[Q] USB host possibilities (TNT receiver, Wifi dongles,...) ? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi!
I've read forum rules and even used the search button to ensure that this question (or at least the tv tuner possibility) has not been asked yet...
So, could we expect to see these kind of devices working in a "near" future?
And for the wifi dongle, I know the built-in wifi works very well, but we could use another dongle with bigger antenna or with a friendlier chipset based adapter (to verify my own wifi network security with aircrak-ng, for instance ).
Cheers!
(I've already seen disk drive, keyboard and mouse in action).

Any idea ?

[trying to put the post again on the first page...] I wish I could post in the development topic...

OBD/Car Diagnostics?

I find it hard to believe that this topic has not been discussed here. Perhaps I didn't hit the right keyword combination in the search (if so, please accept my apologies and kindly guide me in the right direction).
I am interested in connecting my 8125 to the diagnostics port (OBD II) on my car in order to read error messages.
I found this relatively cheap tool online that lets you connect to your laptop.
It also has some links for software that will run on the PPC as well as a serial to USB cable (with mini adapter).
Does anyone know if this is feasible?
Here's the tool:

Here's the PPC software:

oops
I work for a scan tool software / hardware company. We have recently been discussing developing an application for the PPC.
Here are a few additional applications.

I use a bluetooth unit with my laptop and wizard, it is available from
http://www.vitalengineering.co.uk/
I have used it with a few PDA's and it works really well I can clear codes log data from the sensors etc its OBDII and CAN compatible

Thanks for the suggestions!
The unit Rob suggests seems pretty powerful for the price.
And the fact that he's tried it with the Wizard helps!
I think you can download the software and run it in simulation mode to see if it does the things you want it too.
good luck getting the setup you want.

I've also used the Elmscan unit mentioned above with a Sena Serial -> Bluetooth dongle along with my 8125 or a Treo and been able to monitor my idling vehicle from as much as 50 feet away. I'm not sure why I would ever need to do that but it's nice to know it's there.
this sounds interesting, what is this?
OBD lets you peer into your car's computer to see what's going on more or less. Very helpful with cars the have idiot lights instead of guages. Autoenginuity.com has some great software and has bluetooth adapters for the American side of the pond. I think they're $128.00 for the BT module, not sure about the others.
I want to connect my wizard to the OBDII port of my car to use a programm called "VAG-CHECK".
I have an OBDII to USB cable, and i managed to convert it to miniUSB.
My problem is that the software can use only serial ports.
What I believe I need, is a "serial over usb" driver that will implement a virtual serial port and will redirect data to the usb port. Am I right? Do you know if there is such software?
Thanks in advance.
Even if you had the mentioned driver, you would still need a USB host enabled pocket pc. The wizard acts only as USB client, so it's not possible to connect it to any other USB devices rather than a PC.
And - before that question comes up - USB host is not a piece of software, it's hardware! You won't ever be able to add this feature to a Wizard. Sorry...
Thanks a lot!
My next try was to buy a bluetooth to serial adapter, that supports the serial port interface. What I did, is that I paired the two devices, but no serial port is added in the wizard. So I added it manualy (outbound serial port, com6). But neither the OBD software can see this port, nor a hyperterminal emulation. I cannot even initiate this link from the wizard. Is there any way to achieve this?

[Q] Samsung Note replacing desktop computer

What do you think about that?
I already have a old windows bluetooth keyboard that works with android.
I only use computer to surf the webb, write, read. Watch some youtube.
Can bluetooth mouse be used with android? Not that it's necessery, but i'm curious
Yes it can, quite easily in fact. If the bluetooth keyboard and mouse suppor the HID profile, you should be good to go. Also, if you get an MHL adapter and connect it to an HDMI display you can push your screen out to a larger one.
Is this issue already fixed that an activated Bluetooth connection slows down your WiFi? For surfing the tablet may be okay, but for me it won't replace the desktop in the near future.. There are no drivers for special devices, it's way slower and if you try serious work on a tablet... Well, prepare some relaxing tea

[Q] Possible to make most Wifi Direct enabled phones to beam to Miracast?

I just got a Netgear Push2TV 3000, which not only encompases WiDi, but Miracast support in this version.
From what my indersstand is though, is that both these WiDi and Miracast technologies are basically just wireless HDMI anyway.
My question is if it's possible to come up with a mod to work to allow any (or at least most) rooted phones with a ROM like CM that intergrate Miracast into their settings for every build?
Just wondering if this was possible. This would be a really welcomed feature,
PS...I did try doing just that with my droid 4 running CM 10,1 with its wifi direct setting..it said it was connectining, anazingly...but nothing else after that. =/
Anyway, if anybody know if **** is at all possoble accomplish, please let me know, if you could. Thanks.
Hey there. Connecting via WiFi Direct through the Settings menu only sets up the layer 3 connection. To make a function like Miracast work, you need a Miracast-supported app to sit on top of WiFi Direct. MiraCast is a standard that is certified by the same governing body as the one that certifies WiFi Direct, so MiraCast is actually built on top of WiFi Direct. WiDi is an Intel led standard that nobody uses.
i would love to see an app capable of this be developed, it would be awesome to be able to display the screen on my phone on the TV without wires

[Q] Why is ther no universal Bluetooth patch??

