[Q] Motorola Atrix 4G - Where is my sdcard space (only 11.5GB shown in TB) - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Do I lost all my data on sdcard?
ES Explorer shown me the message no sdcard mountet.
I remount the sdcard in the Settings.
Now the Partition ist only 11.5GB (in Titanium Backup)
In ES Explorer the message is not shown again, but my old folders are gone.
Can someone explaine what's going on with my Atrix?
(Sorry 4 my bad english)

try putting the sd card into your computer and checking it out.

Are you sure you're checking /sdcard-ext/ (EXTERNAL CARD) or /sdcard/ (INTERNAL MEMORY)? Because mostly apps show internal memory as sdcard; and ~11.5GB free for internal is OK.

It is the internal sdcard, shows me 11.4 from 11.5 free and all my data are lost. 20 folders which i can't see.
Should be 15.x total

There is internal storage which the phone considers an SC card, and then there is external storage which is the card you put in. The phone partitions the internal storage and uses bits for various things. part is for webtop, part is for apps, part is for storage. 11.x gigs on the internal is normal.
the data you claim to have lost, was it on the card you put in the phone yourself? if so it's probably still there, you just need to look at the external card.

I believe the AT&T phones show the internal sdcard as having 10.7GB free after a clean sbf flash. Mine does, and I know other people have reported the same number. Obviously this number will vary slightly by carrier, but not too much I would think.

No it is not on the external ;-( ... i had 3gb sound ob the internal, but I can't see them anymore ;-) and I dis not format something.... sdcard is mounted and estrongs explorer says:no sdcard mounted... whats wrong with my internal space, there must be a bug

yeah i have the same problem lol

Internal: 2.11GB, SDcard:11.5, Ext. SDcard: 3.95
I know flashed the gingerblur 4.5.
Titanium Backup shows me now the following:
System ROM: 335 MB (121MB free) --> what partition is that?
Internal : 2.11GB (1.55GB free)
SD card: 11.5GB (11.4GB free)
Ext. SD card 3.95GB (3.86GB free)
total internal should be 16GB, but its only 13.61GB ...
Can someone explain me, how I get my holiday photos and my sound files back? all my folders were deleted, but i didn`t formatted anything...

I had a similar problem as well. I lost all my data in my ext sd card. Prior to that there were a couple of times where the sdcard and ext sd card didnt mount properly.
I tried to recover but to no avail. I now try not to transfer via the usb cable to minimize unmounting.

Is there a way to restore the pics?

Is this happening to other people?

Mini info, and Settings - sd card and device storage settings are both telling me that the internal storage is the sd card and the sd card is the internal storage. Is there a fix or is it ok.

Still not 100% sure what you mean, but I think you are OK, it may have to with the ROM you are using, see the quote below from the OP of VEGan Ginger
"****The Latest Flash player from the market now works. Latest google maps now works download from the market.****
Internal Memory is mapped to SDCard and external SD Card is mapped to SDCard2."
If I open a file manager all of my internal stuff is located on SDcard, The micro SD that I can eject shows as SD2.
Depends on which ROM you're running. A lot of them switch them around. There's advantages and disadvantages to both. It certainly doesn't hurt to have them switched. The reason people do it is so that you can pull out your external SDCard and manipulate files and have them usable by your programs. The disadvantage is that you can't easily access the internal card from your computer - you pretty much have to do it from recovery (such as ClockWork Mod), because when you tether it attaches to the one named "SDCard (in Froyo).
And, to make it more confusing, they go by different names in Gingerbread:
Code:
Actual storage Froyo Gingerbread
Internal card SDCard emmc
External card SDCard2 SDCard
Those are the default names. Again, many ROMs will switch them around.
Anyways, that's just for your future reference if you move to Gingerbread.
I don't think this is surposed to happen. When I take out the sd card the tablet shows a message that says it has benn removed but it the storage space still shows up in setting. It has 1.86 gigs and even when it is disconnected it says sdcard 1.86 gigs i tried rebootee but same thing
Did you partition it like is recommended?
That would show your app partition of 2GB. And the other part of it is for storage.

Hello guys. how can i swap my internal Sd to external sd on galaxy note I717?

