[Q] Bootanimastion.zip and Cognition S2 - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

This is my first post and i apologise in advance for the following, but, after hours of searching here and in other forums i have been unable to add a custom boot animation file to the above.
So, does anyone here know how/ where i place the bootanimation.zip file to customise an already excellent ROM?
If designgear reads this he can perhaps explain if such a thing is possible or whether feature will be added in future releases.

System/Media .

Tried that. Also removed existing bootanimation files but that just resulted in a black screen. From elsewhere also tried /data/local and one other location but no joy. Have you managed to run a bootanimation.zip from the system/media location on this rom?

[Q] How to set own bootanimation.zip on 2.2??

Okay, let's go straight..I've been flashed two ROMs from eugene's Macnut R12 and Team Whiskeys' Obsidian V3, which are both roms competible to change bootanimation.zip. So, i found the .zip that i want and just place it under the /system/media/bootanimation.zip and reboot.
Not work and instead of Not shown any log, it boot into Stock Android.
Please...Can anyone help me to solve it, i just want to change a bootanimation into something i like??
i cant find bootanimation.zip inside media.i can see bootani.qwg file. how to replace it??
Might seem like a simple question but did you take out the original bootanimation.zip before you put the new one in? Also you have to set the permissions correctly. Try again and pull original out and put on sdcard. Put new one in and check permissions. Then reboot. I've done this many times, so not sure why it didn't work for you.
If you don't see bootanimation.zip in /system/media but rather a bunch of bootani.qwg files, your kernel doesn't support it. I know the Bali kernals do, as most Voodoo injected ones do too.

[Q] Replacing boot animation

I've tried following instructions for replacing the boot animation that say to go to system\media and replace bootanimation.zip. This doesn't seem to do anything. First, I don't have a bootanimation.zip file in that directory, just qmg files. And when I put bootanimation.zip in that file it has no effect.
Is there something I'm missing? I'm rooted, running the stock rom.

I believe you need a kernel which supports custom bootanimations. Try ChainFire's kernels on XDA.

Questions = Q&A
Bootanimation stock is QMG
To add a custom boot animation you require a kernel that supports it .
You would be far better off reading the FAQS and Guides before attempting to do stuff that may brick your phone and leave you with no warranty .

meh, not worth the trouble to replace the kernel. It's strange that the four tutorials I looked at that detail how to install a custom boot animation never even mention needing anything other than root access. No mention of kernels or custom roms, etc.
Did anybody ever figure out the qmg format? I saw a couple threads on it, but they're from 2010 and never seem to get beyond decoding the file header.
No free editor found for QMG files .Though at least one modified QMG posted on XDA .

[Q] Boot Animation / Boot splash Screen i9300

Hi All,
Noob @ all things ROM
I did full root etc and started using ROMS.
I have used those which allow custom boot animation.
However after 2 days of trawling google and trying to move bootanimation.zip still no luck on restart.
The only related files are the 2 .qmg files bootsamsung and bootsamsungloop in system/media
As well as bootanimation.zip in system/bin.
Can someone point me in the direction of which files or combination to change it please?
Is change of Splash possible?
Running latest Dragon ROM.
Thanks in Advance.
Yes boot animation thread in Themes and apps section .
Splash screen can be modified you will need to search how .
As well as bootanimation.zip in system/bin. >>>> WHY never been placed there before .
Boot animation zips require a kernel that supports boot-animation zip .

[Solved] Galaxy S3 Boot Animation; No animation, how to fix?

Solution found see here

Hello all,
So I've been searching for a way to change the boot animation on my S3, all I was able to find were ~year old or older tutorials...
(Currently have version 4.4.2, model i747M)
Now I've got no boot animation at all, (sound is still there), and I'm just looking to get it back. (Or if possible a custom one but I'll settle for anything at this point.)
I used the following tutorial to try and change it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2063280
I believe, (based off the files used in the tutorial), that the problem may be in/with the following:
/system/bin/bootanimation (exe)
or
/system/bin/samsungani (exe)
or
/system/bin/sh (text file)
Any help would be amazing.

These have NOT worked for me, but hopefully anyone else experiencing this problem could benefit from them:

Hello there, @JamPro,
To restore your boot animation, check out the tutorial here.
Hey @thenookieforlife3,
I've already tried this, (and just tried it again), and sadly it didn't work.
I believe the problem may be with/in:
/system/bin/bootanimation (exe)
or
/system/bin/samsungani (exe)
or
/system/bin/sh (text file)
They were altered/used with the original tutorial that I tried.
Thank you very much for trying though
Do you have a custom rom or just rooted stock? Samsung uses qmg files for the stock and custom ones are in zip format typically.

I just have rooted stock. The tutorial I used uses .zip's, but, I think, it might have been a work around instead of using .qmg files.
Either way, I have my original bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsumgloop.qmg files, but it won't display the stock animation...
I've added some potential fixes in my original post. None of them worked for me, but anyone looking for a potential fix should give them a look.

Changing bootanimation

here is a thread in the Universal S6 Edge that has some bootanis but after following the instructions it's still not working for me.
Went into System/media and replaced the qmg files as per OP's instructions. However, I'm still getting the stock Samsung bootani. I noticed that in system/media there are lots of other QMG files with the term "boot" in them. I'm guessing one of these files has to be deleted or changed. Anyone have any thoughts?
Not a single person knows anything about this?
