dint really work with me, it rescale itself...

I use picsin and that gets me the closest. However remember that it may not be perfect due to the wallpaper size scrolling to each side.

About Wallpapers...

Ok I been up and down these and other forums for a few days. I registered here a while back but never posted because I had no problems... But I searched... came close but no cigar. I downloaded Numerous wallpaper apps and played around with different ratios, But no matter what I do I always find myself forced to crop the background (if it doesn't crop it zooms the hell out of the picture). I'm I missing something I'm on a completely stock rooted 2.2... I'm at my wits end with this, so close to just saying screw it and finding a decent LWP... anyone care to lend a helping hand?
Edit* Most of the stuff I find applies to portrait mode.. I use Landscape mode 99% of the time
in landscape the resolution should be 960x480
in portrait 960x800
Umm...no.
Wallpaper images, regardless of orientation need to be 960x800 in order to maintain the sharpest image possible. See my post here.
The attached file is a grid 960x800, which is the recommended size for a wallpaper in android. That is 2 times the width by the height of the phone screen.
Make this the wallpaper on your phone and test it out. you should be able to use the entire image as your wallpaper. Make sure you have auto-rotate on and that your home app is scrolling the wallpaper. If you use a home app that allows you to change the number of homescreens you will see that how much of the image is scrolled changes with the number of screens.
If you use auto-rotation you will be able to see exactly what part of an image can be seen with the phone in each orientation. This is the problem when creating wallpapers, particularly ones with content (kids, a car, etc.) that you want visible in either orientation.
I keep so many icons on my homescreens that mot of the wallpaper is covered so I use a simple wallpaper. If you want the wallpaper to be more visible and make a statement about you or your phone you have to consider many factors. The release version of the Streak with Android 1.6 was customized to allow a different wallpaper on each screen, to get that effect now you have to use an app.
MultiPicture Wallpaper
StreakSet Wallper app
WallStreak - it's buried in the thread
960x800 wallpaper gallery
So - there is no simple answer. Let us know what ends up working for you.
Edit: I like to edit my wallpaper images on my PC making sure that the image is a multiple of 960x800 (to preserve the aspect ratio) and the resize to 960x480 before copying to the phone. The gallery app will allow you to select an entire 960x800 image.
Edit2: Your home app may handle the wallpaper differently than stock or other phone apps, so test on your specific setup.
Marvin... that grid line you provided seems to be helping ALOT. It fits landscape without a problem now I can plot exact grid points... I'll do a quick run to see how it looks. If I am content I will post results but if not I will get some rest. its 2:30 lol... but thanks alot, all of you.
Def. happy with how this came out, that image wasn't the proper dimensions so I edited it (not by much) now all I have to do is line it up on a fresh canvas and boom... thanks again. def solved my problems

Glad the info helped. If you have a 960x800 version of that wallpaper allpaper attach it to a post and I will add it to the wallpaper gallery I keep.
yes i meant that in landscape only 960x480 is shown but the wallpaper is 960x800

Wallpaper sizing issues...

