My PC do not recognise when FLYER plugged in - HTC Flyer, EVO View 4G

I already had 11 HTCs and this is the fisrt time I am having this problem
When I have my Flyer in plugged into my computer , the computer will NOT recognise that I plugged Flyer in. Normally it should make a sound and start to install it.
But the thing is my PC will not even recognise the Flyer is plugged in, no sounds, no installing. However the Flyer will start charging......
This has never happened to me before
I have the latest version of HTC sync and my PC easily recognises my other HTCs.
Anybody have an idea why ?
Since Flyer has a different cable plug, I do not have any other cables to try it with........

did you switch from charge only to disk drive or htc sync from the status bar? if not, pull down your status bar and click on "charge only", then mount it or sync it and hit done. it should then recognize it. hope this helps.

I told you , this is my 11th HTC , I tried all these methods, I am looking for something irregular, extraordinary which I didn`t try .
The only two options I have now are :
1) Buy a new HTC data cable (which I can not get hold off very easily)
2) Hard reset the FLYER
I am looking for another idea before I hard reset this Flyer

Anybody knows how to bring thisCONNECTION TYPE screen up on my FLYER , without plugging cable into USB of the computer.

Should be in the Settings page under "Connect To PC"

nope . the settings there but this screen normally comes on when I plug it in to my PC , I want to bring this screen up without the USB plug in

it might be sounds crazy, but have you try shifting your cable into another USB port? I had the same problem in the past, and I solved shifting the front USB into a back USB port. for me it helps.....you can give a try!

Pull up your Control Panel, go to Device Manager and check to see if it is being recognized in the device list
If it is not, then there is your problem....if it is, then have to try something else...

I understand you mentioned that, but the same thing happened with my Inc2 when I got it, nothing was recognized, no sounds, nothing show in My Computer but I could find an instance in the device manager of something no coming in correctly. That is why I asked if you had looked there as well...my apologies

No problem
It`s very strange .
Although it is connected and charging, my computer will NOT recognise it.
I am thinking that a Hard Reset will solve the problem. If I had another cable I could try replacing the cable but the Flyer is new and no cables around so easily ....
I think a Hard Reset is the next step , but now I must copy the data of the Internal storage of Flyer into my SD Card.

Have you checked the HTC support website.
An updated version of Sync has been posted specifically for the Flyer.
It looks as if a driver was at fault.

Yes I did ofcourse
My problem is that my PC will not recognise if an USB device attached or not , normally it should say "A New Device inserted" , it is not even saying this ...
But my PC , it works with my all other devices !!!
Strange .......

sorry can´t help, but just one funny thing here:
i´m not able to connect/sync my old wizard and rhodium on windows xp and win7(but they are charging), my flyer is connecting without problems...
steph

Now I will hard reset and let`s see what happens !!!

I know I should get ready for a "yes I already tried that" response, but have you tried any of your other HTC cables on the Flyer? It will sync and charge (just slower charging) with any Micro USB cable.

Well i tried the cables of my Sensation, Incredible S and DHD (actually they are all the same) and these cables do not fit in the Flyer's socket.
I have already ordered a new Flyer cable and will be here in the morning
But I never thought of trying a regular micro usb cable as I thought the socket of the micro usb wouldn't fit either.

Yup, a standard micro usb fits fine, just a tad difficult to figure out. The wider part of the micro connector goes toward the back of the flyer and the narrower side towards the screen. It definietly does not have the proper snug feel of the included tabbed cable, but it does work. I use one at work to transfer files to the Flyer.

Have you try with another computer?

It's nice that it's a small one, but every USB device will work
I didn't have any, but have an USB Harddisk (IDE).
I attached a DVD player to the IDE connection for the harddisk and it worked.
I'm not using this everytime, but only used it for installation of SP1 and Office 2007 Enterprise.
Now my HD is putted back in his case

I have a similar one, that is LG GSA-E50L and it does not work properly...nothing helps, even SP1 could not make it work. The device works excellently in my laptop/xp Media Center so it seems it is the problem of Vista...Who knows what to do?

Are you using external power, or just the usb to power ?
Don't know that drive, i use a plextor, and it needs external power with the shift, or a usb power source pluged in the mini usb plug of the 3 port usb hub/lan device.

