[Q] nemesis2all kernel voltage settings - Fascinate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I'm new to the to this phone and haven't had the luxury of playing with over/under-volting. I am coming from a Desire so please bare with me. I am running the 11.7.1 MIUI build with nemesis' new otb kernel with deep sleep fix. I have voltage control installed and understand how to make the changes. My issue is where to begin. Are there any basic guidelines to start with? Should I o/u-volt? How much for each step? I don't want to fry my phone and I know to each his own when settings are concerned. Can anyone help me? I am trying to get the longest battery life possible without sacrificing a ton of performance. Any help would be great.

I have general guidelines in the thread you got the kernel from. Some have shared their settings in the thread. Do some reading and please post questions in appropriate section or thread relavant to question you are asking.

Thank you sir. I see I posted in the wrong section right after asked. Whoops. Sorry. Thanks for the update.

First of all, this belongs in the Q/A section so you know for next time. Now, on to your question. It sounds to me like you aren't too much interested in overclocking if you want battery life. So, I would try keeping your max speed at 1000 and start with a -50 UV for each step. See how that treats you and then go from there. Later on maybe you can further undervolt the 100-400 steps. I wouldn't UV the 800 and 1000 steps anymore than 50 though

This device comes with a big screen but the cpu is not fast enough.
Can some devs teach me how to overclock it?
devs needed to make a custom kernel
I want to OC it too.

ooh i didn't see this thread. i just made the same thread minutes ago ooo. sorry mods!
For overclocking, get app called SetCPU. However, you need to know, if it supports your phone, rom and kernel.
i dont really know about roms or kernels. im a complete noob. i have everything stock cept for the rooting part.
Well, pretty much just ask around in forums or write to developer of the app if your device/rom/kernel is supported.
You find info about rom and kernel in phone settings phone info.
Or just get the app and try it yourself. If you overclock too much, it will just start freezing, so you'll know that you have to downclock a bit.

Could someone explain to me how undervolting works?

I'm confused about undervolting. I don't exactly understand what the numbers mean. I know I can get better battery life through successful undervolting, but I have no clue how to do it.
I'm currently running Euphoria RC2.1 with the Kiss 5.1 kernel.
Could someone explain what the numbers mean, and how to choose said numbers?

Thanks for the nod JR.
In my guide (post # 2) there are examples of Overclocking and Undervolting from some users that were on MIUI and the voltages that work for them.
Here is a short thread with some ICS OC/UV #'s from some advanced users that know what they are doing. YMMV so what works for them, JR, me may not work for you, as far as exact numbers.
Words of advice: Step down you UV by increments of -25 and see if they work. If not you will know b/c you will get a random reboot right in the middle of some app or task that you are doing that is drawing too much power. That is an indication that you UV'd too much. Step it up and then keep testing.
Important part-------> DO NOT SET ON BOOT until you know for a fact that they are working. I usually UV and let it set with normal everyday use for 1 whole day. If it works fine, if not, then I can tune it accordingly and once I find that sweet spot, THEN I "Set On Boot"

[Q] Eternity Project's CPU Optimizer Hotplug Enquiry

Hello all!
Long time lurker here on the forums, but first actual post. I was hoping somebody here might be able to help me with a question regarding Eternity Project's cpufreq hotplug.
The link to the original thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1367255
Anyway, I have followed the instructions in the thread and have not exactly encountered any issues per say. I have set the appropriate script to run on boot and as su, and everything seems to be ok.
The million dollar question is this: When I open up setCPU to verify if all is working correctly, I can see the Eternity Project hotplug in the bottom left corner, which to me implies that it is operational, however in the centre of the screen it simply says 'governor moto hotplug', or some such effect so I am unsure of which is running. There is only one screencap on page 7 of the original thread, but it is using an alternative CPU management app and so provides an inaccurate comparison.
I am currently running J.Y.Daddy's GSM patched CM9 17.05.12 build.
Thank you very much in advance for your help, and I look forward to engaging more in this productive community.
Attached is a screenshot of my setCPU home screen. Notice the bottom left corner, and the central message.
Thanks again....oh wow, Sorry for Wall of Text.
I get the same thing.
Why dont you try benching it before and after? I had a small difference so also not sure if it is working
Hmm....must admit I know very little about benching. Could you recommend a starting point for learning? I am relatively new to this whole mod thing (had my XT910 since April and it's the first phone I've modded), but am very eager to learn as much as I can.
I'm currently studying IT, and am looking forward to being able to contribute to the development section, but you have to crawl before you can walk, ey? Havn't bricked my phone so far, so fingers crossed!
I tried downloading the version of the CPU app from the screenshot also and when I open that, it has 'scaling mot_hotplug' underneath the Hz counter, but it also says 'scaling eternity_hotplug' underneath near where the sliders are, so again, not much help!
Thanks for your response too!

