Sooo 2 new 3D's just arrived on my front door - HTC EVO 3D

As the topic suggests, 2 of these bad boys just got dropped off by Fed-Ex, courtesy of NationLink Wireless (our local corporate rep). I am currently charging them, and will report back what the live model is like in terms of battery life, instead of what the current reports are from the beta model that was being displayed at the expo's.

I'm seriously getting anxious about this. I just want my phone, and I have to wait until the Sprint store opens at 8a on Friday. If I don't get off these boards, I'm going to rage out...

thanks for the new thread !

totally with you. I held together reeeeaaallly good these past 2 months....I can't believe it's only 2 days away...I nearly threw a chair threw a window when June 3rd/4th/5th didn't pan out....but I've been all calm about it, but today I got out of work...decided to check the board real quick before I hit the gym....that was 3 hours ago, I don't think I'll make it to the gym today....totally throwing off my routine...I'm on the verge of having a fncking panic attack from the excitement...band practice is cancelled cuz my bassist is sick but it's probably for the better, he's fncking sick of hearing about this goddamned phone....so I'm just sitting here, panic-raging in excitement....I've actually scolded people about not searching, I rarely even care...this forum is out-of-fncking-control right now....I've gotta get out of the house, the girlfriend is going to be so pissed at this new phone...I finally mellowed on the OG evo this past month or two and have had the same ROM install going for almost 4 months now...that _never_ happens....and if HTC doesn't "unlock" this god damned bootloader soon I'm going to crucify someone...
...I need to mellow out...it's beer time

I have to wait till I get home...I know its there but I am in Boston traffic....it is raining, hopefully the UPS guy had the sense to put it inside my door rather than leaving in on my porch
.........at 8 am today someone poisons the coffee....do not drink the coffee. More instructions will follow.
Cordially,
Future Dwight

Not sure what this file is but would you mind searching for Smart_io.crd with an sd card reader before powering the phone on. Saw a few Devs asking about it in the development section so it must be important toward getting us root access lol.

I can't do that with these 2 models, we already have plans for them, however we have another dozen coming in a few days in a separate shipment, and I can definitely scan those devices.

The phone has been off the charger for 21 hours sofar, the entire time we have had the 4G radio turned on and connected. There has been about 20 minutes of 3D and non-3D videos taken to compare how they look, and we've taken about 30 3D and standard pictures.
No phone calls to the device yet, Battery is still around ~40%, 21 hours, moderate use, 4g radio turned on the entire time, looks like this phone is going to have a very nice battery life.

The phone has some interesting battery saving options in the settings menu. By default at 15% battery it's set to go into a battery saving mode. You can change what percent it does it at, or if it does it at all. I think HTC really did some tweaking to the battery system here.

Isn't the power saving feature the same thing that was released in the GB 2.3.3 version? If so, that's not new..

Agree, the Nexus S 4G is a POS, its what Im using now too and I get horrible data and its relatively slow, its barely faster than my HTC Fuze. Its battery isnt all that impressive either, it lasts a day but for a phone people say has amazing battery, I just dont see it. I really barely use it and 4G is barely faster than 3G and Im in Orlando.

A good switch?

I've been on the G2x since about when it came out (horrible decision...) I've made that phone mostly usable to me but because of nVidia, the devs are always going to be stuck with no drivers for Tegra.
I see I can get the Amaze for free right now at T-Mo. Is it worth it? I know it doesn't have ICS yet but I assume that's coming (there's a certain update to ICS exchange support that makes it a very important update for me so I can get my work email)
Battery life on the G2x has always been pretty miserable for me too. I got that phone way too early and there wasn't enough people using it to really research it at the time. I'm hoping to avoid that mistake with whatever my next phone is.
1- The Amaze does have ICS, in fact, you wont find a GB Rom in the front page of development
2- Amaze battery Life is amazing for me
3- gdfgsdgrgregesrgersgsg??!?!?!
4-Search before posting?
5- a squirrel??
The Amaze does have ICS with Sense 3.6
The phone might look free but they will charge you the extra $15-$20 a month on your bill for the phone.
Don't get me wrong, this is a great phone and since we got the ICS leak its been even better. But with other phones releasing around the corner it might be a wise choice to wait for different options. But I'm not saying that the new phones will be better just saying wait till you find out what you really want.

