[Q] Class 2 card fast enough? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is a class 2 sandisk microsd card fast enough to store/view some media and such on it and have decent use with the Atrix?
I have a class 4, 4gb in right now, but I can get a good deal on a class 2 8gb card

This may help:

that all depends on your usage, some people might see it as too slow, but again it depends on how you feel about the phone read write slowdowns

I use a 16gb polaroid class 2 card i bought for $13.. no problem at all. Although some people might disagree.

I have patriot 16gb class 10, I paid it at 35 euros, speed is really fast 10 - 16mb/s

I have this great performance and good price too order online though as i went in store and they tried to charge me £50 LOL
Thanks for your answer. This one is good for the hero ?
But what about the class ??? Which is better ?
Hi Guys.
I'm just about to buy a new micro sd card for my hero, as i have heard that usin a good class 6 can improve the speed of the phone.
Basically, I've found 2 great deals, not sure which one to go with.
First, 8gb Sandisk "mobile ultra" class 6, 17 quid on amazon
http://www.amazon.co.uk/SANDISK-MOBILE-MICRO-ULTRA-CLASS/dp/B001U2EQF2/ref=pd_cp_ce_2
Orrrr... 16gb Transcend class 6, 50 quid on amazon
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0027HUY...ive=7966&creativeASIN=B0027HUYL4&linkCode=asn
Does anybody use transcend, is it any good? Is it guna be as good as a sandisk one?
Thoughts please guys,
Cheers, Dave
I don't know but not a long time ago, i have heard something like that :
A class 2 in sandisk or else = class 6 in kingston or else.
The problem is that i don't remember the brand and the class LOL
I bought a Transcend MicroSDHC Class6 card, anyone knows if its a big diff between class2 and class6?
The read/write speed is different. Here's what I bought: http://www.meritline.com/showproduct.aspx?ProductID=26412&SEName=adata-8gb-microsdhc-card-class4
From Wiki:
* Class 2: 2 MByte/s - 13x
* Class 4: 4 MByte/s - 26x
* Class 6: 6 MByte/s - 40x
The one I bought really did write at 6mb/s which was surprising (although the item description changed to class 4 even though I bought a class 6)
Thanks, glad I bought a class6 card ..
I've bought a 16GB Transcend Class 6 card and it's great.
The class sytem is based upon that the card should read/write a minimum of MB same as the class it is. So a class 6 card should read & write at a minimum speed of 6MB. My card actually is actually faster than this, but it should not go below 6MB on any occation.

Agreed with the Above, however dont base your choice on class only, as there is another thread on here, try searching which a member said that a good brand class 2 (sandisk in particular) outperformed a class 6 ok/crap brand. All the class is there for is to not allow the chip to write any less then stated it does not mean it is faster because its class 6 or class 5
i went with kingston because it comes with a lifetime warranty.

16gb Class 2, any difference?

I found this on amazon, pretty much the cheapest and highest i can find on the class category, right now i have a 8GB Class 6 but im running out of space because of the HD videos im recording, will i noticed any significant difference in performance on this phone? and its Kingston and trust them
http://www.amazon.com/Professional-...2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1292972644&sr=1-2
anyone got feedback??
I had a 8GB class 2 and the phone needed alone around 3 seconds till the screen went balck and the cam started after pressing the camera key and 1 or 2 seconds till the cam was on.
Now I have a 16GB class 4 and the cam starts immediately (around 0,5 sec after pressing the camera key) and needs around 1-2 seconds till the cam is started.
I think Mediascape etc is also faster with the class 4 than with the class 2.
I don't want to have a class 2 card in my phone anymore, the whole phone feels faster with an class 4 card.
So I'd say you'll feel a difference. If you have the money, go for a 16GB class 4.
it comes with a 16gb class 2
get a class 4 or higher.
preferably a class 6
I read that the phone can't use the performance plus of a class 6 card compared to a class 4 one, so a class 4 should be the best choice.
I'm using 16G class 10 that i bought from Amazon
it work with my X10 and never had any problem until today.
effect: Camera and music are faster then the 8gb c4.
forgot to post the name of my 16gb c10 micro sd brand: kingmax
Good, bought the same card yesterday, hopefully it will he shipped fast. Changed from a 16gb class4 to class10 because with the latest firmware the X10 can read & write with class10 speed...
I'm actually upgrading from a Class2 2GB to a Class 6 8GB, hoping the system overall runs faster so I cant vouch for class2/6 change yet, although I'd question the "cheapest one" for class 2 I found this
remove the space between the "w" since i cant post links yet

Did you guys try getting readings on SD Tools for read/write?
On the original SD Class 2 I got write 1.6mb/s and read 60 mb/s (WTF?)
and on a class 10 which I bought off ebay I got 13mb/s and 17 mb/s !
Sorry if I'm not relevant but how do I find on which class my card is on ?
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Use the app "SD Card Speed Test", it will show you the class.

