I'll stick with it for now, assuming camera and camcorder work (I'm headed out to Sea World with the wife and son today/tomorrow so I need a functioning camera).
Great job and great release. I'll report back more Monday night when I get home and have used it for a few days.

Great rom. I love the font and bootanimation. Wish the rom had a2sd.

OK, so after a few days use I'm noticing a few things.
Battery life seems to be average, nothing special. I hardly used it at all as I was on a small vacation (didn't make any phone calls, hardly text at all, didn't take pictures, surfed the web very very lightly) and my battery would very quickly drop to the 80's in % and beyond. Although, this could possibly be associated to my next thing.
When charging, light on top is green (fully charged) when it hits 90% battery. It does continue charging to 100% but I found that very odd that it turns green to indicate full when its at 90%...
As stated, the font is very nice too. Everything overall seems smooth, especially for a first release. I'd be nice to see new releases soon, of course with a change log etc.
Looking forward to see what is to come.

[Q] Best rom to use with lapdock?

Hey everyone, I just ordered one of those refurb lapdocks for $99 USD ($28 shipping to alberta
And I was wondering What was the best rom to use for a good lapdock experience
im using bell 2.3.4 cwm zip right now, is there a better rom/ webtop combination to use then stock?
In all honesty, the lapdock experience was rather shoddily put together by Motorola in the first place. Most ROMs do not come pre-packaged with webtop for this reason. I'm not so sure how effective trying the webtop on custom ROMs is without owning a lapdock myself (yet). From my understanding, HDMI mirroring has been a viable option for many. I hope to own a lapdock soon in hopes of contributing to improving the experience.
Im going to be using it mostly for very light word pro, music movies/TV shows and light browsing, Do I need a full debian distro for that or can I use the android apps with the lapdock for that stuff?
In your case, I would test drive purely stock ROM first to establish what to expect of the webtop environment. I don't think you would run into any problems with what you are going to use it for, but should you find something missing you might want to explore custom alternatives.
Be aware that most kernels available lock the CPU at its maximum speed in the lapdock environment. I can't remember if faux123 fixed this in his stopgap kernel or not, but that is the only big issue that comes to mind with custom ROMs

Above configuration took a fair amount of trial and error to get stable and flawless, but I am thrilled with the result.

Posting the same question multiple times is against XDA rules.
Nothing has changed, or else there'd be a bunch of threads/posts about it. You still can't use native webtop (the modified ubuntu one) on anything but the original stock GB ROM.

Closest thing to MIUI...

I'm looking for a rom that is similar to the Look of MIUI (obviously nothing will be very similar) but maybe something resembles it in some ways. I've recognized that there are 2 tpos of roms, the ones that follow the generic, gingerbread frame, or ICS frame (aokp, unamed, phonebricker, ICSrewed, CM7/9 etc.) and then MIUI, who kinda does their own design. I've been partial to MIUI ever since I laid my hands on it.
Reason why I'm asking for a look-a-like is because I've been running the scottish one for some time (1.11.9) but she's had the no service bug issue for some time now where everytime I attempt to make a call, 80% of the time it'll lose service and it takes like 4 tries or so till my call goes through. Unacceptable. Yet I can't keep myself away from the build. It's just so speedy. Wish I could have a more recent build for my I777 but I can't find one anywhere. I've also tried a million builds for the regular MIUI, 2.2.3 V2 being the most recent one I could find (I believe that's the most recent? I literally searched for hours), but this build also has the same call service drop bug. Can't stand it.
Can anyone help with my situation? Currently running MIUI V4 ICS, and it's sweet and all but it's wrecking my brain with how slow it isss . Anything similar to MIUI or help with a fix or newer version. Mucho appreciated!!!
Btw I'm no noob to flashing, have flashed at least 20 different roms and all, just wondering if there is anything I missed...in terms of what I'm looking for. Cus I hate settling.

Yeah I'm really looking for more than just a launcher though. I'm already aware of the creation of MIUI launcher and that's sweet but it doesn't encompass settings themes and notification draw down etc. I'm not super picky about that but I'd prefer everything to be uniform...so not gonna go with that method.

Hahah idk, I was reading up on all these bugs that I haven't really heard of in the general MIUI builds. I'm using it though and it's snappy pappy. Except going back from a conversation message, to just the conversation list. It reverts quickly, but the text doesn't load as quick as the transition. Annoyanceeeee lol. Idc though...sorta. Is good though. Is real good. Wondering if it's worth bumpin up to ICS V4 cus I didn't realize RIUI and AdyScorp were making roms like this. Trying to decide whether upgrading is worth the stupid notification swipe or not. So annoying.

