[Q] Lg optimus T p509 booting to recovery blocked (or is it just stubborn?)? - Optimus One, P500, V General

I've tried every possible way to get this phone to boot to recovery it just does not.
Even tried volume down instead of up all it does is erase my information.
However, a friend of mine own a lg optimus t p500 and boots to recovery with no issue.
I've also tried booting via apps from market.
I am rooted and running stock rom not sure if its updated I've owned it for only a few months and bought it used for 50 bucks.
If you guys have a conclusion let me know I'd really like a nice fast custom rom..
I've searched google and no answers for my stubborn phone.

Hmmm... At the risk of stating the obvious: have you flashed a custom recovery? Because the stock one does exactly what you have described.

I may be misreading your question but I never flashed anything to the phone, somehow it doesn't allow it
But, now all it does is force close and crash including messaging apps the stock messaging app and handcent is the os like corrupt or something? My friend seems to think so.

LOL. Without flashing a custom recovery, you cannot boot to it! The stock one just does a factory reset and nothing else.

Ok, your new so I will go easy.
First thing you need to do is use the search button and figure out how to install clockwork recovery for your model of phone. Start there.

Girlfriends Fascinate just decided to randomly stop doing anything except showing lights on soft keys after rooting and lag fix. Decided if I've got to restore should try this. First flash I got stuck at a similar issue after VZW logo. Wiped data and cache and was able to boot but entered in to FC hell. Working on flashing back to stock Odin posted in other thread as we speak.
Update: realized I had only wiped data and not cache as well. after doing that was able to flash back to stock, trying this once more.
Update 2: No go, still FCing like crazy. Flashing back to stock.

I had the same issue. Install stock and then Angels. Wipe cache only and it should work. If you cant activate Google do a reset in settings and all is fine.
I'm sorry, but that's exactly what I experienced rooting and running the lag fix on a Vibrant. There is something flawed with the lag fix. I don't know what it is, but this is the 4th experience I've read about that's the exact same as mine.
Could Samsung change the file system with an OTA update? Is that even possible?

[Q] LG Optimus V problem flashing to stock

So my Optimus V was running slow so I decided to reset it to factory defaults but I didn't know if your phone is rooted then you shouldn't do it from within android so I did. Then I couldn't get it to do anything but boot up into ClockworkMod Recovery. I tried loading up old backups but every time it just boots back up into Clockwork. So then I went here:
prepaidandroid. org/index.php?title=How_to_restore_your_Optimus_V_to_almost_original_condition
and I followed the "flashing stock ROM" section but when I rebooted it still went into clockwork. Really I just want my phone to work again. Anyone know what the problem could be?

Can't really figure out how to use ADB though, hah. Every tut on it seems to tell you to do completely different things and I don't know enough about it to figure out how to use it in this case.

Ok so why do they say not to use rom manager?

Just like the title says why should we not use rom-manager on this phone?
from what i can remember it installs a ****ty version of CWM that doesn't cooperate well with our phones.

gotcha. i wish koush would do something about rom manager because the atrix also had a wipping issues on roms and he never fixed it
From my recent experience with the SGSII, the recovery is integrated into the kernel (unlike HTC devices which have a dedicated partition for it). My guess is ROM Manager can't flash it, since it doesn't have the kernel image.

Edit: so I've been running miui this week and see the app rom manager. I'm fine as long as i don't actually do anything through it correct?

It breaks and does weird crap - I've heard it works OK if (and only if) you are currently on CM7.
But since you're most likely using it to move to/from another ROM... Just three-finger into recovery or if the ROM has an extended power menu use that for recovery.
Its best to just use three-finger or the extend menu power menu like Entropy said. I've seen Rom manager mess up leading to a semi-brick phone.
Hey all,
First time poster and new to rooting.
I ended up attempting to use rom manager to load CWM right after root, but I think that borked my wifi.
What can I do if I've already used it? I did it because I hadn't yet seen all the xda threads on NOT using it, and the place I was was not as well informed as you folks.
Also, how do I get CWM if not via ROM Manager?
My brothers EVO was royally effed up from using ROM Manager. Became a paperweight until Sprint authorized a replacement.

Read through the FAQs and this thread - CWM is included in kernels that support it.

