[Q] Phone starts to ''charge'' when turned off. help please. - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When i turn off my phone, the battery logo shows up, and blinks every sec with a yellow triangle and a termostate bar. the only way to turn the phone on again is to remove battery, connect a usb cable, putt the battery back in, then hold power.
using lightningROm 1,4. tryed factory reset.
does a new battery solve this issue?

Obvious question but is the charger connected ,
What happens if you connect the charger .
jje

Same problem here. Factory reset or stock rom does not solve it.

the yellow triangle with termostat bar disappear when i connect charger.
when i connect charger while the phone is on is takes about 10 sek before the phone starts to charge, and when i disconect is takes 20 sek before the charging symbol dissappears.
when i connect to pc, windows tells me 0,1sek after i plugged that it doesent recoignize my device.
gonna try my friends battery later today.

NORMAL

NO DRIVERS
I would be looking to return the phone if a factory reset has not solved the problem .

I have the same problem :-(. Battery icon that says "battery full, disconnect cable" and the cable is unplugged! What to do?

One question, is your phone worked fine after flashing or the issue occurred just after ? Perhaps, you did a wrong flash process... and you have brick your phone.
In that case, you could buy USB JIB to be able to reboot in Odin mode and be able to flash again. This is the only solution I thing.

As i said before, same problem, also tried to flash stock rom but nothing
To the other with the same problem, if u go into settings-aboutphone- and then battery use.
What does it say?
mine says 0 seconds on battery :S

Tried wipe battery stats? I know someone with this small issue...
To do so into CWM 4, this is into advanced section.

Yes did try that to
One of my battery apps"battery Dr " says health= over voltage
Supposed to be that?

I am using battery widget monitor.
I can read the temperature (27 celcius), voltage around 4000 mV with 90%.

Cant get rid off the prolem either, must be a samsung bug!

Help please!!i've the same problem!

Afer a million usb connects in downloadmode, odin suddenly recognized my phone.
flashed CFroot 4,0 and villain rom 1,4 and my phone was ok!
USB mass storage, and kies usb worked fine, and my phone stayed off when i turned it off.
but next time i charged my phone (orginal charger) my phone started to bug again. it stays off, but USB dont work in android. but download mode works.
dont want to flash the phone every time i charge...

I've the same problem...
does anyone resolve that???
i don't want return it to samsung..let me know!!!

i had a similar issue with my sgs1 .. turned out to be that the phone's usb port had some kind of rust ( which messed up the internal connectors of the usb port signaling the charging or connected to usb icons ) and had to send it in for repairs and they just replaced the usb port. i guess it was from humidity.
btw my phone never made any contact with water so i was surprised that that was the problem

[Q] strange problem in samsung vibrant

hi,
i'm not sure if this is the right place(or maybe in android dev forum), so let me know if you know a better place to put this thread.
i have a strange problem with my phone:
1. after charging battery stays at 100% all the time, even after a day, only after a reboot it gets fixed.
2. when powering off the phone and connecting to USB, the phone showed green battery icon, now it doesn't it just start to boot.
3. usb is not recognized by the computer anymore.
i cannot use the usual combo to get into recovery, i've managed by pulling out the battery(the download mode procedure) to get into recovery ?!
just noticed another strange thing, in battery status i see unplugged for 0 seconds, even though the phone is unplugged for an hour or so.
i've used nero V3, and thought maybe putting new rom will help.
so i've installed M3 flagship.
but still problems 2 and 3 remains(problem 1 i didn't check yet since i don't have
the accurate battery mod)
thanks for the help.

got excited for a moment thought some one had an answer for me
Those are weird problems. I would just start all over and odin back to stock. Then flash whatever rom you want. Don't forget to check the repartition box in odin

Sounds like it could be an issue with the micro USB port on the phone.
Just to make sure it's not a software issue try flashing back to stock JFD using Odin and see if it continues to happen.
can't odin back as my computer is saying that "the device is not recognized" and the phone still shows full instead of not charging when i disconnect it from the computer.

