I got the keyboard to show by going to /Settings/Language & Keyboard/HTC_IME mod settings/User Interface and changing the Key width adjust and Key height adjust. It actually didn't matter what I changed them to, I just iterated through 5, 10 and 15px, and after a few changes the keyboard just appeared. (Don't forget to Kill keyboard in order for the changes to take effect; also in the HTC_IME mod settings).
The only thing not working for me right now is the vibration feedback when a key is pressed. All necessary settings seem to be in place, but I haven't gotten it to work yet.

Didn't work for me. I went through 5, 10, and 15. killing the keyboard each time. Then went through the entire list from 0-15 killing the keyboard after every change. Still couldn't get it to popup. Are you using the hires froyo from the htc_ime mod thread?

Yes. I actually tried both htc_ime_jonasl_hires_27.zip and htc_ime_jonasl_hires22_27.zip, and at this point I'm not sure which is the one that's working. I'm assuming it is the 22_27 version, but I may be mistaken.
Did you try both?

I ended up getting it to work by going through the gimpsta themer and selecting the optimus option in the high res kitchen. It shows just fine without tweaking it, but it does fill the screen in portrait. In landscape it works perfectly. So I am going to tweak the xmls to see if I can make it fit. Did you install clicker_hi.apk for the haptic feedback? Its working on mine.

The keyboard is displaying properly in both portrait and landscape mode for me.
And I did install clicker_hi, but I'll give it another try...

Htc_ime and gingerbread on eris.. Help!

Okay. The gingerbread keyboard is just garbage. I cant figure out how to get the htc_ime keyboard on my phone. Ive downloaded the lowres and clicker apks. Change keyboard inputs and it just force closes. Ive tried installing different ways with no luck.
Anyone have any ideas?
Im currently running on my gsb 1.7 gingerbread rom on my never dead eris
Go to gimpsta.com and choose the froyo build and you can either make you own or use a premade one used it before on v1.6 and it worked great.

It's not a flashable zip. Just a regular old zip file. Unzip and click apk to install.
To select, checkmark in settings; lanuage+keyboard then open keyboard. GB will stll come up. Long press setting key, choose select input, and choose HTC IME.

get swype!!
Can't get it to work either
I had this working on xtrSENSE before, but now it won't work since I reflashed it. Normally, I hold MENU until it prompts me to choose a keyboard. This time, it always defaults to the stock keyboard. On 2.1, you cannot choose the keyboard through Settings > Language & keyboard.
This thing has a hard time rebooting too, so I don't want to turn it off. If I have to reboot or factory reset then I will, but it's a pain in the neck.

[Q] Gingerbread Keyboard .. Spacebar and Period

Ok Getting tired of this.. I Hate HTC keyboard, but I love Gingerbreads.. However I hate the Fact that when I text someone or type its looks like this :
hello.this.is.a.test to. see what.happens
The Perioid is in the way or the spacebar needs to be bigger I cant decide? Anyone else have this issue?
I Tried using swype but I dont have the Patients for it. Its a great concept just not for me? Any Solutions out there?
Is there anyway to get the OG Droids soft keyboard layout on the Tbolt?
I don't know what's wrong with your keyboard but I'm typing this on gingerbread keyboard and its working fine. I don't have any issues with it. I have also used Swype but for some reason, lately it doesn't seem to figure out what I'm trying to swype so I switched to this keyboard and have been quite happy.

I'm the same way. The only respite I've found is from using other keyboards from the market. Just look around and try some different ones, and find out which works best for you.
I found that if I make the settings key always hide and move the mic key to the symbols page it makes the spacebar a bit longer and easier to hit w/o touching the period. might be worth a shot for you guys.

Settings > language & keyboard > gb keyboard > voice input
You also might want to try out swiftkey, as I haven't had any issues with it. It is leaps and bounds better than the stock keyboard.
is there a way to change the "done" button to "send" like in the regular froyo keyboard? annoying to have to press the "done" button and select "send" in the next screen.
UPDATE: Noticed this only happens in landscape mode. Regular view shows "send" key and "attachment key". what gives? is this a flaw in the app?

Nothing beats Swiftkey. Most ingenious keyboard around and works as well as advertised. I just don't like that sometimes it lags as it pulls predictions from my history. Maybe because I have so many SMS?
The trick with the mic and settings key (set to always hide) worked! Thanks. I like the GB keyboard for a change of pace.

This. And I hid the voice and settings buttons to make the spacebar bigger. But I am using swiftkey, its better in my opinion. The prediction engine is excellent and saves me from typing at all.

