The tablet without dock charges at 5 Volts, 2 Amps. The dock charges at 15 Volts 1.2 Amps. I reckon this should work to charge the tablet. Please let me know if you decide to buy and if it works or not. Wonder if it's available in the UK.

No that will not work, its a 5V adapter and you need 11-15V.
It's not difficult to put together a car charger all you need is a few parts to make it work. I've laid out a charger and an adapter to charger from your car in my DIY charger thread. Don't let the DIY scare you, the parts you need are off the shelf and you don't have do modify anything. Head over to my thread and if you have any questions post them there. If you get a generic car DC adapte that has multiple plug adapters you just have to add a barrel to usb adapter which I have a link posted to Ebay where you can order it for about $4 shipped.

both tablet and dock charge at 15v 2 amps max. That adapter will charge battery, but will take all day with tablet off.

No. You'll need 11V+ to charge while using the device. You can only charge with normal usb2.x(5V) while the device is off. Also be prepared for it to take all day.
Devcake has the right idea, and his thread is certainly worth a look. Or for no fuss get a 175W inverter.

No and Yes. The USB ports on that adapter will supply 5V which will not work. The barrel connect will supply 12 which will work but you will have to make or find a barrel connector the same size as the one on that adapter to USB female. I have an example of what you need for a car adapter in my DIY charger thread. Check it out.

Hey, not trying to be a D, but this question should have been posted in the DIY charger thread. Clearly you were aware of it before making the new thread. All new threads do is make a mess, DevCake has been great about answering questions in his thread.
If you are looking for a car charger pretty much any USB iPad or iPad2 car charger is going to fit the bill. They have pretty much the same charging requirements as Android tablets.
Kensington PowerBolt Duo or PowerBolt Micro on Newegg for example. Look under the specs and you'll see it provides a 2.1amp port with a Output Voltage Range: 10 V DC to 18 V DC. You obviously won't need the charge cable that comes with it.

Not true. TF101 requires 11 volts but only about 800 or so ma, ipods/pads requre only 5v with a higher 2 amps.

dcmtnbkr is right, that adapter will not work. The confusion most people have is when they read 10-18V which is the input. Below are specs on that adapter
* 3.1 Amps total
* Input: 10V-18VDC
* Output (30pin/USB): 5VDC-3100mA
5 Volts DC is the output which will not work. You need 11-15V Output to charge the TF.

So I've been thinking - the TF has a power requirement of 5V/15v at 2/1.2A, which is the same requirement as the ipad. Really wouldn't see any reason why this wouldn't work so long as the charger has a usb port and you use your OEM cable.
Much easier finding chargers for ipads than the TF, for now. Have some home and car chargers on order and will post results later.
TF's charger requirement is 15V.

best buy has a usb charger that you can get, its called a dynex ultimate charger for cameras and camcorders. its like 30 bucks and charges at 11 volts / 1.5 amps. it works great. I had to get one when my usb charger melted. Its the only one that I have found to work. I tried around 30 of them lol

That was the first time I plugged the Transformer in. I didn't even get a full charge out of the thing.
The transformer charger can shift between [email protected] or [email protected]
I have confirmed with my multimeter that the voltage is 5V when charging the transformer
The [email protected] is to charge the keyboard dock, but do not own one to confirm
You can use other chargers, its just Asus's stupid smart charger makes the charging indicator comeup when using the official charger, it also chargers faster, need someone with an electrical background and an oscilloscope to probe it out
I have been meaning to do a test on charging times with different chargers
Overall, as long as the charger is [email protected] under (ex. [email protected]) It will charger, the Transfromer will not show it, but if you check on it the percentages goes up

I plugged my iphone 4 into the Asus block and it seems to charge fine. How safe it is, is another question entirely, but I can confirm it does charge the phone, and the thing didn't spontaneously explode or anything

I am always apprehensive when the item description is not consistent. The heading reads "5V 2A AC Adapter Charger for ipad 2 UK" whereas the output specs are 15V/5A as you stated...

I had reservations on getting the dynex charger but I hate only having charger for any unit I have. I bought it as a backup and cord lenght...lenght is very good. I received the transformer the next day from Amazon and saw the shortness of the stock cable. Brought out the dynex charger set it at. 11 volts and plugged it in and Viola...charges. 11 volts is lower then 15 but it still managed to charge from 29 percent to 100 in a acceptable and fairly good pace. I now use this charger over the stock because the stock charger gets really hot if used for a long time and I really don't feel comfortable. Using it.

I noticed that too but when I plug it in at night the next morning it's cool. I guess it heats up only when actively charging. Towards the end it should go down to trickle or no charge at all.