I know about the ICS leak but that's not official yet And I love rooting my phones...but I've been using my G2x for a year so I'm quite acquainted with all my options. It will always take a while to figure out what ROMs are good for me (personally) or not on any given phone. I've been bitten by too many 'promised' official releases that never happened to never assume.
I'll do a little more research on this one but maybe I'll keep waiting. If I can make it until Google releases all their phones...

True the phone itself I can easily say is my favorite! I've owned 8 android phones. All rooted and custom rommed of course. Its sexy, great camera, great build quality, fast&stable. HUGE cons are the battery life and the dev support.

To be honest, I think the Amaze is so-so. I've been fortunate enough to have tried quite a few phones and the Amaze hasn't done a great job standing out.
The biggest problem with this phone is that the battery life is beyond terrible - worse than any phone I've had in the past. I mainly use my phone (or any of my smartphones for that matter) to respond to business emails and texts. My phone doesn't even last half of the day without needing a full recharge.
I had a G2X and although I wasn't too fond of its build quality (especially how the screen is not completely flat), I would suggest that you stick with it. There aren't too many improvements (in my opinion) that justifies the jump.

I'm very happy that i got the Amaze when i did but back then there was little to no Dev on it,but in the past month or so since S-OFF & the ICS "leak" there's been a ton of Development for it,I'm loving SpeedROM which is blazing fast & has great battery life.I came from a Sensation(which i still have but am looking to sell),the Sensation has a shiat ton of ROMs but they're all the same basically. The Amaze has a beast of a camera,is blazing fast with both cores running & Sense 3.6 is the icing on the cake,i just can't wait for Sense 4.0.
So...In my opinion the HTC Amaze is a GREAT phone(build quality is superb). If i were to add another line I'd grab another one ;-)

I agree with everything except booming development... There are less than 10 devs and not much variety to choose from. Not to mention, they're all the same devs we had with gingerbread.

Yeah it's so weird. Some people are reporting excellent battery life and others are reporting poor battery life. If it helps, I'm using the stock ROM on 2.3.4 (HTC Sense 3.0). I'm getting a replacement this Friday since the speaker randomly pops when listening to music and using the buttons on the bottom. Hopefully the phone lasts longer than this one or else I'm going to have to get a replacement battery. If none of those fix the problem, time to fire up the old MyTouch.

First off you are incorrect, that was a classic plan price, not value. Value is only sold online currently as SIM only service, phone and EIP are not given online.
regardless, the free Amaze is over and its back to $150
So what are you looking for? I've used an S2, Sensation, HD2, Vibrant, and Amaze within the past 18 months. Here are my pros/cons of my Amaze experience.
Pros:
Stable - few reboots
Best of breed camera
Build is solid
HTC mail app is better than some Android skins
Good form factor - big enough, but not too big
Resilient screen - seems more scratch-resistant than some others
Dedicated camera/camcorder buttons
Impressive data speeds
Cons:
Original battery started to occasionally lose sync with OS (which resulted in $8 to Carrier in exchange for backup battery)
Low Development on XDA
Light bleed from softkeys
NFC doesn't seem to work as advertised
Since getting the Amaze, my priorities have shifted from constant theming and modding to other things because of the lack of development and (until recently) impossibility of S-off. Now I've come to appreciate being able to effortlessly RMA my phone if necessary, and while waiting for ICS was occasionally difficult, Tmo anounced its availability in 5 days. I expect battery life to increase, latency to decrease with dual-core utilization, hopefully usefulness added to the NFC capability. But as mentioned before, if you need Roms enjoy your phone, look elsewhere.

How is it not weird. Some people are talking/surfing/watching movies for hours on their phone and get hardly any battery depreciation whereas others (me included) are checking emails and texts and not even getting 6 hours of usage.
Don't wake the phone? What's the point of having a cell phone if you're not going to use it...

