96GB Transformer? - Eee Pad Transformer Accessories

Throw one of these bad boys in there (assuming the Transformer would recognize it) and you could get 96GB on the tablet without the sd slot in the dock:
http://www.kingmax.com/news_info.asp?fid=145&id=2030
I wonder how much that would cost?

I will admit that that would be super wicked but I doubt the tab would recognize it.

iirc the microSD slot on the tablet itself is only SDHC, which is 32gb max, this guy is SDXC, which is supported in the dock but not the tablet, as per Asus.

Who needs that much space? What are you saving on your tab? i have not even touched my 16GB onboard and let alone my 32GB SD Card

As long as there exists a way to utilize local external storage, people will find a way to fill up said storage. For those of us that keep large collections of movies, music, photos, and games, cloud storage is simply not sufficient.
Personally I have over 200GB worth of music alone, so an external hard drive is my only option if I want to be able to take it all with me on my Transformer. I can't imagine how much it'd cost for enough cloud storage to handle my music collection.

CLOUD is not ftw! It all depends on the quality of your internet connection and its always requires that you are online to have access to your storage.

Umm, why settle for a 64gb SDXC.....? If you're burning money just go all out and grab one of these

Apparently the micro sdxc cards should work in the microsd card slot as well as the 'normal' sized sdxc cards in the dock when they are made available, so 4tb (2tb micro sdxc +2tb sdxc) of extra storage isn't looking too bad for the future (when re-mortgaging the house isn't necessary to purchase them).

There's conflicting theories on whether the microSD slot will support SDXC capacities, and I can't seem to find anyone that has actually tried it, since obviously no one can actually get their hands on a micro SDXC card yet. I don't think we'll know for sure until someone is able to try it.

Quite true, but the sdxc cards were designed to work, and be backward compatible with sd card readers (once the driver is installed), so even if it's not an official feature from Asus it will more than likely become an official feature by google for android and therefore be possible to implement in the future. Link for more info here:

Whatever happens there's always hope, for a storage behemoth.

Sorry but I think you misunderstood the page you linked to. An SDXC card will only _ever_ work in SDXC capable hardware.
Only Use SDXC Memory Cards in SDXC Devices
SDXC devices are backwards compatible, so they accept SD and SDHC memory cards. SDXC memory cards must only be used with SDXC devices and should never be used in non-compatible devices.

Each Transformer SD slot is either SDXC or it isn't. if it isn't it will never be able to use SDXC cards.

@SilentMobius
The only reason they state on that page that SD card slots in 'non compatible' devices wont work, is either because the slot is outdated or there is no easy way to update the drivers to make them read the newer cards (firmware flashes via a computer and usb cables can add features such as these, but most manufacturers only support their latest hardware, and quickly forget about 4+ month old devices). There will be a way to update the drivers in the TF, and Android devices have a long lifespan, as I think everyone on these forums would agree.
Granted there have been a few minor revisions of the SD card socket over the years, but the ones based on the more modern revisions should be upgradable to SDXC compatibility via drivers. It all comes down to what slot, as you say, they have put in the device and the jury is still out on that one, as there are no visible markings internally to specify.
As we all know SDXC cards work in the dock reader, even though Asus dont state this on their specification sheet any more, so the same should/could be true for the micro slot. As they are only just appearing on the market, we shall find out in time.

w00t, 64gb MicroSD cards from Sandisk!

I wonder if our dear Touch HD can handle this memory card?
http://dailymobile.se/2009/10/19/press-sandisk-starts-shipping-64gb-memory-cards/
I'd be very wary of that story.
The SDHC standard only goes up to 32GB, there's already the SDXC standard that has been agreed upon that will cover larger sizes.
So it doesn't make much sense that Sandisk would try producing 64GB SDHC-based cards as they'd likely not be properly supported by anyone. Doubly so given that SDXC is really just an extension of the SDHC standard and there seems to be a school of thought that any SDHC-capable hardware would be able to be made SDXC-compatible by way of some software tweaking.
Yeah I dont believe it untill I actually see the card and hear ppl testing it
I dont spend that money on my phone but I hope it will lower the prices of the 16GB cards so I can buy one of those Im still using the 8GB card that came with the phone.

