[Q] Turn off Notifications? - HTC EVO 3D

Newbie here, I searched but sorry if this has come up before.
The 3d is my first Android phone - came from Palm Pre minus hell.
How on Earth do you turn off the sound and LED notification of every email / SMS / etc?
I've got the notifications turned off in the Mail app for each of my two accounts, but still get the BLLLIP every frickin' couple minutes.
Thanks!

use volume-down until it's on vibrate
you configure notifications from a given app from the app itself. so when you're in the main scene of an app, hit the menu key & look for Settings>Notifications.

Thanks, but I've already done that. Still get the notifications.

Calendar
I've also noticed that you can't turn on notifications but have vibrate off for the calendar events. I think this is a sense 3.0 thing, as you could do it on the EVO 4G and could do it in some custom sense 2.1 ROMs I ran. Kingdom ROM (sense 3.0) had the same issue. Wish they'd put that back in.

If you're using Gmail under settings there is an option that will only notify you once for unread emails. Once you check your mail and get new messages it'll notify once again for the next new message until you check it.
As for SMS the default app either notifies you on each app or none at all. I checked Go SMS Pro but they don't have an option that only notifies you once like Gmail does.
Edit: I had the Pre minus too, and in Android the main thing is that you use the menu button pretty much the same way in the Pre you hit the upper left corner to get the programs menu.

Thanks
Well, I'm either dumber than usual, or something is wrong.
On the page in Mail settings under "Notifications", "Email Notifications" is un-checked and set to "Off". Still get the frickin' bleep an flashing green LED on every single email.
Not sure what else I can do.

Do you have a gmail or other account. If it's a gmail account when you setup your phone by default your gmail is in the gmail app. If you setup your gmail account in the email app remove it from there and only deal with it in one place which the gmail app is the best place for it.

Aha! I was using an app labeled "Mail" which was on the first page of the home screen (or whatever the proper term is), NOT the "Gmail" app . The Gmail app also has Notification settings. How confusing.
That took care of it. Thanks a bunch!

K-9 Mail not saving settings

Hi!
I'm using K-9 Mail instead of the stock email app on my rooted NookColor and I've noticed that the changes I make in settings are not stored
Anyone here using K-9 Mail too? Do you have the same problem?
Thank you in advance for your feedback.

Folder settings I saw this, but no-where else. It seems to not be reproducible on the latest version on their site, especially if you use the status bar back button, NOT the big text Back button in the dialog.
I logged a bug because I could NOT get it to set folder settings (and stick), and now I can't repro it.
Thank you very much: it has solved my problem
I used K-9 on my Droid for about 6-7 months. I then discovered how to use the Gmail app to have my pop3 emails pushed. Here's a quick writeup I did over on DF about extending battery life. This one paragraph is about the gmail app:
Emails: I don't know what email app you use, but try this. It saves battery power and in some cases emails arrive quicker. This scheme will have you using only the Gmail app on the phone for all email accounts whether they are pop3 accounts or Gmail. Go to the Google Gmail inbox on your computer and log into the Gmail account. On the top right of the screen is an option called Settings. In there is an option to have the Gmail program poll your regular, non-Gmail accounts. Provide the email address and the password. The Google Gmail program will then poll your other accounts on a frequency from 1-5 minutes and push the email immediately to your phone. The polling frequency is determined by each account's activity - more emails = faster polling. It will always be no less frequent than every five minutes. This saves battery power because on the android OS pop3 accounts are polled at a frequency of 1-30 minutes and that really eats battery. Because the phone goes and checks those accounts for mail whether there is mail there or not.
I've been doing the above for 6-7 months now and could not be happier. Good luck.

No thanks, I like K9. And POP3? Welcome to 1990.......
I was having the same problem a couple of days ago with the latest version from the Market. The solution I did was to not use the big back button up top but the little one down below just like you mentioned. The big one wouldn't save settings but the little one did. Weird

Actually not weird; the Back button that the B&N ROM has on the dialogs isn't sending the right intents, as the K9 folks found out.
I logged a bug about this in their tracker and they discovered the difference in the buttons and that the status bar back (from Softkeys) works. Although I still swear it wasn't working for either at first.

[Q] GMail Notifications

Hey! I have a rooted Thunderbolt (Das BAMF Remix 1.6.3, using Imo's 2.7.0 leanKernel), but I have the LauncherPro app and I have my dock display my calls, messages, GMail, as well as a shortcut to the browser.
When I installed this about three weeks ago, my SMS notifications used to work (when I get a notification, a little red notification bubble came up next to my message icon, which was customized, and so are the rest of my dock icons), and then it stopped working - once I installed SMS Go, it started to work again for a bit, and then stopped.
So for two weeks I sort of just accepted that, and then for some odd reason my GMail notifications stopped working... I would get e-mail, and it would say "Inbox (1)" when I click on the GMail icon to open it up, but to see it I would have to refresh and then it would pop up and then if I went to the home screen, the notification bubble would return. These notifications used to be instantaneous; I sent myself a test e-mail and waited for hours, and after doing several test e-mails, I realized sometimes (not all the time though) the application, even after an hour, was not recognizing I got mail until I refreshed.
I tried changing setting to check mail often, made sure on LauncherPro's preferences I set the notifications to be on... I am just unsure why my notifications would stop working (and my GMail is slowly going to crap - I even uninstalled and reinstalled, did not help).
Does anyone have any advice, opinions, or suggestions for this weird problem? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!
Bump - does anyone have any suggestions? I just tried uninstalling and reinstalling GMail again with no success.

Check under accounts to make sure that sync is still on for your Gmail account.

