Questions on the Lingo - Thunderbolt Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ok, I have a thunderbolt so I decided to post this question here:
I really want to understand what language you guys are talking about when it comes to; kernel, adb, radios, etc.....
I do get confused on those and want to learn the vocab for the android. Point me to the right direction. thanks.

I'm doing these from what I've read. I really only understand half the stuff that is discussed here, but this is my best understanding.
Kernel: Not really sure how to explain it, but gives the operating system a base to work from as i understand it.
Radio: Is what interfaces the operating system with the network.
adb: adobe debugging bridge. There are several posts describing that in great depth.

johnny, wikipedia is a man's best friend
i can't post the link, but if you search for "kernel (computing), you'll find the article and the first paragraph explains it all....there's a nice diagram too lol
good luck!

Wait, you mean you can use the interwebs to look up information on things we want to know more about!?

I think you mean android debugging bridge. It's basically a framework you can install on your computer that can use to issue commands to your phone. you can use it to sideload apps, where you download the apps install file (apk) to your computer and then use adb commands to install it on your phone, thereby getting around any blocks verizon has put on the android market.

simplest instructions to put cm7 on touchpad

hey i really want to put cm7 on my touchpad but all the instructions i see are either outdated or to confusing...can i get any help or a link to maybe a simple thread thats mostly idiot proof videos would greatly help too....im not the smartest nut in the tree but i try....
thanks
Have you set up novacmd? If you havent ir cant figure it out its gonna be tough. The directions at rootzwiki are actually pretty simple
Sent by Logo the turtle
how would i do that. do you mind helping me a little?
The steps in the stickied thread is pretty simple. The steps are clearly numbered. The required files are linked. It's really as simple as it gets. You're not going to come across a guide telling you something like :
Step 1: Download this one file.
Step 2: Plug in Touchpad to PC via USB
Step 3: Run that one file to auto install
Sorry, it doesn't work that way...
I've seen the stickies and the download links says different things which I can't don't the actual download

You're embarking on a journey reserved for only the technically elite. Don't be lazy. People here won't usually force-feed answers to you like I just did...

Outdated? The sticky in the development forum and the sticky on CM7 forum are still valid.
Not to be a d*ck but if you cant follow those instructions, you shouldnt be trying to put Android on your TP.
Simple instructions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1305891
OP, this may be one of those cases where if you aren't comfortable with the directions in the sticky thread, it may be better to not install CM7 at this time, and wait for further development.
The bottom line is that there isn't a "simple" method at this point (at least not as simple as you are looking for), you are going to have to do a little legwork on your part, which may be risky to your TP depending on your level of expertise.

Check the stickies. Plenty of help there. You can also Google root after galaxy sgh-i777. Do not do anything until you fully understand. If there is a problem while rooting check the stickies for the unblock/return to stock thread. Also check the rules in the general sticky. Welcome to the galaxy.

I HIGHLY suggest you leave the phone stock. It is a great phone just the way it is. Especially if your new to Android phones. At least until you read up on all the pros and cons of rooting. Then read all the stickies in the forums. This is all suggested for your benefit.

This is a self-serve forum. As told you when you joined, you are expected to search for info and to read the stickies. Start with the FAQ. This is not the help desk. You only get what you put into it and simply creating threads for things that can be easily found by searching and reading will make you nothing but enemies in here. Respect the forum, its rules and the many people who "work" in here for free.
Read the stickies, search posts, do research.
You know are ready when you do not have to make these kinds of threads...

My GPU isn't working properly (some chinese MT6572 marketed as G+ K3)

Hello, the main problem is that any app using advanced graphics is crashing on me, so I decided to make a test and downloaded OpenGL ES 2.0 Demo to try.
And the result that I get was unbelievable, there's a gallery of my screenshots.

As for my phone, I already had a long story with it, there's the thread, where you can get all the info on the other site, but I'm not able to post links yet, but if you Google " Screwed up my G+ K3" you can find it.
If anyone can help me to get the GPU to work properly, I would be superthankful, I am already starting to lose my mind.
Seems like your GPU is damaged.

Can this be a result of bad drivers or something? I don't really know much about drivers on Android, if there are even some. There's a firmware for another GPU installed, so it might be the cause, but I got no idea how to fix it.

Very VERY likely if it was anything along those lines it would not be general user serviceable by any means.

Well, if I'm getting it right, there's actually nothing to do it that just by my hands then. Since the firmware thinks, that there's another CPU and GPU installed, would flashing to the other firmware (some MT6572 one) work? I had a bad time when trying to port another firmware to it, it didn't boot or I just wasn't able to flash it - was getting errors.

Does the mate 10 pro have the double user feature?

The thing that come in stock android that shows an user icon on the top right and and can have multiple phone users with their own apps and user data.
For some reason some brands strip this feature from stock android. Is it present in the mate 10 pro?

It does. You assign a different finger print to it and when you unlock the phone, you get a different layout of your choosing. Is that what you mean?

Hey. Thanks for the reply.
I'm not sure we are talking about the same thing. I mean this:
EDIT: Looks like I can't post links due to being a new member. I hope it's not infringing the forum rules to do this. I mean the stock android feature that show up if you google:
Code:
android set up multiple users on same phone
I THINK it's the same. Can anybody confirm it's the same?

Yeah it is. It's just you have the extra bonus of being able to unlock that other profile with a different fingerprint.
Alright!
Thanks. I'm going to get one of these then. This feature was critical to me.
Here you go. Confirmation.
is it possible to have certain folders "shared" between users?
What is the difference between users created via this GUI and users created via PrivateSpace?
thanks in advance.

Is there a root for the note 8 950U on Pie?

Actually before you were too busy being a smart guy you might have notice that I already commented ON THAT THREAD, so YES... I did actually do a search before posting this message & if you would have read my comment there you would have seen that what I said there was that I didn't understand much of the lingo they were using which by the posters own statement was quite technical which is exactly WHY I started my own thread.
As for the issue with the screenshot, IDK what went wrong, it's on a google drive listed as anyone with the link can see it, but I'm trying to re enter it again now.
Here's a link.
UGHHHHH WTF WHY WON'T THE LINKS WORK?! They work when I past them directly to the browser (yes, even when logged out). Where else can I upload an image to paste a link here (that I can also later delete my image)? This is really annoying.

It is my understanding that with in Pie Samsung patched whatever loophole allowed root to exist on this phone. Therefore, no. There is no root for a Pie Rom. There are ways to root the phone and then install a 7.1 Rom. But that's a far cry from Pie.
