[Q] CM 7.1 Text Messaging issue - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys
I have installed CM 7.1 joo4 on my phone and everything seems to be working great.....Except I can only send short messages.
If I try to send a message bigger then 1 standard message it says message sending error and wont send till I bring the character count back to 1 message (160 I think it is)
Any ideas what's causing this guys. I'm to noob at this to figure it out.
Checked options under messaging and cant see anything that would affect it.
P.s Had no problems with messaging until I installed 7.1 j004 So I think its a silly problem.
Thanks in advance guys.

I might have found the answer (just realised I can search a thread, very handy)
I read if I check the SMS split in message options and send a message, then turn it off again it should fix the problem.
I'll update this thread when I get to test it properly tomorrow (its 22:30 here, time for bed) incase anyone else seems to be having this small issue.

First, you need the correct baseband for custom ROMs. What baseband are you running, and who is your phone carrier? Baseband 2.1.65 is known to have this problem.
Basically what is happening is you cannot send mms, only sms. Long text are converted to mms.
I have AT&T and the APN settings circulated around the internet appear to be outdated for the X10 on 2.1 firmware. There are 2 APN's needed for correct mms settings.

Hey
Thanks for that info.
I'm using 2.0.52 (came with the Rom) My idea failed so I'm stuck.
Will check the web to see if I can maybe find the correct settings for the mms.
What you said makes perfect sense though agent. Thanks alot for that.
If anyone else can help or knows a fix, all help is aprciated.

Basebands don't come with custom roms on the X10, because we don't have access to the kernel. You have to flash baseband yourself with the flash tool.

OK, that's odd...
I downloaded CM 7.1 j004 and the baseband folder was in the zip file.
It says for installation guide on the same page
"THIS ROM WILL WORK CORECTLY ONLY ON BASEBAND 52
even if you have baseband 52 reflash baseband included in this package or rom can be unstable"
It could be I have mistake the rom I used as a custom rom but I don't think I did.
Here is a link to the rom I used (though I'm sure your aware of it) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=911364
thanks for the reply

You have to use the Flash Tool to flash baseband first, not xRecovery. Then install custom.zip with xRecovery. He even says to do a fresh flash of baseband 52.

Hey again.
I installed stock 2.1 again and reflashed the Rom using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=939812
Still no joy. Thanks again though agent. Maybe I will have to live with it for now. I can split the message and then I can send long (but seperated) messages.
Thanks again mate. Much appreciated.

Could be your APN settings?

I think your right agent. You think it would help if I did a fresh install and the did a killall servicemanager in the cmd terminal?

Its the baseband .52 issue

Heya guys
I looked around to see if there were any fixes for the baseband .52 issues and found that CM 7.1 has been updated from j004 to j005.
I installed the new version and it solved my problem. Now I just get WLOD when launching some apps which is nothing worth worrying about.
I'm seriously very grateful for your help guys. Problem might not have been solved by us but I learned alot in the process.
Hope this helps anyone else.
Thanks again people. Espically you agent. Very much appreciated.

[Q] Baseband version 2.1.55

HI, im new here since I got my X10 today. Just want to ask a simple question... everyone here seems to have baseband .54 as the lastest but I just update my phone and I got BB .55 with build number 2.1.1.A.0.6; can I flash freex10 beta 4 even with BB .55 ? Or can I even root it ? I want JIT like hell !
Edit : Rooted with SuperOneClickv1.5.5-ShortFuse ! NIce !
Edit : freeX10 beta 4 INstalled and working with new baseband .55 !
just make a backup with xrecovery and try it out!! If you get into bootloop you can just get back into xrecovery by turning on phone and pressing back button constantly until you're back in it, and go back to your backup.
That looks like a new build number to me! Is that the latest or only for your location? Thanks...
the rom seem to boot but wont reboot by himself like its suppose to do.
No service / Wifi ..
Not sure whether this is the right thread but I'd like to know a little more about the baseband function itself. When SE issues new ROMs they are specific to the type of device ie x10a and x10i.
Pretty much all the custom ROMs I've come across are for the x10i. Does this make the device perform diffirently for their designed radio characteristics?
I know of one thread that gave instructions on reflashing x10i that have been previously flashed to x10a(and visa versa) but I cannot seem to get to the bottom of what differences there are.
Do x10a users loose 850MHz if they flash a x10i ROM?
Anone that can point me to the right thread if this is not much appreciated.