Go into Settings > manage apps > all. Open the Gmail icon. Click on "clear cache " and "clear data ". Ignore the warnings. Return to home page, and open Gmail. It will resync, and your problem should be solved.

I've had gmail bug out on me about three times total dating all the way back to my OG droid. It always happened after flashing a new ROM even with full wipes. My situation was a little different (basically if I "deleted" a email in the gmail app it wouldn't actually delete. It would never resync to my phone but I still would get a x amount of new messages. I would then log into my gmail on the pc and there are all the messages that I had "deleted") I solved this once by just clearing data and cache, but the other two times I had to do a wipe and reinstall. What was interesting though is each time I back upd my current Rom and used that on the restore and bam it was fixed.
Is there any way I can change the frequency of when the GMail app checks mail/forwards them to my phone?
through the gmail app itself no. You could use the "mail" provider on the phone and receive gmail that way. In that program you (i think) can set up the frequency that it syncs. A couple of downsides to this though:
1. unless it has changed since I haven't tried it since the OG droid, it won't delete emails off your web based account only your phone.
2. you would need to delete the gmail app on your phone.

Sense settings

I feel strange asking a stock question here, because I've always come here for rom issues, but I feel like I'm missing something obvious.
I am trying to set my gmail app to display my notifications, which it does, but not play any sounds. I want this happen independently from all my other apps and notifications. I've discovered the sounds tab in personalize, but unlike cyanogenmod that I was running on my incredible, there is no (silent) option. At this point, I've tested changing "Email" sound and it didn't have an impact on what played when I received an email.
...what am I missing with this new version of sense?

In gmail, press the menu key, and press more. Hit settings, and then tap your account. Scroll down to notification settings and click Labels to notify. Then inbox. Then ringtone, and silent should be in there. Hope this helps
... I just added my second gmail account. I'm even more confused now. At this point I have a google account that my phone was set up with and a gmail account that my second account is synced with. It seems that one is set up as a gmail and the original as a google account... Wtf is the difference? And since the gmail account (the second one) isn't seen by the gmail app, but instead by the mail app... What am I supposed to use. Any clarification would be awesome.

In the Mail app, go to more>settings>notification settings. Then turn off email notifications. Then in the gmail app, go into more>settings, and under account settings, click the account you want. If it is not there, add it with the add account button. Then, scroll down to notification settings, and click label notifications>inbox>ringtone>silent
I feel so stupid. Now I remember going through all this when I set it all up before. I think I just thrown for a loop with te option to set up a google account or a gmail account... Where the gmail account used mail app, not the gmail app, but uses a gmail notification icon where the gmail pp uses the stock mail notification icon. I love this phone. I am a die hard HTC fan, but only the hardware. I know ice cream sandwich is going to hit the rezound, but a they going to skin it with sense 4.0? I'd love the option from a manufacturer instead of having to root it and throw ROMs at it.
Thanks again guys for pointing out the obvious. Don't suppose ere is a equally simple way to set the notification icon to the red gmail icon is there?

Not without root. That is trademark to the Mail app. Glad you got your problem fixed

[Q] Disabling GMail app (no root) - Solved

Hey all,
Can't believe I am actually interested in disabling GMail.
But the standard "Mail" app seems to have a nicer UI than the Gmail app. Especially since it has dedicated Gmail settings.
But how do I disable the gmail app (can't be uninstalled...yet)? Obviously without root, and not sure it's worth the trouble to temp root.
It's just that every email received at Gmail gives me two separate notifications...

The best I can think of (without rooting) is turning off notifications for Gmail so you don't get harassed by two alerts.

That's really all you need to do.
I turned off the gmail notification the first day I had the thing for the same reason.

FWIW, the dedicated Gmail settings in the Sense mail app are POP3 settings. In other words, every email will show up on your phone as unread, even if you have read it on another device or the web interface.

Thanks for this. I did disable notifications for the Gmail app, which worked like a charm.
As to the pop3 mail, I did not get an inbox full of unread mail when I set it up.
Perhaps the Sense mail has been improved? I am familiar with what you are describing, but that is not the behavior I am seeing.

This issue happened for me on my Rezound, so we are talking about the same Sense version. When I set it up, I didn't get an inbox full of unread messages either, but every message I got from then on wouldn't get marked in Sense mail as unread unless I viewed it from within that app. So, for example, I could get a new gmail message in the gmail app/sense mail, and view it in the gmail app/web interface, but even after refreshing the sense mail it still shows up as unread. Eventually I had to remove the gmail account in sense mail and set it up manually as an IMAP.
An HTC rep responded to an email of mine and basically told me that manual IMAP was the only way to get around the issue. But kudos to you if everything is working!

[Q] Automatically Remove Notifications?

Might be something simple I'm missing - but is there a way to automatically dismiss email notifications? For example:
I'm using Enhanced Email - Combined inbox. I have a couple email accounts (exchange + gmail). Let's say I get an email in both accounts at the same time. If I tap a notification for gmail, it takes me to the EE combined inbox. I then deal with both messages. The annoying thing is the notification for the exchange email I received stays in the notification bar.
Is there any way to clear those automatically when I check my email instead of having to go to the notification panel and clear them manually?
Open up the stock email app and go to settings. Scroll down shot 2/3 of the way disband make sure that Email Notifications is not checked. Would advise going to through the gmail app and checking the same.

Yea, I tried that too. These notifications all come from EE. The only email app I use is EE, and no matter which notification I open it takes me to EE. Problem is the notification bar doesn't equate opening one account as really taking care of both notifications at once.

Sounds like an issue with the app, email the dev.