So while the phone is unplugged and stays unplugged if you pull the battery then put it back in does the battery charging screen still come up on its own even when unplugged?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
yes,
while when the phone is plugged in and im pulling the usb out, it still shows that it's charging. only after boot it get fixed.
Plug usb to computer. Pull the battery. Hold both up and down volume buttons together. Plug usb to phone. Then put battery back in. See if that can get you into download mode

did this:
shutdown phone.
pulled battery.
connected to usb.
pressed vol up+down
put battery back while holding the volume keys.
i got the vibrant screen and it booted as usual(got the same error in windows after a few seconds)

if you got the vibrant screen, that's not bad. What error in windows? not recognizing usb? the usb not recognize...does your pc have antivirus with latest def? what os version were you running on phone? have you made any changes to your pc lately like install anything? if not, have you try cold start your computer?
can you get into download mode?
try this [while power off or pull battery, put it back] hold down both volume + and -, now hook in usb cable, it will power itself up and put it into download mode.

i get in windows the "usb no recognized error" i see in device manager "unknown device"
i did reinstall the samsung drivers on my windows 7 x64.
i've also connected it to a vista 32bit with the same error, and my friend's windows 7 x64(he has i9000) and didn't get any alert at all from windows ?!
i've tried with:
nero V3
flagship V3
bionix-v
one more thing is, when looking in SGS tools on battery status i see the voltage/ADC/VF ADC values change all the time but the value of level stays at 100%
update: now i see in SGS tools that the battery went down 80% so this part works fine.

ive got the same problem. Flashing back to stock wont work.. For me it seems hardware related. Ive heard from other forums thats its corrosion in the usb port itself. Im gonna try cleaning it even though im sure thats not gonna fix it. On my phone my battery indicator will stay at 100% untill its been used for about 50% of battery then it will start reading correctly. Of course when you plug it in the charging indicator stays on untill its 100% even if the usb is not plugged in. I flashed back to stock using odin. as long as you have a usb connected notification load up odin with everything plugged in hold pwr+vol up+down untill your phone turns OFF then let go of just the power button you should see the robot digging. Then you can do whatever you want with odin, which at this point of my frustration isnt s*&$.... I really think that its just a crappy usb port design.... Let me know if you find something out.
OK guys, finally I have fixed that issue. Problem is with micro usb(corrosion). You just need take battery out, and clean micro usb port with alcohol and tooth brush very good. That's all what you need to do.

xperia p no charging lights, no usb detect, does not boot (not even the kernel screen

hello everybody,
i used to be active on the x10 forum.
but recently i switched to xperia P.
i unlocked the bootloader,
used fastboot to flash custom boot.img,
fastbooted custom kernel (FreeXperia),
installed cm10.zip with the CWM included in kernel,
everything works except wifi and bluetooth (which i guess is the rom's fault, so i dont really mind)
and then i installed apps from the cm10 file manager.
it detects my 16gb internal memory.
but my titanium backup and some other apps says it cannot access my internal memory, so it doesnt show any apps. (usb is disconnected)
so i thought mayybe some apps dont have access, so i thought i should mount my internal memory (although it already works for my cm10 file manager).
that was a very stupid decision because i used this code from this website which i got after i googled and used it on my terminal emulator.
guess what happened? my device got stuck/hang/frozen.
then when i pressed the power button, it was totally blank, no response and the screen went off.
i tried force shutdown by pressing and holding the volume-up & power button at the same time for a long time, that didnt work either, it had no effect, there was not even a vibration.
and when i charge it, there is no charging light.
it doesnt boot, it doesnt show me the kernel screen, or the CWM screen.
this is worse than a bootloop.
anyone who has previous experience with this?? or has a suggestion on how to repair?
any advice will be much appreciated :crying:

I think you've posted in the wrong forum - should be in Q/A.
Is your phone able to detect in flash mode? (while it is off, hold DOWN volume key and connect USB - check for LED illuminated)
Is your phone able to detect in fastboot mode? (while it is off, hold UP volume key and connect USB - check for LED illuminated PURPLE)

Hi.
1. Have you tried to charge it through the charger, instead of the usb por of PC?
2. If you tried, did you let it charge for at least 30 minutes? (Sometimes the battery drains so much that the phone needs time even to show it´s charging.)
If the battery charges, you should try flashing a Stock Rom through Flashtools.
If it doesn´t, then I can´t say you should do it but if I were in ur position, I would surely open my phone and try to charge this battery somehow. Google a lot to learn how it works, the wires, what is positive and negative and bla bla bla because your biggest problem NOW is not having power to work with the phone.
Hope you have good luck!
=)
Sorry please post your thread at Q&A

Use this guide to open the phone up and just disconnect the battery for a few minutes. Then try connecting in either fastboot/flash mode. The phone may need to be repartitioned and reflashed.
Same issue
Hi Davin-J
Did you finally solved this problem? I have the same now. And my battery should be good.
...............................
1/2 day later:
It was the battery. I managed to get it back to life as copper62472 told us. The strange thing was, that the Sony charger didn't charge the phone battery; may be because I bricked the phone before with system/data/cache wiped and formatted. I was not even able to restore it with SUS, because the phone was not detected at the USB.
Then I charged the battery outside the phone with a current limited power supply. After putting the charged battery back into the phone, restoring with SUS worked without a hitch.