To get an image to fit perfectly, it needs to be 1600 pixels wide and 1280 pixels high.
This is exactly the same aspect ratio as the wallpaper crop/selection tool, so nothing of the image is lost.
But, obviously, not all of the wallpaper is shown on the screen, so to make sure you get the part you want, it would need to fit the following template:
The red area is the centre screen when holding the tablet in landscape mode, the area with the translucent blue overlay is the centre screen when holding it in portrait and the green area just represents the size the image has to be - obviously, as you swipe between screens, some of the green area will become visible.
You can test it yourself by clicking on the image, going to my dA page and downloading the full 1600x1280 version and putting it on your Tab.
The only issue I encountered with it is if you're using ADW EX, you only have a single homescreen and wallpaper scrolling is enabled, it doesn't line up on the red area like you would expect it to, it shifts to the side.
But if you switch wallpaper scrolling off, then it snaps to the red area properly (and lets face it, if you're only using a single screen, it's not like you need it to scroll...).
Now, I have read elsewhere that the reason a lot of Honeycomb wallpapers are 1920 wide is so that they still look good when the Tab is connected to an HDMI out.
I'm not so sure that's been thought-through but if you're worried about it, then you scale it up from 1600x1280 to 1920x1536 and that should be the correct aspect ratio to fit the wallpaper selection tool exactly (NB - I haven't checked this myself though) - just bear in mind that if you did that, the read and blue boxes would then cover areas of 1536x960 and 960x1536 respectively.
Hope that helps.
edit: looking at it again, I just realised it's exactly the same as for Android phones.
Taking the screen res in portrait, your image needs to be the height of the screen and twice the width.
edit #2: if you want to be able to size your wallpapers correctly without having fit it into the template above, see below...
There are two apps that might be of some use to you.
I'm not recommending them, I don't as of the time of writing use either myself but it's worth being aware of your options.
Firstly, Wallpaper Wizardrii, which allows you to set a 1280x800px image as your wallpaper and have it fit the screen perfectly by disabling wallpaper scrolling.
Secondly, Multi-Picture Live Wallpaper, which allows you to set different images as your wallpaper on each screen of your homescreen.
Many thanks for this
Thanks Step666,
This does mirror what I see in ADW. However, when I i simply use wizardrii without ADW the wallpaper image appears to be center-justified in both portait and landscape.
In ADW the wallpaper appears to be top-justified. If your wallpaper has a center of focus, that center is different in Portrait and landscape - this is a source of frustration for me. ADW is currently uninstalled and not usable for me right now.
My primary use-mode is landscape, so I suppose I can re-size the image as you note above, and then simple deal with the odd offset the rare times I am in portrait mode.
Thanks Step, I'll give this a try when I get home...

It all depends on your needs of course, I wasn't taken with the wizardrii app, it seemed very clunky and I don't like the idea of having to have something running all the time just to get my wallpaper right.
But then again, I have wallpaper scrolling switched off and ADW locked into horizontal, so it's a lot easier for me to sort out a wallpaper manually.
Thanks very much Step666.
I have a question here regarding the default wallpaper's aspect ratio... wondering how it works... as it's not able to fit into the template above, and not compatible with the aspect ratio of the Tab display either... will some of the default wallpaper will be cropped off especially when holding the Tab in portrait? Thanks.
I don't know what size Samsung's stock wallpapers are but assuming they're 1920x1408 like the I/O stock wallpapers, that means they're shorter than they should be, so when you select/crop the wallpaper, it'll be too wide, so you'll lose something from the left and/or right edges.
But obviously, as I said before, even within the selected area, you will only ever see a small portion (slightly under 50% once the status-bar covers some of it.) on the screen at any one time.

Yes, the GT-7510 Tab released in China is equipped TouchWiz 4.0 by default.
Apologies for taking so long to get back to you, here are some screenshots from my Tab...
The first two show me sizing up the template which fits exactly and the third one is the wallpaper I use - it's got the same green background, that's how sure I am that the dimensions I quoted are right (NB I don't ever see the green part because I have my homescreen set to landscape and wallpaper scrolling disabled).

