[KERNEL/MODEM][ODIN] SC02C SC02COMFK2.tar - Galaxy S II Original Android Development

***Japanese SC02C Model Galaxy S2's ONLY***
What is this?
It's a modem and kernel for your Japanese market SC-02C that is ODIN flashable.
usual disclaimer applies, I'm not responsible for any STD's you get as a result of flashing this.
Flash this in ODIN AFTER you flash the ROM of your choice, and you will have good reception and working GPS.
Info:
baseband SC02COMKF2
kernel [email protected] #2
You should also NOT see a yellow triangle at the Docomo screen on boot.
Here it is:
http://blacklinux.com/pages/public/computers/android/SC02C/SC02C_ModemandKernelOnlyODIN_v1.tar
md5 ae6b67667f09264551914ee17132d50e
Flash as a PDA in ODIN.
NOT USING AN SC02C and not sure what this is? IGNORE IT and leave it alone!
I've tested this to work on Cognition and Litening so far. works fine.
For those of you that are bone stock, from the factory and want root. All you gotta do is flash CF-Root-SGS2_XW_ODD_KE8-v4.0-CWM4 with ODIN then flash this.

Great! thanks for putting this together. Beats the manual method.

For those outside japan that don't know, we need this specific kernel/baseband because its the only kernel in existence that supports the TV tuner on the japanese S2 and the baseband gives optimal 3G performance here, so we usually need both of these after applying a custom rom, and the Odin files haven't been supplied on the Kies servers yet (these were ripped out of live phones).

in my testing, GPS also will not work without the SC02C kernel installed. Just the baseband and it won't work. no chance in hell (I think?) of getting an overclock kernel with GPS drivers created unless we get a source from NTT, but I doubt that will ever happen.

Should probably include a warning not to flash this on anything but an SC-02C. Wouldn't kill it but wouldn't have any beneficial effects and would probably necessitate a full rom reflash to recover unless the user saved a baseband image.

kinda sorta. The above listed kernel/baseband combo pack doesn't work. If you flash it over your CM7 it won't boot because the kernel and OS are mismatched.
I've tarred this file:
http://blacklinux.com/pages/public/computers/android/SC02C/SC02C_ModemOnlyODIN_v1.tar
It's the same as the original one, but it's just the modem. No Kernel.
I'm running CM7 109 with this flashed over it right now and reception is great, but no GPS/TV since those drivers are in the SC02C kernel.
recap:
CM7 as is = works on SC02C but 0-1 bar reception max since the baseband is incorrect. No GPS/TV.
CM7 with SC02C modem flashed = Everything works great, but no GPS/TV.
CM7 with SC02C kernel/modem flashed = Won't boot.
I've also noticed that the camera works fine in still, but when I switch to video it force closes. Probably more CM7 specific though...
Cheers!
ps, i'm grabbing SC02COMKJ4 right now and going to see if I can get that to work with CM7. Doubtful though. What's the latest full release for the SC02C from docomo? 2.3.5?
*EDIT* SC02COMKJ4 kernel doesn't work with CM7 109.

Best ROM for battery life?

Hi,
Just wondering what is the best ROM available at the moment either 2.3.4 or 2.3.5 for best battery life?
Thanks!
i was using [ROM][2.3.4][XXKH3] Cognition S2 v1.5.1 with great battey life,
now trying some 2.3.5 based roms but too early to tell for now
I'm experiencing great battery life with stock KI3 Rom. Anyway, i flashed it yesterday so it's too early to tell, but that would be my suggestion.

The link you provided is for the XXKI3 Kernel, not ROM. THe link for the full ROM can be fund here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1277020.
I'm no expert, but I understand that you have to be root user and have clockwork recovery properly installed and funtioning to flash any ROM. Anyway, once that is done, it's really easy to flash new ROMs, just reboot in recovery ROM, and install from zip file in SD card. If this is your first ROM I strongly suggest you prepare yourself and read the articles there are about it, how to do a full backup in case anything goes wrong, etc...
Also, if it is your first time flashing a new ROM, you must understand that you may have to try various ROMs before you find the one you like, but that is the fun of it.
I've tried all the roms in the original dev section, and to be honest most are similar, depends on kernel as well. Most importantly usage, what might give one user excellent battery life might give another poor battery life. Best way is testing yourself.
I like VillainRom for its stock like features with the ability for us to tweak instead of a fully tweaked rom.

You can flash the Kernel with Odin but you may encounter problems depending on the ROM your are on. I'm not an expert in the subject of flashing diferent kernels so I mostly prefer not to do it. Instead, I keep the kernels that come with the ROMs I flash since the dev that created the ROM and chose to use that kernel knows a lot more than I do.