Cause the manual says it does not need any additional power plugs I used the equiped USB data cable (USB-mini USB) only. Another option suggested by the manufacturer that i used is USB data cable and DC-JackType USB power cable together that were pluged into 3 port USB hub from HTC...what exact model of the Plextor drive do you have, maybe i would buy one instead my LG...
my plextor is a PX-608CU
It dosnt need external power running on a laptop but i does when running on the shift,
On this drive there is 2 usb cabels, 1 power/data cable and one additional usb power cable.
even if i use both in the shift hub the is not enough power to use the drive unless i either use a miniusb powersupply to power the hub, or use external power to power the drive. (so the shift usbhub does not have that much juice in thats also why they made the powerplug in the hub)
Thank U Master !!!

It really is as you said; i would not have guessed that since the manual says it doesn't need additional source of power, but of course it does not refer to HTC Shift...so i really am grateful and i should also say sorry to MS for supposing some Vista bugs...

I bought a slim wee LG DVD reader/writer, and also found that I had to use the USB power cable for the Shift to mount disks.
Question for the community: Windows Media Player refuses to play DVDs and pops up this error:
Windows Media Player cannot play DVD video. You might need to adjust your Windows display settings. Open display settings in Control Panel, and then try lowering your screen resolution and color quality settings.
Any suggestions for getting a disk to play without having to rip it first? Thanks!
Does anyone know of a slimline DVD player (not bothered about writer) that works with the Shift and will playback DVDs powered by the USB port only?
HTC Shift doesnt provide enough USB power for external USB devices!
Hi i use the following external DVD writer with my Shift ...
http://www.lacie.com/products/product.htm?pid=10986
The product is excellant and also has light scribe ... but let me assure u that though it works with a few laptops without external power, it doesnt work with shift. i have tried it without external power and though it's lights coome one and it spins also nothing is read... so u have to use an external power adapter with HTC shift if u wanna use an external dvd writer!
Realy portable printer, I would say Brother MW-140BT or MW-260 those are realy portable. Anyway either of them are too expensive.
I am using the old good Canon BJC-50 portable printer connected through the Delock USB Infrared adapter Ref. 61574.

HELP NEEDED - Problem: Mini-USB Port Fried???

Hi. Hoping someone can help me out here - I seem to have "Fried" my mini-usb port on my Touch Dual?
I had connected my Dual to my Vista PC in order to flash the latest Mary Rom - it started to charge the battery but hadn't picked up the device in Windows Mobile Device Manager (as happens some times?) - when I started the CustomRUU I of course got a connection error and this is when the port seems to have "died"???
The Dual now no longer charges - either from the main power supply or from PC or Laptop and I get the error message "USB Device has exceeded the power limits of its USB port" when I plug it into an XP Laptop?
I'm hoping that this is not a permanent "hardware" issue and that someone has had the same problem before and has a solution?
I have tried: Soft Reset, Hard Reset, Removing the battery, Changing the battery, changing the software settings for the usb port?
Help.....?????
So its been a few months now since my Dual died - I've just found it in the bottom of a drawer in my office and its reminded me to take a look and see if anyone else has had this problem so I thought I'd refresh the thread....
Any (ANY) advice would be great - I cant return it to HTC as its stuck with a custom ROM loaded and I cant connect the USB (obviously) to change it back to a shipped rom......
Is there any way to flash an original rom from a memory card?
Help......?????
.
that sounds bad...but i don't have the solution... sorry...

but your battery should be very discharged now right?^^
i think my mini usb is on its way out
it keeps loosing activesync connection and i have to wiggle the lead etc.. does anyone else have this problem?
I am new here, but i am an electronics technician who has had a similar problem with my NEON 200. Seems that PC USB Ports can only supply 5VDC @ 500mA max and the NEON power pack is 5VDC @ 1A. I continually charged off my PC and Laptop when i could not find my mains pack - i think this eventually killed my phone or battery as now it just does not charge and i cannot turn on the radios. I did however measure the volts on the battery to be correct, and i did briefly get the device operational again (without the battery warning then turning itself off) for long enough to get a new ROM on the phone hoping this would fix it. FAIL! I have the same problem again... I hear there is a fuse on these that could be open cct, so i am going to look into that now. Hope some of this helps.
BTW - i hard reset the thing about 50 times (hoping the vibrate on start up would run the battery out) and this is how i got the thing working again the first time (before the ROM update).
Cheers,
Matt.
i need more infos ... what have you done befor you get this error?
flash new radio? or OS? or what ever?
This just happened to me too...
You can try to solder the contacts from the usb Plug in Phone. Have done this on a friends nike and this solved the problem.
Be carefull and don't overheat the board...
So you think its just a loose usb port?
I dont know, the pc usb host was shutting down everything on connect...
But Ill try...
that sucks twolf
i wish you good luck
Ok, went into a indian repair shop here and its fixed...35€
I was worried there for a while, the guy couldnt fully talk any language I tried.
But is working fine.
Have you seen what he did with your nike? Or had he told you what he have done?
As far as I know he just replaced the usb port, but I barely understood what he said.
It must have been that because he only had 3 hours with the device and there where other devices in line to be repaired as well.
im glad you got it fixed
did he replace it with an ExtUSB port? will headphones still work?
Hmm... its a normal port, looks like the old one.
I never used the headphones, dont even know where they are, I have a Motorola S9...