Lol maybe u took me the wrong way. People with great battery life use aftermarket batteries and apps like juice defender. Some of them may also exaggerate their usage. Bottom line doesn't change.
With stock OEM battery, no juice defender, AND you use your phone, you ABSOLUTELY have ****ty battery life. It's simple. Not weird.
Also, some people use more widgets than others, more sync options, notification options... This isn't rocket science
Also, tapatalk is the biggest battery hog ever.

Htc better step their game up

Motorola aiming to upgrade all possible devices to Jelly Bean, promises to give you $100 credit if it can't
http://www.engadget.com/2012/09/05/motorola-jelly-bean-upgrades/
That's actually pretty interesting.
Thinking about it a bit it seems to work out in Moto's favor quite a bit. They'll update their newest phones and the people who are using their older phones will have incentive to get a newer model and thus give them more money.
HTC could do something like this.
I don't know that I'd buy another motorola, don't get me wrong, I love the phones, but the locked bootloader and slowness of updates kinda kills it for me. They're probably doing this to keep business from going elsewhere due to these problems.

Not exactly the same. If they failed to upgrade I wouldnt want to buy another phone they'll fail with
thats not exactly hard to do since they have the line in there all "new and currently selling devices..."....doesn't cover stuff sold 1yr ago...so in that case HTC could easily cover this as the ONE series as a whole should be able to get it....ie they could say it and NOT upgrade the EVO3D and not have to pay 100bux as the evo3d isn't being sold anymore brand new since its EOL at sprint...
I'd take a HTC running ICS over moto running JB any day of the week!
Can't stand the subpar display moto uses.
Slightly off topic but HTC should have hired Steve Kondik
Got stuck with a permalock bootloader on the photon and complained until I got an early upgrade to this phone. Plus they promised ics for the phone right outta the gate and peeps will be lucky to get it before 2013. I will not buy moto again, no way no how.

HTC should do the same AS WELL AS make it mandatory that all their phones have removable batteries AND make them last all day because NONE of the current crop of phones has a battery that can last 24 hours. All the screen shots that show that much time are from people that don't really use the phone much at all.
Also a micro sd in addition to internal storage should have been mandatory

i managed 2 1/2 days mediium use and almost 3 days with light to no use, using it hardcore on 3g for hours on end i managed 5 before i started running the battery down (using phone while charging) and even now that i definitely know ive shortened the battery life i can still manage 2.75 hours non stop hardcore use on 3g, when i switch to wifi this phone becomes the terminator and refuses to die lol if only i got that kind of use on cm, but hey its a nightly and these last 2 update are very close to my normal life, pretty soon they will surpass it

Over a day with over 3 hours of screen on time which included video streaming is pretty damn impressive considering how I was using a high brightness setting and how big the screen on this phone is.
You're expecting too much without showing any understanding of why it isn't easy to get a high end phone to last all day. It has high powered components that draw more power, as well as a bigger screen than most phones on the market. What we get from it is impressive and it isn't going to dramatically improve anytime soon, unless they start to include DROID RAZR MAXX sized batteries, which I doubt will happen soon.

I don't think i expect too much, just a battery that can last 24 hours with normal usage.
I couldn't even get 24 hours out of the raxr maxx although it came the closest.
Basically you're saying you get over a day while only using the phone for 3 hours. On a work day I'll do 4 hours just to and from work, then time during lunch and sporadic phone checks during the day and after so many hours of use, phone dies.
My galaxy s 3 had gotten me 17 hours once, but the phone was just sitting there for the most part.
I tested the standby time and just let it drain and got 3 days it of it, would have been more of i didn't send that text lol
I just want a better battery

You're getting stuck on the concept that you're only "using" your phone for as long as the screen is on. Even when the screen is off, it's doing a lot of work.
With current battery technology paired with high powered phones, you just aren't going to get that full day with a ton of screen on use that you want. We all want that. It's just not really possible right now.