My phone recognized only the internal memory as apps data storage not my Sd card, so after downloading several games, my internal memory is full and my 32 gb Sd still empty. Any help is appreciated. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium

Usually I hook up my phone to my computer. Under "My computer" it should have your cdrive and your phone. mine shows up "SGH-i717" and under that is my "card" and "phone" you can just move over pictures and movies from the phone to card. that should make some room for your phone. if this helped hit that thanks button
i know what u saying but i dont have any movies on phone. i only have games
If I understand your question then go to system settings, manage apps then click on the app and select move to Sd card.

you know that the phone recognize only the internal memory as Sd so even if i move it still moving to the phone memory not to my micro Sd card.

Same way with a few phones. The external SD is for media and such while internal is for apps and such. No real fix, but you can get titanium backup and backup all of them to your external, then uninstall the ones you're not using. Restore then when you want to use them. That's what I end up doing

We would need something like this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433436
Quote from the thread of what that does (I would actually like something like this for Note as my internal SD is practically full)
mattiadj said:
You have misunderstood something . The situation is simple. Transformer has a 16gb internal sd (in my case, I have 16gb version) and so this internal sd card of 16gb is used to store all my data! For apps in /data, apps storage in /sdcard/android/data and so on.
So if I install for example games like front line commando, gta 3, or gameloft games, shadowgun or something which needs extra resources to download, these apps download what they need into internal sd. And so the space in internal sd (which is the internal memory of tablet) became full quickly!! Why? Because the internal sd is viewed as sdcard and mounted in /sdcard and /mnt/sdcard and so is used as normal sd by apps! So transformer has a sdcard which is used both for apps installation and data storage!!! No nand or real internal memory!
External sd is used for nothing!!!
So why my script? This script is essential to fix this stupid behaviour!!
Your internal sd card is mounted to store all apps you wants and apps install on it only their apk files and necessary data. On external they stored all extra data resources and all they need!!!! On external! And internal is untouched!
So android info see this new situation in inverted way since in our transformer (and i think this is a big issue of Asus) what is mounted in /sdcard is considered as INTERNAL MEMORY and what is mounted in /Removable/MicroSD is viewed as EXTERNAL MEMORY.
Since this mod inverts mount point... The information in memory tab is inverted!
Let's now with an example.
If you install shadowgun game without my mod, it installs in you internal both game package (in /data) and 250mb of resource in /sdcard/Android/data/gamefolder.
So you have 300mb less in your INTERNAL SD!!
With my mod simply the 250 of extra resources are downloaded in you external sd!!! So you have 250mb save on internal sd to install other apps!!!!
I hope is all more clear now and is better understood how this mod is important!

Wait, to the OP:
Did you format the new SD card, then power the phone off, remove the card, pop it back in and then power up again?
If you don't format the card initially, the phone won't recognize it at all.
If that's not what you were getting at initially, then ignore this post.
-Ryan
Did we make any progress on this situation? Has anyone found a way to move apps to the external sd card. And let me point out to the few that have posted in this thread. When you move apps to the sd card through app manger or apps to sd they only move to the internal sd card.
I'd really like a fix for this as well. My 16GB MicroSD is going unused because of it. I don't store movies or music on my phone, I stream all that. But all the Internal SD memory is full because nothing recognizes that there's more than one "SD" storage space.
GET the free app called GLtoextSD or something like that name search on play store it i'll help you.(it requires root)

[Q] external_sd folder And external SD card

Hi all!
I have recently brought an 16GB External SD card for my SGSII, to store my Titanium Backups. I found the external_sd folder in the internal sd card, and thought that it was the External SD card, so i placed all my backups there. But just recently it seems like i have run out of space on the phone, so i can't update some of my apps. I started deleting a lot of photos and videos from my phone and cleared 2.5GB, but i still can't update some of my apps. I began looking through my folders, and noticed that i also have an External SD card partition on my phone. The same one i see when the phone is connected to the pc. In it i can see a Clockwork Recovery folder containing my ROM backups. So i began wondering if the external_sd folder is actually located on the phone and not in the External SD card. Can anyone confirm this?
Also, when i open the Storage (i think that's what it's called) section in the settings on CM10, and noticed that i have 2 Internal Storage sections, one of them has only App data, and the other has photos, apps, music etc. and a SD Card section, with 6.64GB storage left. Does anyone know why is there is 2 Internal Storage sections?
Thank you in advance!
/gammarik
As far as I know the "external_sd" is your removable external SD card. For some inexplicable reason it mounts as a sub-directory from the internal SD card, but it is definitely your removable external SD card.
I have a feeling that Jellybean brings a change and the external SD card mounts in a different way to ICS. I had only a brief experience of this when I played with the leaked ROM but I have reverted to ICS because of battery drain problems.
Your internal memory is partitioned with about 500MB for the system ROM, and 2GB reserved for app installations. Once this fills to around 85-90% you'll begin hitting problems with insufficient storage space errors. If you move apps to SD then this will make use of the data partition of your internal memory (about 12GB available to user on a 16GB device).
I'm running JB (Rootbox 3.2). I set the target path as /extSdCard/Titanium Backup in Preferences for it to work.