Can i use a regular mini USB to update my G!?

Hi I lost my G1 cable and I wanted to know if I could use a regular mini USB to update my G1 without having issues?
Yes, you can.
Make sure the miniusb cable you are using has a ferrite core/bead on it. Some folks with poorly shielded computer innards have experienced data corruption on cables without ferrites. If your miniusb cable doesn't have one, look around the house for a computer cable with a core that you can remove.

You can remove those things? I thought they were attached to the wire. I've just been using random junky usb cables with no beads on 'em and I haven't had any problems. I just checked the cord that came with the G1 and that doesn't even have a bead on it.
yeah hes saying, some people, so more often than not you dont need one, its for people who like to be extra safe especially if they end up bricking the device from corrupted data.
one thing that i have heard is that adb will not work if you are using a regular cable, there are a few extra wires and connectors in the usb cable for the G1, it is also a different shape than that of a regular mini usb connector. but for daily use, or just moviing files you shouldn't have any problems
Err, I have several mini USB's, I usually randomly grab one when I work with my G1, I have never had a problem with using ABD or any other type of problem. Also, I'm 99% positive the stock USB cable is no different then any other cable.

and i am 100% positive it is different from 99% of other mini USB cables. look at the input for the cable on your g1 and compare it to the mini USB port on anything else you have laying around your house and you will notice there is a difference

Yes, The input is strange, The HTC Shadow is the exact same way. Do realize, the stock USB's "Head", the metal pin, is not the perfect match for the slot on the Dream, it's a basic mini USB. Although, The included stock headphone/ear piece's connector, does in fact fit the input in the exact manor.
I think it's just the "head shape" that is different. I hvn't had any problems with other USBs.
Yes, currently I am using a Blackberry USB cable, and ADB and all functions work properly. In the past, I've used the original G1 cable, one for a Canon digital camera and one for an HTC Vogue, ADB works for all of them. Most of all, USB stands for Universal Serial Bus.. so I assume they are all the same.

It's an ExtUSB port, which is a HTC variant of the mini usb plug that has additional pins for audio. However the usb data lines are physically and electrically identical to standard usb, so for all intents and purposes unless you are using a special ExtUSB headset, it is plain mini usb. The supplied cable is a standard mini usb, so any other mini usb cable will work. Do heed my earlier warning to use a cable with a ferrite though.
I have about 30 different mini usb cables sitting around the house and i have probably used all of them once to or twice well doing playing with my HTC devices
Actually, that ferrite theory might explain things for me... I am experiencing some strange behavior when I use cables without the ferrite bead - the G1 will act as it's charging, but I don't get the "mount" option, i.e. it doesn't detect that it's actually connected to my computer. This happens both when directly connected to the computer USB port, and via a USB hub. I'm pretty sure that when I use a cable with the ferrite bead it also detects the computer and I'm able to data mount it.
Also, when using a cable without the bead, I have noticed that although the G1 says it's charging, it either doesn't or it charges really, really slowly, cause I could check by pressing power or menu once that it says charging - 76%, then turn off the display, then check again like half an hour later and it's still at 76%.
So I would actually say yes: the USB cable matters big time.
But of course, this is all based on my personal experience.
~Christopher
i plugged up an old desktop to retrieve some stuff the other day and realized that it didn't have usb2.0 and would not let the phone stay mounted. so just a caution if thats an issue.

strange, that's a similar thing that happens when not using enough voltage (the battery issue). I have a homemade battery powered usb charger, but it's only 4.5v as opposed to 5v. This causes strange issues with my g1 and my girlfriends. do you have lots of things drawing power (LED lights, lit up SATA cables, tons of usb stuff etc) because that can cause instability with your computer and sometimes undervolting usb things.
Ferrite beads more have to do with interference which doesnt seem like issue. Although i'd certainly use a cable with a ferrite bead when flashing or issuing commands via adb, flashboot etc.

Considering how difficult is to the get an Eee Pad, I wonder how to get the cable...