The best possible card is the Lexar microSDHC 32Gb Class 10, but it comes with a price of ~100Euro.
For 16Gb, check if you can find a Class 10 from Lexar, Kingston, Sandisk as these are reputable producers.
Or if the price is right, you can check out a Class 6 or Class 10 made by TeamGroup or A-Data, these are 2nd tier producers.
In the end, remember that not always the fact that is written on the package makes it true.

I use this card and "bang for buck" its the best out there. Never had a problem and read/writes are exactly as stated. In fact, after installing a custom rom, changing to .58 baseband and then adding this card, its made me fall in love with this phone for the first time since I bought it and iv'e had mine since launch (UK). Excellent sdhc card, well worth the money, if like me, you use your phone as an entertainment device.
Class 6 Plus Camera Mod
A while back I stumbled on a camera mod for Build.Prop.. if you get a faster card.. you can adjust your FPS of cam.. I bought an 8Gb class 6 and with the mod it works quite well. So there is ways to improve your software if you want to upgrade your storage.. I got mine at Target with a reader for $20.00. Sure beats the stock 2Gb class 2

Class 10
I'm in the business of looking for one myself as well. From what i have been told your best bet is a class 6 and up. I am looking for a class 10 myself just because the read and right speed are the fastest. Taking pictures, recording video, etc.. always try with class 6 and up for sure.
I have a Sandisk 16GB Class 4 card and just tested the speed:
write: 5.5 mbps
read: 10.9 mbps
Never had any problems with video recording but I can imagine the difference between this one and a class 6 is noticable.

[Q] SD card class for NT

Hi all!
What class of sd cards is the best for NT? Is it necessary to bay class 10 sd card?
I'm using a Sandisk Class 4 16gig card and it works fine. Absolutely no problems. Haven't tried a class 10 so I can't reliably say whether it would be better or not.
class speed doesn't matter much when it comes to using it with the NT. the reason is because the class speed just represents the write speed, whereas when you use your sdcard in the NT, the only thing that matters is read speed. So I would say a class 10 card isn't worth the money. I would go for like a class 4 or class 6 16gb card. I find that to be the sweet spot. hope that helps
i am using a 16gig hc class 4, show it in a video
I asked that question because i want to bay new sd card for my Nook, but i don't know if nook's controller allow me to use my card in full speed.
I am getting a 32gb Class 10 card (Lexar) that I paid 40 dollars for. I will let you know how it performs once I receive/install.
I downloaded SDFormatter and if anyone has suggestions on formatting or partitioning, let me know. I heard FAT32 but that is all I know.
I'm using an AmazonBasics class 10 32Gb card that I already had in my camera and it works great. I'll probably buy another just like it to put back in the camera.
i've bought a new silicon power's class 10 sd card. SD tools test showed me 15.9 write speed and 18.2 read speed.
Someplace here on forum I have read the best is to get a ScanDisk class 2 or 4 to work with the NT. Perhaps you could do a search on ScanDisk and find the exact post. BTW because of that recommendation that is what I use with my NT and so far so good that is working out great for me.
Manual suggests Class 6. Where did you find the 32 gig for $40?

Both the brands are awesome....But class 4 is obviously better than class 2 for android....My Sandisk 16 Gb Class 4 MicSD gives a read speed of about 14 MB/sec and write speed of 5-6 MB/sec......
SanDisk is more known, also class 4 is faster.

hmm, but transcend normally cost more than sandisk here, class 2 transcend 16gb is almost at the same price on sandisk 16gb class 4 so i thought transcend has more quality than sandisk,
I personaly use also 16gb class 2 trascend about 3 years already without any problem first in SE elm now in my mini. But my opinion when you buy new is buy even faster or maybe even biger coz lifetime microsd is great and you can use it in many phones. Anyway speed in phone is for any action enouhg for me now and never got any problem with memory from trascend (i using from trascend now microsd, normal sd, ram, flash disc)

Guys don't forget that the speed class only describes the write speed of the card.
Most cards, I mean even class 2, are fast enough at reading speed for usual use.
For good writing performence you should buy a class 10 card even if the price is higher.
Its a big difference copying for example 700 mb with 10 mb or only 2 mb writing speed.

