[Q] Is anyone actually happy with their Galaxy S II - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

With so many issues being moaned about, it's difficult to be motivated to actually purchase this handset, let alone be excited for it to arrive, fearing the disappointment
I thought it'd be a nice diversion to have a thread for those who are actually happy with their device to let others know that it's not all doom and gloom!
So, please, if you're happy with your handset, please let everyone know!

As per similar posts 110% happy .

I am happy with my Galaxy S II.

It is like in every other Forum or discussion, there is always way more negative feedback than positive. People just like to complain

As the maker of the similar post our mate here refers to..i am 70-30 happy for now..It would have been the best phone i ever owned, easily if it werent for the misserable battery life..my galaxy s 1 had easily 2-3 times more..other than that, its lightning fast, plays flash content unlike anything i have ever seen on a mobile device its really thin and light and the GPS actually works...I am going to hold on to it till they release 2.3.4 ..if this does not fix the disgracing battery life i am going to have to return it..

I am very happy with my S2

For the price I paid ... 70% happy.

110% happy with mine. You tend to find people with no problems have little reason to post threads saying they are happy. Whereas the small percentage that have issues will post in an attempt to resolve their issues. This is basic human nature and common with any product not just the SGS2.

Agree, and it seems even worse when people keep making daily new threads about those same issues.
Happy with mine, only slight - is the battery but with my spare one I really can't complain, when it takes 30 secs to switch and restart the phone.

Who's moaning? Generaly what I see is that people are very pleased with their handsets. It's just, like always, there are some minor points which need improving. Some of which can be done through software updates and for others we need to wait for the S3.

For everyone who talks about these problems, and just read this.
So what? Some might have a tiny yellow line when the brightness is low, and others may have a minor problem with the battery.
But now, think about how great and fast the phone really is, and stop thinking about these minor problems above you barely notice.
So yeah, I love my GS2. It awesome.

super happy . totally love it . From htc camp .
sg2 all the way

Have a browse through any forum on XDA and you'd struggle to believe anyone is actually happy with their handset. Unfortunately the internet is where everyone comes to moan and complain, be it about phones, tablets or socks!
99% of people turn to forums in search of problem resolution, so it is a disproportionate representation you see when looking through. Have you ever been compelled to come online and create a thread to simply say, "Phone is Awesome!"
You know what, I'll say my part......
"Phone is Awesome"
Regards.

I am 98% happy with this phone.
2% - I am coming from dell streak and miss the 5inch screen and already going back

This is my first Android experience. I upgraded from iPhone 3G which was, with the most current OS, not running properly.
If I use my Galaxy S2 like I did my iPhone, with all communications services running, then my phone lasts less than one day. Recharging the battery takes so much time as well, typically 3-5 hours time. I was at a street festival yesterday and wanted to take a few photos. I launched the camera app and it warned me I didn't have enough disk space (I also have an almost empty 32GB microSD card installed). There are no settings to save photos to the SD card by default. All of a sudden, today, the camera app is now saving photos to the SD card... couldn't it have chosen that option yesterday, when I wanted to take photos? For me the GPS isn't working that well.

Very happy camper here!

Galaxy S2 A Victim Of Its Own Popularity?

Is it just me or is the Galaxy S2 a victim of its own popularity in the fact that it has so many moaners? I'm completely satisfied with my White GS2, autobrightness is a bit poor but that's not a big deal to me. I've owned a few Android phones,
HTC Tattoo.
HTC Desire.
ZTE Blade.
Motorola Defy.
HTC HD2 (with Android obviously)
Sony X10i.
This phone has been my best experience with an Android phone so far. I used to be a fan of Sense but i feel Touchwiz is BETTER! I think the main problem is the happy users (The majority!) don't feel the need to speak up about it whereas many unhappy users want to make their voice heard. There are people actually saying they HATE this phone on these forums...if that is the case why are they hanging around? Sell the phone and leave the forums
I guess when a device sells as well as the GS2 you do end up with a lot of users who bought the phone simply because it's the most popular currently and they haven't done their research prior to buying or upgrading.
That, and the age-old problem that people very very rarely make the effort just to say "My [insert item here] is awesome, that is all." They more often use the effort to moan.
I bloody love my SGS2, best phone I've ever had. Makes everything else look like a poor cousin, even to the point that I don't feel the need to root at the moment - I had to root my Desire not long after I had it to love it this much!
I had the (mis?)fortune to get a play around with an IPhone 4S the other day, and the SGS2 feels so far ahead it's not even funny anymore.
I had to root my Desire for one simple reason. More space for apps. A2SD!
Is it just me or is the Galaxy S2 a victim of its own popularity in the fact that it has so many moaners?

