Evo 3d - 4G Speed Tests - HTC EVO 3D

Can anyone who has the phone with 4G coverage post their results? If possible, include an estimate of what your evo 4g was getting before in your area.
Thanks!

Here is a result from inside my house. I am consistently getting between 7-8 Mbs down. I didn't have the EVO or even a 4G phone before, so I don't have any comparisons.
Edit: It won't me post links/pictures yet, so it 7.86 Mbs down and 1.50 Mbs up.

No images taken, but the difference is pretty minimal to me....
My evo required the rtsp proxies to be set to 0.0.0.0 to get full speeds (6-10 mbps in atlanta ga). But the EVO3D seems to be getting the same speeds even though the proxies are still set at the factory ones.

I'm in North Jersey (near NYC)

hope more results are posted today after everyone has a chance to play with their phones

Boston 7679kbps down; 1453kbps up, with the og Evo I remember getting like 6 down and around 1000 up

i got 9700 d/l
and 1000 u/l
nashville, tn

I have no coverage at home and it connects but no bars at work. I haven't been to school where I have full coverage since I got it.
At work where it connects but no bars I get 2-2.5 down, on the Evo I got 1-1.5. Not much changed except the phone.

i try it in a bit when im at best buy here in my house my evo use to get 1 bar of 4g that was good enough for 4-5mb down and 700k up. the 3d wont even pick up 4g in the house.

I don't have 4G in my area yet (Milwaukee, WI) but i want to comment on overall radio performance. Cell & Wifi signal strength is noticibly better then the OG Evo. I have obersed better speeds overall and my Wifi signal is ALOT better. I'm thinking that with a bigger battery, HTC might have increased power to the radios for better performance or they just finally got the hang of the this SOC.

Jacksonville, FL
Here in Jacksonville FL over the past few days:
Downtown (San Marco area) average 8-9 down -- 1 up
Avondale/Riverside: 5.5-9.25 down -- 800-1 up
I got the 5.5 on a good signal but during a peak time I guess at 8pm
Much better then some of the worthless / expensive ISP's here.

Speedtest: Anyone else have the EVO 3D in Los Angeles?

I see some people in other areas posting really high speeds compared to mine here in Culver City -
Using the speed test app, these are my speeds in Culver City
On 3G
Download 262kbps, upload 66kbps, ping 116ms - this was at 10 AM and about the same at 2PM
On 4G
Download 1561kbps, upload 480kbps, ping 116ms
I just tested 3G again at 10 PM
Download 398 kbps, upload 550 kbps, ping 116ms
On 4G
Download 443kbps, upload 53kbps, ping 116ms
In Gardena, I get 5-6Mb down and 1-1.5 up on 4G. Haven't run speedtest on 3G there.
At home in San Pedro, 4G is non existent and 3G isn't much better.

I live In Arcadia, west of Pasadena, outdoors on 4G, I get around 6-8 Mbps routinely. Don't check 3G cause I never use it. Indoors I'm about 2-3 Mbps.
I work in Marina Del Ray (hows that for a commute), the 4G signal is so-so... around 5 Mbps.
Culver sucks as far as signal. on the 10 freeway between the 405 and all the way to USC its pretty weak.

Thanks - that commute sucks - I'm usually heading to Pasadena for work. If I had work in Arcadia, I'd be going to Woodranch for lunch!
I am in fountain valley. I get 4-8 mb at home. It is amazing I get perfect service in one corner and I move it two feet the 4g signal starts crapping out, lol. on 3g I am between .75 - 2.0 mb at home, it just depends on the time of the day.
In Encino i average
3g
Down-1370
Up-694
4g
Down-7679

Ive noticed Northridge and Encino have the best 4g in the San Fernando valley.

I'm right next to you in Sherman Oaks but not getting anything close to those speeds. Did you do anything like reset your data or call Sprint to have them do a reprovisioning?
Got Long Beach on lock here. I average around 800-1300kbps on 3G. On 4G, its more like 3-5mbps.

Where I work in culver city I don't even get 4g. Nor on my commute or at home. If i go a couple blocks from any location I do. My 3g signal is pretty good everywhere if I'm outside. Inside can be ok to horrendous.
Im down here in San Diego and get consistently lower speeds than any that have been posted so for. And there is NO 4G at all.
I called Sprint and they are sending me a free airave in hopes that it will give me a better connection.
I cannot even talk on my phone at my home because the calls get dropped. I had two calls dropped WITH Sprint technical support on Friday.

