Yes, of course. I did the exact same thing 2 weeks ago when I got my new white X10!
Make a nandroid backup on the old phone, then power it off, take out the SD card and put in the new phone.
If you are on stock ROM, make sure you flash the same firmware version on the new one and then Root, install xRec and then restore your backup.
If you are on custom ROM, update it via PC Companion to the latest version, flash the correct baseband if needed, then Root, install xRec and then restore your backup.
You should be fine.

Thank you very "My_Immortal"
Did exactly what you explained; works like a charm!!!

[Q] Need help with 2.3 update - Backup and Restore issue

Hi Guys, i really need a hand lol!
I regrettably updated the phone to the new Sony Ericsson 2.3 software tonight and ran a back up prior to doing it so I had a collection of everything on the phone just in case something went wrong
I am trying to restore my contacts and data previous to the update but there is no flapping Backup and Restore option on the phone anymore on this new update.
I can see that backup file when i connect the phone to the PC under the data folder, so the information is there. I just need to know an app that i could use to get this running. I have tried one "BackMeUp" but its not finding the file
I cant believe this new software update does not have a backup and restore option in the phone!!!
Am i stuffed here? Isn't 2.3 compatible with 2.1?
What can i do... please help lol
Much appreciated
Try Mybackup. It worked for me

Thanks for your reply Jad
Question... Did you already have MyBackUp installed and ran the backup from this app? Or did you use the SE Backup and Restore app?
The problem i am having is that I have used the SE B&R app prior to the upgrade, so any other app I am trying to use is not picking up where the data is
Nothing guys???
After a bit of reading I think i have succumb to the fact that I need to flash this phone back to 2.1 unless anyoneeeeee knows any different????????? All the apps i have tried have got me nowhere
So i have a few questions before i do this:
- Does the phone need to be rooted before i use flashtool?
- Does it matter which firmware i put on when i flash it? I had a generic X10i 2.1 something (cant remember the build number). Is it safe to assume if I flash it with any 2.1 X10i firmware that the phone will be able to successfully restore?
- is my backup root a phone app or a pc app? I'm presuming a phone app and its a method you guys have used so it should work lol
- any custom roms you suggest for 2.3? I had the phone rooted previously but never got round to changing the rom on it. :/
- Dumb question but does the Backup & Restore function back up my apps aswell? When i restore it, will they appear again?
Please help... definite noob in distress here haha

You don't need to be rooted to use flashtool to flash a firmware.
You can use the backup+restore utility to restore apps in 2.1, then use titanium backup or mybackup to backup everything so you are ready for 2.3.
For a 2.3 custom rom I would recommend you Wolfbreak's rom, it's based on the stock rom with some tweaks which means you get a lightning fast rom with everything working.

Cheers Chris... would it be possible though to find the .apk file for the SE backup and restore and install that on the 2.3 software that is on the phone now without doing the flash back to 2.1. Done some more searching in the thread and noticed a few more people with the same situation
here you go backup and restore for GB! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1193802&highlight=backup
Happy restoring

[Q] Missing checkrom apps after restoring from new flash.

Hi all, i am new here and my first time flashing checkrom v4. i followed the instructions and successfully flashed(i guess?) Before flashing, i made a backup with cwm and wiped the phone and i flash the new rom. when its done, i restore my apps using cwm again, however this time, i realize the apps the appear after my flash are gone e.g. kitchenpro and deluxe settings. May i know how do i get them back? Thanks.

Your not restoring apps with cwm that is flashing the backed up rom. CWM doesn't back up apps to restore them after a flash. Use titainium back up for that

As above post said you should use Titanium backup to be able to backup your apps and restore when you want. If i was you id pay for the pro version as that makes life alot easier for you...Restores everything with the push of a button and installs them for you as well. But if you go for the free version you will have to do it one by one

[Q] Problem restoring via CWM - Data

Hello, I need some help with restoring via CWM on the Galaxy S3.
On the S2 I pretty much always used CM9 and jumped back and forth between versions and backing up/ restoring was never an issue.
Now however I am using the stock ROM and its rooted of course.
I made a back up of my stock rom 'cause I wanted to try and install some stuff.
I tried installing the jelly bean transition effects but the install failed, the device felt kinda sluggish (maybe my imagination) afterwards so I decided to restore my phone. The restoring went good but the last ting that happens is that CWM says that restoring /Data failed.
I reboot my phone and I come to the first start up screen where I get to choose language and so on. Everything but photos has been deleted. I try to install CM9, and I do that without any issues. Then I trie to backup my stock backup but I get the same error message and I get back to stock setup page.
My backup is a staggering 6GB, and I read somewhere that CWM can only restore 2GB?
I've deleted that backup and done another one but that is also 6GB.
Does anyone know how to restore from that first restore or how to make future restores work?