And far too many inexperienced user who dont know how to utilise the phone properly, refuse to read and educate themselves or look for the slightest error and go nuts with it
I think its also wanting to feel part of something (ie this forum/community)....so by posting threads it validates their time on this forum...pretty sad really
I think phones like this should come with a rating of some kind like movies do....
agreed with all the above, the phone is by far and away the best I've owned, had a x10i before which was good, arc and arc s didn't inspire me, Galaxy s2 blown me away to the point I don't really want to root/flash unless there is any real advantage to do it.....as asked in another post, looks like it's worth a flash to the latest stock rom which is what I'll do, at least I know I'll get the updates from sammy direct when released without having to wait for 02
Darkside i love that rating comment but what i love even more is your signature. That comment is pure gold.
kp it is definitely worth flashing an up to date stock rom without a doubt. Carrier updates are a joke for all devices.

Sorry for the OT....
The way I see it there are 3 groups of people
1 - Those who have a faulty handset myself being 1 of them with WiFi issues, poor battery, low volume to name but a few.
2 - Those who don't have a faulty handset
3 - The fanboys who even if it was faulty they would never admit it.
Well those in group 1 need to return and get a replacement or a different phone. Those in group 3 need to wake up.
And let me add,
4. Those who really aren't that bright or lead a very pessimistic life
Is this a "Brit" only forum?
Just kidding, You guys are on target. The phone stock is GREAT and if you have a bug or two, well rooting and a few choice apps can make your phone even more awsum. Just taking the time to say that my Epic touch is GREAT!!!!
---Live long and prosper---
The SGSII is my first smartphone and obviously my first android phone too. I'm loving it and I don't have any issue to moan about (so far).
Great sig Darkside

Agree - I love this phone and the android community, but there are quite a few whining idiots around.
That said, we're still wayyyyyyyyyy better off than the iPhone 4S crowd. Lots of morons complaining there, and worse, they can't even do anything about it. iOS doesn't allow half the tweaks and hacks Android lets us do, especially if not jailbroken

The Bootloader unlock tool isnt released just yet. Asus announced it will come in february so it should be here soon. But until then there are no custom roms, but there are some kernel mods in the dev section that enable Overclock. Also check out the keyboard mod from diamondback.
What you should also know, atm this forum is full of people that are not happy with the prime and complain alot. Even though polls and numbers from ASUS show that over 80-90% are very happy customers those other 10-20% cry really loud, especially on this forum
So dont take it too seriously and enjoy your prime.

What do you mean by this?
What you should know about the tablet is it is great. The best tablet on the marker right now IMO. One thing is there are seemingly high amounts of issues but there is really no hard, reliable data on how many they effect. Sure there are numbers thrown around here and there but take them all with a grain of salt. That said it would be prudent for you to test out and use all the features you plan on using during ownership and ensure it does everything you expected. If not either look for a way to make it do what you need or take care of it how you see fit. Keeping it knowing that it doesn't do what you need and later crying about it helps noone.
I love mine and use it everyday for a plethora of things. It has exceeded my expectations of it and does more than I ever expected to do with it. It has totally replaced the need for me to carry around a full featured laptop and the battery life on it makes it superior to one for my use.
I answered your question then was silenced (post removed). Which proves my previous point.
I highly doubt anyone replacing a "full featured" laptop with a prime. Sure you can, but that would imply you didn't use the laptop to its full potential and prolly spent way more than you ever needed to on the laptop = overkill, prime = sensible. If you can justify $500 or $600 w/o the dock to begin w.
BTW, at least I didn't flame the op w "you need to learn how to read! there's a search button for a reason, blah blah blah"

I don't need the services of a fully featured laptop on the go. Reading comprehension much? I happen to be a software developer so have plenty of computers and computing power at many of my destinations and when truly on the go can get to them anywhere I have wifi. For my usage, yes it does fully replace it. You don't walk in others shoes so know absolutely nothing about their usage scenarios leaving you absolutely clueless about any judgment you make upon them.