I agree! I had a Kingston 8Gb class 4 and then I bought one Samsung 8Gb CLASS 10 and I was amazed. Copying series, movies, backups and Roms to my phone is really fast.

Forget brands, its the class that matters
Well I went over to the accessories section and found threads on this...they are REALLY serious about this stuff there....the bottom line here, and in other fora is that the San Disk Class 4 is perhaps the best out there. People claim (and show pictures proving) that it has beaten higher class SD cards. I went for this one and am very happy...it beats expectations. I agree it's mostly more about class rather than brand, but brand can affect things sometimes.
I bought a Kingston 16MB class 4 for my x10mp, and the phone kept hanging up. Sent it back as a defect and got another one, but I had the same problem with that one, too. Sent it back for a refund. Bought a Sandisk 16MB class 4 and haven't had any problems with it. I'm not sure about the '11 xmp, but brand did matter on my old phone.

i am thinking of ADATA 8GB Class 10 Micro SDHC Flash Card with SD adaptor Model AUSDH8GCL10-RA1, for my sk17i. It has good reviews on newegg. What yall think? Also how the process of changing sd cards goes, i mean i just simply copy everything from sd card that came with sk17i, to new sd card, via windows explorer or what?

32 GB Memory Card

Which is best 32GB memory card for Neo V..
n is the Phone fast with 32 GB card or getting Lagged??
i'm not getting any lag with my 8GB (class 4) card. 32GB will do good
Let me give you an advice.
To the best of my knowledge a 32 GB sd card will need more power to work which means it will draw more power.
Also it depends from whom are you gonna buy it?
Sandisk? (if it is sandisk then BUY IT)
Also at the store ask for its class.
Just something about classes.
A class 4 card IS always going to give you at least 4mb/s write speed.
Although this is not always true.. (i bough a Kingston class 4 16GB for 8.5 euro XD and it is working fine but it mostly runs with 3mb/s it is slow but it was the cheapest and bigger)
The higher the capacity of the sd the slower random read write speeds.
So if you are planing to move many apps on your sd i do not recommend anything class 10 like.
But if you mostly need it for gaming/music/movies then for CLASS 10
Oh and always but sd cards from the web they are way cheeper than from stores.
(my Kingston from a shop costs 16Euro -mostly like every card 1Gb=1euro)
Buy a card with a high speed class.
Take min. class 6 or class 10.
Buy a card from a well know manufacturer like kingston , San disk or Samsung.
I use a 16 gb Samsung class 10 and the write speed is fantastic. 12 mb/s.

The answe is yes and no.
What 32GB ?
A 32 gb class10 sandisk wont slow it down.
A 32GB CLASS 4 KINGSTON WILL SLOW IT DOWN
it depends on the cards class and company.
a kingston class 10 VS sandisk class 10
would lose sandisk creates very fast sd's
If you are willing to pay a lot of money then buy sandisk class 10
IT WILL BE EVEN FASTER THAN WHAT YOU HAVE.
It depends on everything!.
Also android doesnt use the full potentional of the sd card.
You will need to root your phone and use an sd booster app to unlock your cards MAX SPEEDS!
For 32gb class 10 is must. Otherwise video recording, playing HD videos etc will lag.
I use 8gb class 10.
toshiba 32gb class4 no lags so far
Exchange of files between the computer and the phone affects the importance of speed
Class 10 is a must. Im using imation 8gb card. Images and videos loads and saves faster cmpared to lower class.

I use this Samsung class10 32GB. http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/294822/samsung-microsdhc-32gb-class-10.html#tab:info
Previously used a transcend 16GB class4, the speed difference isn't that much, but you'll save a few minutes when making a CWM backup. (I went from 9 to 6 minutes).
But it was just €3 more than a class4 card, so worth the price.
My brother use Sandisk 32Gb class 4 for his MK16i (x.Pro)
Everything is working very well
