4g loading web pages faster than 3d - HTC EVO 3D

I went and tried the 3d again for 30 min yesterday. What is interesting is that on WIFI, the 4G loaded web pages faster than the 3d EVERY TIME. I loaded probably 10 pages at the same exact time on both. The 4G always won. Anyone else try this? Was it a fluke?

Huh?
Edit:
Oh wow I get it now... Your talking about the two different phones... Lol
I microwaved my EVO 4G so at this time I can't test. But I'm sure you have to manny variables for that test

There is a setting under WiFi to use best WiFi and its a lot faster
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App

Think that really depends on what wifi you were using. If you were at BB and everything was connected, its not going to be fast.

I can agree, seems like 4g loads web pages faster. At home on wifi im getting 21 down and 4 up pretty fast .. on 4g im getting around 7 to 9 and less then 1 up however 4g does load web pages faster on my 3d . Im not sure why but i do notice faster loading on 4g .

Both phones were on the same fast WIFI network.
This happened in two different locations with two different 4G and 3D phones by the way...
Someone else should try this and get back to us.
Also, what is this "best" wifi setting you speak of?

Go to WiFi set up. Hit menu then advanced. Then best WiFi ( says it will consume more power)
Sent from my HTC Evo 3D.

Menu...wireless....wifi...menu button...advanced...enable best wifi.
See if that helps
Edit. You beat me by a hair. Sorry
...adjusting to life without the trackball

Though it seems counterintuitive I think the fact that the 3D has more screen real estate to fill may come into play here.
I have both phones and have also noticed the same thing. Perhaps they have a different definition of a 'fully loaded' web page to compensate for that, or maybe it's the fact that they don't compensate for that.
I can't say that it has impeded my enjoyment of the 3D...that crappy aspect ratio and weaker 3G radio have done that all by themselves, and that's to say nothing of the status of the bootloader and sense.

daneurysm, since you have both phones there, have you tried with both on the "best" setting?
p.s. I also like the aspect ratio of the OG's screen better. Longer and more narrow does me little good...I do not watch movies on my phone.

Which is better for performance.......wifi on the phone or a downloaded app in the market for wifi like Barnacel???

Nexus S is faster over WIFI
All I know is I have the Nexus right here - there is no "best" setting on it and it is faster than either of the Evos on WIFI.

My E3D is faster than my 4G on my WiFi at home. My E3D loads web pages (and does everything) blazingly fast.
tapa tapa tapa

I ran some tests like this with my bros NS4G, an EVO4G, and my 3D. I think the OG EVO finished a tad bit faster about half the time .

This is reported on most sites (4G faster). I did about 30 3D vs 4G site loading tests and 4G was faster like 25 times.
I'm counting on radio updates to help with this (like it did the 4G...many times)

Yea if on WiFi you need to take the e3d off power save in WiFi settings..I believe that will be the difference here...also like Rocky said it will improve once they work out the bugs

I just watched several videos on youtube comparing the two, and the 3D was faster every time.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tiRwM_3WL00&feature=youtube_gdata_player
30test site download I did (on 3G) was identical to this.
Hey firmbiz...you mean 'best WIFi' setting right?...there's no power save setting in WiFi setting that I see...

Dual core htc lte phones on the horizon?

The reason I ask is that I love my phone but im wondering if I should take it back and wait for a dual core for battery life reasons. I only want htc because I have had Moro and blur sucks. Plus moto seems much more crippled so to speak. I know that the ego 3d is just a couple of months off so was wondering if something might be prtletty close behind for verizon, and I font care about the 3d nonsense, I just want a disk core because I assume that it will be more battery effecient. Please feel free to correct my inaccuracies, because I do love my phone, but the battery does leave a little to be desired along with the retarded micro usb placement. That is my only two gripes with the phone. Thanks for any siggestions.

By the time a dual core LTE phone is released by HTC, unlimited data plans will be gone.
I disabled the lock screen and turn the GPS off when not needed and my battery life has improved dramatically... worth a shot?
I think everyone's eyes are too big for their stomach. It will be a while before a dual core phone will come out, where android is optimized to use it, and apps take advantage of it. Seriously, buy the time my upgrade rolls around in January 2012, it might be there. In the meantime, lovin my TB on 4g.

So the next 4G phone for Verizon, which will be a motorola phone, the bionic will be a dual core LTE phone. Not HTC but will be dual core. The main reason I think the thunderbolt isn't is that there is some kind of delay in the dual core snapdragon processors from what I heard. But I agree the biggest benefit of jumping on the thunderbolt, which a really decent phone, is to get on 4G especially while it's still unlimited.
If bat life is already bad on a single core I can't even imagine on a dual core
It wouldn't be near as bad if HTC didn't try to put the smallest capacity battery they could find in there. That said, I've had no issue getting through the day. I'm connected to wifi all day at home and work and won't have LTE in my area until later this year.