Has this been confirmed? I've tested voltage from a USB 3.0 cable from the Asus AC charger and saw 8V. I'll be testing while connected to the tablet once I get my extension cable in. Thread link in signature

The ASUS AC charger is normally working very close to it's limits when running off fairly stable AC mains. Running off this modified sine wave poorly regulated device may be enough to push it past its limits. If you want a good mobile solution that you can use for the TF and other small DC devices, search for the thread by Devcake where he lists options and actual reviews.

Does your TF indicate charging, e.g. with Dual Battery Widget, using this bullet charger?
E.g. If it outputs 11V-12V it should indicate charging on the TF, but if less than 11V, say 5V-10V, it would trickle charge only (no indicator).
I got one from same guy, and it does not work. I measured 2.8V output.

Mine arrived today. I hooked it up to 12v and tested the pins, got 2.8v. Then plugged i transformer and waited about 20 seconds. The transformer said it was charging on AC. I havent checked to see how quickly it was charging, but it gave the charging indication with the screen on.
EDIT: Tried it on another vehicle and now won't charge. Weird!

This one arrived today, there is one small issue with it, when you first plug it in the lighter the blue light gets bright and the asus orange light goes on and eventually green showing also the charging symbol, but if you unplug the cable from the charger and plug back in, it wont work, you have to unplug the charger from the lighter and plug back in. weird... But it works

OK, let's go over this again. The TF will charge with 5V at 1.5 amp but take forever to do so. The amps has nothing to do with it. It is the volts. If you feed the TF with 11V to 15V at 1.5 amp's or more it goes into the fast charge mode and charges in about 2 hrs. Anything that says 5V will charge the TF if you have several days to wait. If you have just hours you must charge using 11 to 15 volts at 1.5 amp or more to charge with. This is what the original power supply is doing. Please look at the specifications printed on the original charging brick. Note that it has dual outputs 5V and 15V if you plug your phone into the ASUS charger the charger is smart enough to know not to output 15V however when you plug in the TF the charger outputs 15V to charge the TF in the speedy mode.
Please read over "Dvecakes" thread for even more details and items you can use to charge the TF on the go and at home.

Firstly, how many cells is the Lithium battery in the tablet? In other words what is the voltage of the battery at full charge?
It looks like it requires a 12V adaptor to charge, so that means you couldn't use the wall adaptors for like a smartphone like the Droid X that puts out 5v at 1A?

I think I read that it needs to be a wall charger, wont charge from the pc since it needs 12v to charge.
That's a little inconvenient I wish I could have gotten that external battery as a backup...

YES, I ordered the TF101 charge on December 8 taking a gamble that it was the same for the TF201. I received the keyboard on Dec 21 which I have charged with this charger. I also ordered up a couple of the 5ft USB cables. My PRIME arrives today.
Just looking to confirm what I think I've deduced from the forum.
I can't charge my transformer when it's on or asleep with a standard USB charger, correct? I've invested in 2 different 2.0+ Amp 5V USB supplies and none seem to get the charge going on the Transformer. It sounds like I could turn OFF the unit and trickle charge it (by the way would the 2.0A charger be of any benefit in this circumstance?). It also sounds like the ASUS charger gives off 12V and that's what the Tranformer is expecting to get the charge going, right? If so, I'm definately dissappointed that ASUS went this approach- non-standard. I always like extra chargers for traveling and throughout the house and this has limited me. Anyway, if someone would be so kind as to reply to this and confirm I've read the threads correctly, I'd appreciate it.
The ASUS charger is 15V.
5V isnt nearly enough. If you got it powered OFF, you might be able to get it to full (from empty) in a few days (yes, days).
The TF can be charged normally with 10-15V.
I suggest you read this thread to get some other ideas.

First... The real wall charger is 15v 1.2A. So the 2 amp is just bs...
Second... A usb 2.0 cable transfer power just as "quick" (wut?) as a usb 3.0.
The reason you need a 3.0 cable is because the charger is looking for connection on a pin only present on a usb 3.0 cable. If you dont use a usb 3.0 cable the wall charger will only send 5V.
This is done this way so you can use the wall charger for other devices apart from the TF.
You can open the charger up and bridge 2 connections to make it send 15v all the time. Then you can use a usb 2.0 cable just fine.
Please, try not to spread false information.

Ahhh i see i read on the android forums that it was because the usb 2 didnt "move enough energy" i didnt realize it was because of a pin in the actual wall charger thanks for clearing that up

You can open the charger up and bridge 2 connections to make it send 15v all the time. Then you can use a usb 2.0 cable just fine.

Before you correct people how about you do your research first.
Actually if you read the wall plug it is a 15v 2-1.2A. You can DIY a charger as long as it can produce 11v+ at 1.2A-2A and will trigger the charge functions within the tab. USB 3.0 is only required with the stock charger.
Dynex sold "The Ultimate Charger DX-UA" that had a MAX setting of 11v but when tested actually produced 11.7v at 1.7A. I was able to find one but they are rare now bc they haven't been making them for over a year now. It comes with aton of adapters one being a USB. I use it often without issue.
Also they sell on Ebay USB car charger adapters rated at 12v at 2.0A I own one of these also and it works great with the stock cable.

