[System Image]GP2Xperia (.145, UK-based) - Xperia Play Android Development

This is my very first "development" for Android, I hope that you'll find it useful
It is a custom system image, like the ones from Frasertag and Thomassafca.
The name comes from what I would say describes the ROM best: GP2X is a series of open-source, Linux based dedicated gaming devices, which are popular for being able to run homebrew software and emulators. The Xperia part needs not to be explained, I hope My idea was to reduce the clog of the phone's software to a minimum, bring a couple of good open source programs and utilities and bundle them with some well-working free emulators.
List of changes
-Root
-Busybox (I've left Stericson's installer as well just in case)
-Left standing (it takes less time to list them than listing removed items ):
Alarms
Browser
Calendar
Camera
Clock
Contacts
Downloads
Gallery
Messaging
Music
Phone
Settings
Voice Search
Xperia Game Launcher
The rest of standard apps, including the home launcher, was wiped.
-Added:
Astro File Manager
Gingerbread Launcher (thanks to Paul O'Brien)
Chainfire3D (thanks to Chainfire)
K9Mail
Droid2600 (Stella-based Atari 2600 emulator)
Snes9x EX
Tiger Arcade, GBA, GBC, Genesis, NES
Xperia Play Touchpad test (thanks to svenk919)
Xperia Reboot Options (thanks to Doomlord)
- I have kept the standard theme for the iteration no.2, due to compatibility issues, but I intend to use Nhialor's theme in the future.
Installation
0) Back up your relevant data. I recommend Titanium Backup.
1) Install the 2.3.3 FTF package supplied by thomassafca (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1097591) with Flashtool.
2) Wipe the phone's data partition, either from the phone itself (Settings-Privacy-Clear data) or from ClockworkMod. Instructions for running ClockworkMod are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130639
3) Switch off the phone and reboot it in fastboot mode (connect it to the usb cable holding the Search button).
4) Type in your terminal of choice:
Code:
fastboot flash system GP2Xperia-xda.img
fastboot reboot
Download
You can download the image (iteration 2) here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VG23VDXD
Mind the fact that it's a 7z file.
All feedback is welcome! I want to learn Edify scripting in order to be able to flash ROMs like this in the shape of update.zip files. That will be very important once we have CWM embedded in the device. If anyone could point me towards ressources in order to learn about said scripts, or teach me about them himself or herself, I'd be very thankful!
I would like to thank the following people for helping me create this ROM
Frasertag, for showing me how to do it
Nhialor, for allowing me to use his theme. As I said before, I hope he continues on it.
Thomassafca and kanzone, for providing the ROM files I used to create this ROM
The FreeXperia team, for bringing us much of the Android goodness. I hope they'll continue to do so in the future
Blagus, for stepping up the game with and for his custom kernel.
NielDK, for giving a hard-earned Xperia Play to Blagus for the sake of development
The DarkyROM (SGS) team, since they showed me that flashing was fun ^^
The developers of the apps I bundled in the ROM (svenk919, DoomLord, Chainfire et al.)
REPORTED ISSUES IN I2:
!! You need to re-enter the APN data for your carrier.

Now this is more like me
Very, very cool!

very nice, im going to try this right now

Btw while we're at it. Is there any cons when unlocking your bootloader? I'm tempted but not sure yet.

You'll lose official updates (SEUS, OTA and PCCompanion) and TrackID will not work anymore (the DRM certificates which are needed for the app get wiped). You still can update through Flashtool, and use other apps like Shazam or SoundHound.

Aight, think I can live with that!

Gonna flash this later, let you know what I think tonight or 2m! Get the best of all worlds, love emulators, love the theme -P) and I <3 stock GB launcher!

im sure what im doing wrong, i literally followed your instructions word for word but it still hangs when i try and flash
im using command prompt on windows 7 32 bit
heres what CP says: c:\Program Files\Android\android-sdk\fastboot>fastboot flash system GP2Xperia-xda.img
sending 'system' (176302 KB)...
your system image is located in my fastboot folder

There is a certain lag between giving the command and starting to get outputs. I was (and still am) scared of that as well but it took a minute until I saw the whole blocks being erased.

yeah, i no about that lag, it usually takes 30 secs or so to start but on my command prompt its been the same for over 5 minutes, i dont mind waiting longer but im pretty sure nothing will happen

I confirm your issue... This is really weird. I'll start from scratch and see what comes. Maybe I was a bit too eager to post here

Hey man, that happened to me with a custom image.
What I did to fix it was, factory reset, reflash a stock image, modify it, then back it up. Then apply the theme and back that up. Try flash that then!
EDIT: Re-read over that, and it sounds kinda retarded Basically, you're going to have to rebuild the img!

Hey good work but will the gamepad work with the modded kenrel I mean the normal xplay games not emulators
Sent from my R800i using XDA Premium App

Good news: the second test build seems to work.
Bad news: I need to hunt for reliable sources for the reliable emulators so it'll take more time. There are some apps called "SNES A.D" and the like in the Market. I was going to use them, but i checked their permission sheet and it made me shiver.

