[Q] Help please! about installing custom rom and partitioning. - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

Do i still need to manually partition my sd card before installing custom rom? or is there any rom's which doesnt require partition of memory card? It is because my usb sd card reader is broken and i dont know of any other way in partitioning sd except mini tool wizard.
can you please advise me about this?
thanks.

I didn't partion mine when I just updated to FroyoComb v1.5 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1085607 by D4rKn3sSyS
I did the steps mentioned on my website here if that helps

@vdciii
If U R going to install ROM based on Android 2.2+ U don't have to have Ur card partitioned (and even having it could block possibility to move apps to SD)

Well ROM u will be flashing should most probably be having apps2sd natively-
HENCE NO NEED TO PARTITION ANYTHING

how about link2sd and flashing cm7?
would that affect the flashing of the rom? or is it possible?

You really got to be specific. Would what affect flashing a rom? and is what possible?

Well you'll have to disable app2sd which will be natively supported, and yeah you can use links2sd and it won't effect flashing, but I wonder is links2sd supports gingerbread on which cm7 is based????

search for app2sd in the x10 forums or link2sd on android market. other than using these third party apps, theres no way to move apps to your sdcard on eclair 2.1 .
@424aca: there is no such "box" in android 2.1!

so have you solve your problem?
1st you have to partition your sdcard to ext2 using partition tools. go here and download and install it
further instruction already in the link but u jz have to make 2 partition, 1 is FAT32 and the 2nd EXT2.
for the 2nd partition, u jz need 900-800mb. too much will cause instability

LG P500 Slow and low memory

I have the froyo final installed. The problem that happens is the delay to restart the applications when I turn on my phone. Usually one minute or more for all icons to open the main menu from LG. Most applications are installed on my card and still am low on memory on the phone, only 30mb. I'm using an application to move the phone card that is pro APPS 2 SD. I have installed the Gemini that also moves the applications. My card is not partitioned. What is the solution to the phone beginning faster and have more free memory the phone? Every application when I install on the phone says low memory. I have micro sd sandisk 16gb class 4.
i also had that problem, now i fresh flashed devoid and use darktremors a2sd script, everything starts up very fast...

You mean use the INTERACTIVE DATA2SD MOD? Just do partition and the flash card with this application? No need to install anything, everything is moved to the 512MB partition?

What is the difference between them? For example datasd and apps2sd you have to do flash. The link2sd you download the program in the market.
i think widgets cant me moved on sd card via links2sd...while in a2sd you can move everything ....even widgets ...they work as the phone assumes that the partition created is added to the internal memory...

install a custom rom. u get plenty of new features nd supports more apps. its just simple than partitioning the sd card nd runs smooth.
he's right.. i'd personally recommend minicm7 2.1.4.. t's super fast with no major bugs
Why partition?
Hi guys,
First few hours over here in the forum, learned to root my phone and did, mostly so I can use app2sd and install apps to my sd card
Is it necessary to partition the sd card and if so, why?
Thanks!

[Q] Partition Sd card with CWM?

I just did a full wipe as im about to install dagr8s ics alpha 2. And i was wondering should i do a sd card partition in clockwork mod? Will it help me? Free up more storage and work better? I already copied all my data to my pc so i can just download it back later
I'm curious about this as well - is there any benefit in doing this with ICS?

A well known YouTube member who lives this stuff and is quite prominent, once said that he would advice not to do this. I would like to get another opinion as well on this.

How to use Link2SD?

I know there are a LOT of guides for this and I was looking them but is taking me a hard time to understand what should I really do. I recently installed CyanogenMod 7.2 on my Live with Walkman. I have a 32 GB sd. The thing is I've been always used this app (Link2SD) WITHOUT my SD partitioned. The only thing I do is when an app is installed on phone (internal memory) I just move it with this app and that's it. I don't link it or anything cause I haven't partitioned my SD. But im curious about this, is it really necessary to make a 2nd partition for this? If it is possible, how can I do it? I have already read a LOT of guides but I want an easy way, I read somewhere it is even possible to make the partition via CWM, is that true? Also, I don't have a SD reader or anything, (I have a macbook) but I have Windows 7 installed in a virtual machine (Parallels).
So is there a way to do it that doesn't requiere a memory card reader? Please help

2nd partition is very necessary for Link2SD....bear in mind if you use the native app2SD (moving apps using Link2SD) it only move the apps(apk)...if you have 2nd partition and use Link2SD to link, then you can move not just the apps(apk), you can also move the data, dalvik-cache and the lib that come along with the apps....
i don't know if CWM can make partition but ROM manager can make it for you....

just follow the instructions on ROM manager on how to partition your SD....then ROM manager will reboot into CWM and it will make partition for you....just one draw back using ROM manager if you want to make partition is the biggest partition you can make is 512mb .....
i suggest you use MiniTool Partition Wizard to make 2nd partition....
The best way is using mini tool.
Backup your sdcard content first.
After that, open mini tool, delete your sdcard, create 2 new partitions. Both must be primary, set first with FAT32 or FAT. Then the second is your sdext. Make it to up to 1gb or less. Then create linux swap, 100mb is enough. Then press apply.
Done,

One question. If I do it using ROM manager, would it erase all data on my sd?
Sent from my WT19i using Tapatalk 2
Of course. Your sdcard will be formatted. That's why u should backup first

I think this guide will helpful to you. http://www.thespicygadgematics.com/2012/06/how-to-completely-move-android-apps-to.html
Ok thanks. It seems I successfully partitioned my SD card without losing ALL my data. The only problem is that the apps that were on SD (mostly games) are gone. But reinstalling them is not a big problem after all.