Buying the 32gb and using multiple microSD cards

What do you guys think about having multiple Micro SD cards to contain movies and putting them in the TF prime when you want to watch them. But otherwise keeping the tablet without a regular MicroSD card?
I guess what else I'm wondering is does it put files onto the card the way the android phones do if you just leave a card in the device?
I'm trying to convince myself to get the 32gb and just get micro SD for my movies otherwise I only have about 10GB of personal media to put directly on the device.
Thoughts?
Thanks!
You would need a way to carrying your sd cards around safely then and a way to remember which movie is on which card ^^ But if you want as much storage as possible why not getting the 64gb version? Fast 32gb sd cards arent cheap.
I get the 32gb version too, i wont putting all my music on it though, i have my Phone for that. So i think 64gb (32gb internal+32gb sdcard) will be more than enough for movies+apps. I dont have to keep all my movies on the tablet all the time. I watch alot of episode based stuff like series and documentations so it will be completely fine to put 1 season on it and watch that then put season 2 on it and so on
And i will have the dock as well with regular SD card slot and usb so for me thats more than enough.
Micro SD Cards etc

Use of the Micro SD Card will be helpful and also SD Card in the Docking Station but look at this posting: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1276410
The tablet can look at your computer and files (how you set it up) to look at almost anything even apk's to install. This can be done from anywhere with your tablet / WIFI as long as your computer is on. This works reall well with your phone also.

Yeah, I'm getting a case that will hold accessories but mainly because I don't want to wait for the 64Gb to come out most likely in Jan. It's my only Christmas gift too. I'm just thinking that if that would work I could get it if my local gamestop comes through or microcenter.
I agree about the music, my phone as well is used for that. My only use outside of gaming, internet and Apps would be movies which is why I thought about the MicroSDs. A couple Class 4 I would think could hand scaled down movies and still look decent.
But that brings up another point if later on 64 GB microSD become more affordable could the tablet support it or is it limited to 32gb?
I prefer waiting for the 64gb version. It shouldn't be more than one or 2 weeks from here. For me, it's not just a matter of storage but performance too. I am using it for music, video and will try some basic photoediting (probably in RAW), so having to rely on a slow card (even Class 10 are slow for this) doesn't seem like an option. And I don't like having to switch cards. It wouldn't be the first microSD card I lost either, and as I am planning to use the tablet for travelling it's not a good idea to rely on a second microSD and then lose it
On the other hand, getting the dock means you should be able to use external hard drives, way better than just SD cards for more storage, so if you're using it home, why having 2 microsd cards when you can have all the space you need in an external hard drive?

most HC tablets have their internal storage partitioned and the OS sees it somewhat like an SD card, so those random files that usually get put on an SD card (android folder and such) will get put there and not the sd card, so you should be fine with swapping cards in and out without worrying about breaking apps.
This just makes me want to get multiple cards and then get something like this:

[q] 64gb sdxc

Hi guys,
I've did a search on the forums before posting but it seems no ones ansked the question!
Has anybody tried using a 64GB SDXC card via the SD connector?
I've already formatted the card into FAT32 but any data that's written to the card AFTER 30Gb +- cannot be read....although Im able to browse around the file structure.
any ideas guys?
Thanks all!
3.2 Stock, Samsung Galaxy 10.1 32 GB
I've been using a 64gb SanDisk cruiser USB drive since I bought my tab. I know it is not a direct answer to your question, but the thumb drive works fine in the official USB adapter.
I can however see the whole drive in windows, both XP PRO, and Win 7. The drive came pre-formatted FAT32 from SanDisk, entirely one partition, and apparently readable fine on anything I have run across. From what I understand, you should be able to format your card NTFS if you are using pershoot's kernel.
Later,
Jason
USB mass storage watcher in the market will allow you to mount a NTFS drive with stock firmware.
Since the tab only has a OTG USB connector, if the card adaptor supports sdxc then it should work. When you formatted the card, what was it formatted as before? Was it a quick or full format?

thanks for the replies guys,
its a PNY 64GB SDXC it originally came in a exFAT format, Ive partitioned in quick format via 2 different programs.
Try a full format. With a large cluster size like 16k.