when he states benching i think hes just referring to the tests u can do using setcpu. i think its the third or fourth tab!
hope it helps
I don't think it works on ICS though, I've tried it for Gummy. And I doubt it'll increase benchmarks, since it edits the "snappiness" of the UI, whereas benchmarks test the MAX ability (correct me if I'm wrong).
You can try editing the thresholds and sampling rates/periods? It'll make your phone rather snappy, in exchange for a bit of battery life.
Thanks for the responses guys! It's a bit of a relief that I'm not the only one a bit in the dark about this! I suspect that Spectral1991 is correct on the lack of support for ICS with this particular mod, so I reckon for now I might just leave things as is and wait (not so patiently) for the official OTA of ICS to be released before I start hassling people for support, lol.
Just to confirm, does anyone else who has this installed get a smilar screen to mine when they open setCPU? I just want to make sure I am at least on the right path, and this is not just some user error on my part.
Thanks again guys!

[Q] Which Rom is BEST for my needs?

Hello there. So, I want to try and find a rom that works best for what I need it for, but rather than take weeks to experiment with all the different roms out right now, I thought I'd ask the public and see what you all think.
What I use/want my phone for, in order of importance:
1) Stability (I work for a Doctor's Office. I can't have my phone freezing on me AT ALL. I need to be able to be reached 100% of the time).
2) 4G Tether (I use at least 20-30Gb of 4G data a month MINIMUM. It needs to have stable 4G. I am able to play Battlefield 3 on my PC with no lag/bad ping with my current 4G coverage).
3) Balance between speed and battery life.
4) Looks "cool." This isn't very important to me though if everything else works.
And that's all I can really think of at the moment.
With this in mind, which rom/kernel setup would be best for me?
I REALLY appreciate any response. <3.
EDIT: I have CDMA.
Before this gets locked... look up Cool ICS ROM in the CDMA development thread. That should work wonders

I went through the rules and I don't know why my thread would be locked? =-X. Which rule did I break for future reference then? I apologize in advance.
And I tried Cool ICS Rom at one point. I wasn't impressed with the battery life though. But this was a while back. Has a lot gone into the development and stability of ICS now?
Yeah. Most not if all ICS ROMs are stable

Its not posted in the rules. Papa has stated that these threads are not allowed because its based on opinions and it has the potential to start flame wars between members and or devs. Just to let you know, evo 3d is notorious for battery drain. You will have to experiment with kernel settings. Setup your memory tasks. Shut off stuff like bluetooth , WiFi, auto sync. Email and Facebook are notorious battery drainers. Try an extended battery or carry a spare one.

It's a moderator preference (aka rule) that we don't have "best" or "favorite" ROM or kernel threads in the Evo 3D XDA forums. We setup a ROM information thread in the General Forum and if you repost you requirements there someone can make some suggestions for ROM's you might want to try.

Need help with choosing ROM for Galaxy S2

Hello,
I was really into XDA forum few years ago but some things got into my life so I backed off a bit. I still got my SGS II tho and there is Siyah Kernel 3.0.33 - 3.3.1+ version installed on top of Ressurection Remix ICS 2.0 by westcrip 4.0.4.
As I'm not into the flow anymore and I need advice fast as possible because I'm reformating my SGS II soon - I need recommendation. I need a ROM who currently gives me the most bugfixes and most stability and speed. That's all I'm about, I like speed, good functions and a lot of bugfix/speed scripts automatically installed but still - ROM that flows with newest Android versions.
Can I get recommendation for ROM and Kernel?
Thanks.
No, you can't. Rom/kernel recommendations are forbidden here. For a simple reason - you will not have the same experience of a given rom or kernel as someone else due to phone setup & usage. There are too many variables involved.
Make a nandroid, go over to the two development sections, read some thread, try out some roms/kernels.
Mods will be closing this thread shortly.
I would rather spent my time testing someones recommendation then trying so many ROM's by my own hand, this way I can set the percentage of **** ROM's down to less percent and good stuff higher ... but yeah, thanks, you were very, very helpful.
Not interested. Rules are you try these things yourself. Stop being lazy.
More like an order, I'm not lazy, I'm just trying to spare time, and I guess everyone does that, maybe not if you don't have anything important to do. I'm not saying this to interest you ...
Thread closed as its a Best ROM thread.