Maybe Sprint is Upgrading 3g

So I usually check the news in the morning and today (day before the announcement) I noticed that the web pages were loading super fast so I did Speed test and I'm getting crazy 2mbps/d and 1.3mbps/u! I'm usually in the 200kbps/140kbps. I figure that they're testing out beforehand to make sure its running well. What are you guys getting?

287k down, 142k up. Central PA. But if I remember, NYC was @ the same. My 4G in NYC was like 9M down and 3M up? Cannot remember. My phone USUALLY flys as it is on 3G and I never really think about it.
It would be nice, I have never seen 3G speeds on any CDMA network in my area above 500k - including Verizon, I actually see better more consistent speeds with Sprint than VZW.
I have my doubts though, living in the sticks really does have advantages, but stuff like this sucks.
I just did the speed test and on 3g i got 2.34mbps down and .64 mbps up. Those are pretty standard numbers for me. I do have an airave at home so don' know if that is making a difference.

My bad, I did not have my glasses on. 2.8Md/1.4Mu (missed some zeros). All Networks are improving 3G (the currently majority of their base model phones) by using different forms of compression for greater speeds. Oh well..........
I lost 3g data connectivity entirely today. I have full bars like I usually do but can't get any data through.

My data connection is suddenly being very intermittent, too.
I'll try updating my PRL and Profile.... See if that helps at all.
My websurfing is flaky as heck, my Google Talk connection keeps going in and out (and taking a long time to re-login) and I can't seem to update the Android market.
I had just run the "supercharger v6" script, but that shouldn't affect my data connection.... right????
Well let's hope for the best. I'm getting full bars everywhere in Anaheim, CA and speed is constant. I just watched my first youtube video without a single hiccup on 3G

I have also noticed improvements in 3g speed from ohio to texas, been testing at points from columbus to dallas fort worth, have seen 2 meg speeds in fort worth and consistently higher speeds overall.
My guess is with the onset of the IPHONE on sprint, sprint has had to get their 3g act together as the IPHONE does not support LTE or WIMAX it is solely 3g so they cannot afford to continue to piss people off with poor 3g performance. I am now seeing the high speeds I used to see before the smartphones came along with my sanyo mm 9000.

3g in my house is usually ~1mb down / 700kb up or so..
Just did a test - 300kb down / 500kb up. This is in the suburbs of san francisco..
(I think we're feeling the iphone saturation..)
I used to get ~1mbps down but in the least three months I've only been getting 30-150 kbps down and 30 kbps up. Totally unusable.

Sprint 3G performance?

Recently left VZW for SPrint in order to drop my cost and pick up Unlimited data. Both the GF and I went with HTC EVO 4G LTE phones, as we were quite pleased with our HTC Rezounds on VZW.
Her phone is bone stock, mine is unlocked/rooted with S-On, running MeanROM 4.7
Both phones have HORRENDOUS 3G performance. 4G is still only in small pockets in Atlanta, but even down at my office, I am in front of a windo, have 4 or 5 bars on 3G, and I run Speedtest app and my pings range from 500ms-2300ms, my download speeds top at 400kbps, but are usually under 100kbps, and upload is typically around 200kbps...
That's with almost 6 bars of 3G. Been that way for 2 weeks, it almost makes the phone unusable for data. Tried the few mods I could find with my MSL number to bypass Sprint's slow proxy, lowered my LTE threshhold scan time from 30 to 5... Still blows.
Sprint 3G, at least in Atlanta, seems on par with 56k dial-up performance, all kidding aside.
is this normal?
I left VZW thinking that the grass was greener, and I think that I made a huge mistake, and it is after the 14 day return window. VZW was averaging 25mbit up and down, over the entire area, you could get signal almost everywhere in the metro area. And their 3G was at least around 1mbit or so,
Now I am getting almost no 4G, and Sprint's 3G is no faster than dial-up, even when in metro areas with strong signal.
Thoughts?

I get decent 3g in pittsburgh but its really terrible sometimes. If and when i get 4g i wont mind not getting crazy speeds because its unlimited. Thats the sacrifice you make with "The Hopefully Sometime In The Future Network™"
They recently upgraded my area and my service was better before ehrpd
So my suspicions are confirmed, I was an idiot to leave VZW. LOL
I am paying huge ETF's to get out of a high cell phone bill and get Unlimited Data, but the joke is on me, as it is easy to offer Unlimited Data when the network only let's you download at dial-up speeds. A 5mb app takes well over a minute to download, rather than the 1-2 seconds that I am used to...
Sigh....
They're upgrading your area now so what your seeing is the norm until local tower work is done.
Trips and stumbles dude.
So yeah, given the under construction status, it's normal.
Voice signal strength has nothing to do with 3g. Just because u have 6 bars doesn't mean you'll have good data signal.