[Q] [QIs S-off coming and is the dna a good phone choice?

Will a full root come to the dna with S-off etc ? I am thinking. With it's HUGE screen and TINY battery that it was a bad decision.I just got it today.. Is the battery all that bad ? (partial power user) I can take it back within 14 days Let me know what you think

You can root it today. And battery life is great, don't expect it to be better than the razr maxx though.

I dunno man, I just unlocked the bootloader and rooted all last night. AND, I work in a concrete box, with almost no signal. I still get through the day with moderate use at work with battery to spare. :highfive:

It doesn't work directly anymore, you have to use Jcase's exploit to make the HTC website think that the DNA is another phone. Then after you unlock the bootloader you can flash a recovery and SuperSU or Superuser.
You just can't obtain S-OFF yet.

This is pretty hard I rooted my Thunderbolt and it was a breeze I don't get how to do this LOL
The exploit is fairly complicated. Myself, I'm holding out hoping that maybe it can become slightly less complicated. Imo, the phone is awesome even on stock and until there's more development I don't see a need for my usage. The battery is pretty awesome btw. I get 4.75 screen on time. Trying to tweak it to make it to 5 hours.
Sent from my HTC6435LVW using xda app-developers app
What are you guys talking about? Its just typing (and in fact, really just copy/paste) in a bunch of commands into a CMD prompt. Easy breezy, takes 10 minutes or so if you know how to follow instructions.
jcase has already said that he has no plans to create a "1-click" method...
IMO, if you are not comfortable following directions, dont know what ADB is, etc, perhaps you should not really be rooting your phone?
And the battery is just fine. I'm having no issues getting through the day with a single charge. The only way I could see the battery become a concern is if someone is streaming Netflix for 2-3 hrs a day. Then you probably wont get through a full day on 1 charge.
I think the main concern is the risk of bricking if instructions are not followed properly. That + other roots have been fairly straightforward so we're spoiled I personally haven't rooted mine yet either, though I do plan on doing so soon.
To the OP: the battery life has surpassed my expectations, and I'm easily lasting an entire day with my DNA. I use my phone all day for texts, web browsing, and phone calls, with around an hour of my commute being underground with no signal. Even with all this, I never need to charge it before bedtime. So yeah, I'd say this phone is definitely worth getting, and you'll be pleasantly surprised by the battery's performance.

Agreed on both points; I've been very happy with the battery and I, too, will eventually make time to root this baby - probably step-by-step with the Youtube video.

That's exactly what I'm planning to do too lol. We should set up some sort of community root day, where we're all on some sort of chat and watching the video at the same time

Any bugs you want HTC to know about?

hey guys, so some of you look familiar from the Rezound forums, good to see ya! I finally got a DNA and gave my rezound to my older brother for xmas, and much like last year, i've noticed a couple of bugs. the good thing is, though, that i was in touch with HTC tech support last year, where i actually spoke to them over the phone a few times over some bugs we had with the rezound. after noticing a few, i decided to open my old claim and talk with the same rep who i dealt with last year, as he was very knowledgeable and a great guy overall!
so a few bugs i've noticed so far:
1.) the audio/video delay lag, where in every video player, including youtube, audio lags behind video (thanks milan, i forgot which one it was lol)
2.) the home button lag much like the s3 with s-voice enabled
3.) not much of a bug, but for some stupid reason HTC enabled "auto enhance" on the camera by default! you can't turn it off. this was something big wtih the rezound that the number one thing we urged users who asked how to get good pics was to turn auto enhance off. it really softens the image and makes it look bad in low light, IMO. also, they made auto focus on by default and you can't switch it. i reported this, and he confirmed that it's just part of the software, but they do value our feedback, and i know for a fact this guy does, as the bug with audio recording on the rezound WAS fixed when 4.0 was OTA'd to it.
so i brought both of these up with them, and they're looking into it, which is great. anyone have any bugs they notice? i keep forgetting the little ones when it's time to write a reply to HTC, so it would be good to get them in here.
HTC def. does listen to us, guys.
either way, i LOVE this phone. so snappy, and has an amazing screen and form factor to it! the camera is great, but you just have to play around with the options to get a great pic. the audio sounds great with the beats as well. i've yet to get a wireless charger, but i think i'm going to start looking around for it.
great to be a part of the new community, guys!
When I power on my screen & drag down my notification bar to select a text it sends me to the first text from that person. This does not happen every time, but often enough.