My xperia p is also in dead condition now. I'm thinking like it's battery is fully drained. It all started with flashing of a custom kernel.
i could take the battery out. i need to charge it by external means. How can i do that? Please help me.

Xperia P wont boot and if cable is plugged and it doesnt even charge

Hello to all!!!
I have a problem with my XPERIA P(not rooted or unlocked), it wont boot if the cable is on the phone(pc or wall charger) and doesent even charge. When tryong to boot it shows only the SONY logo, not even xperia(which comes right after sony).
Tried getting into flash mode or fastboot mode, but it is the same thing.
If i switch on my phone with no cable plugged it starts normally.
When this happened i had no battery at all. After searching the web i found a guide to open my phone and remove the battery connector. After removing it and plugging back again it started charging. Now it wont charge anymore that way.
EDIT: Mac wont recognize it anymore(mac bridge, flashtool, adb)
Does anyone have an idea?
Thanks!
A
Try flashing the phone with stock ftf file via flash tool , you can find plenty of how to videos for that on internet . Your phone will be fine I guess
Search "Your phone model " "version" "stock ftf" download and flash it

The problem is my phone wont stay in flash mode. It shows up the green led just for a sec and then tries too boot up normaly(green led turns red and shows sony logo) then it shuts down again...
Same for fastboot mode (blue led for 1 sec then again red).
Any idea?
Thanx in advance
@aserreqi
The disconnection issue is driver related. Use windows 7/xp (friends computer) install flashtool and then install the driver pack located in it. Then flash stock ftf.
Before this charge your phone overnight.

I had similar kind of issue , phones doesnt stay in flash mode when it should but I managed to get into fastboot mode , IT DID STAY THERE for me and I flashed some other kernel to make it work for few mins as I only wanted flashmode to work which it did . Try charging your phone for 2 hours and grab any kernel which is said to be fine with your phone , either ways you only need flashmode to work. If fastboot is also disconecting even after you have charged your phone umm DRIVERS DRIVERS !
Make sure you have all the drivers installed I always use flashtool, nothing else to flash

I have charged my phone now for 3 hours. The only way i get to charge now is discharging the battery to 0. I have to put it on charge(wall charger) pull off the connector of the battery and then put it again on.
If the phone is a little charged and i turn it on it wont charge any more. No charger or pc works.
I tried again the procedure of getting into fastboot or flash mode, but still nothing happens.
Green or blue led for a sec then tries to boot again.
I forgot to mention that the phone works like normal when not in charge, it boots normally and everything works fine...
P.S. the drivers are installed. I installed them again and again.
Thanx for your help anyway!!

First try volume up + power for about 15 seconds untill you feel (1+) 3 vibrations to turn it off.
Then try flashmode.

My S2 won't turn on

It turned off due to low battery, I plugged it in to charge, after 30' the screen flashed and showed "0% battery icon". Since then it won't turn on, it won't charge at all, I can't access download/recovery mode. Tried to jumpstart, nothing.
What can I do? What's the issue?
(tried another battery and another charger, still phone doesn't respond.)
Use USB Jig to go to download mod
then install the stock Rom

I don't have one but even if I did, I'm afraid it wouldn't work. It seems like it's a mobo issue.