A shame you can't use the "oid" emulators as they are very good!

Well, theoretically I could, as they are still being distributed for free on SlideME. It'd make things MUCH, MUCH easier. But of course, their free status is listed as temporary (even if the famous "2 weeks" are well over-passed). Nevertheless, I wonder about Gearoid (he doesn't sell it anymore).
I guess if I drop a line to Yongzh so that he lets me use his apps I'll get my ass kicked in shame, aye?

Yeah it's weird that he forgot Gearoid as it rocks (too)

Actually, what I did was preparing the whole apps, then flashing your theme through CWM before backing up and extracting the system.img file.

Will try this when issues are fixed.

Rooting my Eris

Ok, before you tell me to search, I have. For two days. I have looked at everything from forums to youtube videos on how to root the droid eris. The thing I am trying to do the unrevoked method. The thing I can't get past is in the begining. I go to the hboot screen by pressing volume down and power. I plug in my usb cable and nothing happens. I think I'm supposed to see it say hboot usb plug. It doesn't. I go to devise manager just to check and it doesn't show my phone. So I'm sure you can see my frustration not even being able to get past the first step. Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Matt
Got it fixed using the 1 click root from the market. Then added XTR Sense rom. Works great.
Congrats and welcome to a whole new Eris!
Yes, congratulations, and furthermore, excellent choice of a "replacement" ROM, I just recently went back to xtrSENSE after perhaps four months playing with Froyo.
FYI, I suspect the issue was you might've needed the Windows drivers for the phone loaded before using the unREVOKED method, but it's just a guess.
Install HTCSync (available from HTC's website) for the Droid Eris and that'll install the correct drivers, which will take a moment to load the first time you plug your phone in via USB next time. Also, give it a moment to load those drivers before doing anything like mounting the SD card to the computer via USB.
I just rooted mine back in December and the 1 click was the one that made the most sense for me, i didnt even kno bout the unrevolked til after i was rooted....but im loving the cm7 gingerbread roms, for being such early versions there really stable

You were probably afraid that you'd let the smoke out.
I'm about to take the plunge myself. I use the Trackmaster app for recording lap times. From my research, Sense does not support the SPP (Serial Port Protocol) bluetooth profile. But, I understand that a non-sense (AOSP) ROM will have the entire bluetooth stack intact.
I've been following the tazz and shed GB threads with much admiration. It's just amazing what some folks will do for coffee money. And guys, I wish you all the best with your personal struggles!
My plan is to root this week. Make sure the phone remains stable. Practice that Up-Volume & Power Button thing a few times to make sure I can follow the flash procedure. Then grab GB next week.
I've read the rooting for dummies thread, and will use the one-click root app from the market. Free one first. Then if all is well I'll download the pay one.
Successful GB load will get a meal, and after I confirm my bluetooth GPS unit works with Trackmaster, coffee money will follow.
As you may be able to tell from the above sentence fragments (or maybe the straight forward I don't give a sh.t if I violate any social protocol plan) I'm a former Engineer (retired), so constructive advice / criticism is greatly appreciated. And I got the time to double-check everything.

Many people with less analytical skills than you have rooted, and it sounds like you've done your homework, so it should be a snap for you. The only thing I will add is to re-emphasize what you proabably have already read - that you should:
- check the file integrity of all file downloads (using MD5 sigs or "jar verify" principles for ROM files, e.g. use 'scary alien's" AFV (Androd File Verifier) free market app)
- charge the phone well before any flashing operations (and don't let it sit in HBOOT or Fastboot modes for extended period of time - it discharges rapidly, even if plugged in)
- make a Nandroid backup of your existing ROM. If things don't work out with the BT issues, you can always go back to where you were, little worse for the wear.
cheers and good luck
Thanks - didn't have the MD5 crypto check in the plan, but it is now.
I just can't believe how good the work being done here is. I used to contract for much poorer work for much more money! This just proves that passion beats bucks every time!
p.s. I pushed that Thanks button for you, but damned if I can tell if it worked
p.p.s Got the Thanks thing - I see it now.

One thing to add: the Gingerbread ROMs require you to download and flash a google apps .zip file before you restart the phone, unlike many other ROMs that include Google apps as part of the ROM. So, that is one more file that you need to check an MD5 hash, and the procedure will be something like this:
- download and verify the GSB/Tazz and Google apps zip files
- copy them to the root directory of the SD card, and check the MD5s there as well
- root the phone
- restart it to get the root process to install custom recovery
- restart in Recovery
- Nandroid backup what you have
- wipe data/factory reset
- wipe Dalvik cache
- Flash GSB (or Tazz, whichever one you choose)
- Flash Google apps
- restart the phone

Interesting doogald. I understood that root should be done first before any downloading. Thanks for the above instructions! I had things a little out of order. Would you mind clarifying when the SD card format should be done? I was going to:
- root the phone
- format SD
- copy ROM and gapps
- MD5 check
- restart ... and follow your order above.