Could someone tell me why its impossible to find a universal Bluetooth patch for EXTERNAL usb Bluetooth dongles? One that will add the full Bluetooth feature to the devices "born" without build-in Bluetooth.
We are so many that bought these Android tablets thinking that we could just plug in a Bluetooth usb dongle - for why would that feature be missing in Android, bluetooth has been around for so many years even before anyone thought of android.
So why is this left out of the kernel, it should be as basic as Wi-Fi?
Come on XDA developers - make a universal driver, then get people to test it and add their devices to the list of working.
Doesn't bluetooth work in linux? And isn't Android based on linux?
So why is it so hard to make the driver/patch?
Or is it simply that most developers think that bluetooth is obsolete - So never mind?
With kind regards
JBJ

OBD II devices

Both Bluetooth and Wifi OBD-II devices are supported by our headunits. Keep in mind that you get what you pay for with these devices and the cheap ebay ones aren't very reliable
OBD devices are only detected if broadcasting name contains OBD. There is a work around using petrows CarService
Please report back any that work for you
Wifi

Bluetooth

Wired (USB)

Note: If connecting to wifi device, you'll lose you access to the internet (wifi/3g)
Curious about how to resolve the problem I have with OBD.
I use an OBDLink LX, which is far and away one of the best you can use. Not a cheap Chinese knock-off and it has specific support in both Torque and Dashcommand.
On my MTC KLD unit, Torque detects the OBD device just fine. Torque just works with it, I didn't have to do anything.
However, Dashcommand does not reliably detect it. Dash Command is enumerating devices differently somehow, and just shows "paired device" for everything. I was able to randomly choose one once, and it worked. The next time, it wouldn't work on either one. I would MUCH prefer to use Dash Command, as Torque gives me wildly inaccurate readings (MPG, HP, Torque, all are way off despite using accurate profile information). Dash Command tech support insulted me by simply responding to read the user manual PDF.
Any ideas?
I've just got a "LUJII Mini OBD2 ELM327 V1.5 Bluetooth Car Scanner". Works ok with my phone, and in the Bluetooth menu it seems to pair. But then Torque says it is not paired even though I have the OBD sign in the top status bar.
Need to force the pairing inside of the torque app by selecting which OBD device and then it works ok.

same problem for me on my kld 3066 Torque is paired and working immediatly.
dashcommand pair OBDII BT device but always don't connect, i just found that OBDII connect to dashcommand 80% of the times if I force dashcommand to close from Apps list and that I restart the App
I write lot of mails to dashcommand about this problem (also because i buy), ...I send Debugs and so...but I still with the same problem
Am I gonna also lose connection to may hands free bluetooth if I get a bluetooth one?
I never had one of those and would like to know which one you recommend for a Rk3066 HU
Thanks.
I got this one off amazon and for 11 bucks it works 99% of the time. The only issue I have had is it reads wrong codes on Subaru but works fine on Toyota, Nissan and Kia so far.
Cant post links but this is close

Hi all.....
I've got a SCANTOOL OBDLink LX connected to my AUDI S3 8P, and it's the fastest BT dongle i've ever seen.....it make about 45 Fps, when china's ELM make 10 Fps.....
Unfortunatly, the TP 2.0 protocol isn't available with a standard ELM327.....you just access to generic PIDs, so it's limited.....i'm working on it.
I also try a WBH BT5 dongle, witch should read the TP 2.0 with TORQUE......at the moment, i can't access to my ECU MED9.1 (but i can on KWP1281 EDC15P), i'm working on it too, with florian Help...
To paired with the WBH BT5, you need to override in Xposed MTC the dongle string name, and it work fine.

As an update, since I remove carservice this works much better, no need to force pairing everytime.

No you can bluetooth to more than one device at a time.
Anyone using VGate iCar v2 or v3 BT version? I wish to have one of these as they have automatic sleep mode so you can keep it plugged all the time without batt drain.
So I've tried both this adapter http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014MV03KY?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00 and this adapter http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005NLQAHS?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00
And I can't get either of them connect to bluetooth. They both show up when you search for the adapter, but neither of them connect. They don't even give me the option to put in the PIN to have them connect. Has anyone ever had this kind of issue? If so what can I do to fix it?

What module do you use to override the name? I need to do this too for my Kiwi3 but I can't find the relevant settings anywhere.

Correction - I found the settings page finally - apparently I hadn't actually enabled xposed MTC. Once it was enabled and rebooted, I still haven't been able to get the device to show up at all in the bluetooth settings. I've tried:
K
k
Kiwi
KIWI
Kiwi 3
3
kiwi
KIW
kiw
Kiw
as well as leaving the field blank. Still nothing in the bluetooth settings. I can confirm that the device is on and connectable from my phone. Am I doing something wrong?
has anyone found an adapter that plays well with mtcb decks and 2001 f150's? i've tried 3 adapters and still haven't gotten one that does both. either the connect no problem to my deck but not to the ecu or they connect to ecu but its named "chx" instead of obd and won't connect to my deck. i did try using the xposed module to override but it never worked for me either.