I'm in the same position as the OP . (Just got mine yesterday). Played with Windows smartphones, but this is my first Android machine and tablet. I have a number of questions:
1)What's the difference between the unlock tool and "rooting"? I thought they were the same thing.
2) Ad-hoc network on the Prime - Reading thru posts, it seems Android doesn't recognize Ad-hoc networks. Others have made "mods" for Froyo, and others say it didn't work on Gingerbread, so I'm assuming I'd have difficulty with ICS. Does anyone have a suggestion on where to look for a workable solution for the Prime + ICS?
Ad-hoc networking (thru my Verizon TouchPro 2/Win6.5+SSK ROM) smartphone is going to be my access to the internet when away from home.
I know I can search, but since Prime is so new, most posts refer to other devices, I'm hoping someone can save me days of searching.
Thanks in advance.

Enable/Disable Fast Dormancy

To Enable/Disable Fast Dormancy on ICS add the appropriate line to your build.prop. build.prop can be found in system/app folder. To edit just press on build.prop and then edit with a text editor. Place the edit at the very bottom of your build.prop.
Enable: ro.ril.fast.dormancy.rule=1
Disable: ro.ril.fast.dormancy.rule=0
You do not add the word Enable:/Disable: just add ro.ril.fast.dormancy.rule=#
I know I already posted this on another thread but a lot of people (not all) do not read the threads but still wanna know the fix so I thought it would be easier to start another thread and put it in the first post so nobody has to search for an answer. Fast Dormancy is believed to save battery life when disabled.

Cause I assume with all the threads about Fast Dormancy on XDA and many other sites most people have heard of it and know what it is used for. I can give an explanation but you can also ask for an explanation or simply do a google search. Here is a link about Fast Dormancy that gets strait to the point about why people wanna use this feature on the I717 Note. Read the last paragraph.

I know what it is.. but as you see you had a member ask if its supposed to be enabled or disabled...it just helps a little more when making threads to perhaps explain what it is.. or what it could do..Just helps the inexperienced users to learn..

On Android 2.#.# there is a few simple way to turn it on and off but on ICS its not as simple. I'm thinking about making a script so that it can be turned on and off at anytime.
Just thought I might add, the "huge battery improvements" have no credibility for the most part unless screen on times are included. 60+ hours means nothing if you're only getting like 2 or 3 hours of screen on time. OP or whoever has done this build prop edit should run a few tests with and without it enabled and show the great increase in screen on time, or most people will continue to be confused about this.
That being said, I can see where it can increase standby battery life, but I doubt that it makes much of a difference in screen on time, which is what matters most to anybody who has a charger on hand every night.
*******edit******** meant to post this in the bounty thread about fast dormancy where the op hasn't done anything but complain and make ridiculous claims without much proof.