Honestly, I think that the SD card format is unnecessary. Unless I am mistaken, it was suggested in part to rule out issues people might be having moving from rooted Froyo to Gingerbread, to erase the SD card's /.android_secure hidden folder - where apps that are moved to SD Card in Froyo are stored. That will not be an issue for you if you are stock Eris.
However, it won't hurt to do it, and that would be the step that it should be done.
Thanks again. Its nice to get confirmation.
Ignorant question - The one-click root app says to "reboot" the eris. How do you reboot the eris?
I searched forum - read the whole one-click app thread - googled "reboot eris" and got nothing.
NEVERMIND!!! I turned the phone off, vol - & power, select recovery with vol +, then select reboot.
And I got a Superuser Permission... widget now.

FYI rebooting the phone at it's simplest is just telling the phone to shut down the Android OS and then boot it back up. This doesn't have to involve actually shutting the power off to the phone but it can if you so choose. Also, some ROMs and/or through some apps/widgets, you can explicitly command your phone to "reboot" from within the Android interface. I just didn't want you to think that any time a "reboot" is needed, that you have to boot into recovery and choose the "reboot" option from there.
It's just like a reboot on a computer. Actually powering the computer off isn't really necessary to affect a reboot.
Welcome to root and XDA!
Thanks!
I saw a lot of references to Titanium Backup so I DLed the free version. Its happy now after I enabled USB Debugging and download from Unknown sources. So now that I have double checked I Know I got root now.
Oh, and since I confirmed root I uninstalled the one-click root app and made a donation to the San Antonio Food Bank.
Welcome to the dark side ! At least we have coffee and cookies here !!! LOL
Seriously though, so what ROM did you end up choosing ? Any time someone new to the forums finally roots and flashes a ROM we like to see how things are going and see that your process was successful !
GSB 1.7
Awesome!!!
Now I gotta finish up downloading my apps and getting things set up. This is totally cool.
I did:
- reformat SD
- copy goodies from PC
- wipe data
- wipe dalvik
- flash GSB
- flash gapps
- flash c2c
- reboot

There are two Skype apps for Android: a "special" one for VZW that does not work with WiFi (at least on the Eris it does not), and a real version that does work over WiFi. The VZW version will use Verizon minutes to make calls to phone numbers but 3G for Skype to Skype (and international calls.) I think that the real Skype app uses 3G or WiFi for everything, but 'm not sure.

[Q] With latest stock update is custom ROM still important?

I have a Gtablet enroute right now and have been doing a lot of reading the last few days. When first released all the talk was that it was a nice peice of hardware but to be any good you had to use a custom ROM with it. Is this still the case with the latest 4xxx update?
Pexcer,
It all depends on what you want. That's what the choices XDA offers here are all
about.
When we started with G-Tablets back last fall, the software was so bad it was
almost unfunctional. It has improved with each update. With 4349 installed you
can put your apps on it and have a functional tablet -- but whether it is good enough
for you is your call.
There are a number of alternate ROMs and each has it assets and liabilities.
The only way I know to approach it is to read the threads related to each rom and
see what those advantages and disadvantages are. You can eliminate some that way.
And whatever you have left, you will just have to try and see what you like.
I know this is not the "Go use the _______________ rom" that a lot of people will
give you -- but I'm not pandering for anybody's rom. I believe everyone should
research, try and make their own choice.

I'm more inclined to go with the fastest rom I can get my hands on. I don't care about looks. And stock rom will never be able to fun as fast as custom rom.
That said, you should make this decision on your own. Depends on what you want. If you are like my brother in law who wants everything to be official and fully officially supported, then I suggest you stay with the stock upgraded rom. If you're like me who doesn't care that it's the official release and would rather have a super fast tablet, then custom rom is definitely the way to go.
In another thread, I was endorsing the new calk/clems combo v3, which my quadrant test resulted in 4081. I've posted a picture in this post. Right now, the only thing that seems to be faster than this is the modded xoom, which is only about 80 more. I highly doubt the stock rom will ever be able to give us this much power.
Thanks for the response. I may try the stock UI for a few days when I get it. I have been having difficulty in really seeing the differences between the different ROMs out there though. One thing I plan to do a lot is watch TV shows I've downloaded from TVtorrents, these are 720p x264 in an MKV, is there one mod that can handle Video like that or is that a non issue. I can also grab non HD formats which would have a higher chance of working, but would rather not.
I've also read that hulu can be made to work, at least on one ROM, can't recall which now. If one does Hulu and another doesn't that would be an issue as well. I only download shows that Hulu or Netflix doesn't have.
Any guidance from people familiar with the different options would be appreciated, might save me from some trial and error in the next couple weeks.

