For a those running SGS2 on T-Mobile, is it possible to get their wifi calling feature installed?

No. People with other T-Mobile Android phones couldn't do it or had to make bizarre changes to their rooted phones in order to get it half-working. It's deeply imbedded in to the phone OS. Use Skype or one of the other VoIP solutions in the marketplace.

Thanks for the quick response. Bummer. The prob with Skype is that it isn't free calling like with the Tmo app.
Will look into the alternatives or just wait it out when TMo releases an official Samsung SG2 equivalent.

In my 5 minute read up on this, it "should" work similar to the wifi calling app, correct?
Do you know of anyone confirming iWLAN is working for them?

anyone have success with iWlan?
has anyone tried it? did it work? Tmo now has a new stock rom out for the SGH-T989 that is supposed to have Tmo WiFi calling on it, but am afraid i will lose root if i flash it. Anyone try the tmo stock? can i get root back on it?

If you search there is already a 2.3.6 root if you update via kies software.. Yes, you will lose root to update to the 2.3.6, but you can unroot it again via odin..

Orange UK have a wifi app for the S2, it only works on Orange here in the UK as it has to be enabled on the network side. Here's a link with instructions on how to get it working

Not sure if it'll be off any help or not.

AT&T Hotspot connect

I bought an unlocked Streak and the one thing I miss is the ability to connect easily to AT&T WiFi hotspots. AT&T branded phones have apps included to do this. Can those be installed on the unlocked versions of the Streak? Does anyone know which ones you would need?

I went round and round with Dell, AT&T Mobility and AT&T WiFi - everyone blamed the other guy. Finally after about a month of frustrating calls to each of their support groups, I was pretty much told - cannot be done, the correct app is not now and probably will never be available to put on the Streak. AT&T WiFi support did finally agree that if you are at an AT&T hotspot that does not have free access like you would find at a McDonalds for example, call their support number, give them your AT&T mobile number and they will give you a temp password - best they would do.
Thanks for the reply.
I had not called yet and wondered if anyone had tried using the app from the locked phone OR if there was a solution from AT&T. I may call because it is supposed to be included if you are an AT&T subscriber, so you should be able to get a permanent PW, the same as if you had home internet with them.
It was something I did use from time to time.
I had never used the ATT hotspot app since I never left the factory ATT bloatware on any of my phones. With all my Windoze phones I almost never used wifi anyway since it was such a battery hog. On the Streak, it is a different story and I'd be really interested if anyone does come up with an apk or another solution to get that app on the Streak.

So the At&t Hotspot app on the Aria is just a hotspot locator. It does nothing but link you to http://attwifi.know-where.com/attwifiw/

It isn't in the ATT-specific section of the market either. I went through that one-by-one today.

I'm on 2.2 (its in my signature)
On the left hand side of the market page if you are holding it in landscape, down at the bottom, there are three icons. If it is in portrait, they are at the bottom of the green field. From left to right they read "apps" "games" and "at&t". If you click on the at&t one, there is a bunch of AT&T junk that I recognized from my ATT Windoze phones.
FWIW, if my phone isn't on the network, the ATT one changes to, I think, my apps.
The AT&T specific section of the market will show up on phones locked to AT&T. On my unlocked Streak I see My Apps where the AT&T link is on my Flipside.
Regarding the apks from another AT&T phone: how likely is it that the ones from A different model phone will work? and which would you need? Is it just an app or is there more to it?
The only apk that is clearly related to the AT&T hotspots on the Flipside is named AttHotSpotLocator.apk. It is simply an app to search for hotspot locations.
On phones with the built in capability to connect to the AT&T hotspots there is an extra setting to auto-connect to an AT&T wireless hotspot. It seems there is more to this than just an app.

Us Streakers need a super-geek android programmer type to figure this out for us. Unbelievable that with an unlimited data plan from AT&T they make it so hard to log into their hotspots just because we don't own the "right" phone in their opinion.

I don't think Android is supported yet. iPhone, bb and even WinMo is though. Even the ATRIX "4G" (yeah right) only supports att Hotspots via Tethering...which you can do with pretty much ANY att phone.

[Q] One X+ tethering block by AT&T

Hi Guys. I posted in the HTC One X (non +) and then noticed this separate forum. Sorry for the repeat.
My company just gave me an HTC One X+ from AT&T since I didnt want an iPhone. Seems like a good device but I did run into one snag.
My previous phone was a Galaxy S2 but was having major battery drain issues with Exchange Server so I thought I would try a different manufacture and keep my fingers crossed. The snag is this: with my SGS2 I was able to use FoxFi (and others) for WiFi tethering/hotspot and it worked great even bone-stock. With the HOX+ it seems At&t has gotten a little smarter and can detect when a program is trying to hotspot and I get taht message saying to call them if I want it enabled when I start FoxFi.
I have the paid version of clockworkmod and that will not work at all - says failed to connect when I hit start in Windows 7. I also have the paid version of PDAnet and that kind of works but the connection get dropped pretty regularly making it unreliable. Not sure if this has anything to do with Att's detections since they did gave me some trouble with the SGS2 as well (not exactly same though).
My question is this: can I get FoxFi to work WITHOUT root? Since it is brand new and not mine technically I hate to start hacking the thing up so quickly. But the tethering is a function I really like.
Thanks
Ernie
My phone is rooted, FoxFi and PDAnet didn't work..
I'm using this one :