Bricked Z2 after flashing a recovery

Hello,
I've bricked my phone after a TRWP recovery. I've tried the solution provided on the forum (wait until the battery dies, unplug the battery....). Nothing worked.
I've tried to connect my phone to the PC and it cannot be detected. I have flashing red light when first connected and after few seconds a constant red light that stay for 30 seconds and flashing red light again.
I've tried to use adb devices command and nothing shows up. On linux, I've did "lsusb" command and the phone didn't show up.
Is that my device definitively broken or there is still option that I didn't explore?
Thanks for your support
Once time this happened to me but with my Z1, after desperately search for a solution and read many tutorials, the only solution was reinstall all drivers and connect device to be repaired with Sony Pc Companion, but is necessary have some of battery, if you drained completely, then charge it at least 50%
This works for me, and maybe works now, as long you device led indicator works and Pc sounds when plug in USB, then there's hope.
As @BalamXDroidhe said, charge your phone, put it off and try the program Pc Companion or Xperia Companion, but DO NOT WAIT for the computer to recognize the phone, why still remains the operating system is not loaded.
Just go to repair the software and i believe that everything will be fine.

Thanks for the reply. I did try Sony companion. Unfortunatly this is not the software that is not recognizing the device, the computer itself don't shows any Z2 on USB port. Furthermore, I went to a repair shop and said that the battery is not charging at all. A mother board problem to his point of view.
I'm afraid that is not much to be done at this stage
If you have any suggestion....
Thanks
first of all you need to charge the battery or swap it with another one if the phone isn't charging it at all. then try to boot the phone in flash mode with flashtools in order to try to flash a new .ftf (use the guide below for flashtools).

This is the first step to do in a such situation.

Never wait until the battery dies, that is not wise at all.
How did you unplug the battery? You completely disassembled the device? That is not wise at all.
You should have simply pressed Vol up plus power for 3 seconds, that would have forced a power disconnect. It is that easy.
The 2 things you did are somewhere close to the worst things to do when your device has a problem.
You could try a charged battery from another device as said but you will likely physically damage the device when you open it. or simply leave on wall charger for a few hours and see if it can charge.
Ensure your USB cable is a "data" USB cable, not a cheapo charge only cable.
Even try another windows computer.
May I ask how did you brick your device? What did you do in recovery?

Hello,
I've had a problem while updating a custom ROM and I had to restart the rooting process from scratch. All went well (Kit kat install, rooting, TRWP install) until I've used a previous TRWP backup. Since then, only red light
Is there an hardware problem occured at the same time that I flashed the device... Very unlikly. My feeling is that the kernel is corrupted and don't allow the device to start the early stage boot and so no more charging and no connection possible. It's just a feeling.

What do you mean by "after a TWRP recovery"?
Your bootloader is locked or unlocked?
Use a wall charger to charge your phone.
Hello,
"Never wait until the battery dies, that is not wise at all." => I did not at a first, I've tried to flash with flash tool the stock rom with roughly 80% battery. The phone was already not detected by computer ( I tried Linux, Windows 8 and Windows 7 computer).
"How did you unplug the battery? You completely disassembled the device? That is not wise at all.
You should have simply pressed Vol up plus power for 3 seconds, that would have forced a power disconnect. It is that easy. "
=> I couldn't agree more that is not wise to disassemble the device, I've done it after I tried the Vol up+ power technique.
"The 2 things you did are somewhere close to the worst things to do when your device has a problem." => The next time...
"You could try a charged battery from another device as said but you will likely physically damage the device when you open it. or simply leave on wall charger for a few hours and see if it can charge." => No charge at all over night with genuine Sony charger and cable. I brought it to a repair shop and with a magnetic charger, not better.
Thanks for your reply.
"What do you mean by "after a TWRP recovery"?" => I've made a backup before flashing my custom rom, just in case. As I said, the rooting process went well until I launch the backup recovery.
"Your bootloader is locked or unlocked?" I'm afraid that is the step I've missed after flashing KitKat and rooting. Is that possible that locked bootloader can lead to that mess?
"Use a wall charger to charge your phone" => No charge, just blinking red light even with battery level at least 50%.
Thanks for your reply.
Same thing happened to me. My phone got bricked.
Its not androxide flashtool or sony companion
Use this.
Its official sony xperia flashtool.
Its called 'Emma'
http://developer.sonymobile.com/open-devices/flash-tool/
All process shared in link..
Good luck
Hello,
I also tried Emma without any success.
Thanks again
The exact same thing happened to me when i flashed a kernel, what i did, was just open xperia companion, click on repair software, and follow the instructions, connecting in flash mode and that stuff, and boila, brand new. i almost cried when that happened to me tho:crying:
it seems that you are using locked bootloader phone, and flashed custom kernel or twrp image, can you connect in fastbooot mood of in flash mood? (by pressing vol+ and connecting usb or vol- and connecting usb respectively),