MIUI sucks because it is so slow and in development. The only thing that is great about it is it's interconnected community and even app. Which is all JUST SHOW if you know how to flash your own ROMs.
If you want speed, battery, and best overall flawlessness I suggest: shostock!

It's the best. Just needs an android app so I know when it updates.

I have nothing against all the Samsung Touchwiz based Roms. I just plain don't like em. I have two things that I need personally, and that is speed, and an appealing look/design. Although CM7/CM9 can have a...functional/sophisticated look to them, they aren't quite as unique and sophisticated as the MIUI themes. Namely, CM is all very square and proper, while MIUI seems to be a little more accommodating if you will. I like to speed through things, and I'm particular about the way I do things. For example: when texting someone I like to send a text, then go back to the conversation list, so that when I get a new text I can see who it was from. I used UnNamed rom for a little bit (a month maybe) - and also tried ShoStock because I'd heard a lot about that too. I flashed it, but it basically seemed to be the same thing. Anyway when using unnamed there was obvious lag interface between the message system when I'd press back twice really quick after sending a text (once to close keyboard, once to close keyboard, another to go back to conversation list). MIUI is more smooth in it's transition and seems to have not necesarilly more poignant scirpting but mayhaps faster. I like MIUI's notification bar and status bar. I like how the notifications have a page and I can click my wifi, data, airplane mode, gps, rotation, and brightness all on the same page, without having to swipe left or right to find more. Mostly I'm a fan of the themes of course, since they simply look awesome. If you care so much move to AOKP, it's better than any Samsung Touchwiz Rom I've ever used, for that type of person. I love AOKP, but I can't seem to stand the crude looking toggles/switches, and the damn launcer (all 3 of them). I find app drawers to be very unnecessary (my own personal opinion - plenty of interpretations there). But I'm willing to further discuss this if you want haha. No mean to be insulting but you basically started the engagement

[Q] Can anybody help develop a PARANOIDANDROID ROM for our beloved TF201?

Really interested to flash that ROM onto my Prime. Just that there isn't one specifically made for our TF201. Anyone capable of doing it? Here's a guide posted by them themselves. Just that I'm not skilled in it. :x Thanks in advance to whoever that can help!

There wouldn't really be too much point as one of the main features of Parandroid is having tablet mode which.....errr you have as its already a tablet. A lot if work for something you already have.

Actually, part of why people like Paranoid Android so much is because of the ability to not only change modes (tablet, phablet, phone), but also set per-application DPI, size, and modes to change how each fragment operates.
Example: Youtube uses two modes (phone/tablet), and I like the phone mode better. But, I can't use it. Even restoring a phone APK of Youtube results in the tablet UI. PA lets you define Youtube and make it act like a phone!
That kind of flexibility is very powerful, and useful until we get powerful, properly built tablet apps with all of the features we desire. A lot of work? Sure. Possibly worth it? Definitely.

like what Akkeresu said below, it's not only the ability to change modes(although that's what I want most). And plus, who says I wanted tablet mode since I already have it? -.- I want it to look and feel like a Nexus 7. Which is only possible with this ROM as far as I know.

Actually no. The developer of PA quoted this, "no, but someone else can. if you have cm10 you can have pa aswell. it would run right away, theres barely any adjustments to make on our side and aosp is the same on any device anyway, no matter if phone or tablet." So yeah, he said it doesn't really need much tweaking from their side. Just hope someone can just help out to make this happen..:good:
Bump for curiosity' sake.
I think having these capabilities would be amazing,
Anyone willing to take this on?

I can do this quite easily as already have done it once for the prime.
The thing is I really don't have the time to keep remaking it constantly and re uploading new nightlies so if you wait a bit longer for some of the bugs to be ironed out I will knock one up but then I will only make a new one once a month or so.

I 've been looking for a way to get the Nexus 10 UI on my TF201 for like a week. Ofcourse I ended up nowhere. I can get all but the <back> <home> <app switcher> buttons to get in the middle of the bottom, and the rest of the status bar on the top. So during my search i came across the capabilities of the PA Rom. Sadly, I then discovered that the rom is not available for the TF201. Was ready to post in the Q&A section for "how to get the nexus 10 UI on the tf201" but figured i 'd take a look at this thread, and just saw your comment.
so.. in a nutshell, unless you can point me to the right direction (another direction; a way to get the Nexus 10 UI on the TF201) i 'm bumping the request posed with this thread, and ofcourse thanks for your willingness to develop!:good:
Why not just go one better and port Toasted Marshmallow?