So does the most recent edit to your first post mean that you got your service and Wifi working? If so, did it sort itself out or did you have to manually input your APN settings? Just asking because I'm going to update to beta4 from 2.1 baseband .55.

I installed JIT v2 using xRecovery on my stock 2.1.1.A.0.6 firmware without issue. It's about 50% faster (not as fast as a 2.2 froyo based rom) than stock.

You probably had an error with rom and it got your phone.
Try using flashtool with the updated firmware.
If that doesn't work try seus with the repair option.
Update this post with the info with what worked or what didn't.
ok .. tomorrow I'll download the firmware and I use the 2.1.A.0.435 FlashTool to update it, I already tried the HIS before but I will not try again if unsuccessful
Once done I'll update here, thanks!
I installed two new firmware version on all 2.1.A.0.435 and still not succeeded.
Then upgraded by SEUS and continued the same thing ..
Any other solution?
Is it x10i or x10a, can you still remember your original baseband/frimware?
It´s X10a , sometimes when I hang up and call him again, he dials normally, and makes the call, but then when I unplug it back to the problem
now my phone is so

you will need to read the thread that the rom came from. jerpelea's 2.3 rom is using a customised .52 baseband file - maybe it will work but i am unsure.
the original thread from tripnraver will tell you which bb you need.
Can't wait to check this rom. I've read the tripnaver threat and the outcome is rather disappointing - nothing's released but at least I've learned bit more. Thanks a lot, mrtim!
For anyone who's got same problem - I've ended up uploading 2.2.1 by tripnraver (kernel 2.6.29 [email protected] #1) to my mobile and it works perfectly fine - radio, wi-fi, market, etc. Haven't tried camera yet but I'm really pleased. So if anybody's having same problems as I had - try it!

[Q] Should I upgrade to Android 2.2?

First, sorry if this has been asked, I actually did try to find the answer on my own but no I cant seem to find it.
1st: Should I upgrade to 2.2?
2nd: Are Froyo and MIUI roms similar or is one better than the other?
3rd: Are there any limitations? Such as something not working yet? Or have most major bugs been fixed?
4th: It's obvious this voids the warranty, if I need to send this thing in for repair, can the original OS be put back on?
From what I've heard 2.2 is alot better, and would most likely be welcomed, I just need my questions answered so I don't screw myself over before I do this.

1: its really up to you.
2: Regular froyo looks like stock android, miui looks more like an iphone rom. The speed and performance of the rom depends on how the Creator of the rom optimized it.
3: most things are working on most roms. On some, certain features like wifi, or GPS doesn't work, but those are mostly the roms that are in beta. I have yet to find any custom rom with a FULLY working camera.......
4: yes it can. You coould use pc companion, or SEUS, flashtool, and there's even a method to get back to stock with out using usb(if the ports broken or something...)
I switched to miui(based on froyo) because most other roms seemed kinda the same to me. Just remember to read the instructions before flashing a new rom, and check that you have the right baseband.
Happy flashing

Well the MIUI looks good.
Is there anything besides the camera that I should know about?
Also when you say not fully working camera, what do you mean?
Also my baseband says 2.1.55, so I'm assuming when someone asks for my baseband it's 55? So I need to find a rom that supports baseband 55 right?

On trips miui 1.5.5 which I am using, its smooth and fast, everything works except the camera (zoom + light not working). Its recommend to use baseband 61 or higher for best results, however I have heard of problems with 61 (but they were probably false) so I am using baseband 54, and everything seems to work. Not sure how 55 would work (and yes your baseband is 55) but you can try it, or you can flash a new baseband via flashtool.