Thank you, Step666. I just don't understand why the app leaves margins...
I'm using ADW over the top over Touchwiz with just a single homescreen and I've had a very difficult time getting the wallpapers to look any decent even with Wallpaper Wizardrii.
I've been doing some mucking around with both Wallpaper Wizardrii and the Touchwiz wallpaper chooser and seem to have come up with a method that gets the wallpaper in the right spot.
I open my chosen wallpaper in Wallpaper Wizardrii and set it as the wallpaper using the 'exact' setting. This adds big useful margins around the image. I then open Root Explorer and browse to the WallpaperWizardrii folder on the SD Card (I use Root Explorer because Gallery doesn't seem to refresh the images properly, even when using SDRescan). I then select the current_wallpaper.jpg and open it in gallery. From there I can set this image as the wallpaper using the Touchwiz wallpaper cooser and I can use the big new margins to hang the wallpaper selection box over so I'm getting all my image onto the screen.
Below is how I crop the image in the Touchwiz wallpaper chooser to get it to fit properly in landscape.
Hope this helps some!
its works, however the wallpaper will become "zoomed in" again after a restart of the device... but works again once u start the wizardrii app..
and doesnt work again once u turn your screen to Portrait on homescreen..
I noticed this also, where it looked to crop the right third of the image off.
funnily enough, when I then chose an unrelated image and set that as a wallpaper, it still has 1/3 of the image missing.
Must be a bug somewhere down the line...
If I could find another app that would allow me to add the margins onto an image, removing Wallpaper Wizardrii might stop it from happening?
hey bro an update that wizardrii app doesnt work after a reboot. when it reboots, it only shows 3/4 from left to right. On the right there is a big black block where the wall paper should be. And yes I set it up unscrollable etc.

''setting wallpaper'' issue solved alternatively

Hi guys,
I guess everyone is having problem, setting their favourite wallpapers on honeycomb. Because whenever we try to set wallpaper, it asks for cropping and after applying cropped wallpaper becomes blurred [like it zommed in the wallpaper]......
some people said to use wallpaper wizardrii app but honestly it didnt help me at all....it still crops the picture and sometimes make it blurred.
so my solution to set desired wallpaper without cropping is very very simple but as i said this is just an alternative not the perfect solution.
just download live wallpaper called ''WATERIZE LIVE WALLPAPER '' , install it and then open it. By default it will have stones background. Go to settings and choose custom background of yourchoice. Apply it. Thats it. Now you have wallpaper of your choice without cropping. Its so easy and plus it adds the effect of water ripples on your wallpaper which looks so cool. Try out.
this is my alternative way to set background without cropping but little sacrifice is its live wallpaper but i would really love to use this until google solve this issue on honeycomb.
i have provided the link for download.
if anyone likes this then please comment
And i see, you must use the full version to get the option custom image.

What is the exact wallpaper size if using wallpaper for tablet? 1280 x 800 ?
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda premium
The problem is that using these programs you apply a live wallpaper like a static wallepaper ...... and that this decreases the speed of toucwiz.
I think 1920x1408 resolution is best for our honeycomb tablets. But this multi live wallpaper software make the images fit to screen so u dont need to worry. Otherwise for perfect size try the above resolution....i will upload some wallpaper collection when i m free.
---------- Post added at 01:27 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:17 AM ----------
thanks to refer me this amazing software. I installed it long ago but at that time i was new to honeycomb so didnt notice the setting menu of multi live wallpaper but now i installed again and looked into the setttings and when i applied. ...i found that this software is ****in awesome. I love the way it has difffernt wallpaers on each screen and specially the screen transition effect is glorious.
One question though, being a live wallpaper and changing wallpaper on time intervals itself, do u think it will consume more ram and subsequently battery?
I wish it just use battery like a static wallpaper.
Another app that I used previously (although it was on my phone and not on my tablet) was "Wallpaper Set and Save".
Wallpaperwizadrrii and multipicture all compress the picture and degrade the quality.
I have yet to see a solution that maintains quality AND doesnt crop.

That's incorrect.
As I said in another thread, when using a stock Honeycomb ROM and/or ADW the standard rules of Android wallpaper sizing apply.
You take the screen resolution in portrait and double the width and that's the size the wallpaper should be to fit perfectly. Obviously you can scale up or down from there if you really want to but the ratio will stay the same.
There is a question-mark as to whether TouchWiz changes the way wallpapers are selected/size but since I really don't like TouchWiz, I haven't investigated.