Torrents blows goats. their download speeds are as fast as my original G Tab os. File Hosting is the way to roll.
Off my soapbox, I agree with goodintentions. Speed and stability is the key. after that, ADW, 3D Launcher, VTLauncher and a few other Home screen launchers can customize your experience. let us know how yours runs. I won't go that route until the ROM's for it (1.2) are out and stable.
I don't have the newest update that just came out, so I can't comment on that. But I can mention why I went back to the stock ROM. I got my g tablet when woot was selling them. I left the stock rom on for a week and it worked pretty well as a shared device between me and my wife. The stock apps let you keep separate accounts. I put on clockwork and formatted the drive as recommended, then I tried TNT lite, g harmony, and cyanogen. They make your tablet like a big phone. When you sign in to the google apps, all you contacts, calendar, and emails are imported. This didn't work so well as a shared tablet. I decided to leave clockwork mod and the recommended formatting but put the original ROM back on. With the proper formatting, the thing isn't too bad. Probably not as fast as some of the folks here would like, but it serves our purpose as a shared device.
Half the fun (and half the aggravation) is trying different roms. Which is best? That is hard to say. Here is what I suggest. Don't get the latest update with the locked bootloader because then there is nothing you can play with. Get Titanium Backup so you can back up your apps. Learn how to connect t o your pc with usb so you can copy your stuff safely away while you play. Install clockworkmod so you can fix things and install different roms. NVflash is also a good thing to set up and learn but you don't have to right away unless you got the latest update. Now do this.
1. Use clockwork mod to make a backup of your original rom and copy it to your pc.
2. Download and install a new rom calkulin/clemsyn is nice. Use clockwork mod again to make a backup of that installation.
3. download another rom and install. Use clockworkmod to make a backup of that one.
4. When you've tried enough of them you can decide which one you like and restore it using clockwork mod.
5. Changed you mind? Restore one of the others!
6. Rinse and repeat as needed.
Remember Titanium Backup will backup your apps and data - so, if you install a new rom you can restore your apps and data. That means you don't have to go fetch them all in the market and you don't have to restart angry birds at level one.
There are lots of tutorials on how to do this stuff - read the stickys.
Good luck
Try a bunch of ROMs
I agree with enigma. I got my Gtablet last week and immediately updated hoping that the new stock ROM was good enough. It isn't. It's slow and "chunky" plus doesn't have access to the Android market.
I've heard good stuff about the calkulin/clemsyn and Vegan. Being that Vegan is Honeycomb I just went with that though I really should have tried calkulin/clemsyn too as so many must like it for a reason.
I'm new to Android as well so don't get too hung up on the difficulty of installing ROMs. There are very clear, step by step instructions to be found here. Each install takes maybe 15 minutes. So in an afternoon you could easily install and play with half a dozen ROMs before deciding on which you like better.

if you need vpn, cifs then you need a custom ROM
It depends on what capabilities you want. I need VPN and COFS so I use TNTL 4.4. Also, you can install alternate keybaords. The custom ROMs also tend to fix a lot of issues.
Shame on Viewsonic for locking bootloader in the 1.2 branch.

[ROM] [WIP] Honeycomb SDK Port - The Return (Updated version 4! 5/9)

[size=+3]Honeycomb SDK Port - The Return [/size]
1. Introduction
So, for quite some time, we have had the excellent work done by deeper-blue, in porting the preview SDK, which whet our appetites for more Honeycomb to come. But despite Google allowing companies to ship Honeycomb devices, we have not had a source drop. As such, i felt like taking on the challenge of making the full SDK work on the nook; and now, here we are. This is build off the SDK 11 (rather than 10), and should be compatible with all real Honeycomb apps. Lets proceed.
2. Thanks & Credits
Before i go ANY further, i want to say thanks to whose people's work enabled and inspired me.
deeper-blue - It was your original modifications to the preview SDK that allowed me to get a BIG start on converting the full SDK. Honestly, i don't know how you figured out to do most of what you did, but it works!
dc13 - Your Asus Transformer system dump provided all the nice extra apps that are in use on this rom, in addition to the update framework. Thank you for your hard work!. http://forum.sdx-developers.com/eee-pad-development/ti-x-transformer-pad-v1/
rookie1 -Your dual boot Honeycomb script provided a great basis for a non dual booting script. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=959461
I admit, i put together what i could with what i could find; if anyone is unhappy with what was used, please let me know and we can rectify the issue.
3. Installation
Not a whole lot to this one. Installation requires at least CWM 3.0.1.0. I am using internal CWM, so I will only certify it with that. I guess some people use CWM SD cards, but i am not sure how well it works with them.
Load the included .zip file on the SD card, and flash.
THIS WILL WIPE YOUR SYSTEM
DO NOT install this without having a good backup of Froyo or CM7.
DO NOT FORMAT BOOT
DO NOT INSTALL THIS WITHOUT HAVING A GOOD NANDROID BACKUP
Install take a few minutes, but once you are up, you will be greeted with the setup screen. Be sure to have a good Wifi around, it makes it easier to set everything up. Also, be sure to give the system a minute or two to settle when it first boots. Once you are all setup, you will be greeted with the full Android experience. Which leads me to my last bit of info.
4. Issues
Not working
- DSP (i think i jumped the gun on this one)
- From time to time, the screen may seemingly partially lock up. If this happens, please try to get an ADB logcat and post it here ("adb shell logcat > aFileName.txt"). A reboot will fix this issue.
- SD Card - RIght now, this is the big one. Not sure what about the framework change killed hte SD card, but i dont seem to see mine any more. If anyone has any ideas, lemme know