I sometimes get 1 mb down @ 3 am. Just switch your job to 3rd shift and become a vampire man. It's not that hard. U wanted unlimited data and lower phone bill right? Steal WiFi, lol...

HTC ONE on Tmobile data speeds slow ?

I just got a HTC One on T mobile and waiting to port my number from ATT but the data speeds using speedtest are abysmal less than 500kb and sometimes not even connecting at all. I decided to just test the browser to see if real usage makes a difference not just in the speedtest app and same result web pages taking too long to load and sometimes time out because of slow connection.
I'm in Daly City/San Francisco area, before deciding to switch I did my research and Tmobile coverage shows I should be in "excellent" 4g speeds here where I live.
Before I run back to the store and return it and stay with AT&T , is there something I can do to check the correct APN settings or what else can i do ? I'm disappointed so far, I wanted to try T mobile because of their no contract and cheaper plan but at these data speeds it's just not worth it.
Thanks for any advice / help.
Been seeing great speeds here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2247966
But try out a demo phone in the store and test the speed. It might be the phone, or the tower (temporarily) you're connected to. SF is a market with great speed. I've seen speed tests from ppl around. Definitely better the AT&T's HSPA+ speeds.
last night I posted great speeds, today I'm down to 2g although in a different geographical area.
earlier today I lost all data connectivity, it was something wrong with TMO's system. support had to "hook something up" behind the scenes for me to get it back.
---------- Post added at 11:59 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:36 AM ----------
Update: I noticed that the phone was defaulting to 2g. No matter what, it stayed there.
Using tips from this thread: http://support.t-mobile.com/thread/37862
I went to Settings > Mobile Data > Network Mode and switched it to WCDMA Only.
The data connection re-set and went to 4g.
Repeating the above step, I went back to GSM/WCDMA/LTE Auto, and the phone reset data and got back on 4g.
I think this all had something to do with this morning's outage.
Tmobile tends to have outages sometimes, a few days ago the network in Dallas was down and I was getting horrible speeds. I say that you wait a bit and see if there is any improvement in the next couple of days. Also maybe call in to make sure that your sim is fully activated.
I'll just leave this..

Thinking about making the switch from Sprint (EVO LTE) to T-Mobile and the HTC One. I'm in the Seattle area (Federal Way/Milton) and commute back and forth to downtown Seattle (5th and Pike) every week day. How's the coverage and speed along the I5 corridor? I've looked at the sensorly data and it looks solid, but just really wanting to get a real world feel from a user.
Thanks!