You say that, but the phone is already a beast even with just a 1400mah battery. Can you imagine how bulky the thing would be with a 2000? And if the phone is only getting 6 hours per charge now, adding another 600mah woth of battery capacity would only give you about 3 more hours. It wouldn't be worth it to me.
The problem is not the battery capacity. The problem is that 4g radio on a very limitted 4g network. So it is constantly searching for a good 4g signal. The same thing happens to me everyday at work, because the 3g at my work sux. So my phone searches all day, and uses the battery up quick. But on the weekends when I am not at work, my battery lasts much longer.
We need to be turning the 4G radio off when we are going to be in a non-4G area for an extended amount of time. And then turn it back on again later when we leave that 4g dead-zone. That would make a big difference in battery life.
Or if they could make the radio more effecient, like instead of constantly searching for a signal, maybe if there is no signal, don't search again for another 15 minutes.

Dual cores are usually more power efficient as each core is running at a lower clock speed from what I have read. There are some other specifics that I cannot recollect at this point.
So just a random semi relevant question. If the EVO 3d is cdma & LTE as is rumored what would keep that phone from running on Verizon?

Seems gimmicky to me. I don't understand why any one would want this in a phone. But to each their own. Anyway, I just wish we had DC for battery life, I could careless about benchmarks, etc. The 1Ghz does more than I need it to, but I would like it to be a little bit easier on this juice.
I am considering the TB coming from a Windows HTC Imagio and just think it sucks that I would have to spend time shutting things down then bringing them back up just to save batt. life!! I haven't yet experienced an Android and just not ready to learn a new phone. Just getting sick of windows. Nothing out there for them.
BTW. Is there anyway to get Windows Media Player on the TB? I have never liked the Sense music player. You cant play an album from start to finish. At least I cant on my Imagio

I get better battery life on my Thunderbolt than my Droid. So, this battery life thing isn't a universal problem. It has to do with 4G switching. Trying to connect to weak 4G signal and dropping back to 3G often is killing battery life. There isn't LTE where I live so I get great battery life.
Just look for some media player apps on the market. That's what I did. I think I use car tunes, but I would have to get my phone and confirm.

Slower browser than EVO?!?

I checked out these videos on youtube comparing the browser speeds on the EVO3D to the EVO4G--stock, nonetheless, and the EVO 4G loads up pages quicker than the 3D does! I'm surprised and dissapointed. Coming from a hero though, I obviously won't go back, but it makes me ask myself if I had an OG EVO, if the upgrade would even be worth it? It kind of baffles me
Check out this guys youtube to see what I'm talking about, specificially, this video goes into the best detail.
It had to be something with the connection they were using (3G, 4G, wifi?). I can't watch the video where i'm at right now, but my Evo 3D DESTROYS my Samsung Epic in page loads, and I know the Epic is either on par or faster than the Evo 4G.

Yeah, that was my thoughts too. But he said he was using the same Wi-Fi connection, and you can see the Wi-Fi logo being displayed in the notification bar. I highly doubt he rigged it cause he still said he would rather have the E3D
Alas this has proven to be absolutely true here in Chicago.
Average 3G speedtests were 1200kbps with 4G.... They're half that now.
Engadget readable text would display in under 8sec.... Over 15 with 3D.
Who knows why. Sigh.
4G is over rated. I have the Verizon PRLs on my Evo and it runs faster than any 4G in my area.
This is not my experence at all. Evo3d is faster and smoother.

I don't use stock browser until it gets a major upgrade. It is one aspect of Android that continues to be neglected of love. Dolphin HD destroys stock browser. Loads just as fast as my laptop and PC internet explorer, and Firefox.
I find my stock browser blazingly fast, even on 3G.
Currently i'm using whatever stock browser MIUI has and it's even faster than stock rom's browser, I don't know why you're having speed issues with the 3D's browser though.
Ok, i have a logical explanation
Note: I'm assuming that that Evo 3D is stock, so the second core isn't on at all.
So we can assume that the internet speed is the same because there on the same wifi connection. So, what i think this comes down to is the CPU and Screen resolution. The two CPU's are not the same and therefore not 100% comparable, but for the sake of argument lets just assume there pretty close. Now, the Evo 3D has a QHD display which has about 35% more pixels than the Evo 4G. And since the clock speed is only 20% higher on the 3D that could explain why the pages take a little longer to render on the 3D.
However, truthfully I think there something a little screwed up about our data speeds on the 3D because I remember reading that the 3rd Gen snapdragons were about 15-25% faster per instruction (per core) making my argument almost invalid
what do you guys think about this?
Even without use of the always on dual core mod, the second core still kicks in when needed. Even without using the second core, the 3d will still outperform the 4G. There is no logical explanation for the OPs findings other than somehow the WiFi signal strength isn't the same for each device.

