Best radio to use for cm7? - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

EC09 is supposed to be the GB radio, which is what i have on right now...
BUT personally when i first flashed Test build 7, I was on ED01 and did not flash EC09 radio and it worked fine.
I actually felt like i had better reception and everything else was smoother overall.
I thought maybe there was a bad flash or i screwed something up, so i went all the way back to DL09 and worked my way up and i still dont feel like it was as good as when i had it on ED01
So basically YMMV, but i think a lot of people are enjoying EC09

A number of people in other threads have complained of more missed calls with the EC09 modem than the ED04 modem, which could make sense considering ED04 is newer.

But some also like the EC09 better, and they are able to achieve better data rates. That being said... the safest bet is probably just using froyo and ED04.

I'm on CM7 (tb#7) with ED04 modem and it works perfectly. No missed calls and GPS lock is instant.

I'm on EC09, but I think ima go back to ED04, the battery seems to drain quicker on this radio though no missed calls or anything else. Speed is the same but I'm on Metro PCS and not on Verizon.

[Q] can you?

i heard that DL09 modem/baseband was the best. this is my wifes phone and shes running SC 2.9.2 voodoo. shes been having a hard time recieving phone calls. say 1/5 calls would go through. rest of the time it would just ring ring then to voicemail. is anyone having similar problem and is DL09 compatible with SC roms with voodoo?? this is my only last resort. thx for the help anyone.
I had the same issue. All is fine on the DL09 modem. Just flash it using odin (pda) no wipe is needed and it takes :27 seconds.
good day.
. thx! for the quick reply
Yup. I just installed DL09 modem with the froyo roms and am having no problems. ...better reception so far

I love the DL09 modem, but I have ONE issue with it. EVERY reboot, it will RESEND RANDOM (yes, TOTALLY random) text messages to random people. Anyone else have that issue? I'm on Superclean 2.9.2 Voodoo. It's really odd. I flashed the EB01 modem back, though I never really had issues with that to begin with.
I can't seem to find a link for the DL09 modem, anyone have a link for it?
Link containing the DL09 modem, as well as kern and rom but all separate.
Radios ought to be stickied to keep them from falling to far back out of sight.

Phone not ringing on Froyo

Several users have reported issues with the phone not ringing on the Fascinates. Can anyone who is experiencing this please post here with your ROM, radio and kernel? Maybe we can figure out a pattern.
I've had this issue once on I believe the DL09 radio and the EC10 voodoo stock kernel; I can't remember which Rom but i think it was a Superclean 2.9.x version.
Thanks.

Make sure you have a ringtone set. I used the .nomedia file in /system/media and my ringtone went to silent and didn't return after I got rid of the .nomedia file. I had to go back in and reset all of my notification sounds and my ringtone.

I am pretty sure I didn't have that and did have a ringtone set. I verified in my /system/media folder that .nomedia is not there.
This thread is mainly to see who else is having problems. I would think though if the ringtone wasn't set it would still show a missed call; from what I have seen no missed call message shows up.

I had same issue on EB01 radio along with data drop. Been using the DL09 radio for about 3 weeks and has not happened since. After radio flash be sure to do the *228 1 and *228 2.
good day.
I'm having the same issue but haven't figured out why.
EB01 radio
Blackhole v4.3
Stock EC10 kernel nonvoodoo
Superdark theme v3
I've tried to *228 but neither option 1 or 2 work for some reason. I get FC's everytime I try. I've never had these problems with any other setup.
I'm starting to think it's the EC10 kernels. Yesterday I wiped and odined my phone and OTAed to EA28, loaded SC 2.9.1 w/ the EC10 voodoo kernel. Today my data signal in my house would go from 2 bars instantly all the way to 0 bars every time I would use it no matter where I was. I flashed the EB16 voodoo kernel and now my data signal was back up to steady 2 bars and hardly dropped any lower in the same locations.

Not the kernel...it's the modem. Thread about three weeks ago discussing the same thing.

This is what I was thinking too. The EB01 radio seems to be the common denominator. Now if I can just find an EA28 odin file....

I'm on an EC10 kernel with the EB01 modem and don't have any problems receiving phone calls.
It's only happened to me once when someone called me 4 times in a row and my phone never rang. I've recieved plenty of calls and text messages since then.
Can you *228? Everytime I try, I just get a Programming Unsuccessful message and my dialer FC's.
EDIT: Just tried *228 option 2 again and the PRL update was successful. THEN once that was over, the dialer FC'd. Weird....

Same here...but every now and then it happens to me and I use hybrid prls on another network still utilizing vzw modems...and i've never ran into any issues till after eb01. I've tested multiple times and confirmed on my phone it is eb01.

Maybe that is the difference? I get the hybrid VZW PRL pushed to my phone after I complained a bunch of times about poor service. Didn't really do anything to fix the problem, but it made the CS rep I was talking to feel better.

Yeah...they do whatever they can to get you off the phone for dials lol...personally I think this issue may already be known by big red and could possibly be a hold up for the official froyo release for the fascinate. I'm not going to say how I tested my theory but I can confirm that there were several times my eb01 phone would play dumb while...nevermind you get the gist

Verizon's hybrid PRL will re-prioritize the Alltel towers they picked up when they acquired Alltel a few years ago. I guess by default, it won't connect to them, but if you have service issues, they'll push the hybrid to you to see if it solves the problem.