Plus one. Using Cognition, trying to scout and see which 2.3.5 ROM's are decent!
I have now rooted my phone and installed GT-19100_XXK13_original.zip
I am unsure if it's overwritten the kernal I flashed yesterday which was the Frankenstein one
How can I tell?
Just go to setting, about phone and look for the kernel version (you have to scroll down a bit). If it says XXKI3 somewhere it means you have succesfully flashed the kernel.

to get a proper measurement of a roms battery performance should be either with "video loop" while screen being on all the time or with the screen being off all the time... (best with both battery times)

What roms will not update the bootloader

I have played around with the unnamed rom and I was wondering what other roms can I try out that will leave me the option of using creepy's return to stock method?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
You can get that information from each rom thread, or ask in the thread before flashing. But if you accidentally flash a bootloader that won't allow you to boot with a jig, or accidentally flash an I9100 bootloader, you can always flash back to the I777 UCKH7 secondary bootloader. I've recently added instructions in the return to stock guide.
Thanks creepy. Just don't want to do anything irreversible.

None of the ROMs in the i777 Dev forums have Bootloaders, that I am aware of. Bootloaders can fairly easily be identified by the naming sbl.bin . If you see that in a ROM i recommend staying away from it anyhow. Should be no need for a ROM to include a bootloader.

To my knowledge, the only ROMs that include bootloaders are straight leaks - if it's an Odin One-Click download beware.
There are, to my knowledge, no CWM-flashable ROMs that include bootloaders for the I777 at this moment. I cannot guarantee this when Hellraising I9100 ROMs - some of them might include BLs.

we had cwm flashable bootloaders on the Captivate. its perfectly do-able on this phone too.
You can also flash ANY of the leaked versions with Mobile Odin and it will not flash the bootloaders by design.. If you use the paid version you can also flash them and retain root. I have used it to flash the leaks solely for the purpose of pulling out the modem.bin files from them.
But as others said I do not know of any of the time in the Dev section that includes different bootloaders. I think the leaks are ONLY in the General section.

For a screen shot, touch power and home softkey at the same time.
That rom is a ported I9100 rom. The phone gets that info from the build.prop file, found at /system/build.prop, and his build.prop didn't get changed for the port to I777. You can edit the file with a root file manager or with adb, and the edits will appear in your about phone. You just have to make sure that you only edit the items that relate to the info that needs to be changed. You could maybe compare with a build.prop from the I777.

[Q] Need help making sure i choose the correct CF-Root kernel

Hi
(I have done a fair search about this and did come across some results but im still not quite sure on what to do)
This is my first attempt at rooting my phone and i want to make sure i dont end up with a $600 brick.
Im going to use the CF-root method outlined in this tutorial thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399
My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100 unbranded and bought in australia.
I have already searched for my kernal versions on http://hotfile.com/list/1967350/4304d29 but its not listed.
My kernal is: [email protected] #2
This is the one listed in the CF-root tutorial thread and the one im planning on using: CF-Root-SGS2_XW_XEN_KK2-v5.0-CWM5.zip, would this be the correct one?
Here is a screenshot of my "about phone" page:

}
That is my main question.
If im successfully in rooting my phone am i correct that i can go ahead and start trying out different ROM's? As long as that kernel is installed i can just install whatever ROM(for the SGS2 of coarse) i like on top?
Big thanks for any help.

Yes, having a CF-Root kernel means you get root, busybox and CWM recovery. These tools allow you to install custom roms and mod your phone with ease.
You may find that most roms come with another kernel, as long as it isn't a stock kernel things should be fine in terms of modding

Your choice of kernel is correct.
After rooting, you'll be able to flash other roms using cwm. you'll find plenty of tutorials and videos floating arnd on the net.

Cheers for the help guys, much appreciated.
So just how important is having the correct kernel? In terms of safety, ah la non bricking my phone is it best to have a kernel as close to the most up to date official stock one?
And when i do flash a custom ROM/Kernel do they already come with root or ?
Big thanks for any help.
There's always a (very small) risk you'll brick your phone with any given flash. If you used the wrong CFRoot kernel, the worst that could normally happen is the phone wouldn't boot. As long as you chose the CFRoot kernel that is an exact or closest match to your current kernel, you'll be fine.
The only thing you need to be careful about re: possibly bricking your phone is ensuring you're flashing firmware for the SGS2 variant you have; I.E only flash I9100 firmware to your phone.
Every kernel that I've seen that's been supplied with a custom rom has been rooted. Obviously if you flash a new kernel or a rom (I've never seen a rom without a kernel supplied), the new kernel will overwrite your existing kernel.