5. Community
So, what to do from here? Well, i will keep doing what i can, but i am by no means an expert. I invite anyone and everyone whom could possibly help make this better. If you think you can get Root or Market working - dont even ask; grab the code and mod away. If you have any advice, please share it. Android is so amazing because of the community.. lets keep it that way!
6. Links & Releases
5/9/11[/b]
This link represents a new phase of the Honeycomb build. I have adapted the framework from the posted eee Pad V3 build (linked in section 2). I feel this is a huge step up in UI, and a good push towards a daily driver. The UI is still a bit laggy, but it isn't too bad. Again, it wont be perfectly fixable until we get the source, but for now, its coming along.

7. Questions and Answers
With the stock Market still being funky, what options do i have?
The system can still side load apps, so any APKs you can grab can be installed with adb. Additionally, because of this, you can install other 3rd party Markets such as Slide and Amazon, which will let you install more apps.
Can i use the HC overclocked kernel?
At this time no. I have tried using the last released HS OC kernel, and something about it causes the system to hang at the boot animation. I want to look into it further though, and see if i can discover the source of the issue.
As of RC1, the kernel shipping in this package, is the same one that is found in the "HC-v4-emmc-2nd-edition" released for the preview SDK.
What is different about this release, compared to the other SDK port
The previous port was based off of the preview SDK, which Google labeled as SDK 10. The actual release of Honeycomb however, was bumped to SDK 11. This port uses that code, which means that it should be compatible with all the new new Honeycomb apps (Google body, etc). Certain things, like the Gmail for tablets, do work, and show what Honeycomb is all about.
How much more can be done on this release?
From here, the big fixes would be:
- Getting the stock Honeycomb Market to work
- Getting audio working
- Getting newer OC kernels workin
- Smothing out the UI experience as much as possible.
How can i help?
All the source that i had available is in the .zip package. Because there is no freely available source, all the work involves modifying the released binaries and framework .jars. There is additional tweaking that can be done to the ramdisk and kernel. If you feel adventurous, all of these are in the update package, and can be tweaked at your leisure. If you think you have something, don't be shy - zip it up and let us test it!

Gave it a try - no go. Lots of force closes going on...
I am soooo looking forward to this. No matter how great the other roms are. I just love the Honeycomb UI. Downloading now and will play around with it and hopefully will be able to contribute in someway.
Thanks,

Thanks for working on this! Hopefully the issues can be fixed soon enough.
I will poke around with it also. I ran EMMC v2 for a long time and the HC UI was just so smooth.
Thanks Madcat for taking this on.
I know this was meant for EMMC. But I just prepped and installed this to my SDcard rom and boy do I loves me some honeycomb. I assume you are aware of the red border issue? Or might it be because i'm running it off an SDcard. Don't mean to throw things off with the SD install.
Thanks,

hey yea, im now a regular here, good to see a familiar face haha

OK, just flashed CM7 latest Gapps. Market shows up. Signed in. Can browse. Search. But unable to install any apps.
Error I'm receiving is Google Services Framework (process com.google.process.gapps) has stopped unexpectedly.
I can install backed up apps by pushing via ADB and through a File Manager
Awesome ROM! Many people will be happy to see HC development move forward.
I was able to flash this using the SD card I use to flash CM7. I had a few keyboard FCs that was stopped when I specially picked US english. Glad to see wireless working, and the SD card slot works. Nook encoded videos play poorly, but I can't tell if its the DSP or the lack of audio. Interesting to see the differences between the final SDK and the one we had previously.
Thanks again!!!
well im currently giving it a try. Like you said, market doesn't show up but i saw that in my notification bar it said that i had updates. I clicked on it and it took me to "my apps" and installed all my paid for apps just fine . I'm not able to get to the rest of the market though.
Thank you
Many thanks Divine , Have been waiting for this for a long time. love the widgets.
I am interested in this, carry on