So i should move my apps from the App reserved partition to the main storage partition? Or the external SD card? And how do i do that? Sorry for noob questions, i am not too much into how Android works
I don't think you can move apps to external SD card.
Go to settings -> applications and you'll see your apps listed with information about their size. Select one, and you should see a button "Move to SD card". If this is greyed out then the app doesn't support operation from the SD card, but for many you can press the button and it will move the app for you.
The interface in settings isn't the best - I use ZDBox which is a free utility tool available from the Play Store with several useful functions, including an improved "App to SD" UI which makes it easier to see what is going on.
Be careful with widget apps and others that interact with OS functionality as these often don't play happy if moved to SD card.
in your internal memory there is a folder call externel_sd ok leave it coz you still in your internal memory and go search your external sd card memory it named extSdCard or emmc

1st internal is /data, 2nd internal is /storage/sdcard0 (your internal 11GB memory).

Internal memory

So, under settings -> storage, I'm seeing the external SD card as it should but the internal memory is only 2.35GB. Isn't it supposed to be near to 13GB? I am not getting any low storage space or anything, just setting my available space.
Maybe the space is there with another name, how do I check the available internal space? DiskInfo is showing the similar thing.

There are three storage areas in the stock Rezound...
Apps - about 2.3GB
Phone Storage - about 13GB
These are part of the internal 16GB of storage in the phone itself, and is shared with the operating system, cache partitions, app partitions, and regular storage. They are segmented and cannot be joined and actually seen as one drive.
External Storage - about 15GB (sd card dependant)
each one is it's own partition, you cannot access the "App" area without root access. the Phone Storage is the "HTC STORAGE" drive that opens when you connect to the PC, the unnamed volume is the external SD card.

Yes, I am running a custom ROM. That could be the reason for the different screen.
There is an issue sometimes with the newer ROMs where the internal or external memory is not seen in the ROM but is when connected by USB... You usually just need to format the partition in FAT32 either via CWM/TWRP/Amon Ra or Windows.
Can you browse to it with ES File Explorer or other file manager?

Would you be willing to list out the process for properly formatting the internal storage? I've tried several things, the most recent of which was mounting through recovery and formatting with Windows. However, the internal storage still can't be accessed by the camera, in ES File Explorer, etc. Thanks for any help you can provide.

I am using the solid exp and here's this folder "Internal memory" at SystemRoot, Now, this internal memory is actually my memory card. At the systemroot, there's another folder named "Storage". This folder has these 3 sub-folders - Internal memory (same as the previous one), sdcard1 (empty with free space 376MB) and usbdisk0 (empty with 376MB).
BTW, using the Xenon HD ROM and as far as I can remember, TRON had the same folders and all.

SD card question

I have bought a new tablet (Asus k019) and a new sd card because I can only use 4/8gb of internal storage, but I can't download any game/app bigger than 1.5 gb (I have 1gb left on the internal storage) because it says I don't have enough memory and any picture I recieve on whatsapp or any picture I take it's saved on the internal storage (called /sdcard/ in file manager and the card /MicroSD/ ,btw). On my old phone all my media it's automatically saved on the sd card, not on the internal storage. How can I make the sd card the default location for apps/media?

You will have to set it in each app. Also even if you move the app to the sdcard most of the data will still be on internal storage. This is due to the way android boots things up. The sdcard is not made to run games off of.

I dont think that app has the option. The main reason is mostly due to google removing the base code for SD cards. Each OEM adds them back in their own way so there is no universal way to code an app for it.
Check the settings. I dont use it nor does anyone that I know. We all moved away when FB bought it.