So far no one has any EA28 Odin files. I started a thread but no one has posted any. I got mine by odining an older stock rom then OTAing to EA28.

I am in the same boat - same combo, except SFC 2.9.2 and Endert Special UV Kernel (EC10)
I have missed a few calls with no ring - but every time I test it myself it rings perfectly. It is not often, but it does happen from time to time with my phone.
I was reading about it, seems perhaps the EA28 modem may correct it (even though it seems to be very similar to EB01[from what I read, not what I understand or know), but there does not seem to be an odin file around for that modem.
I was thinking of making the time investment to flash to stock, take the OTA update and then rebuild to my current spec.
A few missed calls and yesterday my accelerometer completely quit, so this seems to be the best for me at the moment - as I learned from reading posts by scarfman

It safe to just flash EC01 Radio?

It safe to just flash the EC01 Radio over sc 2.9.2? Thanks
if you look through the post, numerous people have done so, including myself.. though im still on 2.9.1, ec10 voodoo kernel

Yes, I did.
I flashed the EC01 rom and modem early on Sunday and did the usual *228 stuff. 5 hours after flash I get a voice mail notification but no missed call (here we go again). So sadly I find myself back on the DL09 modem.
Signal on EC01 modem at home -91dBm.
Same place 3 minutes later on the DL09 modem -79dBm.
It sucks that I'm happy with everything else on this device except for what it is intended to be. (A F'ing PHONE). So your millage may vary just keep that old modem handy.
good day.

Pardon my noobishness, how would I go about finding out what my signal db is. I live right next to two diff towers and an airport and rarely see more than one bar of signal.

Doesn't work for me. I was having missed calls issue on EB01 and had it on EC01 yesterday for the first time. Right now I'm in the process of full DI01 restore to get EA28 OTA. EA28 works the best for me, shame that we don't have EA28 modem files so full restore is needed when something is not right with new modem.
I have had no problem with this modem....I'm sorry that people are...even better with tw 4/15 kernal update!

Which Radio?

I am currently running the Evil Fascinate 3.6 Rom. With the official ED04 radio. Really havent had many missed calls issues but seem to not get the best signal and seem to lose gps location sometimes. Anyone recommend a better radio i should flash through ODIN to help for that and maybe anything else?
That's my golden question too... I have tried every modem from ec01 to ed04 (and all versions in between) and now ec09. I seem to miss about 1 or 2 calls a week on all of them with the same data and gps performance. So, for my phone, there doesn't appear to be any noticeable differences. But when you look around you will notice some people getting differing results.
I suggest giving each modem a test drive to see how your phone reacts. Good luck

Is it worth going to a gingerbread rom?

So I am on Superclean 2.9.2 with a voodoo kernel, and radio is EB01
I have not upgraded in at least 6 months+
So far my phone has been pretty stable, only big thing I would love is to find a rom that has much better battery life, but I doubt i will find that, just the way smartphones are.
What are the real advantages of going to some of these new GB roms? I see cm has some issues with Flashcard, and not sure if it will even work with mine since still using stock that came with phone, and data dropping out.
Thanks
GB tends to be faster. Miui is the only one that I've used that data never drops out. I'd say battery life is similar for me between TW (2.2) and GB.
I'm on miui and glitch and I average at least 14 hours which I'm happy with, I very seldom half to plug it in other than during the night.

it depends what you want...if you are happy with your setup, back it up before trying other stuff
fwiw i run dh12 with the stock kernel and am very happy
which one is dh12?
I am getting confused which modem is best? EC09? EH09? EI20?
I read in one post EC09 can corrupt SDcard? so best to stay way from that one? and stick to EH09 and EI20?

dh12 was a joke (it was our launch rom last september)
you cannot use eh09 or ei20 modem on the vzw fascinate...ec09 is *usually* the best modem to use on gb (aosp or tw) but some people have better results with eb01 or ec01

OK but now I am even more confused...i see here for example
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1274561
Says Ei20?
Is this rom not for fascinate?
Ok I went with MUI and followed the detailed directions so I am on EC09 modem. I think I messed up the terminology when I asked that last question.
About to install the glitch kernel now..i feel like I have a new phone now...totally different..LOL
My battery actually improved with gb
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I think the PowerWashed GB (it is from the mesmerize, and is NOT an SDcard risk) is a great rom. Better battery life, 0 force closes, and the radio is amazingly consistent(data or calls are VERY rarely dropped. The speed of my fascinate also improved.
My only caveat with this rom is 3 fold... There is a charge bug, where it tells you your battery is 100% when it's 95% or 87%. Second, there is no verizon network recognition (the market doesn't have verizon apps, essentially. Everything else network based works perfectly though). Lastly... After being created and made nearly perfect... Development has stalled out on it. The battery charge issue is one of the only things I'd like to see developed, but I'm not sure that will happen.
In short... Try gingerbread, i don't think you'll regret it.
