[Q] Internal Storage - HTC EVO 3D

HTC.com says that the Evo 3D has 4GB internal rom. My phone, however, shows .95GB free, 199MB used presently. Did I misunderstand? Is 3GB of that 4GB stated reserved for filesystem, rom/kernel, all that? And 1GB is the available application space?
Thanks!

It has 4GB ROM but only 1GB or RAM.

Oh I understand the 1GB of RAM. I mean space for applications..."Internal Storage" under SD & phone storage reads 0.95GB

I thought this phone was suppose to have 4GB of internal storage. Mine shows 1.05GB available. How were you able to see that you have 199mb used?

The phone has 4gb of internal storage but much of that is allocated to Android and the associated apps. There is ~ 1.1gig of space allocated to the partition where you can install applications.

Thanks, that's what I was looking for.
I believe I found the 199 available under the option to clear up space, on the first or second screen after clearing cache.

Internal Memory

I'm just wondering how much internal memory do you guys have left? I have the T-Mob 1024mb but after WinMo, Android, and some apps, all I'm left with is about 75mb. Does that sound about right to you guys?
How do you guys with the 512mb version manage to run both winmo and Android?? I'm using Energy Titanium, which is very light and small already. I'm surprised Android and my apps take up so much.
android runs off the sd card not the internal memory
there is a total of 576MB of ram on the phone plus a 1GB ROM plus a 16GB storage card. You should install apps to the storage card instead of the phone to save space.

When I go into Settings>SD & Phone storage> Under Internal phone storage, it lists 82.47MB, this number changes as I delete and installs apps.

How do you install apps to the sd card? When I download an app from market, it just automatically installs and I'm given a choice to choose either the internal phone storage or sd card.
tap on SD card as that is your external storage and then proceede with the installation

[Q] Memory..

Hi all
About the phone memory.. (not SDcard memory)
I think it has 170 MB user available of the total 512 MB RAM, is this correct?
The 170MB user available are for apps and android OS storage?
Can this be more balanced so I can install more apps ?
If so, what can happen if the 342MB left, became only 312 if the 170M are raised to 200M.
Where are this 170MB mounted? (if they are mounted)
Is the memory partitioned like an disk is?
Thanks

The 170MB you're reading about is flash memory available for the user (even without SD card).
It has nothing to do with the 512MB RAM in the phone.
So I have 3 completely separate kinds of memory
The 170M of user memory (for apps and OS instalations?)
The 512M of RAM (used like PC RAM?)
And SD card
Is this correct?
If so, I think there is no way to increase the 170M since it's a separate memory.. correct?

Please explain to a newbie the memory/storage

I understand on a PC memory is for active stuff and storage is for keeping things you need but can pull into memory for actual use.
If I go to task manager on this phone, it says total memory 803MB, used 588 - free 215MB.
Then it shows all applications 26MB
How do I see how much of my storage is in use? Is that 26MB of whatever sized storage card came with this phone?
ROM vs. RAM?
Thanks
That's showing your RAM, to see how much storage space your phone has left go to Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Storage use
Thanks - it says 8GB 5.5GB available. Internal storage .93GB.
Ever since these tablets and phones came out "memory" seems to be the generic term for just about everything in the device - RAM, ROM, NAND, EMMC, SD...
This is actually not different from a pc so why is the term memory used so freely? Traditionally RAM was/is considered memory. In the phone NAND is the ROM or flash memory. emmc is the internal storage. Sd is the external storage. But they're all called memory, even in spec sheets. Technically I suppose they are all memory, but why not address them with differing terms?
At one time they'd list it as 512 RAM/512ROM or flash rom. And storage would be called storage or sd card. It would save a lot of confusion and arguments that I've seen where two people are correct in what they've said, just incorrect in answering the question asked.

Yup the SD card has the green hornet in it, and the internal memory is like a 1GB free when you get the phone
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d

Missing 1.5GB of Internal Storage

My sister's I9100M came with stock Bell/Virgin GB so this morning I flashed it with Resurrection Remix v2.6.1 and I seem to be missing roughly 1.5GB of internal storage space. Is there a way to get it? When I mount the phone in the computer, there's two partitions on the phone, but the 2nd partition cannot be accessed and says there's 0 bytes of space on it. The ROM itself has a 2GB partition, and the internal storage is given 11.5GB, so there's another 1.5GB or so missing.

That is normal. I have the same model and same rom and I'm getting the same internal storage space. I would advise just picking up an external sd card if space in an issue. I picked up a 16gig for 15 bucks at bestbuy/future shop. I believe Ice Cream Sandwich just simply takes up more space than Gingerbread with its system files and such. Anyways, to sum up...
1. Yes it's normal.
2. Go buy an external sd. Very affordable.
Is there a way to fix it? Would flashing official ICS + pit fix this?

There is no "fix", as it's not missing. It's reserved and used by the system.

Isn't the 2GB that I mentioned reserved for the system? On my i896, 2GB for ROM/System + 13GB internal storage makes up to roughly 16GB.

No. The 2gb partition should be for apps, the 11.5gb for user files (music, pictures, videos, etc). The remaining is for system use.

[Q] Lenovo Ideapad 2107a-h storage issues

Ok, so I just received a new Lenovo Ideapad a2107a-h from ATT. This is supposed to be a 16GB tablet. When you go into storage under settings, it says that I have 503 MB of intenal storage and then 12.99 GB of internal memory. It gives me an option to default install apps to internal memory, but it goes right to the internal storage of 503 MB. Even when I move some apps, there is a few mb's that get left behind. Once I fill up that internal storage of 503 MB, it tells me I am out of space, yet I stilll have 12GB of internal memory. ATT swapped out my tablet, it has the same issue. Lenovo says they have never heard of this befoer and I should just have 12.99 GB (16GB) of storage, period. Anyone know why this would be like this? Also, when you go to apps, it shows the 12.99 GB as SD storage?