This phone is lagging all the way

Lag when browsing, waiting on everything to load, pinch to zoom is not smooth but choppy, hitting a text field requires me to wait 2 seconds before the keyboard comes up...
i need to wait bloody everywhere?
is there something that can fix this?
i already installed a faster rom and im rooted.

iOS is just a simpler and more clean operating system. My EVO 3D is also laggy, disappointing for a dual core processor. I usually tether and use my iPod touch which surprisingly runs faster and smoother than my EVO 3D. And yes I am running custom ROM's and overclocked and nothing is more laggy than web browsing, even on WiFi. Scrolling is so choppy... I am not a fanboy of either operating system. I like things about both OS and both need things improved on, but for now iOS just seems to run better in terms of CPU optimization.

Im pretty sure a EVO 3D has more things going on in it that any iphone, hence it not being "super fast". I just think you should know how to troubleshoot your phone at least if you are gonna have a Android. And are you getting the laggyness after a fresh ROM flash? Or are you throwing about 1231231423 apps in there and expecting it to not slow down? Give us more input so we can help you
Why do people get so offended why they point out a possible flaw with their phone and suggest an alternative? Isn't that how great things are created? Some people act like you just smacked their first born child in the face. Get over yourselves, its a phone. Most people that talk bad about iOS usually have never used any apple product and are just jumping on the Android v Apple bandwagon. I love Android, and I also love Apple. I am not a close-minded idiot that can't think for his own so I decide to be on one side of the fence on this whole apple v android issue. Again, I love android, but apple has figured out how to make more, with less power and in my personal opinion, is still slightly superior.
yea people get real butt hurt. but i dont bother commenting about that.
this article explains it pretty good

No what we are telling you is that we are all running an Evo 3d and do not have the described lag. If you apply LOGIC you should not have lag either unless something is different i.e. your teeny brain. Your iPhone will get better reception if you drop it in a toilet preferably one with a fresh double S in it.

have to totally agree. been loving this phone as is. did install a custom launcher (go Launcher ex) and go sms but that is just because i like those apps alot. the battery life is just great the speed is amazing. and the phone just rocks tegra 2 like no other phone on sprint rocks dual core period. you won't be sorry.
i came from a evo shift too. i loved that little phone but this phone smokes it
I couldnt agree with the above more! This is my first Android and what a phone to have! I work for Sprint in a Service and Repair location and I RARELY see Photons come into my location. There were a few from the last OTA update (some could dl it but it wouldnt install) but other then the occasional setting mis-cue, the phone kicks butt!!! Build quality is solid, external speaker is incredibly loud and crisp sounding, and overall call quality, signal strength, and performance is top notch. You will not miss the Shift at all!!
I had mine for about a month coming from an original evo 4g. I love this phone..
Where do I begin?!! You dont have to take the battery out and turn the phone off just to take the memory card out. and it is very fast. Games on it look amazing. Console quality. HDMI mirror is incredible. You can play Tegra 2 games on an HD display if you dont want to play on just the little phone screen. I make all my friends jealous.

Chrome on the iPhone vs. Chrome on the Rezound

I've been using an iPhone 4 (not 4S) for the last few days, and while there's very little I like about it, I've got to say, I'm incredibly disappointed that Chrome on iOS using 3G loads heavy pages faster than my Rezound on LTE. The rendering is just that much faster--it appears the bottleneck really isn't bandwidth, but GPU? Even with ICS, which was supposed to improve hardware acceleration.
Frustrating.

True. Apple has tons of tricks it uses to make things seem faster on the iphone.
example: opening apps first shows a screenshot of when it last was used, it doesn't load that fast. if you move fast enough you can notice its stuck/laggy even though it seems it loaded instantly.

So, somewhat curiously, it's much more equal on wifi, which makes me curious about LTE. And I did notice that iOS Chrome seems to get stuck occasionally loading ads, where AdFree Android ensures they never load on my Rezound.
On mobile websites the Rezound seemed much quicker, on full-content sites the iPhone seemed to have a bit of an advantage still. But not nearly as big a one as on mobile data.

I just did a side by side test with my Rezound running Chrome vs a friend's iPhone 4 (no S) running its stock browser, and the Rezound absolutely trounced the iPhone in page loading speed, but the iPhone pretty much destroyed the Rezound in scrolling speed and responsiveness...
Honestly, Chrome has had some weird issues on my phone. Even though it just came out of "beta", it still seems very buggy on my phone...
I'll have to see if he doesn't mind downloading Chrome so I can do a direct comparison of the two phones with the same browser, but given that Chrome has some problems on my phone, I'm sure Chrome on iOS will give me a hard time...

Just because you can do it doesn't mean it isn't for other people. I have maybe 50+ bookmarks. I like being able to 1 click and open folders of bookmarks rather than typing every website in the folder one by one.