Actually, no, you still haven't shown anything regarding screen on time, which is arguably the best indicator of battery life. My note could get 30 hours bone stock if I barely used it. I get about 14-15 hours with almost 4 hours of screen on time in a usual day, and haven't touched fast dormancy. Show me your 30 hours with 4 hours of screen on time, and I'll eat my words.
In the mean time, you should probably grow up a little, as we like to keep things mature and civil around here. Also, you should probably get on with paying that 25 dollar bounty you posted; its only fair to porkenheimer and the guy who unbricked you.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
ok here we go... first I have nothing I need to prove to you. My every day use is generally the same. Prior to FD being disabled, I would get a total of 12 to 15 hours of batter between charges. Now its 30 hours plus. Thats good enough for me and anyone else who cares.
Secondly, I dont know of many phones (especially this size) that four hours plus of continuous on screen time is going to get there.
as for the bounty, I ask for a dev to come up with a solution and I will gladly split it between the two. But I find it funny that you and so many truly doubt its value so does that mean they really deserve a bounty.
And I might remind you, I am grown up but you were the first to make baseless accusations in a thread I wasnt even a participant in. Talk about an unfair fight or is that your M.O.
ta ta
P.S. do some thread searching on me. The same results were posted (even better) when I had my international note
P.S.S. purely ridiculous what goes on over trying to extend our battery life. You would think we are debating world peace. up...tight.........
I will once again charge over night and run a FULL cycle and then post. If you eat or dont eat I could care less but at least others can decide for themselves

Again, you have said nothing about your screen on time with it enabled vs. disabled. For all anybody knows, you just got more conscious about conserving battery once you have it disabled on a device, and a little conservation can go a long ways in improving standby time if you have very little screen on time. Screenshots prove legitimate improvements of screen on time, of which, you have provided none. You can say your battery life increased as much as you want, but unless that screen on time improves, you haven't said much. And if you would have read my first post, I meant to post it in your thread but made a mistake. My intention wasn't to go behind your back. And as far as I'm concerned, my accusations are more based in fact from my experience with my past two androids and their forums regarding battery life than your claims of ridiculous battery life are. Screen on time matters because your screen is on when you're using your phone. Anybody who lives in a modern city with access to a power outlet could give a hoot about your standby time increasing, as that's most likely the case. And about the bounty, somebody did come up with a solution. And people question the legitimacy because they haven't seen solid, set in stone, improvements that are proven...hell, most people don't know what it is.
All I asked for was some screen time values, and a comparison of enabled vs. disabled with respect to screen time, that is all. You can either oblige, or I guess I'll try it myself. No need to argue and clutter up porkenhimer's thread.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk 2
I am not going to oblige you. I think you are perfectly capable of running your own test. If you feel what I have given so far is inconclusive, bogus or usefulness to everyone else then your entitled to that opinion. This is still a place where others can try the same course I took and if they get a result then great. if they dont then its a failure.
But your decision to deride it unless it has an a-b is just that, another accusations. I have said at least three or four time for me I have seen major increases in the time between charges. Perhaps your basis of "we all know putting on a charger every night" is the sole argument why you think this isnt valid. Again, others are free to decide not you.
Thats it for me folks. Carry welchertc all you want but I think from my perspective I have said all I care to address with you.

Thats it for me folks. Carry welchertc all you want but I think from my perspective I have said all I care to address with you.

no sides to take mate. Try it and if it works great, if not you can easily turn it back on
I'll just be blunt and ask: what was your screen-on time during the 30 hours?
Screenshots would be cool, too.
I'm genuinely curious!

Problems....

Why are their sooooooo many people having problems with their S3?? I've had mine since launch day and cannot see any flaws what so ever. "my screens flickering" "pink tint on my screen" "laggy" you obviously done something wrong to have these problems....i don't mean to sound a knob but all I ever see is people having problems and possibly nit picking at stuff that isn't important

Well said!
I'm **** sick of seeing people complaining about stupid things. Non-problems 99% of the time.
Look at the latest one, some guy complaining about icon spacing. Wtf.
If the s3 forum is gonna be like this then I'm not gonna involve myself in it and stick to just the galaxy nexus forum.
This video says it all.

Its just ridiculous mate....they've obviously done something to have all these problems. My wifi works just fine, I have no issues with my display, the RAM usage is fine, and I couldn't give a **** about the icon spacing lol

You guys have to remember that these type of forums seem to amplify the size of problems.
Also, the phone is not completely free of bugs and defects CAN and WILL happen. It's a normal part of the manufacturing process for some things to have less than stellar quality. Don't call bluff on everything.

Come on guys play nice here. Not everyone's a tech head and simple problems to some can be like rocket science to others, and insulting a new member cos you don't like the question is just wrong.