I and my wife recently purchased One's moving from Sprint to T-Mobile. We live in Oakland. Our speeds are similarly slow. Actually, in the week I've had the phone I've rarely had speeds much higher than 400kbs down. Strangely, upload speeds are usually three times faster. This is from inside my apartment where I typically have 2 bars of 4g...three bars every now and then. These speeds are horrible. I called T-Mobile who responded by dispatching an engineer to the tower I use. Within 24 hrs the speeds almost doubled however T-Mobile's feedback was there were no issues. But after a couple of days speeds had declined back to an avg of 350kbs down with upload speeds still 3x download speeds. In my experience, whenever upload speeds are consistently and significantly faster than download speeds and the download speeds are far below what is expected, then either there is a problem with the network or the network is being actively reconfigured.
Assuming I might just be in a "dead" spot due to geography I decided to test speeds in I my neighborhood as I walk my dog. There are no tall buildings or anything I could see to cause much interference. On my street the speed was about the same as inside. About 1/4 mile from my apt the signal was very strong lighting all 5 bars...but speeds only increased slightly. Throughout the area I walked (1/2 circle around my home with radius of 3/4 mile) the signal strength ranged from 2-3 bars fluctuating to 5 solid bars. But there was not much correlation between data download speed and number of bars. In some places 4g speed was as fast as 10Mbs and a bit down the block it could be low as 400Kbs. The speeds were duplicateable...meaning in front of one house speed might be 5Mbs and a speeds in front of a house say 6 houses down the block speed may be 1Mbs. Those speeds would be pretty much the same when I returned later on another walk.
The most surprising discovery is there is a narrow area about 5 houses wide that had LTE. In that small area the speeds were slightly greater than 20Mbs down and 10Mbs up.
The results lead me to believe T-Mobile is actively fumbling with their towers to get LTE quickly, yet attempting to do so as quietly as possible. Due to my disappointment at the painfully slow data speeds I would consider returning the One's firing T-Mobile and moving on. However, the discovery of LTE 1 1/2 blocks from my home AND MAYBE EVEN MORE IMPORTANTLY no real alternative for an "unlimited" data plan that makes financial sense to me (Sprint is nolonger an option since their network is almost unusable)...has me pretty excited as to what my T-Moble experience will be. I hope they aim that LTE antenna in my direction.
@chakathebird:
Wow, I'm in Hayward which is not too far from Oakland and I also switched from Sprint (which is just awful in the Bay Area these days). On Sprint I was lucky to get over 400kbps on 3G and I couldn't even get 4G LTE. (Although 4G WiMax on my old GS2 was fantastic for me). On T-Mobile 4G HSPA I get 8Mbps down / 3 Mbps up on my HTC One and similar speeds on my Nexus 4. With those great speeds I normally just leave LTE turned off on the One, but I did do a speed test with LTE turned on and got 11Mbps down / 6Mbps up.
I work in the South Bay, but sometimes head over the bridge to San Francisco and travel throughout the Bay Area. Everywhere I go I get similarly fantastic speeds on T-Mobile. So if you are getting such slow speeds there is definitely something wrong with either your phone or the tower in your neighborhood. I'd take the phone to other nearby towns and see if you're getting similar bad speeds. If so, I'd have T-Mobile exchange the phone as it may be defective.
I'm in the Northern VA area and there is some LTE. If I'm not driving around and sitting in one place, I can stay on LTE, but driving around, it's bouncing in and out of LTE which just shuts off data all together. So i turned off LTE till they get more towers updated.
On a side note, the radio in the HTC one seems really nice. At my house I can get 13Mb/s down on the HTC but I can only get 6Mb/s down on my data stick sitting beside me. Both connected at HSPA+.
I am not even running on LTE here in NJ and I am still impressed with the speed. It actually comes pretty close to my friend's GS3 on Verizon with LTE.

T-Mobile 4G LTE in Boston - finally!!!

I apologize if this is a duplicate...only did a cursory seacrh, not a deep one. It wasn't there yesterday (or at least, I didn't notice because I was stuck in meetings all day), but today I noticed the "4G LTE" icon on my One. Am very excited! Only getting 2 bars now, so I'll hold off on a speed test. Still...I'm happy to see this.
Anyone else in the Boston area just notice this?
I'm getting 2G / Nothing in my house in Waltham.. which is why I rely on wifi calling.. which is why i'm not using 4.2.2
good to know we're getting close though.

It's interesting. I take a train from the northshore into Boston so I can see some areas have it and some don't. Where I live in Beverly does not. Salem, no, parts of Lynn, yes, part of Chelsea, yes. North Station: didn't notice as I was getting on a shuttle to work. Close to my work near south station, yes.

I work in downtown (in City Hall Plaza) however I keep my phone on WCDMA to lock into HSPA. However, after reading this I decided to switch back to Auto mode to see what kind of signal I would pick up. I live in Hyde Park. I just ran out to my local Shaws and picked up LTE! I did 3 speedtest and was able to pull down 10 megs and up 9 megs per sec. Very exciting. I'm simply looking forward to a more stable network with robust speeds. Locked in to WCDMA and I can down between 5-9 megs and up 3 megs in Quincy, Brockton. I'll be keeping my phone on Auto more often now. Personally, I find the network as a whole to be a mixed back. On average when my phone is locked to WCDMA, I'm averaging 2-3 megs down and 1 meg up. HD videos load just fine on YouTube...

I stand corrected: I get about 2 bars of 4G LTE here at home. Now, I only had two bars (didn't do a more exact, rigorous check. Hey, it's Saturday morning) of LTE, at most, during the speedtest, and it dropped down to one for have of the duration. Still, the results were promising even with the diminished throughput: about 10 down and 6.5 up. Not bad for a couple of bars! The trick is what's going to happen when everyone else figures it out.

I share the same concern, however I really just want a solid network with great coverage and solid speeds. I haven't had any real issues with T Mobile's network and since my HD2 days my experience has been good. I find their HSPA and plus network to be pretty good, I just wish I had better coverage throughout Mass. Every now and then a YouTube video (always in HD) will take around 10 seconds to load but for the majority of my experience, hiccups and stutters are far in between.
So, looking forward to this LTE network. Although it may not be the fastest, if I can have speeds consistently in the 5 meg range, I would be very happy. I am so sick and tired of my phone and my wife's GS4 on 2g from time to time which is why I keep mine locked in WCDMA mode.