+1, I've been using the same charger for about a year myself. Also without any issues whatsover.
You can still find them on eBay occasionally.

Actually I think youre the one who should read the text on the wall plug.
It clearly says "15v - 1.2A". the 2A is for 5v. Not 15. 5.

If they don't KNOW whether the information they are posting is true or false, then they shouldn't be posting it at all. That's just common sense.
I noticed a lot of people want a fast charger for the Note. This charger is for the Touchpad. I have this and it works really well. It charges faster than the OEM charger that came with the Note.
Not to mention, it is on sale right now for less than $5. Go grab one. From past experience, I used this at 15% battery life and charged for an hour and I was back over to 80%.:victory:

Yes, it is a micro USB cable. One end is USB and other is micro USB. The cable length is longer than most phone cables. I haven't measured it, but from my plug to my desk, I still have excess cable compared to the original one from the phone.

This have been discussed hundreds time before....
That 1amp is the output of the charger which forwards the current to kernel of the device... NOTE can only intake 1 amp current... ( remove your battery and read the dam sticker :thumbup
Even though you will supply 2 3 4 5 amp... The maximum in would be 1 amp ONLY...
SECONDLY, micro usb cables have a restriction of carrying current... They cannot pass more than 1 amp current successfully... Therefore galaxy tab series does not come with micro usb slots....
Lastly my recommendation would be NOT to waste money on any other chargers...

It has been discussed, but it DOES charge faster than a conventional 1amp charger. If you don't have the charger and have nothing to compare with, then I don't think you can say it does not work.
Go check FCC about the charge. Also, the cables provided DOES carry a 2amp charge. Our note can handle fast charging but throttles down to a slower charging rate after 80%.

Ipads and Iphones have the same connector but yet one has a 1amp charger and the other a 2amp charger.

Firstly, I have tried to use with a 2amp charger that came with my SGT P1000.. NO DIFFERENCE...
SECONDLY, PULL OUT BATTERY AND READ!
Google for micro usb cable max output... You will get your answers...

You don't have to get your panties in a twist. Rather than just read forums and assume the worst of everything try it for yourself. I've tried both and it is faster. Just trying to help my fellow Note users to get the best out of their phones.

As an HP TouchPad owner, I can confirm that the cable provided with the charger are 'special'. My TP will not charge with any other MicroUSB cable connected to the official charger, the same cables which won't charge the TP will charge the Note. (I also own the HP touchstone dock, which the TP spends most of it's life sitting on.)

I have four different wall chargers, including two of this HP barrel adapter (one that came with the TouchPad, one that came with the Touchstone). With the supplied cable, it does charge the TouchPad very quickly. From webOS, the net charge rate is about 1.6 A with the screen on, so probably close to 2 A coming out the USB port.
However, when you plug a Note into this charger, the Note will still only draw 1 A. I have other AC chargers that are also able to supply 1 A to the Note, so in that respect this HP charger isn't anything special. However, it is only $5, which is a good deal.

I've found that the microUSB cable that comes with the Note, when paired with the HP TouchPad's AC charger, will supply 2 A. At least, that's what the OS reports: /sys/devices/platform/usb_gadget/current-mA shows "2000". Plugging the TouchPad into the Note's AC charger shows a value of "900". Plugging it into my laptop's USB port drops that value down to "500", as expected.
I bought two a week ago off Amazon for $10 each. $5 each with free shipping is a steal. I picked up three more. Thanks for posting this deal. I get 1A charging with either the stock charger or TP charger. I like to have a few extra chargers to sprinkle around at home or work (for my Note and the other devices I own that charge off USB.... including a TP).

When you charge your phone using this HP microUSB cable, do you have issue with NO DEEP SLEEP when unplugging the Note from the charger?
There has been issues reported in XDA where, depending on the USB cables used to charge the Note (connected to computer OR power charger), if you unplug the Note, it will not go DEEP SLEEP, causing significant power drain.
This does NOT happen when the Note is charged using the cable that came with the Note.
Download Current Widget from the play store. Add widget to home screen and you will realize that your phone is not charging any more than 1 amp as designed.
Try the usb out from your pc and you will see about half an amp.

I have the galaxy tab brick charger the HP touch pad charger and my note charging brick....the touchpad charger works faster...but I feel like it doesn't get fully charged..seems to die faster?. I used the galaxy tab brick...slow to charge warms my phone up nicely...I'd stick with the original note charger.

I charge my Note overnight using my Touchpad's MicroUSB cable plugged into the Samsung charger, and I don't experience any difference in power drain.
Where is that post from the guy who put all these petty arguments to rest with scientific tests of all the various options and results??
