Live wallpapers cripplig performance? - HTC EVO 3D

Anyone else notice slower performance with live wallpaper running? My friend has a g2x and his has no slow down. Sense doesn't scroll through home screens as smooth with live wall paper. I figured those days from laggy home screens on the og EVO were gone with the EVO 3d.

Your doing something wrong then. HAHA mine is smooth. If it's fine without the live wallpaper then get rid of it?

Although live wallpaper runs better on this device than anything Ive previously seen, there is still some minor lag. Some may not notice it, but its there.

The Live Wallpaper developers are obviously to blame as there are some Live Wallpapers that do a horrible job utilizing the APIs properly. Take for instance the Starfield Live Wallpaper. It has run like a dream on every single phone I've put it on including lower end phones, no matter how many stars I turn on. Then you have the Thunder Live Wallpaper which undoubtedly blows on pretty much everything. There are some intense Live Wallpapers that are done correctly and provide a great experience with no lag, and there are some less intense ones that really suck balls. It just depends on if they were made correctly.

I like the weather one that cane in the phone but I can't use it cause it causes major lag......

Here is a video of the kind of lag people are talking about

This video isn't mine, but this video shows my exact issues. This happens when web browsing too, it isn't smooth as butter like some say, I experience slight scroll lag in my web browsers. anyway, here is a link to show the market lag.
My question to you all: if you do this on your phone, do you lag like the EVO 3d or are you butter smooth like the nexus s?
www.youtube.com/watch?v=COelN9Ots0g
I have it too, but i didn't notice until just now. Doesn't bother me though lol.
EDIT: This only happens on my market, not my browser, just checked it.
Yep have it too I am just hoping an update fixes it, and for sure a good ol custom ROM by Myn for sure will
Meh, I deal with it.
no doubt this is crappy code... but i dont really care if the market does not scroll properly. If my web scrolls right and there is not real system lag.. then im McLovin my 3vo =)
hail to the hack .. cant wait!
Wow what a nitpicker. THE DEVICE JUST CAME OUT! Be patient. It's not a showstopping bug... just a minor annoyance. Sheesh.
Maybe i'ts just the app because appbrain scrolls extremely fast....
man some of you really need to have better things to do. Really market scroll lag, are you telling me you normally scroll that fast? Out off all the things people complain about scrolling. I mean common now, my so called nexus s does that sometimes too. No phone is perfect. I am waiting for the evo 3d to be in my hands on thursday and I am sure I would have better things to do with it.
jesus if you wanted an imediate stable mediocre os so fast you shoulda gone iphone. especially considering gingerbread is new, even newer the 3vo, so chills.
switch to a non live wallpaper. my choppiness in the apps drawer and browser went back to being butter smooth!
Who the Eff would be scrolling the market that fast anyways? I scroll slow enough so I can read! Besides, the market was the same way for me on my Evo, on any sense rom that is. AOSP roms and the market was buttery smooth. I'm sure it will be the same way with this phone. Sense always scrolls lists a little laggy. Scroll a little slower and problem solved! lol.
Clearly, icons aren't getting cached properly.
I have the lag to is it the phone or the market I'm trying to figure out
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
LOL really...
E3D
Considering I never open up the market, go to all applications and scroll back and forth as fast as possible, I'm all set.

Well I guess Qualcomms strong suit has never been in the graphics department. What a joke. But the question is it only some phones with with the problem and does it have to do with the ota

Yes, I get choppy lag while scrolling through the XDA app, or also on the market. It is annoying.