One other thing to mention would be that there are tons of counterfeit SD cards on the market, and unless you got yours from a very reputable seller, there is a chance that it is hacked to report a higher capacity then it has.
The comment you made about being able to navigate the file system, but not open anything past 30g is pretty close to exactly how those counterfeit cards behave. I would be surprised if they used a 32g card as a base for the hacked card, but anything is possible... Anyhow, try H2testW, a google search will turn up download links. It is a free program that will write data to a target device until it fills the device. Then it will attempt to read it back and verify it's contents. After a certain number of mismatches, it will report the memory as likely defective.
This saved my butt a few times on some SDHC card purchases. It takes quite some time to run, especially with large drives, but the big plus here is that it verifies the flash memory before you put it in a device and loose a bunch of data that might be irreplaceable.
Good Luck,
Jason
Ive attempted to do a full format still no luck
The card isnt a knock off, its from a reputable seller and the contents are available to browse ( incl. read write) on a normal desktop computer.... could it just be Android doesnt like 64gb SDXC cards?
I see, I thought you meant that after 30g you could just see the file structure but not access. I'm not sure if it is possible with the tab's USB otg adapter, but if you can format it with the tab, it might work. I know this has worked for people with phones that the manufacturer said was limited to 32g sdhc, phone would not read the full 64g until the people formatted with Android and card in phone.
Other than that, I'd try format ntfs (think only win 7 has this capability for flash) but there are stand alone apps, as well as Linux and parted... Other than that I don't have any other ideas... It might be it doesn't like the xc cards, but I don't think anything electrically changed with the card spec. This is complete speculation, but it seems that if it can handle the 64GB of nand flash in my thumb drive, it ought to be able to deal with the 64GB of nand flash in a sdxc card.
Good luck,
Jason

SDXC is different to SDHC in the same way that SDHC is different to SD.
Does the card reader indicate being able to support SDXC? If not, it's understandable why it is not working as expected and I'm a bit surprised it's partly working.
Are you using the same card reader for the computer with the Galaxy TAB?
At least with SD, they made a clear indication for different memory types / supported sizes. With XD, there was a 512MB limit where older devices would not recognise anything higher but the higher capacity cards were also just called XD.

NFC SD & storage options

So I really like the Nexus Tablet, but am really saddened by the fact that it doesn't have SD card.
I was doing some googling and I came across the new NFC SD cards. These are designed to add NFC to devices that don't have them; but would it be possible to use them to add SD capabilities to NFC devices without SD card slots?
http://www.tomsguide.com/us/Android-iPhone-NFC-MasterCard-PayPass,news-13857.html
It would need to be plugged into something obviously. I wonder if there is some sort of credit card shape device that could power an NFC SD card?
What would be awesome is if there was a nice NFC keyboard/case that added an SD card slot. If that existed I'd buy it and a Nexus in a hearbeat.
Have you considered this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33443612
I really don't want anything attached, but hanging off of the tablet. Either inside (like an SD card) or separate (like an NFC SD card)
NFC has low throughput (424Kbit/s max), not suitable for large file xfers. If going wireless, wifi is your only choice, and current solution would be limited to the Seagate GoFlex Wifi drive (it doubles as a repeater so you can access its content while maintaining Internet connection).
Miracast, which was built on Wifi Direct, was recently announced, too recent for products to be introduced AFAIK. But presumably some time next year you should see Miracast-enabled devices that allows high-throughput P2P. That would take advantage of the (again) presumably HT40 mode on the N10. Note that all of this is based on announcements and paper specs, and real functionality may be as late as a year away. Moreover, Miracast, while ostensibly an "official" standard, may lose out to Apple's proprietary AirPlay, or Intel's Wi-Di.
Mobile connectivity is a work in progress. 801.11ac, currently in Draft 3 mode, should be ratified some time in 2013, and should see greater adoption next year in mobile devices. Vendors will always look for an edge to hawk their wares, and the high-res LCD angle is pretty much tapped out. High speed connectivity (wireless) is an obvious hook, since onboard storage will always be limited, and multimedia will need to be streamed.
I'm coming to the conclusion that the SD-less Nexus deal is a business decision rather than a tech decision. Goog sez: "I need a cheapo device with great specs to push the platform. In addition to the perks of being a preferred partner, I'll cripple it to allow you to differentiate. Nexus device will come with little storage and no SD slot." This has been true for all Nexus toys to date, even with devices that already has existing SD slot, eg the LG Optimus G being sold for $549 unlocked. Goog had to dumb the N4 down enough to justify the $300 price point.
Wifi hard drives probably would be better.

Scratch that then. The GoFlex seems interesting, but there is no need for a 500gb spinner drive.

Why is making one such a big deal? Any company with the means for mass production could make silly profit releasing microsticks, there are like 100.000.000 devices with no microSD slot.
Anyways... do these devices naturally support external storage via USB or does it take extra tweaking (and risking warranty)?

I think it has something to do with micro usb ports not being as robust as usb ports and easier to break.
Imo them tiny usb sticks are surely small enough to dramatically lower the chance of damaging the micro usb port.
Even though there is almost no chance you could ever have an NFC SD card reader (NFC is only meant for transferring very small amounts of data, in the killobites range), there is this remedy on the way (If it gets funded).
And until then there is CHEAP ebay products...