Yeah, this.
On a forum like this, people are more likely to post about problems that they are experiencing with their device.
Imagine a forum full of posts like: OMG I have 23 apps open at the same time while watching a 1080p YouTube video and it's so smooth wow lol I love this phone it's so much faster than my girlfriends iPhone lol
If you're having a problem with your new phone, you make a post about it, hoping that someone more knowledgeable will help you out. If you are enjoying the phone in your everyday life and it's working well, nobody really makes random posts about that, do they?
Some people do have problems. Just because YOUR phone isn't laggy doesn't mean that there is no lag in any Galaxy S III device out there. Just because YOUR camera works doesn't mean that some people might have problems with camera force closing. And so on...
Of course, some people just are never happy - there are those as well!

Please be mature, this in quite important for me

Greetings, everyone. As you can see, I'm from the One X forums, and I have come in peace. I came here for one reason only, to ask the Galaxy S3 users of their experiences, but please don't make it long. But don't misunderstand me as I am loving my HOX, reaches 5+ hours od screen time with normal to a bit hard usage too. Anyways, have you ever, even for just a few moments, had a feeling of doubt and regret after using your phones for a time? I'm sking because I feel this sometimes too, and am asking myself whether to buy an S3 or not. Btw, please don't be offensive. I tried to be as polite as I could.
EDIT: Forgive the typo in the title

I'm not being rude but there are multiple threads where you can join the debate on which is best....in general section. But I can assure you that the whole thing just goes round and round in circles and you will end up feeling suicidal after a while.
And this thread is bound to attract some moderate level of barbequeing! Good luck

I see, but the whole point that I wanted to point out was to simply ask whether for just a moment, has anyone felt, even if it's just a tiny little feeling of doubt or regret after some time with their devices. A simple yes or no could suffice. But HONESTY must be at hand, too. I would apologize however if some of you would just find this useless and start saying how the S3 is better. A yes or no is all I need, I would do the counting myself. But some few explanations of your answer would also be great

I don't regret coming to the S3 from the One X except the One X is a better looking device imo

I love my S3 and it`s bleeding fast but the screen of the HOX is better than ours. That said the S3 has much better batterylife, removable battery, sdcard slot, better cpu as said and i like touchwizz better than sense, alltough i don`t use ( Nova Prime). I have had the HOX also so i can compare i think. Both are good devices with their pros and cons.
I like HTC indeed i had a HD2 probably the most hacked and "liked" phone ever on XDA, the One X is indeed almost on a par with this phone but no removable battery or no micro sd card facility meant i could not consider it over the Galaxy S3 and coming from an Galaxy S2 i was always gonna get the Galaxy S3.
I'm running Supernexus stable Jelly Bean on my Galaxy S3 and it is blazing fast and super smooth, too early to post about battery life as i only flashed it yesterday but when i had Android Revolution and CheckRom i could too get over 5 hours screen on time.
To conclude i would say the top 2 smartphones on the market in order are
1 - Samsung Galaxy S3
2 - HTC One X
My brother is having issues with his HTC one X while my SGS3 is fine as ever. Does that make you think otherwise?

Well the s3 is my first ever smartphone. it feels a lot more plasticky than the s2 and the back cover feels like its gona break every time i need to pull the battery. my friends love the take picture while you shoot video feature.
At first I was shocked by the battery life since i was used to my nokia mobiles lasting upto 3 days with a single charge.
I got over this quickly as i began to realize the s3 is actually a powerful mini pc. if ur a heavy user it makes complete sense to buy a spare battery.
The stock rom was slooooow. full of bloatware. ram management could give me at best 190MB. when i realized that in addition to this i couldnt install firewalls that was the last straw.
I came to xda and studied the rooting process, and eventually installed cyanogenmod 9 on it. boots take just as long but i now get upto 420mb free ram. i was a bit turned off by the 'no camera flash, no fm, no hdmi' feature (or lack thereof) of the mod but got over this the moment the boot animation played out. besides the camera is fixed in the new nightlies, i can use spirit fm and i had hdmi out in my last 2 phones n never bothered to use it.
I'm never going back!!!