It's always reccomended to have a kernel as close to your most up to date official stock one, but in terms of safety, if things were to go wrong, ie: bootloop/stuck on boot logo, then this is classed as a "softbrick" & not a hardbrick, & is relatively easy to recover from by just pulling your battery then going into recovery & doing wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache! & if that fails then there's always this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15330252 or this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457458 for your salvation!
In general, as long as you're not flashing a Pit file or a Bootloader through Odin 3, then the chances of you hardbricking your expensive toy are minimal!
Once rooted, you can always use CWM recovery, or install mobile odin (needs root!) to flash whatever you like from there! At least that way you'll never have a warning triangle or flash counter going up in value, & you can always use triangle away here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114 to reset your counter for warranty repairs!
Awesome help guys thanks very much.
I have one last thing to clear up and then ill stop pestering you guys, i promice
So if i manage to get the initial CFRoot kernel flashed and root my S2, then can i go ahead and flash a custom kernel/ROM like this one(following the instructions given on the page to a T)((for example)([ROM][ICS][02/05][IMPORTANT P.1454]HyDrOG3N-ICS 02.05[BYEDROG3NICS.ED'][DASWAGG])(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1530179) ive found in the "Galaxy S II Android Development" section and only have the (very small) risk of bricking?
I know this is all in the tutorial thread but i just wanna make sure im doing things correctly.
And damn, mobile odin is sweet, once i get my head around things ill def be using it.
Big thanks again for any and all help.
Thats what the instructions say flash via CWM recovery .
Risk of bricking if you follow the instructions is almost nil .

I have another thing i need to clarify,
So most modded rom's come with their own kernels, can i choose to install just the rom and use the CF-root kernel? Would that be on the safer side of things? And if i did use the included kernel that would be for performance increase side of things?
Thanks for any help.
Install the ROM, then flash a kernel cleaning script and finally CF-Root. A cleaning script is optional but usually a good idea when switching kernels.
The included kernel in a ROM is usually just there by preference of the ROM dev. It doesn't always mean it will be more stable or better for performance/battery etc. The only way to find out is to test - in the end it's whatever works really.
Cheers for the help

Galaxy S3- Multiple ROMs All Show "No Network"

Still 'no network' after several attempts of fixing

So I tried different ROM's, 4.3 onwards (Official stock from samsung, I9300XXUGMK6_I9300OXXGML1_XEO, JustArchi_I9300XXUGML4, JustArchi_I9300XXUGMK6, CM's and more)
Tried ale these: Patched_XXUGMK6_modem.zip, XXUGMK6 Modem, XXEMG4 (EFS V2), JustArchi_Kernel_XXUGMK6 etc. All dedicated for EFS2
Currently I am working on one from this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/rom-sammys-4-3-btu-deodexed-rooted-t2569180/page14
Did all that what was instructed and I am still having an issue with our beloved "Not registered in network" thing
It seems it is all okay, I have IMEI number same as under battery, Network bars are avaialable, Network recognized (as above in screenshot: Chess) radio is working but still can't register network. I have passed miles digging on web - every thing hopeless. In Get RIL it says that it is not installed, maybe that is a crucial thing. Guess the only explanation is that my EFS is corrupted.

I know you have tried flashing a patched modem but I think you need to flash both patched modem and kernel.Try flashing both of these patched modem and patched kernel from here >> https://drive.google.com/folderview...sharing&tid=0B6MIUd7HJudAbU5YaGkzOUowMG8#list << and report back. Try both of the mk6 versions
Of course I tried both every time. For example rom JustArchi_I9300XXUGMK6 and then I patched it with JustArchi_Kernel_XXUGMK6 and JustArchi_Modem_XXUGMK6. Also tried these you ment above (both)
Applied same combination for I9300XXUGMK6_I9300OXXGML1_XEO which is official ROM and proceeded same procedure.
I have tried that as well on other XXUGMK6 roms but nothing helped. I didn't use use any Ariza etc. I know it may fck up the whole thing

I think you are confusing things here forget about roms your problem is that your efs is corrupt and you need a patched modem and a patched kernel the rom is not important as long as it is a newer stock rom. The link I sent you is for specific patched modems and kernels that work with corrupt efs these are what you need.
You keep mentioning JustArchie Rom and modem these work with efs v2 but as far as I know they are not patched to fix a corrupt efs. What you need to do is flash a stock rom any one will do newest one the better the JustArchie one will do in your link and then flash the kernel and modem in my link. Don't forget both the modem and kernel need to be patched or it won't work. As far as I know both of JustArchi modems and kernels are not specifically patched for corrupt efs although i think he does a patched modem in one of his threads.
Try my suggestion this as worked for many people who have your problem although it doesn't work for everybody. Hope it helps If it doesn't work then I recommend a service repair.