right right! i get that too. my rezound had that. i'll def let them know.

you know, i brought this up. i said, why is it that the One X has the option to make recent apps button into menu by long press etc..what possible reason could verizon have had for getting rid of it? he said he doesn't know, but it was def the carrier's plan to do that, not HTC's. so ridiculous

I've barely used my phone today as you can tell by the screen on time and the app percentages. So... something is wrong.

That looks like you could have a rogue app or something. I've never seen mine above 25. And its at 11 right now.

The worst part is since I'm not rooted, I would have to go through and figure it out by uninstalling them or disabling them one by one. I don't see how I have a rogue app.
I can't even figure out where to start looking. Ughhhh.
Really to be honest at close to 5 hrs screen on time I will get 12 hours total. Is your phone 100% stock or do you have any maybe non kosher pirated apps going on that might not show up in that app. Kernel is still software related and I'm not understanding why yours is so out if wack with everybody else. You have complained about this in several threads now.

dude, you've got something wacky going on. my kernel is never above like 17% and DEF doesn't keep it awake anywhere near that long, even after a 14 hour day...

HTC M9 disassembled
Just got mine. Any questions?
Hi all. So I just picked up my AT&T HTC One M9. If anyone has any questions about anything please let me know. Ill be happy to try to help.
It is currently stock S-On and bootloader locked and I am going to keep it that way for now but if there is anything you would like to know just ask.
Ok so a few things I have noticed after using it for about an hour.
1. It does not get hot.....it is actually much cooler than the laptop I am currently using.
2. I love the look and feel of the HTC keyboard but it doesn't change im to I'm.......I hate that!
3. There are a ton of available themes. They all say free, so I assume that in the future some will actually cost money.
4. It is definitely not as slick as the M8.
5. The camera hump on the back is perfectly placed to give a bit of leverage in holding it.
6. The placement of the power button sucks, I always hit the volume thinking it is the power button, even though the power button is textured.
7. LAG......NONE, ZERO, ZILCH. Smoothest phone I have EVER used.
8. There is a personalization option to keep the soft buttons hidden!!!
From where?
I'm confused if its available now online or if its just a pre order. And if it is available now I would rather pick it up in stores so I could have it faster.
Bought it from a guy that got it at the pre launch event in Los Angeles the other day.
What's the Antutu score? Does it get hot when you run the Antutu benchmark?
One for the long run: how does the battery life hold up, and in particular: what SOT are you getting out of it?
It did get a little warmer while running the benchmark. But no where near enough to be uncomfortable.
Not sure if the OP got the unlocked version, but does it support AT&T LTE?
No sorry mine is the AT&T version so no way to test that. I would assume so though.
ohhhh its amazing i will try it.
A reviewer complained about the device getting hot while watching videos. Can you confirm?
Also I thought the software was detecting benchmark apps and putting the chip at 100% when running them. All other times the chip is throttled. Do you think that is the case?
I can't decide on the M9 or the S6 that are branded by ATT as I'm just going to renew my contract for 2 years. I think with the M9 on ATT you will be able to root, unlock the bootloader, etc. An ATT S6 won't be able to do any of that from the past ATT Galaxys. Does that seem about right?

I can't tell if it is detecting benchmarks but the phone is lightning fast all the time. I did run the GPS yesterday for about an hour straight with the screen on and the phone definitely got hot. Not to hot to hold but enough to tell it was hot.
I will say after a couple of days use the battery seems pretty bad. I can't tell screen on time because I can't find it in the settings, but it will not come close to a full day on a single charge with heavy use. Probably close to 6-7 hours of heavy usage in my opinion.