Need urgent help regarding clockwork recovery mood

hello gentlemen
i bought my viewpad 7 last week. after digging this forum i tried to root my tablet with super one click but i was unable coz it stuck in screen and happen nothing somehow i tried gingerbreak and it worked. as i am totally newbie in android os and i have no idea on programming. but the most important thing is clockwork recovery i saw couple of youtube videos and tried working but ended up with error . i dont know how to setup adb on my pc so i tried terminal emulator but no keyboard.. tried qtadb but show me '' permission denied'' now i am pulling my hair off. i have got rom manager installed on my tablet but whenever i ty to install update.zip it say signature error or somthing (i have got custom rom in my sd and renamed to update zip also i have clockwork recovery img and flash recovery) the only thing i need is a working terminal emulator as i have no idea on comand from pc.
so is there anybody who can give me a easy tutorial or make a video to demonstrate how can i get clockwork recovery installed also custom rom i would be really really greatful
hope someone saves me...
Hello & welcome, there's no need to panic but definitely - very important to be patient, set aside at least half a day or more, and, read - read - read. Take notes as you go along & do NOT rush.
If you have not gone thru this sticky, please do so - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1236990
Sticky #1 is mandatory reading to take full advantage of the Vpad7 so that you can understand the basics, describe your Vpad's hardware & build information, etc. and how to press various buttons, go back, reset & get into Recovery and Bootloader. Without knowing it, you are prone to run into problems.
First, you need to check & make sure that your CWM (which verison) is properly installed & working (and, if so) - check under the Advanced submenu to verify "Signature Verification" status.
Do you have an "older" non-ITE or "newer" ITE multi-touch screen device, which determine which custom ROM can be used? Be specific, please ...
Generally speaking, there is no need to rename a downloaded ROM's zip file to update.zip for flashing ... so I suggest that you do more reading first.
Do you have USB debugging turned on? Applications - unkown sources turned ON to allow installation of non-Market apps? A working knowledge is essential to avoid (soft) bricking your device by being able to understand the process for Flashing - start here http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Flashing_Guide_-_Android
There's nothing simple & easy about all these, sorry - time & patience is a requirement to get everything working together. Look under the "Development" section for how to install ROM & the issues involved - there are just a handful of ROMs and you don't need to spend a hundred hours going thru all of them, a few hours of reading will do - a 10 minute Youtube video isn't going to do it. The best person to "save" you is you - YMMV. Regards.
thanks a million i finally made it. i used rom manager to install un official clockwork recovery and did install custom rom however i need one more final solution i was trying to get app2sd but my rom maker said it is built in inside the rom just need to creat ext3 but i guess i cant do that without comand so again is there any manual method to do that i saw an option on rom manager but it offers only 512mb partition but i want more may be 8 gb or 4gb i have 16gb sd card.. so can u help me pls...
and i yes i had usb debug on. unknown source on

1. Rom manager - I do not use them on my Android devices but if you are comfortable with it and help simplify your tasks & learning curve, good for you. Remember to backup, backup & backup your work & save it to more than one location - those "oops" happened to all of us, sometimes (and, at the worst time - Murphy's Law 101)
2. You only need a few files in its own sub directory or folder to properly run adb and busybox, and, to run the (good old DOS) command prompt from your PC - just need to type the commands carefully. Alternatively, Terminal Emulator (with or without the shell or user interface) can be downloaded from Android Market to the Vpad7 to install & run (it's not pre-loaded) with SU enabled ... (more reading for you on how-to's)
3. Not sure if you are referring to App2SD in Market (quite a few out there) or DT's A2SD and A2SDGUI in some of the custom ROM. Vpad7's custom ROM recommend 1 MB SD ext3/partition in general (ext4 is more advanced and challenging) - there is no need, advantage or benefit in a 2GB or 4GB ext3 with a 16GB mSD card (as you are allocating/reserving unused space that you cannot dynamically changed or reassign later on as you begin to run low on "general" storage space on the card - PLUS, you will have to reformat the card & wipe/lose everything on it, until it's restored from saved backup)
FYI - I keep the last 3 to 5 CWM Backup images/files on the mSD card and it's close to 3GB in size already, not counting pix, mp3's and saved videos.
4. Older version of CWM Recovery worked best for me in repeated ROM flashing & setup to partition/format the mSD, verison 5.0.2.6 can work but the newest one posted 5.0.2.7 did NOT work for me - YMMV, of course. Refer to the one in Cleanviewpad7 V1.0 and its instructions or EU Vapd 7 V1.7b - as I'm guessing from your description that your device is a newer ITE multi-screen hardware build. KWBR V3.2 ROM works with ITE and has the newer kernel and A2SD is easy to use per installation guide - it's lean & stripped of non-essential apps.
Have patience, backup & have run !
thanx again for ur reply but i dont know why i do not get keyboard on my terminal emulator. i tried to put comand through terminal emulator but due to keyboard issue i cant i also tried dos but i have no knowledge on that. can u make a video for me or a tutorial how can i get a2sd work on my vpad 7