They aren't my patches ( I wish I was brainy enough to make them ) I only provide the link the patches are thanks to Süleyman Yelgec. They are for 4.3 roms v2 efs that are corrupt please note if they work you will always need to use them if you change to other roms. Try the mk6 modem and kernel first or a combination of the others..

Well, none of these worked. I am living in the woods at the moment so can't send it to service I am struggling with that for 2 weeks already but can't manage. Most likely my efs is corrupted. I will probably still try to solve this
flash Modem DDEMG2.zip to get your imei. Then flash Patched_XXUGMK6_modem.zip to get mobile signel
Modem DDEMG2.zip - http://d-h.st/2mC6
Patched_XXUGMK6_modem.zip - http://d-h.st/j3h

Tried that but still I am stuck a the same point. The thing is that I get an imei number, it appears that it also detect my mobile network (Chess mobile - only emergency calls). It is supposed to to connect to network automatically but nope, even if I replace a simcard - same problem occurs. Choosing manually network does not help either. I am hoping that there will come a patch which will solve the damned thing.
It all has been fixed up by itself. Really I don't get it. Both of my simcards didn't work and lately I've got data network and today it registered to network. As I said I tried several times with 4.3 rom but none of these worked so I gave up. I hate 4.3 roms so just installed CM 12.1 and used mobile as a music device. So eventually got a connection and everything works as before.
Holy s..t, is there any explanation for this? I am so confused

I think that it is because of kernel. My brother also have s3. He is not getting mobile network in stock kernels. He got mobile network only in boeffla kernel & Agni kernels. Flash boeffla kernel in stock rom then try flashing modems. I think now u no need to flash modem because u got a network in cm rom. Simply flash stock & install kernel.
Good Luck :good:

Tried to flash TWRP on rooted Galaxy S4 (SCH-i545PP) - now I can't boot into recovery

Hi-
I tried to flash TWRP earlier today and now when I try to boot into recovery, the screen just goes black. The phone is a rooted Verizon prepaid Galaxy S4 with stock ROM.
Fortunately, the phone will otherwise boot normally. How can I reinstall a recovery system?
Thank you!

Odin stock from www.sammobile.com. Stock recovery is included in the tar. Use FlashFire for flashing, the bootloader is locked on this device.

Thank you. Do I download from the Firmware section of that site?
Also, after I flash that, will I be able to change to a custom ROM, like Cyanogen? I have been experiencing a lot of overheating and poor battery life.

OK, I just flashed the stock firmware that I downloaded from Sammobile.com using Flashfire. My phone appears unchanged. I still cannot boot into recovery mode, and all of my apps and settings are unchanged. What did I do wrong?
Thanks again.

no and no ?
you can't run any custom roms on this device other then stock tw based ones
Despite numerous attempts, I still don't have access to recovery mode. I used Odin to flash the stock firmware using the .tar file. I just tried flashing the PIT file, but the button quickly turns blue and says RESET, and my phone boots regularly.
Any ideas?

So there are AOSP ROMs posted here for no reason? That's BS.

I thought that's what I did - I downloaded a stock firmware from Sammobile.com - I545VRUGOF1_I545VZWGOF1_I545VRUGOF1_HOME.tar.md5
I tried to flash it again last night and although it passed, nothing on my phone was different (apps were all there, did not go through new phone startup sequence).

do I really need to explain what locked bootloaders are ?
the i545/i545pp is locked the only exception is if you have a original one thats still running 4.2.2 and no you can't downgrade
the s4 is a dead device MOVE ON

Yes I know what a locked bootloader is, but I am rooted with a custom ROM. You can flash ROMs and mods with FlashFire. Not dead by any means.

How are your comments helping anyone? You think it's dead, good for you. I, for one, am still currently using and developing for this device. As long as people are still using the device and the ROMs that are available then the device is not dead.

because he was asking if cyanogen was a thing ITS NOT
stop arguing with me
there are no custom kernels no custom pre-boot recovery you may or may not get root depending on your firmware version
there hasn't been a update of Note to any of the Roms in this sub in YEARS
sorry you disagree you are welcome to waste hours trying to get kexec running on the device then we will have something untill then its fuctionally dead because nothing you flash is gonna make a s4 relevant in 2017

So your advice to someone looking to make their device run better is to buy a new/different device? Just because it isn't "relevant" to you doesn't mean people aren't still using it. Kindly take your comments to a relevant forum.

I just bought a brand new S4 in Feb 2018 - on purpose, installed SmartDroid so I can enjoy a lightening fast quality device that's ad-free and has 3 - 4 day battery use - Trust me when I say, this is absolutely the most relevant aspect of the Smartphone experience.