I ended up figuring most of this out so I wanted to close this out (for anyone that stumbles past my original post).
Here's what I did:
I uninstalled ROM Manager - but this didn't get the wifi going.
I reflashed with the stock ROM and unrooted kernel - this still didn't help.
I did a factory reset - this did manage to get it going.
I was able to track down a CWM standalone that I flashed it with (using Odin).
I followed that up with a root, a wipe, and then a fresh flash of UnNamed.
Phone seems to be working fine.

When I first rooted my phone I installed rom manager because it looked easier to just pick the file that u wanted flashed and it would do it for u, so u wouldn't have to play with the volume keys. But every time I tried to do anything with it, it just said certificate not found. Aborting. So u shouldn't use rom manager. I think it works with the roms that u download of the app but not ones from XDA.

If you're on CM7, ROM Manager can be used to install gapps - that's about the only thing it doesn't seem to choke on.

You cannot get CWM via ROM Manager - that is the point. It comes with certain custom kernels such as Entropy's DD kernel. If you do not have a CWM kernel - you will more than likly need to use Odin to get a kernel with CWM.
If you have totally screwed things up - look in the dev thread for "the return to stock" section and start over doing it the right way

Hi first post as well XDA forums so in depth and helpful decided I wanted to be apart of it. Still a noob though ill work my way up.
I am trying acheive the same goal he is, that is to say Instal the UnNamed (it is exactly what I want) Rom on my Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket.
Keep it brief: Rooted my phone using root exploit:
it will not let me post link. the zergrush one
and bellow flashed clockwork mode using stand alone not ROM because of this forum. Model 5.0.2.6
I wipe catch, battery, then format everything. Then I start to flash the ROM. The installation begins. It cleans and formats everything again, then sais that there was an error in the file and it fails. After this if I dont restore my phone will not start. Ive tried it several times being even more thorough on procedure and its the exact same error every time.
Im just wondering if its the way I rooted it is incorrect, The CWM Im using is not the correct one, or if Im doing something wrong entirely. I think it might be CWM but I have not been able to locate one like he did that worked.
Any help, suggestions, criticism or advice would be very helpful. I just thought Id ask. thanks in advance ^^

You need a custom recovery to flash roms such as cm7. It is also used to make a backup of your phone and wipe the data on your phone. How is it that you've flash cm7 (which means that you've also used your recovery before) yet you don't know the purpose of having a recovery? I think you're going way to ahead of yourself.
Sent from my LG-P509 using xda premium
I'm guessing it's more of a case of he's flashed cm7, using the recovery to do so, but doesn't understand the behind-the-scenes procedures that go into the actual flashing.
you need to read the sticky thread if you dont know basics
Think of custom recovery as the basic setup/installer tool for anything and everything related to custom ROMs, kernels, etc. .
kdz and lgdrm are only for stock(OEM)/official releases.
The reason you need it, because it's the only way to do it and carrier's don't give you access to change your ROM. Does Microsoft put mod chips/software in xbox 360? No, hell no, they only give you limited access and regulate what content can be yours.
Custom recoveries come with features that you normally can't do, like nand(full phone backup) backup.
It's this way because that's how it has to be done.

Just because your phone is "rooted" dosent mean you can install a rom like a app, you need to use clockwork mod, why do you need it? you need it because it allows you to perform actions that you couldn't do on a stock phone. With clockwork mod you can back up your system files, restore system files, install new roms for use or testing. If your phone is just "rooted" all it means is you can now access system files, use certain "root required" apps, being rooted is step #1 to installing clockwork mod, its like your phone is unlocked, if you just want your phone rooted to delete some system apps thats fine, but it is wise to flash clockwork mod because it can prevent your phone from being bricked and now you can install roms. so the answer is pretty simple, how else would you install a rom without clockwordmod? you couldnt so its just one of those things you need, hope this helps man
reply
apart from all this custom roms come packed as zip files n kdz updater or lgdrm doesnt recognize these files so u need to hace custom recoveries like cmw or twrp or amonra

I don't think that you could do that... since the phone doesn't even come with CM7 in the first place. Doing a factory reset / restore wouldnt bring the phone to stock CM7. Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't it bring the phone back to FroYo since that's what it came with?
CM7 is already a custom ROM so there is nothing stock about it... Stock means whatever the phone came with from the box (FroYo) CM7 is Gingerbread.