Tired of Gallery app cropping or messing up your beautiful wallpaper? if so Read this

actually you aren't stuck with this method. I have figured out a way to apply wallpapers like they're supposed to be with no loss in quality. applying through gallery or quick menu forces you to crop the picture resulting in the images you posted. check out my method.
go to marketplace and get a free app called picSpeed wallpapers. install it. it has high res. wallpapers and has its own proper way of applying wall papers. but any how go to the stock prime gallery app and choose your pic you want to apply as the wallpaper. press set as. then choose wallpaper. now, since you installed that app I mentioned, a pop up menu will show asking you which method do you want to use to apply the wallpaper. choose PicSpeed method. now it will allow you to apply the whole image without being forced to crop, having loss of quality, or looking zoomed up like crazy. Enjoy. as this method has been proven. also, only apply wallpaper through gallery app. don't do it through the quick menu where all the Widgets are at. if you do, then you will be forced to apply the wallpaper the gallery/stock method.

your best bet is to uninstall then install again. As youbcan see from poster above and me, it still works great in ICS. that's the only option I ever choose to apply my wallpapers now.
another tip also, which might be Also you're experiencing is this: if you get a wallpaper and apply it the way I said and the wallpaper is bigger than the middle box, use the one to the right instead. its custom and will stillbspply the whole image in its native quality. If the wallpaper is bigger then the middle box and you apply it like that, it will be zoomed up. If wallpaper fits box exactly, use middle one. If its larger, use the one to the right, the custom rectangle one. then hit set. works perfectly for me on ICS. try that
Does not seem to work for me as well.
For one I can only find the picspeed HD version (don't know if that matters at all).
any how go to the stock prime gallery app and choose your pic you want to apply as the wallpaper. press set as. then choose wallpaper. now, since you installed that app I mentioned, a pop up menu will show asking you which method do you want to use to apply the wallpaper. choose PicSpeed method.
From this point I have no option to select PicSpeed - only 2 other options.
Running ICS...
Quit working in ICS for me as well. I used it on HC, and know it worked then. Following the same procedures, its still zooming in. Wiped data, still no go... too bad. Drives me nuts when it is zoomed in.

thing is more than likely after you choose pic speed option to apply, your wallpaper is bigger than the middle option that's default. to the right of it is another mode, custom, that will apply the whole image. Basically if you try to apply wallpaper thru picspeed option, the middle one should cover the whole pic. if it doesn't, and pic is larger than square with arrows, then choose the next one to the right that looks like a rectangle. that will cover the whole picture then press apply. it still working fine for me.

[Q] Split Screen Wallpaper

Hi, I'm trying to create a multi-screen wallpaper setup like in this build (http://mycolorscreen.com/2014/07/29/iren/) but how does one shrink their desired wallpaper to fill just half the screen? I tried bitmap but the scaling makes it difficult and blurry.

I was going to simply cover the bottom half the wallpaper with a RECT overlay but it seems like the previous theme and this other one (http://mycolorscreen.com/2014/08/23/sportlife/) have a found way to shrink the wallpaper without losing detail or focus. When I tried inserting the wallpaper into a widget, it came out blurry cause I have to stretch it in order to fill the entire widget by increasing the scale (increased scale = blurry). Unless there's another way aside from bitmap or photoshop, I guess this is it then.
I didnt mean to use the wallpaper in the widget. You should cover the bottom half with a widget and set the wallpaper as usual.

Yea, I did that but that leaves me losing the bottom half of the wallpaper. I thought the two themes I looked at had a way of 'shrinking' the wallpaper to fit in the top half without losing detail. The method you suggested (if I'm reading it correctly) is to cover the bottom half with my widget (RECT + icons) and then set the wallpaper to auto-fit the top half. But the wallpaper still fills the entire screen. Maybe I'm misunderstanding something.

Hi,
There are two main ways of doing this. First is to use Zooper, and add the images as a bitmap. However if you said this makes the images blurry, Photoshop (or any other image editor) should do the trick. Simply take a screenshot of your homescreen, open that in Photoshop, then drag the wallpaper on where you want it to go.
Hope this helps!

Simply take a screenshot of your homescreen, open that in Photoshop, then drag the wallpaper on where you want it to go.
Hope this helps!

Thank you! I just wanted confirmation on the bitmap scaling.