[Q] Tap-to-focus doesn't work - I'm running Cyanogen 7

So I put Cyanogen 7 on my Galaxy S II. My tap-to-focus doesn't work in the camera though. I tried looking through the settings but can't fix it. The camera focuses only after I press the button to take the picture. Please help.
Because CM7 is AOSP derived, to the best of my knowledge, AOSP doesn't have that feature. Features like that are incorporated.
I had a samsung moment from sprint that was "vanilla android" and it couldnt do it either so im basing my assumptions off that.
Somebody please correct me if im wrong

I went to advanced settings as well and the only two focus options it gives me is Pre Focus and Long Focus, neither of those solves the issue.
The only way I kinda solved the issue is i downloaded the MIUI camera. That lets me tap-to-focus but I don't like the layout of it. I want the camera app that is given in CM 7 to work right.

Off
Touch
Fixed

I think some screen shots are going to be needed to make sure there's no confusion. Please post screen shots while in the camera app showing your available options.

Ok well I re-flashed CM 7.1 from the Cyanogen website, the most up-to-date ROM and the camera still won't tap-to-focus and doesn't give me the option in the settings. If someone has any idea what it could be I would be pretty happy...it's frustrating.

just curious, but what did you do?
step by step, including links to the files you downloaded.
did you verify the checksum?

MOD - [ROOT REQUIRED] use volume keys to move cursor in txt field

@dwitherell made an awesome mod that I have used in other ROMs and have not seen for the V20. So, I asked him if he could make it for the V20. All credit goes to him.
The mod lets you use your volume keys to move the cursor back and forth while you are in a txt field. It is very helpful when you type a long txt, for instance, and you realize you need to edit it. It's much easier to use the volume keys than to try to get the cursor where you need it with your finger. The mod involves some changes to the framework.jar file in /system/framework/. To make it work, you just need to replace the current framework.jar file with the one you DL from the following link and reboot. The first reboot takes a long time. It will go to the "Android is starting" screen and take a while to complete. Be patient. It is a good idea to keep a backup of the original framework.jar file.
I have only tested this on the WETA ROM for TMO. However, it should work on any TMO ROM where the framework.jar has not already been modified. I confirmed with @NotATreoFan that his ROM has an unmodifed framework.jar file. So, this should work on his ROM, at least on TMO.
I do not know if the mod will work on v20 ROMs for other carriers other than TMO. You could probably do a CRC compare of the stock TMO framework.jar and the one in your ROM to be sure. If the files are the same, the mod should work.
If it works on your non-TMO ROM, let me know.

I had the same question before I first used it. When not in a txt field,. which is most of the time, volume controls work totally normally. It should work any time you are able to type. It just works. Note that you will need to re-replace the framework.jar file every time you flash your rom (unless the dev decides to bake in the modified jar file).

Definitely gone give this a spin
I appreciate the mod from Dwitherell so I'm definitely not trying to downplay it or anything, but just thought I'd mention this for anyone who uses SwiftKey and doesn't know about it already (or anyone else who might want to try it)..
SwiftKey keyboard has an option in it's settings called "arrow keys" (which is not enabled by default) that adds a row of up, down, left, and right arrow keys across the bottom of the keyboard, which allow you to navigate the cursor throughout your text.
I know everyone has their own preferences so to each their own of course but imho it basically eliminates the problem this mod was made for, and for me at least whenever I try different keyboards always wind up switching back to SwiftKey because I'm so use to having the arrows. Anyway hope it helps

Yes. I have used the arrows on swiftkey before. I like the volume keys better because you can use your left hand to quickly move back and forth, while you can swype type with your right, without having to peck around with a finger on the arrow keys. Install the mod and see what I mean.

Yes and the stock LG keyboard lets you swipe in the space bar to move the cursor. For me, it is more precise to move one space at a time with each click of the volume key. Try it an you'll see.

My new app Cursor Control lets you use the volume keys to easily move the cursor in text fields and works without Root.

No options after taking screenshot LG V60 Thinq Dual Screen

So sorry if this has already been discussed but when I take a screenshot on my phone, whether it be pressing power and volume at the same time, or using the other 2 options to take a screen shot, I don't get that thumbnail image where you can select options to edit the picture, scrolling screenshot, etc.
I've searched everywhere for options, but can't find any answers online.
I see the thumbnail pop-up for literally a split second where no human can possibly select an option. The only other photo app I have installed on my phone is QuickPic but I don't think that's causing it.
Can anyone help me with this issue? The phone is only 3 weeks old and pretty stock in terms of apps on it. I keep everything very simple. Non-root of course, no mods whatsoever.
thank you in advance!

Pretty much as far as I can remember since there has been options added and a window popup made rather than just a notification for a screen shot. AOSP ROMs that I have developed for call for a window animation value, and unless it is set for a hard coded value, it will default to what the system window animation value is.

My issue is the screenshot will save, the SS will show in the notification pull down, but the edit option doesn't do anything anymore. Only share and delete work from the pull down. This is since the June 1 security patch. That patch also broke my floating bar for screenshots, screen recording, crop etc. I am having to use a 3rd party floating bar that constantly turns itself off when the phone goes in deep sleep. Even have the battery saving turned off for it. Why would they break such an important feature.