First, as I asked before, we do NOT know which ROM you are trying to use?
But, I'm going to guess - since I've flashed all of the working ITE ones here, and you are using KWBR v3.x - and, if so, please confirm or verify, yes or no.
If so, I had issues with its keyboard not showing up in terminal emulator, and there are different reasons for it - namely, including the OP developer's choice of installed KB. However, as a workaround - by running adB/busybox from Windows Vista's command prompt, I can execute instructions to re/mount, reboot, etc.
By installing a different KB & switching to it, it worked under terminal and I can run command prompts directly. There is a learning curve involved here - not something to rush, rather steps by steps - there are "stickies" in the threads and I do not want to further clutter up excellent guides already written up, 6 to 9 months plus ago - which I took time to read, follow & work with. I encourge you to do so as well.
My advice, the easiest to do, is to install & start with a different ROM - Cleanviewpad ROM is basic, simple & easy to install, virtually "bug" free and I suggest that you start with that. KB worked directly as a toggle, popping up from terminal emulator, and you can run commands from it.
Once you are comfortable & has everything working, you can optimize your A2SD and move apps from internal storage to mSD card, etc. and progress to the next level - EU Vpad 7 V1.7b ITE ROM is nice but from experience and reading the thread's posts, some "beginners" lacking knowledge & skills have trouble with it. By running a # of patches, I get it updated to the latest and it's running optimized to my personal liking - it's not entirely difficult to learn but not for someone completely new to Android OS.
Here's a link that you could've google right here in XDA - guide to ADB - bookmarked the link for you, please search for other guides, thanks

hi there thank you so much for helping me again and yes i am using kwbr rom because i have tried cleanviewpad 7 but stuck at welcome screen doesnt work anything then tried lakehouse froyo enhanced but link disabled so stuck with this rom.. i really wish i cloud post on dev section coz im kinda stuck with this post..

sorry for bothering u but would appreciate

Are you making good progress after rooting with custom ROM, learning a bit more about using adB and terminal emulator? I searched my storage bins for what I've kept for the Vpad7 - and I have NO luck yet finding the Froyo enhanced ROM. I did uploaded the EU V1.7b ITE custom ROM to Dropbox, along with the a2sd*.zip file (just in case, you are comfortable & ready to try - after backing things up) The A2SDGUI app is available in Market, just search & download & install up once the EU V1.7 ITE ROM is up.
A2SD does NOT need to be working for the ROM to do its basic functions, just that it will soon run low on internal storage/memory and that's where A2SD come in. If you find it useful, do a CWM backup first , then use the earlier version of CWM to reformat the mSD card again (thus, wiping it clean) and setup a 1MB ext3 partition per detailed instructions. Reboot & reconnect USB, and move/restored all of your saved files/folders/settings, etc. back to the mSD drive.
Next, flash the A2SD program by DT again just to be sure from Recovery - and then Restart into Recovery. Wipe cache & dalvik and boot up again - cross your fingers and A2SD should be up & running - check it with A2SDGUI and/or Titanium Backup will display various memory/partition/storage space & usage (used/free & total)

Again, I am and will be be responsible for anything if something goes wrong by using & flashing these zip files, they are unchanged or unaltered as I originally downloaded them. I'm simply posting them with the mess created by the multi-upload servers being offline, etc. as many folks are completely at a loss for what to do next. Full credits go to the OP/xda-developers for creating their masterpieces. If you are not comfortable or unsure, please do not proceed or assume the risk - the stock ROM, especially unrooted, isn't bloated by any means at all. There is NO over-clocking at this point for any ITE kernel for the Vpad7, period - none that I know of. Folks, do NOT confuse or try this with Vpad7e (which is a different device, sorry - cannot help at all)
Regards & do post with your results and share, and, if I can help further with the specifics, will be glad to do so.

Personally, I prefer and continue to use EU V1.7b for ITE, it has support for European languages as well as Asian languages. KWBR only support Euro language and the ROM is more "stripped" down with fewer apps, but it does work nicely "out of the box" with A2SD - downside being that internal memory/storage still seem to run low (once I re-install 50+ apps on my device)
For EU V1.7 - it's using an older version of Android Market, but can be easily updated if one wanted to, and, has a few more "basic" apps pre-installed including Documents To Go - and, by adding "Car Home" - I have a working 7" GPS device in the car when needed (sound volume is low, however due to those tiny stereo speakers) - I have been running it for 5+ months now, very smooth & few, if any, FC or freezes, and, Angry Birds running nicely on it, same with YouTube videos over WiFi connection (my 3G is on Edge network, so speed is SLOW and thus very choppy due to broadband speed, not CPU-related)
If you are running KWBR nicely now, do a Backup from CWM first, wipe cache/dalvik & system next - then flash the EU Rom and setup - to see whether you like it. And, if you do - follow the post's steps that I wrote up a while back and get A2SD running with the earlier verison of CWM for ext3 partition, restore/copy back all the files to the mSD card - and reboot/check for A2SD functionality, hopefully - it works without further tweaks - and I think you will like it.
If not, it's easy enough to get back into Recovery, wipe clean it first (very important to clear all traces) and RESTORE the KWBR image from the mSD, and reboot - and you can continue using it. Set aside 2 or 3 hours to do this slowly & right, and you will find the process educational & informative - and, as I always remind newbies - the rules are simple - Backup, Backup and Backup !!
Cheers & go have fun !