Just did it, I forgot about the piss yellow and doo doo brown theme lol, but yea the choppy scrolling is gone. I always thought its because of the huge animated banners.
It's funny i was about to ask about this..I've gotten slow.lag scrolling sometimes and other times not..im rooted and oc'd to 1.8 using setcpu (until I can figure out the daemon) ..I noticed whenever I lagged setcpu had my CPU running like 300mhz..even when set to performance. All I want is for my CPU to go to the speed i select when the screen is on and back down when its off ..but instead it seems to bounce around too much..I noticed when I turn up both freqs up to 1.8 my browser is butter smooth..I get about 8000 in cf bench.. I wish I can get it to stay like that without having to keep it running so high while sleeping

Hmm...i didnt expect this from google.
Thats nowaday a crappy way of desinging a OS.
They need to make more improvements.
Makes sense.
Have you seen Windows Phone 7? It's sooooooo smooth its not even funny. I mean, it makes me smile every time I'm typing a text message and I switch it to landscape mode. In fact I switch between them because it just makes me smile.
On Android on the other hand.... its just plain bad and choppy even on a dual core device.
The accelerometer has always been one thing that I absolutely hate about Android. Its way too slow. On Windows Phone 7 its INSTANT. On Android its a wait of between 2-5 seconds. Very annoying. And when it finally changes orientation, the transition is crap. It doesn't even exist! (Although Motorola has added one in its Gingerbread builds)

Microsoft did one thing right with WP7: they made sure it ran the same no matter what hardware you were using. Including the unsupported HD2 haha.

But seriously, what do you mean when you say lag? Screen transition lag, app opening lag, web page loading lag?

you mean the touch wiz widgets? I was able to load touchwiz wigets on my skyrocket when using launcher pro. I will try on my GNote. I have launcher pro set up but use touch wiz on my GNote.
EDIT: On my skyrocket using launcher pro, I can install any of the touch wiz widgets. Using the Galaxy Note with launcher pro when I try to install the digital clock or accu weather it says "not enough room on this screen" even though there is nothing on the screen. Interesting. Beautiful widgets works fine...
I'm pretty sure the twitter app on the international note does that as well. To me it just seems like people are phishing for instances where the phone lags. This is apparent at least for the mobileburn video, especially when he was in the browser. I don't believe it to be that concerning, personally. While its important to take note of these things, I say sit back, relax, and enjoy the experience.

He actually didn't find lag in any of the phones basic operation which is what would be optimized. He only found lag in a few specific apps. Making the culprit a software issue for those apps and not a hardware problem necessarily. I know for sure on all the android devices I have the twitter apps lags bad. So as far as I'm concerned there is no noticible lag anywhere. The browser functions were smooth as ever, except for the tab switching which iirc happens on the Int. Note as well.

dont worry about lag.i have international version.only time u will see lag is when u wake the device.its because,on the note cpu runs at 200mhz while the note is sleep and does not kick at higher cpu clock unless u launch a app.most of time cpu stays at 200 even scrolling thru touchwiz and app drawer making battery last almost two days.just think of a device running 400mhz with touchwiz.it will be slow as ****.but galaxy note runs pretty good even at lowest cpu clock.you will never see a lag browsing web or playing games.

I am not a gamer but from my experience with my GNote and what I have seen in the videos, they are comparable. I think mintu123 was saying that even with the international GNote, you will see come lag when scrolling between screens and the app drawer because the CPU is not running hard and kicks up the speed when you need the processor for apps etc.
I'm not terribly bothered it only has small but noticeable kicks of lag. But wtvr. I love this beast.

Screen lag..

I'm starting to get more and more irritated with this phone. I sent my galaxy nexus back for this one and I am starting to regret it. Every time I browse facebook and swipe up or down sometimes it lags about a split second and then it will scroll. It also does it on web pages. picky are we? lol
here is the thing brother..... you gotta keep this in mind, when these devices are designed/programmed(but this has mostly to do with the programming aspect) the developers try to find a healthy balance between performance and battery efficiency. every now and then you may see it sputter ever so slightly, but it is intentionally designed that way. your other option is to have your GPU in overdrive every time you even breathe on your screen and suck your battery every time you send a text.
don't be so picky. you have a 400mHz GPU with multi-point rendering capability.... it's not the hardware brother....
Sense 4.0 lags sometimes, it sucks but I don't think we can totally eliminate it. I notice it on different occasions, usually when I wake the phone up or open the app drawer.