More info: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2074798
I'm notl 100% sure but i dont think you'll be able to get what you want without being rooted. I'm surprised you had such good luck with the GS2 if it was on att and not rooted. Previous poster did suggest a great tool, been using it for years... But have to be rooted to do so
I don't believe you can actually get WiFi tethering on your phone without paying the extra amount from AT&T if you don't have your phone rooted. I have mine rooted and the hotspot feature works great!
Thanks guys. Thats what I figured. Guess I will have to just do it.
Ya, go figure about the S2. Guess I got lucky with that one.

I just got my HTC One x plus, and I am using PDAnet (free version), and I am able to tether via USB, with no issues. I have been able to do skype calls with no issues at all, browsing the web is fine as well. Tethering via wi-fi is the challenge, I have not been able to find anything that will allow me to do this. I use AT&T and my device is un-rooted.

PDANet works for me but seems to drop me at randomly. Not sure if it has to do with the ATT block.
So does Att have the ability to detect teathering - rooted or unrooted?

with wi-fi and un-rooted, it seems they detect, with USB un-rooted they don't, at least, this is what happens on my end.

Galaxy s9 plus u965u1

I have read through many threads and I cannot find a direct answer. As it is stated in the title I have the Galaxy unlocked s9+that I bought from Samsung. I am currently on AT & T network because T-Mobile is terrible here in North Carolina where I am currently living. Can I flash ATT firmware on this unlocked version of the S9 plus and use Wi-Fi calling and volte? If there is a definite yes to this question then I will try to find the ATT firmware the flash on this phone.

The answer is yes.
The firmware can be found pretty easy by looking in the forums or by looking on sammobile.com
Also, make sure you are flashing the same version of firmware. So if your device last digits are ARF4, then you want to flash the ARF4 AT&T firmware.
I have a question for this unlocked version from samsung.com. i I use it with Tmobile is the wifi calling, Volte, will work out of the box? or i have to do the same thing as flashing tmobile firmware? and also if I flash do i have to root? TIA. and also if there is already a thread for this question kindly post the link.

Since this is an unlocked phone not purchased from ATT, WiFi calling and other features wont work even on a regular post pay account. I had to call ATT and give them my IMEI from my previous ATT branded s8+ before wifi calling and smart caller ID and other features would work. I told them it was an ATT phone that i purchased at Best Buy and i read about WiFi calling problem in a forum and that using a different IMEI worked for others. The tech said it's worth a try and she changed it and ive been good to go ever since. I fumbled around the question of "is this an unlocked phone?" i said no, it has ATT logo (it does at boot, but not on the back lol) and i purchased it for ATT. That was good enough for them.
Many others with unlocked U1 phones have done the same thing and ATT has changed IMEI on their side. It doesnt change your phones physical IMEI, just their end. I saw a post where one operator said they wouldnt or couldnt do that. If they tell you no, call back you'll likely get a different person and they might change it. Main thing is you have to have an IMEI from an ATT branded phone that supports the same features (s8,s7,s6, etc) Luckily for me i have a like new s8+. It's worth much more than what they offer for trade in so i kept it. Glad i did.
Yes, I saw those posts as well but currently I do not have an ATT branded phone. So, I went and put the unlocked firmware back on the phone and I will just keep it the way it is. If the new iPhone that is coming out has the T-Mobile band 71, I probably will jump back to the iPhone. This was my first Android in about 4 years. I am kind of disappointed that it won't work.

Yes, and Secure Wi-Fi has now been added. I think it previously existed only on the European firmwares. Now we get it, too.
Any way to see if AT&T Wifi Calling will work as I do not see the option in Settings? I have US Unlocked GS9 on AT&T
If I flash this U1 for my ATT phone (running full Tmobile firmware now),
will I have Wifi calling with Tmobile? Or Wifi calling only works with Verizon with U1

Despite what the websites like to post, there really isn't a VZW U1 and an ATT U1. There's just XAA U1. You'll get Wi-Fi Calling on every carrier with it now, except for ATT.

Reading up on it (short summary) this is because AT&T uses a database of IMEI numbers to provision WiFi calling and VoLTE. Since our IMEI numbers from our phones are not in that database we won't be able to use WiFi calling or VoLTE.
Makes sense but is ridiculous for AT&T to restrict it. Has anyone ever called to ask to have thier Unlocked IMEI added to this "list" so that these features will work? Seems like it is a disadvantage for AT&T if it works for TMo and now Verizon but not AT&T...?
Just curious...

It's odd for sure. Verizon has always had VoLTE on unlocked too. At least since the S7. Probably before that. ATT has never felt the need to change the policy.