[MOD][Debloat | Black Google bootanimation] Taintless

Going to try and keep this short, sweet, and to the point.
I modified and created a zip for personal use all the way back to my Nexus 5 days and through my N5X use. I like my ROMs extremely minimal. Removal of media files and applications that I didn't deem necessary to have. Even went as far and told the script to remove the stock launcher and replace it with Nova. This little guy worked wonders for me and saved me loads of time. My app drawer (on initial start up) only consisted of the essentials; phone, contacts, messaging, a file manager, and Google Play. Only leaving the rest to be downloaded as needed.
----------------
Since ROMs aren't abundant yet, I'm deciding to share my zip to those who actually want to remove system apps and not settle on them just being disabled. Also, to keep from going into a file manager after every OTA/update removing each app individually.
-----------------
Had to modify this little guy to work on our phones.. It took me a bit to figure out (of course, right? Nothing is 'straight forward' with these phones )
-----------------
1.) I use this for personal use but did take some consideration in other users so majority of what I don't use is still there, this list would be a lot longer (and yes, some apps are for my older phones and didn't feel like removing them from the script).
2.) I will not remove an app from the removal script - if you don't like whats being removed, don't flash the zip.
3.) If I have forgot something that comes on the phone that CAN be downloaded from the Play Store (and can not be uninstalled), let me know. I'll add it to the script.
4.) If apps you are currently using are in the removal script, don't worry. The script makes them a user app instead of a system app (in my case it did anyway).
What's removed: :highfive:
*Clock (Google)
*Maps
*YouTube
*DownloadProviderUi
*HTMLViewer
*Calendar (Google)
*Drive (Google)
*OmaDmclient
*Photos (Google)
*Gallery2

*Galaxy4
*GooglePinyinIME
*Music2 (Google Music)
*NoiseField

*KoreanIME
*OpenDelta
*Launcher3
What's added: :victory:
*Google stock bootanimation (black background with no text!)
*1 additional ringtone
*2 additional notifications
*4 additional alarm ringtones
Installation: :silly:
1. backup your ROM (there is no 'undo' button, so if you want whatever you want back, do a restore)
2. flash through TWRP (do not wipe cache/dalvik unless you want to get stuck on the Google logo - a hard power reset solves that problem anyways)
3. reboot

Again, you all are on XDA for a reason and know the risks of modifying your device in any sense. Since everyone else does this, I'll do it too:
I'm not responsible for your device.
For those that are having force closing issues on certain apps, enabling immersive mode within apps seems to fix the problem..
Things you need:
You need Android Terminal Emulator in the Play Store or cmd on Windows
i would prefer to do this from a PC so you can copy and paste the commands, but it can be done with any terminal emulator also.
Step 1: Connect your phone to your PC enable USB debugging mode
Step2: Open up cmd in Windows or the emulator on your phone and copy/paste or type:
- adb shell
itll give you a '$'
then copy and paste or type:
- settings put global policy_control immersive.full=apps,-com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox
should enable automatically.

the app wont run after zip. uninstall, reload from app store... still cant run app... app prompts to activate phone.. activate runs and app starts to work.
Same with "google" app (the default app that show when you swipe left from home screen.
Gmail too....

I don't run the Google Fi app, nor did I even touch anything related to Fi..
My Google app works as intended, and I redownloaded gmail, and that works too.. Idk what could be the issue on your end..

Version/update doesn't matter..
Corrupted as in how?
I still use twrp 3.1.1. Beta 2
Corrupted as in it won't let me boot up into the OS. It's with other mods too
So far I've received an issue from a user on here (youll be able to read their issue on the last page) and i assume its user error due to me not having any issues at all..
My question is - has anyone else tried this script with complete success?? Given the 'thanks' i received, im assuming (again lol) that its working fine. In my experience on XDA, people only comment on whats wrong, and keep quiet when things are running as they should.. I'm now asking to voice your success just for reassurance for me
let me know guys, thanks! :good::fingers-crossed:
Just wanted to confirm that the debloat script works on the Feb update.. Just did it myself :highfive:
However, I did have a couple force closes on the Google app and Twitter (weird) -- after some testing, i got it working by enabling 'settings put global policy_control immersive.full=apps,-com.google.android.googlequicksearchbox' again
After I enabled that again, everything functions fine. :good:
Maybe this is needed for some apps that force close after flashing this debloat script (if you like immersive mode in apps)..
I'll post instructions in the 2nd post on the first page
Hey, thanks for this! Any chance of an update to April release?

Yeah I find that happens too. Plus despite having busybox titanium isn't even deleting system apps anymore, they are still there after reboot. So for now I stick to freezing...