I had this problem with my sisters Xperia X8,couldn't restore anything that i backed up.It goes for a while and stops. But she had bootloader locked.I was shore that i unlocked her bootloader but i didn't,so i unlocked bootloader, and tried to backup and restore and it worked fine.
I'm not 100% and i don't know is that the way CWM works, but i think in order to restore your data, that you backed up,you have to unlock your bootloader. But it's the best to wait someone who knows this for 100% sure.
If you haven't unlocked bootloader try that,or you don't won't to lose your warranty!?
Good luck!
I don't think that CWM has size limitation but i can be wrong.
Have you made sure that your CWM is up-to-date? if in doubt flash the latest CF-root.
was there ever a resolution to this problem? I did the same thing, rooted the galaxy s 3 and unlock the bootloader. Get a backup of my stock set up using clockwork recovery mod. Now when I try to restore, it does not restore the data. All of my apps look like they are there, but none of them are really installed. I think I can just reinstall all of the apps by hand, I would like to know how to get over this.

please help mee

i rooted my x10 mini, flashed nAa kernel via flash tool & installed cyanogenmod.
i made a nandroid backup before that, now i want to go back to stock rom,so i clicked restore in recovery and restored it.
but now my phone is not turning on,
did the kernel change caused this issue
please anyone help me
I read somewhere that if you want to go to stock rom, you have to re-lock bootloader. Try to search for more about it.

The restore only restores the rom, not the kernel, and the stock rom won't run on a custom kernel.
You either need to get a stock kernel to flash with flashtool or repair your phone using SEUS or PC Companion
The Backup will still be available for restoring, if you figure out how to install CWM on the stock kernel/rom
And there is NEVER a need to relock the bootloader, unless you want to send it for repairs under warranty.
other problem
cheers everyone.
i have an other problem with my u20i.
i think i made very bad, crappy ****. =/
this term is correct for me too:

i must say- everything is more than fine. after something like 10 hrs i really like it and tought i should test some other customs too.
but now my problem:
like above is wrote: i have the backup. but what i doesnt minded is- i need to restore my contacts..
normally i would say- okay. i will ask in facebook or something like this- but i have/had somethin ´bout 300contacts.
i thought the google-acc will add all my contacts if i log in( it does as i´ve used an other android-phone some weeks ago[the owner got all my contacts in his contacts-.-]) so- it doesnt adding them for now.
is there any way to restore just the contacts? i know- i should backup them seperately- but its too late now..
i looked around to open the ".img" data, but i only can burn them to disk.
i really dont want to restore the stock rom too get the contacts and backing them up otherwise.
hope you understand what i´m talking about.
mean-language is german- so ask if something isnt clear.
thanks everyone

Maybe you've got Auto-synchronisation turned off, so it won't sync your phone with your google-account automatically.
If all your contacts are still on your google-account (check with your pc) then syncing (Settings-Accounts and Synchronisation-Synchronise) should get them back on your phone.
If that doesn't work, restore your previous backup and maybe export your contacts to sd-card, then flash back your new rom and import your contacts from sd-card (in the contacts application, press the menu button and choose import-export)
You could go into CWM - backup and restore and do an advanced restore, which will put back all the settings and data from your original rom, but not all that may be compatible with your new rom, so it might cause more problems than it solves.
Those are your options, as far as I'm aware.
There is a way to 'decompile' the data.img of your backup, if you've got an Android-kitchen, which is for developers, but that's quite complicated, and i wouldn't know where to look for the contact-details that are stored there.

[Q] [MTK Tool] Flash Backup from other Device without Brick?

Hi,
I bought a Alcatel Onetouch T'POP 4010D Phone.
Because the internal Space is so small, I wanted to use Apps2ext, and the simplest way seemed to flash a rom.
So I rooted the phone, installed cwm and installed Xperia Z rom.
Sadly, I flashed a wrong rom, so my phone now only detects one SIM.
I made a Backup with CWM, but this doesn't seem to be enough. I can restore, but I still have the wrong ROM!
I have another Phone, totally unmodified! How can I read the Stock ROM of my second phone, restore it to the first and have it working.
I don't accidentally want to flash config settings that are phone specific (e.g. IMEIs).
I guess MTK Tool is the way to go?
Can you please tell me, what exactly I have to restore to get the Stock rom on my second phone but don't brick it?
Yes, its possible to restore from the a mtk_droid_tools backup of thre other

Its possible this way without any problems of bricking
Do a a backup with mtk_droid_tools of the second phone (unmodified or stock). Restore the backup with sp_flash_tool unto the first phone (with problems). Follow all procedures correctly and you will have a successful restore