you are basing "better" on blips in the user interface? lol come on maannn
and for the record... every nexus i have picked up was laggy as balls.... maybe that has something to do with the fact that it has the same GPU in it as the OG nexus
just sayin
i mean if it is TERRIBLY BAD then i would say it is the rom you are on, some misc tweak, maybe your 2d forced rendering isn't checked under the settings, who knows.... but i have had mine for a week now and have maybe seen it sputter like once. and i use it pretty heavily.
The EVO is better for some coming off different phones with completely different hardware. The evo 4g vs LTE is a no brainer. LTE wins. The nexus on the otherhand has similar specs as the EVO. (Dual core, ics, screen resolution?) Anyways you get the point. Get a phone based on personal preference. Not because its "the next big thing" the nexus is a great phone for some. Definetly not for me. Hence the reason why I got the LTE rather than the ole so stunning S3 or nexus..
hardware is beyond than extraordinary. Root the beast and unleash its full potential (when the proper Roms are fully functional). Or wait out official HTC updates.. my 2 cents

The only stuttering or lag I get is sometimes on my lockscreen. I am using the weather lockscreen and the weather will stutter it's way in instead of being fluid. I think it is just the phone coming out of sleep.

I’ve actually noticed this as well and I agree that it’s a little annoying. When scrolling in pretty much any app, my finger will move about 0.2” before the screen reacts. Once it realizes that my finger is on there, there is no problem tracking.
I downloaded Touch Test from the market and confirmed that this is not a hardware issue. In that app, the moment my finger touches the display, it begins tracking. The lock ring also moves immediately on the lock screen, so it must be something in certain apps.
I have noticed lag in the browser when scrolling when I have flash enabled. I noticed on my Galaxy S2 that when I would scroll down a web page with flash content, any flash content that is active continues to to be active while scrolling and it was VERY smooth. On the EVO LTE however, anything active flash content will become inactive. The lag I have experienced seems to be when the Evo takes a split second to "pause" any active flash before it begins scrolling. The more flash on a page, the more lag I experience. I've simply turned off my flash player. It's annoying to have to do that, but I have come to terms with it.

Curious on y'alls decisions. I'm really in to space (the universe) yet have failed to find a good, high quality space wallpaper (live) that I like. And static images can have a much higher resolution. I love to wow my friends when they see I have a live wallpaper, yet I feel that static wallpapers have their pro's as well. What do you guys think?

Just go to the live wallpaper section in the play store and check them out. I've seen a ton of "galaxy" and "cosmos" ones that are pretty nice.

I like to use the live weather wallpaper that comes pre installed. I like when I wakeup and I can see if it will most likely be sunny or rain from my background animation.

Solar System HD Deluxe I've never had problems with battery drain, well one time before I rooted the Fascinate, umpteen phones ago. Not at all on the DNA and screen brightness is almost all the way up.
There's a live wallpaper project that a devloper did involving HD and high quality at that, space images. The developer put a ton of research and development into his project. He believed their was a better way to develop a system from the ground up and from talking to the users it ran very well looked good and was extremely efficient in battery and resources. For all I know you guys might have discussed it already.
I will see if I can find the thread in question it was in the last few weeks I ran across it I think.
If some of you guys are wanting to experiment on some paid live wallpapers or get more info from me, send me a PM. I'm an app collector and might can provide better info than simply reading the play store description.
I can't answer a million questions on every live wallpaper app but if its supposed to be top shelf or the best of the best and you're wondering about it feel free to hit me up.

Just paid for it. It uses the gyroscope, giving a 3d effect when moving the phone! First time I've ever seen a live wallpaper do that

Sweetness, I new you'd love it.
I prefer the phase beam live wallpaper that comes on AOSP ROMs.
Ever since I found out that live wallpapers drained more out of the battery I stopped using them. Though the DNA is a different class phone so idk how much of a difference it really makes.