An OEM that releases a device that uses a proprietary cable to supply the device with power IMHO has a responsibility to see to it that customers can readily purchase replacement cables. People do lose/break things and without a way to charge the TF it's an expensive paper weight. I hope Asus is listening & will rectify this situation quickly, I'd love to purchase a backup cable.
I would like to have another one so I can have one at home and one at work. I forgot the cable at home today and now can't connect it to my computer here at work.

Problem with the galaxy tab is it uses a connector that is very similar to Apples connector except that the pin backplane is reversed, which wouldn't be hard to change for manufacturers of non-licensed Apple connectors
http://fatmixx.com/tag/pdmi/
While Asus's cable connector is probably made in house and proprietary
so who knows how long it will take for others to make knockoffs of the connectors
It would have been nice if Asus included a micousb connector on the transformer at least for charging and data sync
I created a folder on my Windows PC desktop and 'shared' it, then in ES Lan added a new server using the IP address of my PC.

Definitely hoping they'll release the official cables soon or allow 3rd party to make them. Kinda sucks when my cable broke and no other ways to charge the darn thing.
Really having a hard time only having one cable, and especially since it is a cheap feeling one to start with
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using Tapatalk
somewhat insane to not have even power cords available at launch. Shame on your asus.

Thats what i thought too, but i need to charge it in my car, and it wont charge with any of my cigarette lighter USB chargers because it uses the damn special charger from Asus
Either i wait for a car charger or just buy another charging pack and hook it up to a power inverter in my car
I really wish they would have just used a standard USB connector instead of a USB 3.0 one

[Q] USB Replacement problem

Hi,
My phone was acting really strange, batterydrain, weird software actions, nothing seems to help.
I got the advice to open it, because I didnt had any ganranty left, so I did, it was full of sand from the beach en I could see on the paper marks that I had some waterdamage.
After a few nights of searching I decided to order a new USB connector true Ebay.
So now I replaced it, all is working fine, but still got the batterydrain.
But the biggest problem for now is, that I cant connect with my PC..... Before the replacement this was no problem at all!!
I tried evertything what came up in my mind, New drivers, New KIES, USB debugging, USB Storage....
Do you guys have a solution or some ideas wat I can try?!
Thanks in advanced!
Anyone?
Hey. So the problem is clear but i need more info : system settings about phone and post here. And other thing is did you get any windows error then trying to connect your phone to pc?.

try:
- the back usb ports behind your pc
- a different sync (usb) cable
if you have otg an adapter cable test a disk on key to make sure data+\-\sense pins are intact
if the disk on key does not show up works it means
- the micro usb connector is faulty
- software problem
on my front usb ports, i sometimes get mtp "stuck" in xp so i switch to the back ports and it works fine

System settings is 4.0.3 ICS Stock Samsung, no root, nothing changed in phone, everyting is as it is when you buy it.
Windows error is that my laptop doesn't recognize the USB device.
Thanks for your reply

Thanks for your reply, I have tried all of the USB ports on my laptop and on the PC of a friend, no result.
If I plug it in, my SGS2 will charge, so I guess that the +/- point are ok?
I dont know what a otg an adapter cable is to test a disk or someting.... Sorry I am a noob on this front, can you explain this a little bit more?

"vcc" is the positive voltage or "+"
"GND" is ground or "-"
sense is responsible for cable\connection identification by using different resistors bridged between GND and Sense (charger, mhl, otg, audio dock) like so:
Sense-----wire----resistor-----wire----GND
(otg is without resistor)
"data +" & "data -" are for passing digital serial information (usb data)

a usb OTG adapter is a cable that makes the phone act like a usb port on your computer, and you can use a "usb flash drive" \ "usb stick" \ "usb memory"
so if you can get a otg adapter you can tell if the DATA+ and DATA- pins in your phone usb socket are broken
I don't want to offend you mate but are you sure that USB Debugging mode is on?
Under Settings > Applications > Development you should see an option for USB Debugging -- if that isn't checked you won't be able to mount your phone.
Do you see some errors in Device manager?
If yes, try to update driver marked as error.
You're using the cable that comes with the phone right?
And go to device manager
expend Universal Serial Bus controllers see if you have SAMSUNG mobile USB composite device if not, right click on one of the "USB composite device"* and click update device drivers.
Hope we can come up with solution for you mate.

No offend taken, but yes I am sure. Thanks for thinking with us!
The error in Device manager is "Unknown USB Device" what you suggest I already tried, but no result.
I have the new drivers, I use the original USB cable, but I switch my USB Connector, witch I order thrue Ebay in China, so maybe there is something different with the connection points in the USB connector.....
That is something I may have to find out with the OTG Cable.