I looked on the forum and people were saying Cobrato's rom was pretty good.
But on the instructions to install it, it's just saying flash this flash that.
Is there a guide that actually tells you what to do?
I found this dummy's guide:

But it doesn't mention anything about flashing the entire OS.

Do you have xrecovery? That is very useful for flashing roms and such (but not basebands)
Once you have xrecovery, simply copy all of those files to you sd card, reboot, tap the back button when Sony Ericsson appears on the screen, backup, full wipe, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache, wipe battery stats, flash the zip files in the order they recomend (you will need to flash the baseband patch) ect ....
To get it, there is a thread in the Dev section where you can download install xrecovery. EDIT: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=859571
If you need any specific help with xrecovery, just ask

I downloaded the XRecovery Installer.
Busybox is installed.
But I get an error trying to install xRecovery, the sh command won't install says:
cp: can't stat 'sdcard/Android/data/com.zoz33.xrecoveryInstaller/busybox' No such file or directory
any idea whats wrong?
Edit: Oh I'm using the installer APK from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9561575
Should I use something else?
that happened to me the first time as well. you will have to do the manual installation as described on the xrecovery thread.
Can i use something other than root explorer thats free or do I have to pay up?
you can use any file explorer that can access the system partition, i will try to find an acceptable one now...
EDIT: File Expert from the market is acceptable
Ok I got it installed, it looks like sh was already there but I overwrote it.
I tried that thing you said, pushing the back button when I see SE, but it didn't do anything.
Hmm it can be a bit trickey sometimes... just try again. Power off/hold down power button till it vibrates/as soon as Sony Ericsson appears on the screen repeatedly tap the back button (with the arrow) until you get to the xrecovery screen. Goodluck
Sent from my X10 TripNMiUI-IRIS using XDA Premium App
Still nothing.
Going to try downloading flashtool, says if I reinstall xrecovery from it I can boot directly into it.
That was my next suggestion... once your in flashtool, connect your phone then Ask Root Perms then press the xrecovery button and it should install it. Then you can press advanced>xrecovery>reboot into xrecovery or use the back button method.

[Q] sms while in 3g

can anyone help
i seem to have a problem with sending a sms while 3g is on, everything else works fine. i've tried with a few custom roms but having the same prob with them. when i revert back to froyo 2.2.1 its ok.
ive searched all over google and on ere, a few people have had the same prob but the only solution i've found is using a app called automateit. But shouldnt it work without the need of this app
at the moment im using fla.sh custom rom. if i do the *#1234# i have
PDA: s5830xwkpn
PHONE: s5830xwkp6
CSC : NONE
apn settings for t-mobile
i flashed the rom from coderom 2
the problem is probably down to me, but have tried loads of stuff, from flashing just a csc file to checking and re checking apn settings and smsc number but still not able to text while 3g is on.
anybody know have any ideas thanks
anyone got a clue then. its doing my head in. think i narrowed it down to the modem file as i went back to stock froyo 2.2.1 which i can text while 3g is on and played around with csc files which no matter which one i chose as long as the apn settings were right i could still send a text.

Looking at the *#1234# thingy , how can you have NO csc ?
Infused with CM7 for Galaxy Ace using XDA App
not sure really. flashed from coderom v2 to fla.sh. i do the *#1234' on the fla.sh rom and its gone. so checked to see if i have a csc file using root exployer. and not one there. so god knows.
but the main problem i have is sending a sms while in 3g, its has happend on all the custom roms that i've tried. so as not alot of people have asked about it then it must be me.
for instance to get from stock froyo 2.2.1
PDA: S5830XWKB7
MODEM: S5830XXKB1
CSC: S5830OXXKB6
to coderom v1 using odin
BOOT: S5830XXKPH
PDA: PDACODEROM
MODEM: S5830XXKPH
CSC: S5830SERKPH
i simply fill all the required fields in odin with the corresponding ones from what i downloaded. apboot to boot, modem to modem ect. is that right?
turned off, insert sim and sd card. reboot then checked apn settings. go to send a text. text comes back as failed. turn data off and it sends.
flash back to stock froyo and it all works again. the only way around it that i've found is using automateit app.
THANKS
This is the same problem with T Mobile. I think it is to do with the CSC I can't find the XEU CSC anywhere.

