[Q] [ROM] B 0.8.4 set CPU problem when overclocked - Legend Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi I have set cpu set up and it used to work perfectly however now whenever i overclock no matter how much more it is over 600MHz it freezes then my device restarts ( i managed to revert it back ) its fine unless its over 0.6
i'm guessing setCPU has an issue is anyone else having this issue?
any suggestions?

I can't overclock at all anymore the kernel is the standard one that comes with the Rom I've had no luck
Sent from my HTC Legend

I have the same problem with CM7, maby our 2 phones are used up and only function corretly on 600mhz? idk
Maby if we can have a kernel that allows voltage control we can overclock again
Those are just speculations tho, correct me if i'm wrong

Hmm your right about 0.6 think but if I use profiles I can get around that weirdly but its glitchy I might try a clean install or remove all cache info

SetCPU has problems, running on non updated Superuser. Search BlaY0s ROM thread, and you'll find out how to update it.

Maybe its just your chip. Some will overclock up to 800, others won't go beyond 700.

So how many of you are back on Gingerbread?
I am. It has always ran really good for me. I'm using gingivitus IX. The only problem I have with this Rom is that the battery takes forever to charge. No other complaints.

Basically what's the correct way to flash a new kernel?

We can overlock our EVO3D phones with SetCPU using our temp root Pretty nice. Have it running at 1.52 right now.

mine was showing only 1188 when i first installed WTSB rom and it wouldn't let me overclock like it said the included kernel would. So i reinstalled it and now my set cpu tells me max cpu is 1026mhz.
i've uninstalled, rebooted, installed, etc, multiple times with no change.

So the kernel that everyone says is fine with the WTSB doesn't work with my phone as the other 3 kernels that everyone says are perfectly fine don't work as well.
so the next guess is what since i've tried 4 kernels so far with the same results?
also, i've been around for a while but never posted so i can't post in the dev forum yet. This isn't my first rooting rodeo but i'm new to the evo 3d. I've never had problems like this on any of the other platforms i've used.

Frankly, I don't see the benefit to overclocking anyways... much less putting in as much effort as that guy is to do it...
SetCPU isn't going to take well with a temp root... and you can't over clock without a custom kernel (unless you really want to **** your phone up). Just s-off, root, install CWM via ROM Manager, boot into recovery, flash a custom ROM followed by a custom OC/UC kernel and GAPPS. Also, make sure to set your profiles correctly. Do it right and you'll have amazing battery life AND a phone pushing 2GHz clock speed.

so is that method the only way to overclock?
I'm having a lot of trouble with set cpu and WTSB ROM on my 2.3.4 with 1.5 hboot. It worked for a while but since i went to WTSB it displays 1026mhz as my cpu speed and that's not even teh speed of stock.
I've reflashed twice now with the same luck.
@jeffbinder ....did you noticed the date of that last post??...as of your issue, does your kernel supports oc? i see you are using hboot 1.5, have you followed the ¨Specific¨ way to flash roms with kernels/kernels for us(hb1.5 users)??? what i mean by that is did you used the Image Flash GUI apk or the fastboot method?? because thats the only way(that i know of) hb1.5 htc unlock users can flash kernels...

I use fastboot on the computer. The rom flashed over fine and everything runs but now my speed just isn't up to stock anymore. It's so weird. The phone acts normal so i'm thinking maybe a bug in set cpu? I've tried uninstalling and re-installing it a few times.
I put it back to stock and everything is fine so i know my flash is good. This isn't my first rodeo with rooting. i do all my friends' devices and i never seem to run into any issues from samsung, motorola or htc until this new evo 3d i just bought. My old evo worked great.
BTW, the last post is only 6 months old. That's not "ancient" in the history of forums by anymeans. It was one of 3 threads in the last year about set cpu.

i wish i was trolling. I've been a member for just shy of a year but no need to post since none of this is all that complicated and i never ran into issues. I didn't have enough posts to reply in the ROM thread but i do now so i posted it to see if someone there might know what's up.
@jeffbinder
Got to SetCPU clear all and uninstall, reboot, install ¨SystemTuner¨, try that app for OC. See if that works better, most roms/kernels have been using a script for OC called OCDaemon(or something like that...am kinda of new to these terms/info).
Edit: Don't multi thread for the same issue, so it is easier to provide you with help.
thanks!
i installed that program, it showed my cpu was set lower so i increased it to 1188mhz then i uninstalled that program and reinstalled set cpu. Now set cpu shows my 1188mhz speed.
I normally don't multipost but after almost a year i didn't have enough posts to post my problem in the dev forums for that ROM. sorry

Anthrax setCPU frequency settings won't stick!?!?

Hello I'm new to the 3D threads because I just joined the dual-core club...but I've been rooting and hacking since the Samsung Moment...anyway, I'm running ZR3D[GT] gingerbread ROM v4.1 with the anthrax kernel...I'm using setCPU to overclock the phone to around 1.6Ghz but let alone the settings not sticking after a reboot ALL I HAVE TO DO IS TURN THE SCREEN OFF and when I turn it back on the overclock is gone and it's back down to 1188mhz....I don't know what to do !?!? anyone with a suggestion please don't hesitate to help me out ! thanks in advanced community.
And I tried to disable the perflock and it says it isn't enabled for the kernel

I believe you can't use SetCPU with the Anthrax kernel. I tried it, and it also FC'd and locked up on me. Try using CPU Master.
Try using "system tuner" it had a lot more options and settings to apply CPU freq changes with an initd script.

Nope. Just flahed the kernel first. Then I installed set-cpu. I'm downgraded to 1.4 s-off, but I'm not sure that would make a difference. I've set OC and rebooted and it stuck. Although, I currently am testing 192mhz to 1.2ghz with the smartassV2 gov.
Sent from my PG86100 using Tapatalk
The reason that your SetCPU settings are not sticking is because there is a script in that ROM that overides the SetCPU. There is no reason why you cannot use SetCPU on an Anthrax kernel. I've never had a problem with it except for a ROM that contains a script to control the CPU.