If your running cm7 or any rom you can do a factory/reset through the rom your using, it will just erase all info but wont delete the rom and it will delete apps so when you reboot you will have to set up Google account like a new phone, cm7 will still be installed and your current rom it will just be like new, to do a factory reset go to settings, security then hit factory reset, reboot and then back to a clean start on cm7 there will be a option to erase everything on the SD card, hit no if you want to keep all files on your SD or hit yes if you want it all gone, goodluck p.s the only way you can go back to stock is to flash a stock rom and if you made a backup of your stock rom before you flashed cm7

Remove root. Help need please

Hi,
I am rooted on my S3 and all is good. However, my Father also has an S3 and last week he was talked into rooting it by his Grandson. All went well but long story short he was not happy with having a rooted phone so has decided to remove root. He has now done so by following various guides. He used Triangle away which he says went successfully and has used Odin to put the latest stock firmware on the phone which again he says went successfully. I was not there when he did all this but phone seems all good.
Except one thing. He has tried to install a couple of apps he had before rooting. Barclays bank app and Sky Go app. After installation these apps are saying they will not work on a rooted phone, but it's not rooted any more. I have booted into recovery using Volume down, power and home buttons and it says custom firmware / rom, I can't remember exact wording, but it says no. Also in the phone menu where a rooted phone says modified in device status it says normal or whatever it should say. Again can't remember exactly but all looks like no root present.
Anyone got any ideas on this? As I am rooted on my S3 and never un-rooted it yet, I do not know if he should have done something else. Will he have to root again to run triangle away or anything else. Or can this be fixed as the phone is at present?
Thanks for any help guys.
Cheers, Rich

Good idea. Just so I can warn him, I'm guessing this will wipe the phone and he will have to re-run setup etc?

Hi,
My father did the factory reset today and it wiped his phone and he went through the new set up. However he still can't install some apps as they are still saying they do not support rooted devices. I just can't figure it out. Any ideas please guys. Thanks
Cheers, Rich

One basic question..are you still able to go into recovery..vol up+power+home..if yes you are still rooted...you need to find your stock firmware and flash it via odin
check if it was a stock firmware your father flashed orcustom ROM o.follow this guide to do it again

Hi,
Just tried that and the S3 will not go into recovery via volume up, power and home. Tried several times and it just powers up as normal. He has just tried his banking app and it's telling him the phone is rooted. I'm stumped on what to do.
Cheers, Rich
Sounds like maybe triangle away didnt properly remove the count, was the firmware he downloaded the official one for his phone? Was it previously branded or anything like that?
go supersu and click remove root

Hi,
He has superSu on the phone. Presumably it has downloaded from the play store when restoring the phone. However, he tried to uninstall it which just removed the updates. Couldn't go any further. It is now asking for updates which he has done. But when he tries to launch Super SU it says no apps configured and won't go any further. I think the fact that super su is on the phone, the apps are thinking it is rooted. I am doing this all over the phone so can't see what's happening.
I'm wondering if the way to go now would be another factory reset and when restoring everything, try not to let play store instal super su. Would this be the way to go, or can we get super su off the phone without a reset?
Cheers, Rich
Try uninstalling super su with titanium backup. Then factory reset. Are you sure you have flashed a stock ROM and not a rooted one. This doesnt sound right.

Why not try reflashing again with original firmware via odin.

Didn't know there was something like that. Now I am on stock and un-rooted. I can still go into the recovery by pressing vol up+power+home keys.
Hi,
Trying to do these things with him over the phone ain't easy. I may just go and get the phone and do it myself.
He does have supersu on the phone and it is working, well it's installed anyway but obviously does not do the root things as the phone is un-rooted. There is an option in supersu settings to remove root but will this work as the phone is not rooted? Question is how on earth do I remove supersu. Do i need to re-root and remove it that way?
Cheers, Rich

Can't uninstall via Titanium backup as he is no longer rooted unless he roots the phone again. It is a stock rom. It was downloaded via the official rom thread on here.