Hi i have tryed the following XEU SER OXX and all fail while on 3G.. I to have been haunted by this.. Im on orange uk.. I also think it has somthing to do with the modem.. Maybe flashing the modem from froyo and the rest from gingerbread might fix it.. Only other this is if i put an o2 sim in i have no problems at all.. Seem only to bother orange & t-mobile as i think they are now the same..
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium
i think it does have something to do with the modem. i have fla.sh rom running at the mo, which i flashed from coderom v2, did the *#1234' and had no csc code at all. realising from that the only rom, as i've tried a few now, that i have been able to send a sms while 3g has been on was the stock froyo 2.2.1.
so what i've done now is extracted the whole contents of the csc file with 7zip. copied them to my sd card. and using root explorer copied, SW_Configuration (HML) CSCVersion (text) and the csc (Folder) over to /system. rebooted the phone and *#1234# again and now i have a csc which is OXXKB6, which is the one that came with stock. checked by doing *#INFO*IMEI# and it already changed to XEU and now have a list of sales code.
GOT EXCITED AT THIS POINT haha
sent a text and within secs came back as fail.........
tried flashing just the modem but dosnt boot up after. thats if i'm doing it right
odin - ops (cooper) - PHONE (modem) then start.
now i've googled about having a TMU sales code which is T-MOBILE but as i've read you only need this if your phone is branded to T-MOBILE. as my phone is not then i cant seeing this working but will give a go.
is there a way of flashing just a modem. ?????
I dod the same just flashing the modem file and wouldnt boot ither.. I think you need to use all files while flashing.. Boot code csc from ginger and modem from froyo all as same time.. If it work im affrade the SOD would come back but not 100% on that..

BOOT (Gingerbread)
PDA (Gingerbread)
MODEM (Froyo)
CSC (Gingerbread)

Not sure guys. This seem to be a problem for Virgin, T-mobile and Orange users in the UK using SGA with Gingerbread. These companies share networks too, yes? The Virgin Community (self help) has some input from VM staff that suggests that they are aware of the issue and that's why they haven't released GB themselves for SGA - not sure that it's as simple as a quick file replacement to resolve. Apologies if I'm wide of the mark here as I'm new to Android but I would have though that if it was a single file/apk that they would have resolved it quickly?
But what about the leaked polish gingerbread rom for orange.. Wouldnt that not work or are the freq different???
Sent from my GT-S5830 using xda premium
This was posted on the VM Community Forums yesterday on a thread about GB on SGA:
"I am still new to the phone but so far I have had no issues sending texts (getting use to conversation style sms),calling (call quality not as good as my older Tocco) or browsing.
I got the deal on two phones last Thursday and insisted they had the latest gingerbread version. On receipt of the phones I installed Kies and tried a firmware update and received the not supported message. Following firmware version was displayed:
PDA:KPU / PHONE:KP7 / CSC:KP1(VIR)
Without checking the phone itself I called virgin support and couldnt tell me when the firmware would be released -however just before I was about to send them back I checked the "about" on the phone itself and was pleasantly surprised.
The phone itself reports
android 2.3.3
baseband version S5830XWKP7
Kernel version 2.6.35.7-perf-CL48464 [email protected]#1
Build number GINGERBREAD.XWKPU
I had also looked into alternative ways to flash the firmware(odin) but I guess this means unless you want to risk bricking the phone folk have to wait for virgin to release it I'm afraid."