Who can say if it's disadvantageous or not, for all we know it might be the technology differences between the networks. Also it does make sense... having specific IMEI numbers known to connect to carrier specific services like wifi calling and VoLTE ensures that everything works. It doesn't make it convenient for us and I will admit it would be nice to have the features.. but for calling via wifi there are options.
Personally I use pbx in a flash and bria softphone. With the right VoIP provider it's a good setup and doesn't break the bank at all. I haven't even spent more then 5 bucks maybe in a month. For me this is better then wifi calling and I don't have any problems.
As for adding our IMEI to that database I tried inquiring about it, but I do recall reading where some people may have had luck in doing this. I suspect it may require a bit of luck and/or perserveriance after my last discussion with AT&T customer service.
I explained the situation and what needed to be done while being placed on hold a few times. As the call continued I tried to be patient with the person I spoke too, but I admit it is not easy when he is saying that just because I see H data speed that it's actually VoLTE. When I mentioned the speed test and how it was H data speed (and that H data speeds are not VoLTE) he was saying that H data speeds were like blazing fast compared to LTE..
I had to politely finish the call before I either started to laugh or feel sorry for that rep.

In my case I tried to be patient with the person I spoke too. The only thing I've seen some people do successfully to get VoLTE working on an unbranded unlocked device is to have AT&T provision a SIM card to an IMEI of a phone that is AT&T branded and capable of VoLTE. Then use that SIM card on the unbranded unlocked device.

No problem. You're not the first person to look for it in the wrong place. U1 builds always place the setting there. So they stayed consistent doing it this way.

I recently purchased this phone unlocked through best buy. How/where can I download Verizon firmware to utilize wifi calling? Google, Verizon and Motorola have ran me on circles trying to solve this.
Bestbuy sells both the unlocked version and the Verizon version. Obviously the Verizon version would work with wifi calling, but what about the unlocked version?

I have the unlocked version and it doesn't come with Wi-Fi calling. It runs only the android 10 software and Google apps for the messages and phone. I found a setting for wifi messages (though I've been having trouble sending and receiving) but no setting in the phone app or the device settings.
I'm hoping if I can find the Verizon firmware to download and enable wifi calling.

Check under the advanced settings in the mobile network settings. If it's not there, then Verizon might be blocking it. Cricket does the same thing, but they'll sometimes enable it for you if you ask nicely.

I have checked under those settings and there is nothing listed as Wi-Fi calling. On VPN and Private DNA.
Would you be able to give a screen shot or write out what you click on to see where out phones differ? Baffling why my phone doesn't not have that option and Verizon has been no help in figuring it out.
I bought a g power phone for my son from Google fi, but activated it on Verizon. It works on verizon's network with a verizon sim. I havent been able to make wifi calling work, any suggestions? Looked in advanced setting under mobile connections no wifi calling choices. Any help would be greatly appreciated
I do not have this phone but i used unlocked phones (3 different ones) on Verizon. Currently a razer 2 on Verizon. If you do not buy a carrier locked phone from them you can not have wifi calling. That is one perk of buying the phone from them. They will let you have volte but thats about it. , No visual voicemail either.
I understand this might be a dumb question, but why is WiFi calling so important? I would have thought most people would use Hangouts, Zoom, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, or Duo. Any of those effectively provide WiFi calling.

WiFi calling is very handy if you use your phone in places where you might not have reliable cell coverage but do have WiFi (e.g., a basement, etc.). I've never tried it, but that might include an international location where you can't use cell but have access to WiFi.
My carrier is Sprint, and I can verify that the WiFi calling function is present under Settings, Network & Internet, Mobile Network, Advanced, and nestled under "Calling"

I'm in the process to switch to visible. Did you just put the sim and good to go? Or you need to add some extra APN to work?

On the G Power, yes , for whatever reason it works right away without messing with apns. Literally everything works. Other phones though you do have to add apns and mess about.

Do you think I need to factory reset my phone and then insert the new visible sim card? I currently I'm using at&t. Or doesn't matter. Did you place the visible sim on a brand new phone or switch from a previous carrier?

It was in a brand new phone yes, but no I don't think it matters. Should be good to go. If anything just restart the phone.
It's also my understanding that Verizon does not allow any Advanced Calling features on a carrier unlocked phone. With my last phone, however (Z4), I was able to flash the VZW image to enable those features on my unlocked phone: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...ng-and-root-with-xt1980-3-on-verizon.3994025/
I just tried a similar process with the Moto G Power. I have a XT2041-4, which I have bootloader unlocked. I then downloaded the VZW rom from lolinet: https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/moto/sofia/official/VZW/
and patched the boot.img using Magisk. I then followed this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/moto-g-power-flashing-guide.4159301/
to flash the VZW image (XT2041-7) onto my XT2041-4 (including the patched boot.img). Fingers crossed.... And bootloop. So I recovered to RETUS via LMSA. But I haven't given up hope yet. Maybe someone else can chime in.
Got it working...
HD and WiFi Voice and Video Calling on XT2041-4 with Verizon
Prerequisites: You must bootloader unlock your XT2041-4. https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a As far as I'm aware, this only applies to XT2041-4 on Verizon Wireless. To be clear, the XT2041-4...