Traveling through Boston to get to downtown... My route included parts of Hyde Park and Dorchester. I'm currently in my office which is on the 16th floor inside of City Hall Plaza and I'm picking up between 1 and 2 bars of LTE. A quick Speed Test (3 total) and my results are sporadic. My best score was 13/down and 11/up.
Excited to see a real effort on behalf of T Mobile.
I'm in downtown Boston at 60 State Street, and in my office on the 4th floor I'm getting an occasional 1 bar of 4G LTE but then it goes back to just 4G before I can test it out. That's unfortunate because their 4G in my office is painfully slow. (Unlike at home in Waltham where it's very, very fast.)
I'll see if I get a more reliable LTE signal when I head out to lunch later. Here's hoping they beef it up soon so I can start using it at work regularly!
Holy crapnuts! Speed!

Wow. NOW we're playing with some power. Stayed at home today and attended a meeting remotely. Grabbed lunch in downtown Beverly and grabbed these results. Very pleased. 27.7 down and 9.9 up...not too shabby!
Latest lte speed test from the greater boston area
Boom goes the dynamite.
i am in Everett, MA and get LTE according to my Galaxy S4 at least. According to the Tmobile data coverage map i am right on the border between excellent(best possible) and very strong(2nd best). Have tested my speeds quite a few times over the last 3 weeks and consistently my down is slower than my up, just tested again and get 10 down and 12 up according to ookla speedtest and about half of that (but still up being faster than down) with opensignal app(although i wouldn't trust tests with opensignal app since it reports my home wifi being 11/8 while ookla correctly shows 85/24) . My friend with Galaxy S3 swears he got almost 50 down while walking in downtown Boston once on LTE about a week ago, hope those speeds come to my neck of the woods @ some point. Any phone optimisation tricks to make LTE/4G bit faster? Would like to justify paying extra $20 for unlimited 4G/LTE data(and if i got over 25/x on average on it i would def. add unlimited option)

I don't know how much this will help you but there is a thread (can't find it right now, on my phone) that shows how to change your APN from the default settings to creating a new one that has less traffic epc.tmobile.com
Since I've changed this setting I've experienced greater LTE AND HSPA+, consistently. I too live in Boston and was actually in the Everett area yesterday and had excellent service down there.
If you need extra help, let me know

thank you for this info. My default APN is indeed fast.x. I changed to epc.x according to these instructions by creating new APN set so can always switch between fast.x and epc.x and here are the preliminary results:
Tested with ookla app right before change and average out of 3 was 10/11 (Down/Up)
Right after the change(no reboot) and switch to epc.x APN set average 10/11 (exactly the same)
After restart and verifying thats still on new epc APN set - ookla has reported 17/10 (on the right track?? highest down before i ever got was 12)
Switched to back fast.x APN set and ookla reported 18/10 (WTF???)
Restart again and on both epc and fast ookla reported 6/8(even worse than before)
everything was done within 10 min window. Could i be too far from nearest LTE tower? Network Signal app shows the signal as LTE(on both fast.x and epc.x) and dBm of -93(although also shows 3/4 signal bars). Open Signal app shows LTE and dBm -75 and while better than NS app still quite bad. According to Open Signal cell tower map i am less than 1 block away from a nearest cell tower though and about 1.5 blocks away from another tower exactly on the other side.
4G LTE - Saint Louis, Mo
FINALLY!!!! As we were traveling from St. Charles County to Shilo, Il ... Noticed my HTC One finally showed 4G LTE.... I noticed the 4G LTE symbol after we passed the Lambert. Then got really geeked-up and did a speed-test...

The improvement seem to have spanned out to "push-out" the 2G speeds I was getting in Fairview heights, IL... Really Excited about this.... Now All's t-mob needs to do is build a dedicated connection alone major highway networks.
4G LTE... YEAH! Next test is Wentzville and Lake Saint Louis area
I work in Lynn, and I've been getting 11-12mb down on average for the last few days. Today I felt like my connection was a little slow, do I ran speed test and get this- 4.2 down/9.6 up! Wut?

Well, let us not forget that T-Mobile is still in "Roll out" phase when it comes to LTE. During this phase, we can't expect that the overall experience will always be the best. There will be time where depending on the towers upgrade status, network congestion, utilization and more you will experience slower speeds.
I say, don't judge the network because of one day of sub-par performance, give it some time, and you will notice the improvements.

Spoken like a true T-Mobile employee, lol... No, I just thought it was weird. I'd never seen higher upload speeds than download before.