For most, if not all android devices, you need to root your device and download a 3rd party app to get it to mount usb storage. So it wouldn't exactly be simple plug 'n' play for your average consumer. That's probably the biggest obstacle to mass-market production of micro usb memory sticks.

Anyone tried a 512GB micro SD card yet?

So I'm wondering if anyone has tried. I have a 256GB card already that works fine but I'm running out of space (Yes I'm carrying quite a lot of music with me and yes I do see it as a good thing) my music collection is bigger than 256GB and would like to carry more so that's why I asking.
I know the max is 256GB but I don't know if that's down to hardware (and card slot) or what
No one?
From my knowledge it's only up to 256, so if you get a 512, it may not work. Sorry haven't tried it yet, but as per the spec of poco it's only up to 256. I had a different phone before, a galaxy a8 2018 which suppprted up to 256 as well and when i tried my friend's 512gb it didn't recognize it, so most likely same will happen with the poco

I would also have like to use a 512GB card. Does anyone know why this limitation exists? Is it a hardware constraint with the card reader, or a firmware or O/S constraint? I naively thought that SDXC compatibility would allow anything up to 2TB, but it's clearly not as simple as that.

That was definitely not my experience with other phones. Usually cards with higher than phone rated capacity work just fine.
From my understanding when phone manufacturers say up to 256 gb SD card supported they are saying that cause at that point of time that's the highest SD card available in the market. Most phones that can support 256gb will support higher capacities too.

I have a 512Gb Huawei memory card on my Poco F1 working fine, I haven't reached the 256Gb capacity because I've just received today. But so far so good ?
Lexar 512GB 633x (black / blue) from Aliexpress is working fine. At the moment 217GB is filled on the card.
(AOSP Lineage 16)
Sir,
Sir,
I don't know if you have found an answer to your question as of yet but I have. I've purchased several different 512gb cards knowing that I had some use for them somewhere. The fact is that the Poco F1 does see 512 gigabytes... And then down the rabbit hole we go. After about 20 to 30 minutes of you installing the card and moving over all kinds of information, the Poco F1 begins to forget things. That's the only way I know how to put it. all the sudden some of the stuff that you have moved over to the card is not reachable even though you still see some of the shortcuts or some of the things that point to it depending on what program you're using and the next thing you know after about an hour and a half two hours it also can't find those either and then some of the program start to crash. These are not programs that I have you some third-party where to move over to the card at all. I didn't move over any software to the card I'm just talkin about moving over some of the things that it was to the card. and then you'll notice after a few more hours that the card is unreadable. The way that you can fix this is to go ahead and put it into any computer and I used a program called mini it's a freeware program to recover the lost partition. then I put it right back in the phone and at first the phone fights with and everything else but you can get it to look at it and see it again only to repeat the exact same problem over and over and over again. The problem seems to be exacerbated if you were to use a torrent program to save data to the driver's if it was a download folder from multiple sources at once. I tried everything I could. I even tempted fate a little bit by saying if I could use aparted the cell phone version in order to partition the drive into two different types of partitions one of them course being the f2fs partition I was trying to see if I could successfully divide the memory card into two partitions so that the computer or cell phone would see them as two separate entities does relieving the problem of it seeing larger than 256. this was not successful though I cannot promise that I did everything correctly. I would greatly appreciate any information you happen to have about this. I have several of these 512gb cards and some of which I saved a lot of money on some of which I spend a lot of money on but they all seem to operate the exact same with the exact same problem. if you had any suggestions on how to add that to a Asus tablet that I'm now having the exact same problem with and much lower micro SD card total capacity sizes than the Poco F1 s I would greatly appreciate that too. The Asus laptop that I'm dealing with is an Asus e203m and it comes with 32GB of real special fast memory that uses hard drive and so you can see we're picking this up for almost nothing is a great deal provided that you're a little tech-savvy can work with clouds quite a bit and hopefully find the solution to the problem and adding a 500 gigabyte micro SD card. The problem is that you can't partition those the way that you'd like or you think that you could. but for me I really love computers and love to turn branches on the weekend so to speak. I'd also love to learn anyting you might be willing to share about partitioning and the like.I know that windows will only see the first partition of a microSD card. but then who wants to be limited to just Windows anyway.

I have Samsung Evo Select 512 gigs and been using it since 6 months.
I have it full almost 90-95%+ full everytime as i load a lot of movies in it. During the time of writing it was 97% full.
It is formatted to exfat and is working perfectly.
There is no data loss or anything like that after 256 gigs.
I hope this answers all your questions.
If you have any more questions just let me know.
